Great review Chopsy. Just came back to this again as looking at RS660, Tuono 660 or maybe going back to a Street Triple again. Looking at the Tuono vs Striple R’s that are a few months old, between the 100-1000 miles on them, the Tuono is now about £1000 less than Triple R. That’s now a big difference and more than covers the cost of a quick shifter, you could even add the IMU upgrade if you wanted and still save a chunk of money. As a mostly street rider, mostly B roads etc, Tuono seems like a good deal.

The street is notoriously under sprung on the rear for a heavier rider, which is likely why the front feels light. It also results in a boat more load transfer to the front under heavy braking. Just having a bike with the right springing makes such a massive difference that it eclipses everything else. The rising rate link on the street allows for a lighter rider and gives novices and easier time, whilst allowing heavier riders a reasonable experience.
Personally, I'd rather pay that little extra for a made in Europe bike. The Triumphs are actually expensive considering the costs saved paying Far Eastern wages, factory leases, but they charge you only a fraction less than a premium European made bike. Triumph are having their cake and eating it, as they save a lot in manufacturing and charge you virtually Euro build prices. I do not consider them a British bike at all. Other manufacturers do, indeed, have plants in Thailand and the Far East, but at least they still have factories in their home countries aswell, and distribute the bikes to these different markets accordingly. My Ducati, for example, is made in Italy and my BMW made in Germany. It matters.

I was comparing these two when I looking to purchase. Went with the Striple R! The Tuono was way too expensive(over $2000 more in my currency + quickshifter) for what it is plus the nearest Dealer is 200km away. Made my decision easy.

Should probably look in them mirror things they attach to the bikes but there is always to much going on to bother with them things. Joking of course. Thanks for sharing. Another enjoyable watch
Your still the best reviewer in the UK. It'd be good if you could start to do a bit of a riding gear review as that seems to be a bit of a segment that most channels don't cover. Just an idea. Keep up the good work mate. Cheers from Melbourne 👍
Great vid, really enjoyed it & very appropriate comparison. My head says Triumph but my heart says Tuono. Heart wins pretty much every time for me when it comes to bikes though. However I agree that Aprilia have blundered on the spec & pricing. This bike should be £9500 tops or maybe £9800 if spec'd the same as the RS660. I'm confident Aprilia will add some bells & whistles to the Tuono for next year.
You make bike reviews exciting👍. You should be the new commentator for BTSport Moto GP!!! If they were both in a car park I'd look at the Arillia. If I was spending my money I'd buy the Z900 at £9,149.
Loved that one, especially the cop car appearance. We saw it before you 😳. The soundtrack was a treat, the Street Triple just edged it. Need to see the Aprilia in the flesh. Many thanks for posting 👍
What for on the road honestly you use 180hp-200hp on British roads and you are 💯 % going to prison these are more than enough for most people unless you do the small willy waving down the pub with your mates 😂
Probably the best comparison video the way you got excited everytime you hit the gas in the Tuono 660 that's why I ride I own a Trident and would love to see a comparison between the triple vs Trident is the triple worth the price difference and the Trident vs Tuono
Nice one Mr Chops, really enjoyed that. As most folk will add the quick shifter and blipper to the Tuono I think the Street RS would have been the bike to compare it against. Was surprised the R was so cheap and with the fully adjustable suspension It could easily be dialled in to suit. Keep up the good work! Btw I’ve been waiting so long for the next hypermotard episode, I’ve grown a beard 🧔
Excellent review as always LC, I would add a few quid and get the Street Triple RS. Traded up my old 675 R a year ago and tried the competition but nothing came close.
Superb review, it's a win win situation with which ever one you chose. How do you think the 790 Duke measures up to the Tuono 660, it would be great video to see. I'm really enjoying your content, bit of everything, funny, informative and great bikes.
765 r must be a great bike but tuono 660 seems more fun on road. I love Aprilia bikes (have an rsv mille R '02 and it's fantastic even today) and 2 cylinder...if only was an 800 cc and 120hp...
