Actually i'm a professional heating installer and i have to say this is a very in depth video and you see he knows what hes doing. good job
Thank you!
Nice job
What would you guys suggest for an exterior tile heating system? I know schluter won’t work for outdoor use
What’s the secret to installing then laying a vinyl plank floor?
He has installed dozens of them and it shows for sure
I was looking at videos to see how people hooked up the electricity. They almost all skip over that part, but that was the part I was most interested in. Yours was incredibly in depth. I know this takes a lot of time to stop work, record, explain everything, edit it, etc. Thanks for investing the time to educate us all. We appreciate you!
I love that you didn't edit out the bit where the wire fell back through the wall. Cuz that is what always happens :)
Always!
@@HouseImprovementsis there suggestions if applying on large areas (like 500+ square-foot)
Everyone has lost the fishtape at one time or another! Glad you left it in…..
Im a contractor and getting ready to install the same size you have, I have installed one about seven years ago🤠..so thanks for the refresher course..you did a great job and easy to follow along 👍🏼
Excellent instructional video the best one I've seen thank you 42 years as a contractor
Glad it was helpful!
This guy’s channel is something quintessentially Canadian at its best. I keep finding his videos (which aren’t that easy to find sometimes) and his instructions are better than all the hundreds of other channels. And yet he’s the most modest non-showy guy. That’s Canada at its best. Reminds me of Wayne Gretzky , Scoring 5 goals in one game and then just saying he was lucky and has great teammates. Lol
Thanks for the kind words, my channel is easy to find if you save my channel link and also subscribe! LOL.ruclips.net/user/HouseImprovementsfeatured
@@HouseImprovements haha sorry I thought I was already subscribed. Now I am
Excellent video! I like the fact that you're thoroughly explaining the installation. I'm handy, but by no means a pro... I am doing all the planning for my own bathroom floor, and this is a very useful resource for me moving forward! Thank You!
Shannon, this is a great instructional video. My last home had hydro heated floors of which I dearly miss! May think about doing this in the master bath remodel we’re half way done with. Thanks a ton, and keep the good content coming.
I like your videos. Very detailed and helpful information.
After watching your video I did my own backsplash in kitchen and it came out great.
I was planning to redo our main bathroom and thinking about floor heating. Your video just came on time!
Thanks and keep up new video!
This guy did a great job on the tutorial. Like he mentions, it's an easy system but there are a lot of little details. He covered them all.
Much appreciated!
Looking forward to watching this video later! I wish we would have installed floor heat in our bathroom.
excellent clarity, enunicated, organized, informative and in-depth!!! Could be a Schluter training video. Well done, keep it up.
Very well explained. Am getting ready to install one in my custom built house. I feel confident to tackle the project after watching your video.
Thank you so much for all your videos. I found your treasure of a channel by chance and it has been helping me out a whole lot.
Great video with all the detail required. Thorough and easy to understand.
Best floor heat how-to video in the world!!
All of your videos have been so much help in our house flipping adventure! Thank you and keep up the great work!
Just a small comment to help to get you recommended on youtube.
Great video, still confirm you are the best renovation RUclipsr. I have already installed floor heating cable, but I have to admit, I got a lot of issues with the "self-levelling" concrete. This system seems far better. I will try it when I will renovate my other bathroom.
Continue your good work.
Yes I find the self leveller causes more problems. This is really easy. Thanks for the comments.
Great video, way better and much more detailed then Schluter instruction video, especially on how temp leads are installed. Thanks
Best video on Ditra floor heating!
Great video ! A big fan of the Schluter products and love the ability to heat the floor so easily. Nice in depth look at this product. Thanks :)
Nice Job explaining the process very helpful
Thank you so much!! You made my day... I was having so much trouble figuring it out!
Followed your instructions.
Thank you
Great video, really easy to follow the whole process.
Great Job and don't ever worry if the video is to because you are giving us great infomation.
Great job explaining.your video was very helpful
Thank you for being so detailed.. Good job.
great video no grey areas very informative
Thank you for all your help keep making your videos
Great , easy to follow. Thank you
This is very detailed. Love it. Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!
Thanks for all the videos!!!
Very informative video. Thanks.
I didn’t know how to do it.with this video I’m ready to instal it👍👌👌👌
Great video. Eh? I appreciate the details you included. Watched you several times while installing my Ditra-Heat.
Really learn a lot from you.thanks a lot for your time, may God bless you.
