    So it looks like they manage to get an extraction every 4 or 5 days. I'd love to hear about the problems they are finding while testing the systems and how they are trying to solve them for future systems and "missions". Great job everybody!

    • @udishomer5852
      @udishomer5852 11 месяцев назад +3

      The time between extractions depends on the density of plastics in the water, the more plastic there is the shorter the time between extractions.

    I would be interested if plastic waste identification was being combined with mitigation efforts...It seems like for instance those particular laundry type baskets are appearing quite regularly in these extractions. Hopefully, items could be identified as to likely origin and means of ending up in the ocean. Then efforts could be made to improve preventing these items that are frequently appearing in our oceans from getting there in the first place. Maybe present a top 10 items list...Pressure could be applied to governments as well as the plastic manufacturers themselves to help with plastic removal and mitigation efforts...Keep up the great work!

    I’ll keep saying this. Most of the plastics caught is from the fishing industry. So while it may be hard to find solutions for consumer plastic I would say that the fishing industry will be much easier to regulate once we focus all our effort on inventing cheap biodegradable fishing gears

    When the first system was being prepared in San Francisco, CA I remember reading an article. Several environmental organizations were saying that it was not enough, it was not focusing on the right problem, they should do something else, this young man is deluded, etc. The rebuttal was pretty strong. The Ocean Cleanup was willing to tackle one aspect of the problem that is a massive, all hands on deck catastrophe that is only going to get worse otherwise. Other people are choosing to work on twenty different parts of the problem and it is all desperately needed. Prince William is helping with his Earthshot program and Sorted Foods on RUclips continuously talks about sustainability in farming practices and fishing, along with products that can take the place of plastic. It is all wonderfully encouraging and inspiring to show that small changes can add up to a tidal wave of progress. Best of wishes to all involved.

Sure, I am sure it gets very repetitive eventually, and I’m betting it’ll be even more in the future for the people who have to sift through this shit, but I just hope everyone knows that they are 100% contributing to a better future here and we all appreciate them for this. Hope the ocean cleanup can expand even more to multiple nets and crews out at a time.