I wonder, did you adjust the Triumph suspension? I test rode a Street last year and at first I wasn’t impressed because of the handling. I went back and we adjusted sag, compression and so on and it made a huge difference. The factory settings were not great.
Thanks for the comparison Chops , both seem to be great bikes in their own way I wonder which would have the better resell value , a long term test is a great idea for making the final decision easier Ride Safe
Really good review, thanks! The Tuono is the better looker in y view. How do these bikes compare with the MT 09 SP. Where I come from it's $500 cheaper than the R. Tuono pricing yet to be advised. Hold your breath it will be high. And the straight MT 09 is cheaper still...
Another fantastic Video, can’t wait for the Tuono 660 to reach California... I love how the cop 👮 blew right by you, hahaha 🤣 , he must have been late for a lunch date
Agree about the spec. Aprillia messed up with that, they shouldn’t have screwed with a good formula. It’s almost insulting, like they’re saying “you won’t know any better if you aren’t buying the sport bike”
Currently trying to chose between the two for mainly urban comuting and some weekend outings. Trading in my GS1250 for one or the other this week. Tested the Triumph already and trying to set up a test for the Aprilia. I do love the sound of the Triumph triple engine. You definitely seem to come down on the side of the Aprilia for handling, which is my main criterion. Tough choice😂
@@simonthecarpenter4203 hi Simon, brought the Tuono and loved it. But I sold it, not because of any particular weakness, more to do with living in the Paris region and struggling to ever get out of third gear! I've now got a Fantic Caballero 500 and love it for my use. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the Aprilia.
@@tonydare7614 thanks so much for the reply! I’m currently riding an mt10 and I love it but but find myself doing silly speeds a lot of the time, just because it’s so easy and we all get carried away at times! Im wondering if the tuono’s excellent handling would be as enjoyable on our uk roads with slightly less speed. Was your ownership experience a generally positive one? Thanks 👍🏻
@@simonthecarpenter4203 I think it would be great in the UK countryside. It's comfortable on a motorway for a while, but the slightly higher windscreen may be a good option if you do a lot of mileage on motorways. In town it's really easy to filter and isn't too jerky between first and second (Paris speed limit is now 18mph everywhere!!). Twisties are where it really shines and the Pirelli work nicely. The chassis is incredible and stable at all times. The main weaknesses for me are the back brake is not very effective but it's not a deal-breaker, and the vibrations, which are present above 5,000, but again didn't annoy me as much as some reviewers. It didn't always feel as premium as some of the Triumphs or BMWs I've had but it's hard to compare. It's also not as fast as your current machine or a CBR for example. It's somewhere in between a sports bike and a naked. But it is a light, fun, beautiful machine that will put a smile on your face and might save your licence. Although, if you wanted to you could do illegal speeds very easily on it too!
@@tonydare7614 I really appreciate your in depth reply, it’s hugely useful to hear from someone who’s owned the bike. I think the lower power of the bike would suit me well over here and with the handling I’m pretty sure it would be as quick point to point without the need to do the silly higher speeds I sometimes do at the moment. I looked at one in my local dealers and loved it’s overall appearance, far nicer in shape and stance that the street triple rs, more modern looking also but agree that some of the plastics weren’t very premium whilst other parts were! I shall get a test ride and take it from there, probably next season now though as they’re beginning to salt the roads over here. Thanks again for your reply, keep enjoying the fantic, another beautiful looking machine I have to say and something I could see myself owning at some point. All the best Simon
No mention of build quality - Ride magazine said the Aprilia was a little off with paint quality in the odd place and quite plasticky in others. Perhaps not as premium as it's bigger brothers. I've got a STRS (2018) which is pretty well finished in most areas. All depends of course if you have OCD or not. You don't look at the mantelpiece and all that...
