I love knowing that there are people who are actually doing something about the problem. For far too long, scientists told us that the problem is just too big, and that cleanup is impossible. Thank you OC for closing the tap, picking up the trash, and showing the world what can be done when dynamic people share a great dream.
I don't think scientists said the problem was just too big. I'm pretty sure that was politicians, paid off by big polluters.
Dutch guy dreaming during secondary school and then quitting university to start this.
I've been watching the progress from day one and a project like this becoming something bigger and bigger - is just a miracle!
thank you all so much for your work!
Its literally just very, very expensive basic fishing.
They have paid .... I don't even know how many millions for a few tons of plastic, when they could have contracted any old fishery to do the same but orders of magnitude more efficient.
@@aenorist2431 Not true at all, the net and process they use is nothing like basic fishing. First off the net design is done to allow ocean life to swim out of the nets and not get caught. The nets also only go a few feet into the water and are not set up to go deep down like fishing nets. Everything from the speed of the ships to the design of the nets is done in such a way to limit damage to ocean life and to collect as much plastic and trash as possible. If they go to fast or too slow the plastic won't be retained in the holding area in the back. If they try to catch the plastic like fishing ships do they risk killing tons of ocean life.
By the way they have been testing their prototypes, they haven't even started the real cleaning yet. Soon we will start seeing more than a "few tons of plastic" we will start seeing thousands of tons of plastic and one day soon a million + tons of plastic.
@@aenorist2431 so what do you propose? just give up and wait till we can walk between America and Europe because there is trash instead of water?
@@aenorist2431 you sound like someone who did something better than this...
@@aenorist2431it is literally nothing like this
What an amazing group of very focused professionals. Fantastic work.
So far they focused on 220 measly tons removed, only 75 million to 200 million tons left to go.. when do you suppose they'll be done Einstein? I await you're awesome reply😂
@@busybody1474 This is only a part of their operation. Metric tonnes or tons? There's a difference, I believe. They have systems in place all over the world to stop the rubbish from getting into the oceans. So, they have recovered a lot more waste than from just the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. A very professional operation that keeps improving their solutions to removing plastic waste from the ocean and rivers.
@@robertwilkes2105 I support the River cleanups which makes sense, slowing the flow of trash into the oceans.. But a few hundred tons of plastic removed from the ocean when there is at least 200 million tons is not even worth mention, especially when most of it is microparticles which their system can't begin to collect. Misguided effort is not worth any effort, no matter how well intentioned. The amount of fossil fuels burned in their cleanup effort is causing more pollution than what they're taking in
I love these video updates. Thank you for kicking ass on plastic pollution. I've leaned a lot through your lens.
Yes, many thanks to the entire Ocean Cleanup organization and crews. Amazing people, great engineering and a great inspiration! Thanks again.
The most amazing thing about Ocean Cleanup's process is that when you open up the nets and release all the plastic crap you've gathered up, not a single fish flops out. You're doing great work and I for one support you completely.
Thank you for helping the eco system heal . From Oklahoma with love.
Schön einen sinnvollen Beitrag zum Umweltschutz zu sehen! lg 👍
What I cant comprehend is the sheer amount of fishing crap they capture, just unbelievable. So in awe of all of you. 💪👍
Every single time I watch new video content my emotions take over. This is a group of scientists, experts and professionals who put their knowledge and time to work for a better, cleaner planet. The whole world, at least the ones not on the run for climate change and war, should be watching this! Without a doubt this initiative will be dubbed in the future as the greatest achievement in preserving our world! Phenomenal!
You guys are simple the reason why there is hope for our oceans, gives me a chance to believe and cleanup the rivers and lakes and places far and wide. Inspiring group on the planet
I am so happy to see the progress... GO System 003!!! You are all such a dedicated group of people. Thank you!
If only there were more people like the ones at Ocean Cleanup.
You make the world a better place to live in.
Respect.
Thank you all for the commitment. Hope see this working here in Brazil one day. ❤
In the meantime, stop brazil cutting down forest and throwing plastic into the rivers
Amazon forest looks so beautiful from up here in Canada 🍁
Congratulations! Excellent work. 👏
All the best to the team and crew members. 🚢🏆♻️
Wow. System 3 results in more than double the catchment.
I can't believe it's finally becoming a reality. What a ride. Here's hoping the weather will cooperate on the next trip as well and the first voyage of 03 will be a massive success that resonates around the world and make the money for more 03s and river solutions pouring in!
🇳🇱🌷🌷Thank you Team and System 002 and a heartfelt welcome to System 003! Goed gedaan team, trots op jullie!
Keep it UP!!!!!
