  • This video shares how to add heat cables during Ditra-Heat Installation. We show how to do the Ditra-Heat electrical installation and Ditra-Heat wire test.
    For more home improvement tips visit www.homerepairtutor.com/👍🏼
    Here are the supplies we used
    Ditra Heat Kit 26.7 SF of Mat -- amzn.to/2XrsFRs
    Ditra Heat Kit 37.5 SF of Mat -- amzn.to/2XBOrls
    Ditra Heat Trowel -- amzn.to/2EGnlm2
    Schluter Kerdi Band -- amzn.to/2Eoryt1
    1/4" x 1/4" Square Notch Trowel -- amzn.to/2T8G5DF
    Schluter ALL-SET Mortar (Gray) -- amzn.to/2Tbly19
    -------------------------------------------------------
    The first step is to plan the Ditra-Heat cable installation per Schluter's directions. For this project we used 3 stud spacing and kept heat cables at least 2" away from the wall and shower curb.
    In addition, our heat cables were 7" away from the center of the toilet flange to ensure the wax ring won't melt.
    We also installed two Ditra-Heat sensors, the second was a back up.
    All Ditra-Heat seams were waterproofed using Kerdi-Band and Schluter's ALL-SET. This is especially important at the Schluter curb.
    Ditra-Heat can be installed and tiled over in 1 day if done properly.
    Watch our video for all the details.

    Excellent video. Informative and to the point. I work much slower than you guys. I plan on doing the Ditra Mats and the heating cable, let everything cure and do the tile on another day.

    I like the Schluter check list for checking resistance value prior to installation and the 2 sensors, great idea. Looks like a quality system.

      Their directions are awesome, very thorough. Plus Schluter is making more video tutorials and doing a great job explaining installations

    Great video. Well done.
    One question though. At 2:35, you avoid the wall and therefore keep only 1 stud distance from the cable. Schluter says that at worse case scenario you can alternate 2 stud and 3 stud patterns but never 1 stud distance. Would that cause an issue? Could the wire melt? Thanks!

    Did you use Tile Leveling system w/ the LFT? I contacted Schluter and they said, I need to do a skim coat of Thinset (Unmodified - I am using Ardex X 5) over the Ditra Heat before using them to ensure that the tab left behind is not directly in contact w/ the heating cable.. Thoughts, Inputs, Suggestions?

  • @cglees

    Given the raised profile of the mat it must surely be the thinset which makes the waterproof seal between the joints not the kerdi band as there will be gaps beneath the kerdi band? Is it just there to reinforce the joint?

    Sir: I am
    A bit confuse . You do all the test but not the one for insulation of the wires which I think require a MegaOhmeter. Isn’t ?

    Hi, Ive seen u pulled the sensor wire along with the lead wire in the same conduit. Have u ever had any issue so far?

  • @kenbwahl7974

    My heating cable is now run through the conduit to the box, sticks out approx 36". Heating cable has been run in the Ditra heat membrane, perfect! Now What do I do with this excess wire on this end that is sticking out of the box? I'm not suppose to cut it. Video doe not show any excess sticking out of the box before the thermostat is installed. I have way too much cable to wind u inside my double gang box. Suggestions

    Heeeey, you all didnt use the corner kerdi waterproof membranes...why? Not needed?

    Great video how much cost the heating system ??

      Thank you, it depends on the size of the bathroom. They have kits or you can get the mat/roll and cables separately. We have links to some kits down in our description

    Great video! I have a question though... I understand the reasoning for keeping the wire away from the toilet flange because it might melt the wax ring... but isn't there an issue with condensation on the outside of the bowl if it heats up?

    • @HomeRepairTutor
      @HomeRepairTutor  5 лет назад

      The floor shouldn't get not enough to produce condensation on the outside of the bowl, unless the bathroom is super cold.

    • @jacobwillow050
      @jacobwillow050 3 года назад +1

      You are actually right. It does makes condensation because of the cold water from the toilet bowl that's why it should never be installed underneath it.

    Talking to my local tile shop today- They were telling me that the thermostat needs to be directly connected back at the breaker box and you cant come off an outlet for your electrical connections?

    • @HomeRepairTutor
      @HomeRepairTutor  4 года назад +1

      the system does need a dedicated circuit at the panel and then you can connect the Line and Load wires to the GFCI protected thermostat

    • @jeffseitzinger3993
      @jeffseitzinger3993 3 года назад

      You should supply a dedicated circuit for this heated floor

    Technically, that tiny one stud leg you did with the wire by the door jamb is not kosher.