Hi! I love your reviews! I had a Street triple R 2014 and now I'm approaching to buy an Aprilia Tuono 660 FACTORY. I think this one is more comparable to the street triple than the Tuono 660 basic. It will be very interesting if you make a new comparison between Street R vs Tuono Factory, like old vs new school. Or also Tuono 660 vs Tuono 660 Factory, I'm from Italy, but I didn't find a video comparison on the road like that. Thank you!
Fantastic and entertaining review and comparison as always👍🏻🍻 I wonder if the RS would give the triumph the edge back in terms of handling and whether the RS M50 calipers and radial master cylinder would put the triumph’s braking feel ahead.
I’d take the Street Triple R over the Tuono all day long. Plus the cost of the quick shifter takes the Tuono into Street Triple RS territory. This just shows what an absolute bargain the Street Triple R is 😁
@@22Epic Well, the new street triple r is out and it costs the same. You also get better reliability and more dealerships with the Triumph. Adjust the suspension and it handles as well as the Aprilia, but with more oomph.
I was shocked when I firstly saw that Triumph have put the standard axial brake pump on the R model.. looks like bad decision to me from your opinion on the brakes.
Pretty unique comparison, searched for french content but it hasn’t been done yet, massive thanks So if I want to go full send, the tuono might be the best suited for that ?

Hi Chops I am commenting on the comment that Steve triple sent you about the Dave Moss vid. I was wondering why you didn’t really elaborate about that rear suspension shock and why you thought it was better than the street triple suspension, I’m just curious I’ve always enjoyed your vid’s but are you getting compensated by Aprilia in anyway?
I said Ken that the Street Triple suspension is a higher spec but not setup as nicely. Not to say with a full setup it's wouldn't feel as nice as the Tuono. Of course Aprilia are not paying me its how the bikes felt on the day
aprilia have released something special this is a great base of what's to come can u imagine a factory version and bigger capacity later on with all the dogs nuts
Can we have an up to date comparison between the latest 660 Tuono Factory and the latest street triple? I’m trying to decide between the two and I could do with as much help as I can! 😁 I’ve heard many horror stories about the 660 in both its guises and it does worry me a bit.
TMF, like your channel but nothing controversial there at all. Chopsy gave his complete and utter honesty without sitting on the fence like a lot of other RUclipsrs do. Really good in-depth review of each bikes chops
The cool thing about the 2020+ Street Triple R, is that you can easily unlock the top end power and give it the same output as the higher spec RS. Triumph no longer reduces power on the R with a softer cam and different fuel and ignition tables. The R and RS are the exact same motor. All Triumph did was play with the ETV(ride by wire) tables and tell it to reduce top end power. You may twist the throttle to 100%, but after 6500rpm it reduces the output to only 81%. You can change that in 15 minutes with TuneECU and an Android phone. Ni remapping, nothing. Just change those throttle restrictions to "100" to redline and you get full power. There is 5-8hp sitting there waiting to be unlocked.
@@LambChopRides Yeah, I discovered it when going through the ETV tables in TuneECU, and shared that with folks on my channel, and some folks with the new Street R verified it and unlocked their bikes and they gained good power up top without sacrificing anything anywhere else... Triumph does similar throttle restrictions on the Thruxtons and Bobbers...

Fantastic sight seeing the speed the Deer get to poor things.Someone sticks a sliver of tarmac through their natural habitat and its their fault for not looking left and right.I see huge herds of them when riding around the outskirts of Harewood House.Another good vid.
thanks Chopsy.Glad to see the biking Gods were looking after you too.Couple of seconds difference and the cops would have been swooping as you joined the dual Carriageway.
You can buy the IMU as extra! Great video and great bikes! I will take the new MT-09
Time for an update! Tuono 660 Factory vs Street Triple RS 😮
Great apples to apples review comparison LC!
Great work. I can't afford either because every time I mention new bike we end up down the home improvements route. Great reaction when you saw the plod 'grab a big handful of front' doesn't give it away much when the light comes on, lol I do it all the time myself. Should probably look in them mirror things they attach to the bikes but there is always to much going on to bother with them things. Joking of course. Thanks for sharing. Another enjoyable watch
I like that Tuono but I think I would have more fun on the STR, so I'll say STR this time. Nice review Chopsy.