Thank you, each and every person taking part to this operation ❤ Love from France
. . . and Texas
…Merci France …..and The Netherlands 🇳🇱 🌷🌷
And hearty greetings from Auckland New Zealand 🇳🇿
Utmost respect for your work and commitment to cleaning up humanities mess. Thank you, we are all indebted to the Ocean Cleanup Team ❤
This has to be one of the greatest efforts to restore the earth. EVER. So wonderful to see something being done instead of the continuous blame game. Thank you so much for caring enough to change this for the better.😍🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤❤❤
We need livestreams!!! I can watch the ships cleaning ocean for hours!!!
Comment Up here for they look please ☺
Stable internet connection may be difficult on the ocean - but if it works: great idea!
@@erikreimann5556 i think this is very possible m8!
They have a lot of cams in ships for find trash and make analisys on ocean, this need a lot of internet!!!
I think they have satellite internet.
Have a great day m8!
What a gift your team is giving to the Earth. I am so inspired by your work, so grateful for your dedication. Thank you!❤
Amazing that the group is driving from research based to this project. And can see how peoples real feelings and commitment to the project.
I have been following you guys from the very beginning, seeing the evolution of a the different ideas come to fruition and evolve again and again.
Thank you for making a real difference in this world and putting what most of us have thought about into action. You guys are HEROES and HEROINES in my eyes!
This is so exciting and such amazing news. I can't wait to see how system 003 does through out the rest of the year. The dream is becoming a reality and your whole team should be so proud. Thank you for being the heroes humanity and Earth need.
These updates are fabulous, thanks for keeping us posted, thank you for all you do for humanity and the ocean.
You guys are doing great things ! It’s too bad that you don’t get more press, the public needs to know the work you’re doing to clean our oceans 😎👍
Sadly so many people in countries able to fix this problem view it as someone else’s responsibility. I understand most of the pollution comes from developing nations but I strong believe all nations have a responsibility to help this issue and look at ways to stop it at the source for the developing nations
@@matthewrowell8518 agreed ! It would be a much better use if our foreign dollars instead of funding wars.
Fantastic work, I've been watching your content, and the hard work that you do with all your plastic interceptors, and now system 3 is incredible. Also, what an incredible catch size after the first system 3 test length, Amazing when you hauled over 11,000 Kg of humanities carelessness out of the ocean. All of your team at Ocean Cleanup are saviours of Planet Earth - I look forward to the first videos coming back from system 3, I never cease to be blown away by the kinds of things you pull out of the sea. Thank you.
Thanks to those that work hard to be kind to our land and our oceans.
Well done. Thank you for all you are doing for our Ocean and Planet.
I am so excited to see System 003 in action! Keep up all the great work. It is so fun to get just a glimpse at what your field team is doing and how effective System 002 has been.
I do wonder whether plastic manufacturers watch this and think - “I am part of the problem, what am I doing about the solution”. I suspect not - profit at all costs seems the way of the world right now. OCEAN CLEANUP folks - you rock
I remember doing a presentation on "technology and the environment" how the two impact each other and how we can use technology to help our world.
One segment we did was on the ocean cleanup, back when it was still very theoretical and new (I think system 1 had just gone into testing).
I kept up with the developments and I'm almost proud, seeing how far you’ve come and what you have achieved! It really gives you faith that we can better the state of this world
I honestly don’t understand why you don’t run a live stream on every haul, I’d sit and watch folks sorting for hours.
Because they are quite far in the pacific, maritime connection is very limited there and expensive. It would be cool if they could but I guess in the coming year it should be quite possible with good weather and sonething like Starlink.
@@TheGrundigg We might need to get Elon to provide a Starlink setup for the ocean cleanup project.
Unless, of course, Elon personally takes a dislike to the Ocean cleanup people or, their politics or, their brand of sunglasses.
Then he will deny Skylink coverage. 😢 😢 😢
@@franceshorton918You never know with that guy.
11,000 kg that's really impressive! Bigger does seem to be better in this case ;-)
I too have been watching since the beginning even before you had the ships. So very proud of all of you and so very thankful for what you’re doing for the world. God bless you all. 😊❤️
Thank you once again for all your hard work, dedication and for taking us along with you on your journey to make this planet a little cleaner 👍!
On behalf of all the voiceless, nameless and helpless marine mammals (whales, seals, etc) marine turtles, all fish species and crabs 🦀 - theres too much biota to mention BUT THANK YOU for your Herculean efforts to mitigate the plastic disaster we have unleashed on this beautiful, rare, blue planet 💙 💙
Impressive! Well done guys and gals! It's such a satisfactory feeling to see all this plastic landing in the ship's deck.
the work the ocean clean up does is amazing. i cant wait to see how this evolves
Such a wonderful job all of you are doing to clean up the ocean. So thankful for the knowledge and experience you have.
