  • At 1758m in length, System 002/C is the biggest system we’ve had in the water so far - but if we want to tackle the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, we need to go even bigger. And although we’re not quite there yet, we are making solid progress as seen in our latest progress report from offshore. Make sure to subscribe to our RUclips channel to stay updated: bit.ly/371k8sN

A very expensive way to collect barely anything? I'm sorry but they don't give a fuck about fixing anything. The CEO is another tech weirdo with a dumb idea that people are apparently too blind to see

I continue to be appalled at the garbage that is discarded into the ocean. I wish the fishing industry were held accountable for the damage they are doing. But I am amazed and encouraged by the work you do. Your super human level of perseverance benefits the entire planet!

the waste they are collecting goes even beyond the fishing boats, that's trash dumped by commercial ships, trash washed out by rivers where communities dump their waste etc. Is it true commercial shipping and Navies of nation s can still dump waste at sea?

Thank you Ocean Cleanup for this work. I would like to know the estimated mass of floating plastics along with the average mass captured per haul, and the time frame to move the plastic onshore, then return on-site. Obviously using that information to estimate a cleanup rate is complicated by not knowing the source loading rate, yet it would provide some sense of the effectiveness of this valiant effort.

Going bigger is great as long as the components can handle the increase in stress, as someone that worked as a manufacturing engineer in the aerospace field I know all too well that bigger isn't always better because everything has it's limitations. Go too big and you lose the ability to reel it all in and dump it or the added stress causes a component to fail or even a chain reaction that takes everything out, smaller may seem like it takes longer but efficiency is the real key component to any system working well. I wish you guys well, what you are doing is important to the long term survival of our species !

I just can't believe what we as humans have done ..., and keep doing, to our oceans. The buck starts with us and it has to stop with us. All I can say is 'thank god' there are people around the world that 'do' care about the world in which we live ..., and the creatures we share it with. One person will never be able to change things single handedly but with Organisations like The Ocean Cleanup and their team of supporters ..., anything is possible. The Power of People is ever almightly. 😊

I presume you do sampling in the region behind where you have just traversed. What can you tell us about that? I would imagine that behind the area you have just cleaned, there is diffusion of the plastic trash from the sides of the traverse back into the area you have just cleaned. How long does the traverse stay cleaned? How cleaned is it? How much microplastic is left behind a traverse?
Thanks for the work you are doing! It is truly amazing.