Your still the best reviewer in the UK. It'd be good if you could start to do a bit of a riding gear review as that seems to be a bit of a segment that most channels don't cover. Just an idea. Keep up the good work mate. Cheers from Melbourne 👍
Thanks Craig appreciated 👍
Aprilia has always had the best chassis in business. I own a Streetfighter v4, a Street Triple and a Yamaha and I used to own a Tuono.
Triple R, Tuono or the new MT 09?
love the humming sound of the Triumph. Reminds me of my old CBR900
Street Triple fan for sure 👍👍❤️😀🎃
“It doesn’t have to be the fastest bike in the world” - says a hopped up H2 owner😚
I’d go with the one that has 100 extra HP!
100 extra cc
Ducati Streetfighter would have extra 100 hp.
Ducati Streetfighter one ugly bike🤮
Looks like noone watched the video apart from us two mate 😂
What for on the road honestly you use 180hp-200hp on British roads and you are 💯 % going to prison these are more than enough for most people unless you do the small willy waving down the pub with your mates 😂
Great idea for a video. Good job!👍
Great Video...I’m yet to ride the Tuono but I think the street triple will take some beating. Take care Jake.
Haha well I'm really hoping it will be back in the summer! I'm chasing weekly on progress now on the cylinders
Excellent review as always LC, I would add a few quid and get the Street Triple RS. Traded up my old 675 R a year ago and tried the competition but nothing came close.
I recently got a 2015 street triple r and its probably the best road bike ive ever ridden.
Superb review, it's a win win situation with which ever one you chose. How do you think the 790 Duke measures up to the Tuono 660, it would be great video to see. I'm really enjoying your content, bit of everything, funny, informative and great bikes.
Thanks Paul, the 790 wouldn't handle or stop as well for sure. New 890 now that would be interesting.. 🤔 👍
Nice one chops , at the mo I'm pretty sure my next bike will be a triple never owned one
Street triple’s are amazing bikes !
@@RiderReviews a buddy of mine has the street rs really cool bike wouldn't say no to one but I'm leaning toward a speed triple
Thanks Mark 👍
765 r must be a great bike but tuono 660 seems more fun on road. I love Aprilia bikes (have an rsv mille R '02 and it's fantastic even today) and 2 cylinder...if only was an 800 cc and 120hp...
Good vid as always!!
I wonder, did you adjust the Triumph suspension? I test rode a Street last year and at first I wasn’t impressed because of the handling. I went back and we adjusted sag, compression and so on and it made a huge difference. The factory settings were not great.
Great video mate 😀 one of these is going to be my first big bike 👍
Thanks for the comparison Chops , both seem to be great bikes in their own way I wonder which would have the better resell value , a long term test is a great idea for making the final decision easier Ride Safe
Yes good point 👍
Great video and review Chops.... think id choose the Tuono and try and get qs n blipper in deal👍👍👍
This might seem a bit daft BUT Suzuki have the GSX750 (cheaper) and the GSX1000S under 10k - would they not be reasonable comparisons on cost?
Yes absolutely 💯%
Hi Tony, which bike did you go for in the end?
All the best
Simon
No mention of build quality - Ride magazine said the Aprilia was a little off with paint quality in the odd place and quite plasticky in others. Perhaps not as premium as it's bigger brothers. I've got a STRS (2018) which is pretty well finished in most areas. All depends of course if you have OCD or not. You don't look at the mantelpiece and all that...
Yes indeed, build quality on the Triumph is nice, bit more plastic on the Tuono agreed 👍
He did, though, mention the superior triumph build quality
@@peterrooney8236 I was more wondering what he thought of the Aprilia in comparison as I know how good the STR is through owning one.
Can you compare the Tuono 660 to the 2021 CB650R ABS?