I admire your hard and dedicated work. Keep on going. You are giving me hope!
Thank you for what y’all are doing
always very satisfying to watch the extractions
Absolutely incredible. Thank you thank you thank you!
The water planet needs clean oceans! The Ocean Clean Up is one of the best ecological efforts ever!
Thank you so much for the work you do and for sharing the progress and challenges with us. I love watching these videos.
You're going to need a bigger boat. Good work and stay safe
Thank you for what you do for our planet
Fantastic work ❤
Thank you. I thank you. The world thanks you. From North Dakota.
There must be a very satisfying cathartic feeling for the crew hearing that plastic being dumped on the deck of the 🚢 👍👍👍👍
My respect to the volunteers for this work of love for God's nature. Jesus Christ bless you Hugs from Amazonas Brazil
To the people who fund this thank you.
Thank you so much for your efforts and dedication! ❤
Thanks so much for everything you are doing save us all please we need you😊
love all the work and effort put into this projects!
Its a drop in the ocean, but amazing that somebody is doing it.
I think if every country operated one on its coastline, you would see incredible results, some countries are massive with multiple coastlines and would need several of these vessels, countries that are landlocked could use the much smaller river systems instead to contribute their part
Hi Jason, agree completely!
Greetings from Auckland New Zealand 🇳🇿 where we have a massive coastline. There's not so much trash in the Southern oceans, but it is still evident on our west coasts.
Also, and more shamefully, we've had severe storms recently and in the south coast of the south island, a storm ripped out an old landfill rubbish dump from the 1960's and 1980's. All the litter and plastic debris got scattered along the pristine beaches facing the Tasman Sea.
Last I heard there were still local volunteers cleaning the beaches by hand. 😢
We should remember: "NATURE BATS LAST"
😮
Cannot wait to see system 3. if system 2/3 captured over 11KG, then full system 3 will be a monster! Congrats .
Such great work you guys are doing on taking plastics out of the ocean ! its sad they are there in the first place... L.A Rob
Great to see stuff being removed from the ocean. Impossible not to notice how many fishnets there are.
Congrats for these goals! I'm really impatient to see the first tests of System 3!
Amazing! Can't thank y'all enough for doing what you're doing. Have been supporting and following everything right from the very start (man, Boyan was a boy back then!) and will continue doing that until those oceans are EMPTY!Q
Once you start operations, would it be useful to publicize the most frequent items (by number, or by mass)? I remember seeing some ”crab traps” on your first runs - are those still coming? So we could exercise some power to the ”polluters” to find biodegrading alternatives.
Very well done all.
Thank you for all the work you guys do ❤️ would love to be apart of something like this.
Everything´s impossible ... until it´s done.
This makes me happy!! You guys rock!!
Complimenti e avanti tutta
Big news! So happy. What an outcome. Very happy and proud.
Gosh. It’s just crazy to see all that garbage come out of the nets. And seeing full plastic bins and giant nets, it’s just mind boggling to see.
Mother Earth needs u to take rest and come back with all new upgrades to heal the planet more
U have all the blessings and love from all around the globe
Tons of love from India ❤
Thank you for cleaning up the sins of humanity you're very appreciated!!! 💙💙💙
Awesome job to clean up as much as you have. You are making a difference and I think its fantastic. Thank you.
Well done guys and girls. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌 👍 thankyou
You guys are the best thank you so much for your hard work and an amazing passion you all possess
All the countries and their people should work together to help on their own way with this kind of project.
Although it was not the original plan to have the system towed by crewed vessels, and even though that arrangement was forced upon TOC by circumstances, you can see the side benefits of having the vessels on site - immediate extraction of the plastic, real-time observation, timely on-site repairs and adjustments, and flexibility in responding to conditions and in executing the mission.
I would like to give a suggestion to increase digital influence. Try to get big media influencers on board, even if it's just a video. That would spread your message and put more people towards this beautiful cause. Thank you for all your work!
CONGRATULATIONS ‼️
Thank you so much 💥💥
Love and support from Newcastle NSW AU 🥰
Thank you so much for all you are doing , it is amazing ❤️ , I will keep plodding along collect my daily bag full from my beach in Cornwall UK.
True heros of the planet
Congratulations!!! Major milestone 🙌
Amazing, humbling work - thank you.
Thank you, from all the people that Love the sea... ❤
you could do a youtube live during the system’s lift and trash sorting, that would be awesome and I will be watching 😀
this is amazing! congratulations and excellent work! Thank you
We are so much proud of you🙏🙏🙏
Having read Moby Duck years ago I wish you all the best in your vital work. The book really brought home to me the damage we do to this wonderful planet. Many seem to think we have a spare ready to go! Had already subscribed to your newsletter email and now this channel.
Fantastic! You've made such great progress!