Thanks this was really helpful.
Thank u so much, u given very useful information in detail
great suggestion with the conduit, i do it all the time for Audio/video areas as an easy way to fish cables inside of finished walls for your wall mounted tv's, etc.. really good for home theater setups that are popular in basements these days.
Great tip!
Nice job on the video ! Really helped me out.
Your amazing bro keep it up, your one of the few I trust
I appreciate that
Great explanation thank you
That was a great video.Very well done
I like how easy the fish tape went through at 35:15. "There it is". Nice
Nice job thank you for the thorough video
That is a really helpful video thanks for all that information
Great video. Very helpful.
Good content doesn't need to be shortened. Good vid, been installing Schluter systems for 10 years
Thank you. Check out this follow up video we recently did.ruclips.net/video/afaOrHhIrXA/видео.html
A well explained indepth video thanks
Great job!
Thanks so much for this
Great nice and clean. I would like to see tile installation
Great video very helpful 👍
Excellent video 👍👍👍
Thankyou very much for one of the best tutorials on this system out there. I now feel confident in installing this system. One quick question about vanity spacing and I have a vanity that has legs and wondering if I am able to put heat cable underneath without any problems. I may have bought a little bit to long a cable so am looking to get rid of some. Thanks from Louis.
Love your videos
great video! helped a lot
Very helpful
Thank you!!
excellent video
Hey i love your videos 😊😊😊
Thanks a lot!
Great Job explaining in detail ! Is that a New Brunswick accent? I will be installing my DITRA heating system tonight with much more confidence after watchin this video.
Thanks for posting the video!
I live in Saskatchewan.
Bro you are knowledgeable
Good video. The reason for limiting the heating cable is due to the change in linear expansion during temperature cycling. There is a slight chance that this could potentially cause the heating cable to fray and create faults.
very helpful video
Thanks!
very, very good video👍👍👍
Like all of your videos
You did an amazing job showing what everything is and explaining each part of the install. The 4 negative ratings must be ur competition lol
Excellent!!!!
What do you recommend for vinyl plank flooring without using leveler.
Thanks for the great video. When you power on the system for the first time, and run through the setup, how do you calculate the value for floor load? My contractor said to leave it at 0.1kW, which I did, but it seems like a cop-out -- that said, it's working beautifully, so I'm guessing there are minimums for the system. Sorry for the rambling, great channel, you have a new fan, your insight is appreciated. (Go Riders!)
Always the best detailed videos..thanks! Is that a 15a circuit?
For this size of floor, yes.
Nice explanation and demonstration. Just wondering about use of Hardiboard under ditra heat membrane as a base in an RV heated floor project. When should you use cement board to stiffen subfloor?
Schulter website will have recommended substrate thicknesses and support spacings for Ditra heat applications. Also they will list a tech support # which may be the best bet for you situation since it is not a standard home installation .
Awesome!!
What’s the square footage of cable did you use in that bathroom
I love the video and get a lot of good information from them. Would you be able to make a video about how to apply and remove masking tape to prevent peeling or damage the paint?
Use “Frog Tape” and apply a very thin bead of caulk between the top of the tape and the wall that you’re painting. You can paint right over the caulk. DO NOT allow the caulk to completely setup. Pull the tape as soon as all coats of paint have been applied. Your paint lines will be RAZOR sharp!!! If you have a scrap piece of drywall, try this method on it so that you can really get you process and timing down. You will be amazed.
Classic fishing. Catch and release
Thanks for the videos Shannon! I have done quite a few tiling jobs and have always used cement backerboard over the plywood. So Ditra eliminates the need for backerboard? (assuming the floor is level)
Assuming the current structure is thick enough and sound. You can pour self lever first if the floor is out or wack then install the Ditra over that.
Do you need an air vent in the bathroom if you are installing heating floors
A tip from people who put in radiant in floor heating. Run a piece of conduit and have it come up in the corner of a bathroom vanity or other hidden place. If a sensor fails you can pull out the old one and stuff a new one down using a fish tape
The sensor needs to be under the flooring so I'm not sure how you would do that. I installed two sensors and only hooked one up to the thermo, this leaves the extra as a spare behind the thermo. 35Min. mark.
Another Great video. approximately how much content you've published to date?