I am watching this 3 year old video and just realized the new Hornet 1000 undercuts the MSRP of a 3 year old 765. Awesome.
Hey Chops, @ 14.15 was that showing the love for the Triple 🤣🇬🇧👍
Bud, it's pretty simple to take the tc off the Triumph. It took me less than 20 seconds to figure that out in the showroom.
Thoroughly enjoyed. Many thanks!! 😄
Do you have a Patreon or similar? Would love to support!
Another great vid chops 👍👍👌👌
Thank you!
Chicken???? Street Triple R for me. Great vid 😎😎😎
Thanks chops excellent reviews on both bikes like both bikes .thanks from danny
Try the Aprilia Tuono 660 factory, incredible bike
Great video Chopsy 👍😊
Tuono seems more fun and i love the styling. I would go with that one.
Fantastic and entertaining review and comparison as always👍🏻🍻 I wonder if the RS would give the triumph the edge back in terms of handling and whether the RS M50 calipers and radial master cylinder would put the triumph’s braking feel ahead.
Yes the RS brakes are fantastic, as good if not better!
@@LambChopRides 👍🏼thank you for your insights Chops
I’d take the Street Triple R over the Tuono all day long. Plus the cost of the quick shifter takes the Tuono into Street Triple RS territory. This just shows what an absolute bargain the Street Triple R is 😁
It is as it's an aging bike that they need to sell. The new Street Triple will cost more and will be hopefully more up to date.
@@22Epic Well, the new street triple r is out and it costs the same. You also get better reliability and more dealerships with the Triumph. Adjust the suspension and it handles as well as the Aprilia, but with more oomph.
“Is that a chicken?” 😂😂
just wait for the factory or the r version of the tuono.. fully adjustable suspension lighter weight and more power coming.
Good review, and .... some new bikes now have rear blind spot radar. Seems like you could do with Police detection radar :-D
I was shocked when I firstly saw that Triumph have put the standard axial brake pump on the R model.. looks like bad decision to me from your opinion on the brakes.
Pretty unique comparison, searched for french content but it hasn’t been done yet, massive thanks
So if I want to go full send, the tuono might be the best suited for that ?
Yup agree, or try the RS Street 👍
Great review... totally agree with what you said about the Tuono re IMU & quick shifter. I'd have the Tuono all day long and sit in my garage with the MV 👌
Oooh.....controversial Chopsy....you can go off people....(great vid though pal!)
No controversy TMF, when dealing with reality; the Tuono has the Street trumped!
Haha it was a tough call and didn't want to sit on the fence with the result 😅 both epic let's be honest 👍👍
@@LambChopRides ...well one of them is for sure...
TMF, like your channel but nothing controversial there at all. Chopsy gave his complete and utter honesty without sitting on the fence like a lot of other RUclipsrs do. Really good in-depth review of each bikes chops
Controversial ??! Absolutely Not ! An Honest Review YES !!!
Ah very interesting indeed 👍👍
@@LambChopRides Yeah, I discovered it when going through the ETV tables in TuneECU, and shared that with folks on my channel, and some folks with the new Street R verified it and unlocked their bikes and they gained good power up top without sacrificing anything anywhere else... Triumph does similar throttle restrictions on the Thruxtons and Bobbers...
Horses for courses but would have to be the Triumph for me. Great comparison review. I think we all had a laugh at the Police car incident. 😂😂
Great vid as usual shame science hasn't come up with a dayglo detector yet.....
Thank you very much for this very informative video. And now we have the tuono factory, with imu quick-shifter, blipper, fully adjustable suspension, shorter transmission for more nervousness... It looks like it meets all the conditions (apart from the price? To see....)Have you tried it?
Subbed. Even tho u said twice, without correction ( tho u corrected urself the first time), something about extra '100 hp' when u clearly meant 'extra 100cc'
A great Thank you from France for your vidéo ^^ . I am Currently in big hesitation between these two bikes and I appreciated your comparison which stayed objective . Thank you and ride for fun !!!
