I have tried using Sigma MC-11 with Sony a7iii using lenses, Sigma 8mm fisheye, Canon 50mm f1.8 and 70-200mm f2.8 IS ii, but non of above lenses worked even a bit for video AF. For photos every lens was working absolutely fine
How about eye/face focus for photos?

I tried shooting bird in flight video on all my old Canon crops and it would never AF with my Sigma 150-600c. No problem on MC-11 and A7III even at 600mm it can manage useable focus in most situations. Its had a good few firmware updates since May. Each update that comes along seems to make it quicker.

It's cool to see the video autofocus working at 4:00! But probably only on the A7III, not the A7RII?
I'd be curious how the new "Commlite CM-EF-E HS" with the newest firmware (v22) works for video autofocus. I saw it works but probably only for select lenses.
It seem pretty clear on the video but do you have other Canon lens that works with the MC-11 sigma adapter. My Canon lenses doesn't AF on video, was about to return it but I guess only certain Canon lens do work fully with the adapter ? Is that correct ? Thanks for your video !

Stop Press, I have 4 different Lens adapters EF/EF-S Lens and Sony E mount. The one for me is the7artisan Version. It leaves the others for dead, and a fraction of the cost.
(I have a special recommendation for the Meike MK-EFTE-C VND one, because it allows Drop-in Filter and works well with manual focuses).

Ok so a year later has anything changed? Also with you testing the sigma 18-35 - would the 17-50 be comparable. I just picked up an a7rii & considering I'll be using mostly super35 for video I figured this lens shouldn't need to be replaced(I also use it on my gx85 + speedbooster). Seems like there are even more options now too...
So how does the metabones did at 105mm
I had assumed continuos AF didn't work shooting video on the Sony with an adapter. These are great news.

Thanks for the video. I bought and returned the sigma mc 11 because it does not support autofocus in video mode. Photography is fine. I think the focus breathing you saw on the metabones was because it was the only one trying to focus... maybe.
As I mainly do video I decided converters were a no go.
So you ended up buying a Sony lens instead?

I have this exact combo and have had no luck getting autofocus to work. Not even any breathing/hunting. I haven’t updated the camera firmware yet or the MC-11. Both were purchased in September last year. Am I missing something? Any tips would be super appreciated.

Sergio Derder they all work pretty well. If budget is an issue I recommend Commlite.
you can do a reviu with mc11 and a tokina lens, preferably 16-28mm thanks.

Great review. Thanks for doing it. I just got a A7III and about 6 or 7 canon lenses. I have a v2 or v3 EF to Sony metabones and tried a 24-70 and it did nothing. I also have a metabones EF to 4/3 for my GH5 and it breathes so much it is almost a waste of time to auto focus video (but the shutter and aperture work great) So I bough a 1.8 Sony full frame lens with the A7III ( I bought it today because I HAVE to have fast auto focus on moving targets in video) and the native Sony FE 1.8/50 works amazing , even though it's a pretty cheap plastic lens. ($250) So I have to agree with you that the only way to get a good shot is with native lens.

Zac Rogers if you are using the version 1 of the 24-105 it may not be compatible. I didn't adjust my AF settings at all.

Hey, really enjoyed the video. Found it super useful with making my decision. Curious: were you able to use any of these adaptors on the Canon 16-35 mm and 24-70mm lenses? I use the metabones with the 16-35mm very often and it works great for me. I divert to the MC11 for the 18-35mm in crop mode a lot as well. Thanks for the comment👍

I have the MC-11 with canon L glasses but it doesnt really do AF on video. The only thing that works is my sigma 35 art. Is there any settings i need to change on camera?
I think the mc-11 says on the side "for use with sigma approved lenses only" or something like that. Probably better get a Metabones.

I have the a7iii, mc-11 adapter and sigma 35 ( canon mount). When I have it in video mode with this combo it makes all kinds of clicking and moving noises and the camera just searches for focus. Is this a setting problem? I’m totally new to video. Photos are great, focus is much more reliable than it was on my canon.
I would check to see if you're in the latest firmware for both adapter and lens. It may just be that's the way the lens functions.

They sure do.
I use the MC-11 and it doesn't work at all with the Canon 24-70mm, 85 f1.2 prime, 70-200 sigma, or 105 sigma macro on video. Works fantastically on photos though. Might have to try the Metabones... Thanks for a great vid!