Check my channel. We are over 400 videos I think? Lost count , lol
Very good video. This is a nice product, but more ideal for bathrooms as it becomes too costly for larger rooms
Bathrooms and kitchens are great
Excellent video. Why do you use two sensors? Are they connected to the same terminals at the thermostat?
One is a back up so if the first one has issues you unhook it at the thermo and hook up the spare.
Shannon, does the floor heating system need a dedicated electrical circuit? I'm bringing a 20amp circuit for a GFI in the bathroom and didn't know if I can use this circuit for the floor heating. There will only be one outlet in the bathroom. Thanks!
Yes it should be a dedicated circuit for the heat.
Nice.
My heating cable is now run through the conduit to the box, sticks out approx 36". Heating cable has been run in the Ditra heat membrane, perfect! Now What do I do with this excess wire on this end that is sticking out of the box? I'm not suppose to cut it. Video doe not show any excess sticking out of the box before the thermostat is installed. I have way too much cable to wind u inside my double gang box. Suggestions
Aah! The moment the cable slips right back into the wall... a keeper.
Thanks for doing this in depth series on the Ditra products. I think their waterproofing system is very well designed & you make it look easy.
Have you ever used their styrofoam shower curb & pan system? Having seen Styrofoam compress underneath other products (big box store showers & tubs) I really hesitate to use it underneath a custom tile job.
.
I have used their shower bases and curbs 4 times. All worked out fine and are pretty easy installs. The foam curbs are all best used with small glass panels or sliding type glass doors, so they are not supporting too much weight IMO.
I have been installing Schluter pans with curbs and curbless, with tile ranging from typical shower mosaics all the way up to the gauged porcelain tile panels (3’x9’!) for 6 years. With proper support from your subfloor (important)-there has never been an issue. It isnt an industry hack like some of the other cost cutting methods you mentioned, it’s expressly made for this application, and does it well. It shines most when you start wanting to use larger tiles in your shower and require a stable slope, which hot mixes can’t guarantee well. But ultimately the time saved and minimizing extra weight are the reasons most tile installers have switched.
Hey, I’m just wondering.. I’m planning on installing tile flooring and everything I read says to use cement board onto of the plywood subfloor, to keep my tiles from cracking. I also want to make the area heated and have read a couple times that the Ditra mat, essentially replaces the need for cement board. Can you please clarify for me whether or not I need the cement board if I use the Ditra system? Thanks!
If you use the Ditra mat DO NOT use cement board underneath
amazing video! many thanks! Can this be used under engineered wood floor?
A glued down engineered wood floor could be. Check your flooring manufacture to see if they recommend it. Also here is a little info from Schluter themselves.
ruclips.net/video/AXGhEUt_3v0/видео.html
@@HouseImprovements many thanks! :)
What is power consumption per square foot for this floor?
I think the half way tag is for a pattern that skips forward then backfills in reverse.
could be
can something like this also be placed under a floating floor. like the snap together stuff. I want to lay down that vinyl snap together stuff that looks like tile.
It depends on the flooring. The flooring must be able to be installed over electric heat cable floors. If it can you could do this and then use a self leveller over the Ditra to embed the entire cable I would think it should be fine ,however I have never done that with this product. I think most plank flooring only allow Hydronic floor heat not electric but I could be wrong?? Check with flooring manufactures
I used to use schluter products and they were great but couldn't find them lately so I used laticrete and I tell you I will never go back laticrete is greatly superior than schluter in my opinion but that's just me I used schluter for years and the first time I used laticrete I was hooked. I'm not trying to sway anyone but if you like schluter don't try laticrete because you will not want to go back 💯.
I’m just confused, why not have a second conduit pipe for the thermostat wiring? Or Can you run all three items in one conduit? I thought that was the point of the conduit. You did a great with this video. Thanks again
It should be run separate. It does not need to be in a conduit though because it is low voltage. Run it up the wall cavity and sneak it into the box through a hole .
hi there, great vid. did you mention that the 14/2 supply needs to be AFCI breaker protected. thanks
I did not need that , the thermostat here has its own GFCI protection built in. Cant run this GFCI thermo on a GFCI breaker protected circuit
Read, I said afci, not gfci. I know the thermostat is gfci
@@MrTooTechnical GFCI is higher protection than AFCI, so putting a GFCI on a AFCI protected circuit is unnecessary.
No way. Afci is way better.
I run two sticks of conduit. One for the thermostats and one for the heating lead.
Yes, different voltages
Has nothing to do with voltages but electrical interference.