I have the Commlite, and it has major exposure problems in video mode. Works fine in photo mode tho.
Strange, I guess there's no real QA in the mounts as they are so affordable.
looks like he metabones was the worse, missed focus on the last 2 lenses, it was focusing on the background.
How about a Video on adapting Sony Lens to Canon M series ?! Bought a Sigma UC Zoom MC AF 70-210mm and this topic is non existent as finding a adaptor on EBAY for it ! GEEZ?!

For photography is good (not perfect) and for video only work in manual mode. Autofocus es very sloooow, unusable. any way I bought sony lens and now all is ok, thanks for your coment.
Which Sony Lens did you buy for Video? I just bought A7III and Metabones and while continuous AF kind of works for video in Advnaced mode, the lens motors chatter loudly, which is extremely audible and I fear may damage my lens. Main lens is Tamron SP 24-70mm F2.8 DI VC Mark 1 for Canon EF Mount. I also tried a Canon EFS 18-55 lens and AF Motor chatter is quieter, but still audible.
I have bought: FE 16-35 f4; FE 28 f2; FE 55 f1.8; Rokinon AF 35 f1.4 and FE 85 1.8 for more lage focals I use my canon lens: 100mm macro and 70-200 with metabones in manual mode, the advance mode is not good for me.
Thank you for your reply! I bought the Sony FE 18-105 F4 PZ. The AF performance seems good so far and the video very sharp. Lens has some minor annoyances, but for $550 was worth the money. I would like a full frame native video lens, but can't afford the $2500 for the cine lens right now. I am annoyed that I spent $400 on the metabones V when I can only really use my Canon EF Mount glass in manual focus for video. The Metabones/Sony A7III also doesn't autofocus well with my Tamron 150-600 that I use with my Canon 5DIII for shooting soccer stills so will continue to use Canon 5DIII and Tamron lens for that purpose. Hi Sendy, The metabones has two operation modes, the Advanced mode(LED in red), which is for video.

Tried it in both "green" and "advanced" mode and it doesnt work, even updated the firmware, it just hunts without focusiig on anything, on the A7III...

As far as I understand, with any adapter, you don't get Continuous AF. You only get Face/Eye Prior. Right?
It's a weird space still. Metabones let's you get continuous AF and the Sigma with a Sigma lens does too. 👍
@@TomasVillegas but when I add Sigma lens with mc-11, Continuous AF mode says 'Invalid'. It won't follow objects, it only focuses continuously on a single spot.

Very Old VID, The Commlite only works fully and as it should with specific lenses. Before you buy a len check out the full list of compatable lenses is on thier website. Some Info. I've just bought a Commlite EF-NEX off the UK eBay for £25 posted. to use with my NEX3. It came in original box as was as new, I have an old Canon 80-200mm AF 1:4.5-5.6 Zoom. Checking the compatibility on the Commlite web site, this lens is not listed, so not compatable. To my suprise Everything worked, as it should. There are only 2 things in all the menu's lists that were blanked out and cant selected. One is the AF/MF Select. That's because the lens has the AF/MF switch. so that doesn't matter. The other thing thats blank is the Single AF/ .The auto focus does work fine, but there no continuous AF.

I recently bought the metabones speed booster 0.64 Ultra II ef - e mount t(fifth generation)... when I put it on my Sony a7s ii there’s a vintage crop that I can only get rid of if I zoom in... do I have the wrong adapter?? Should I switch over to yours?? Helppp!!! (Btw I have full frame L glass)
KenTreeFilms _ yeah speedbooster is for crop frame cameras. These are all full frame adapters.

Metabones speed booster only works with super 35 or cropped sensor cameras. You'll get vignetting if you put that on a full frame.

Tomas Villegas i loved your video. Super informative. are you testing the speed booster version? I’ve only used speed booster on cropped sensors never full frame but it may only vignette on the wider end

If the sigma lens has no breathing on the Metabones, but the Canon lens does, that would signify that it's a shortcoming of the lens rather than the Metabones. Right? I think if you have the money (or get a used one) you should go for the Metabones as it seems to work with the sigma lenses, and definitely works with canon lenses.....but I've heard people say the MC-11 doesn't seem to work (in terms of autofocus etc) with a lot of Canon glass.
Yeah the Metabones is my recommendation. Especially if you can get it used.

Too expensive.
Waaaay too expensive. The Sony lenses (G Master) are even more expensive than their "L" lens Canon counterparts. To replace all my Canon lenses with Sony equivalents would cost me many thousands of £s.
