I have been extremely happy with this Sigma MC-11 on my Sony A7iii. The biggest thing is just to make sure you're using it with Sigma lenses.
Thanks for watching! Follow me on Instagram for daily posts @chadshelldp.
I have used the MC-11 with my 2 Canon EF lenses on my A7iii (24-70 & 70-200) successfully since 2018. I mostly use it for photography & the AF works very well. On video I have had to use manual focusing.
thanks for you comment, same concern, I would like to use MC11 for my Canon EF 70-200 f2.8 to do video... If manual focusing is required or should I touch the screen to focus? Could you give us more details? thx again!
I use the MC-11on Sony a7iii with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS MKII Lens no problems with auto-focus at all especially with the latest Sony updates, eye auto-focus and animal eye auto-focus included.
Hello everyone!
I come across the problem that nobody from youtube reviewers mentions.
I have Sony A7III with Sigma MC - 11 and I've been testing it with Canon and Sigma lenses. I've noticed that my 2 Sigma lenses ( 20mm and 35 mm 1.4 ART ) have Autofocus hunting when I am in Single Shot AF. It doesn't matter if I am outside with plenty of light or in lowlight conditions and it's the same no matter what type of Focus Area use ( I usually use flexible spot (small). Every time I press focus button the lenses hunt for focus back and forth for a moment and when they finally nail the focus you can see flickering on the screen and hear the noise from the lens ( for a quick period of time ).
I don't have any such issue with Canon lenses or with sony. I have all latest firmware on Sigma glass, MC 11 adapter, and Sony A7iii.
Thanks for the video. I have my A7iii on order and I ordered an MC-11 yesterday and I noticed that the link for the MC-11 in your description has a free 32g SD card. I canceled my MC-11 order and ordered the MC-11 with the free 32g SD card from your link. Scored a free 32g SD card by watching your video. Thanks
Awesome! I’m glad you could take advantage of it. I bought mine locally and wish I would have known about that amazon link before!
Hey man! Thanks for sharing this. Was quite surprised mc-11 supported video autofocus with sigma glass.. I was on the phone with sigma a couple of weeks ago and they confirmed video live autofocus was not supported even with sigma lenses.. maybe they did a firmware update or something.
Keep smashing it bro. Your videos are super well made and really helpful 👊👊
Thank you so much man. That really means a lot! And I’m surprised they said that! The product page on B&H says it supports live auto.. I think?
I've had the MC-11 for a almost a year and as far as I know, it's supported C-AF (for as long as I've had it at least), even in the older A6000 which doesn't have AF as good as the newer bodies. It was always smooth albeit not as fast as when using it on something like an A6500.
I have found the continuous autofocus to be a little slow and sloppy on the SONY a7II wiht SIGMA art 1.8 18-35
@@GreenLightLife1 There is now an MC-21 EF-L adaptor for Panasonic, Leica and Sigma-Foveon cameras. It has a TRIPOD FOOT now - maybe they saw your video :)
The description says that AF-C is not supported, yet it's widely reported that the MC-11 EF-E does, so it's likely that it will in practice (probably covering their axx since the lenses were originally designed for SLRs).
The MC-21 should be even better than the MC-11 because the L mount is Sigma's NATIVE MOUNT (!!) now, and they've already upgraded the protocols specifically to optimise adapted lens performance.
I shoot Fuji, yet I've been holding out for a FF just for using my SLR lenses and M lenses on a FF. Not sure if I'll get an S1 or the Foveon first.
I've subbed, and would love to see any reviews of the L Mount Alliance or Fuji :)
I've been looking for a honest review that does not sugar coat anything. I'm a Canon shooter and deciding between the a7III and the 5D4. I could probably get the 5D4 for about $2500 and the a7iii for $2000 but I'll probably need both adapters to shoot video with my sigma lenses and photos with my Canon glass. I'll stick with Canon for now, grab the 5D4, and wait for the next generation of mirrorless cameras to come out
Incredibly smart move from sigma :D just moved to Sony and looking at options and found this out
I used MC-11on Sony a7iii and used Canon 50mm f1.8 alomg with 70-200mm f2.8 IS2 lens.
In Photo mode, AF was working perfectly fine with very fast speed.
But that didn't work in video mode at all, with any of those lenses.
But thing tk consider, I even have Sigma 8mm f3.5 APS-C lens for Canon,
Even that didn't work for video Autofocus.
Now I am confused whether MC-11 supports video AF with Canon lenses or Not
will be same for Tamron 24 70 f2, 8? I am looking for
Dude thank you so much! This video was incredibly helpful and will save me a ton of money.
samee 😅
Hey, i Have major question out form your video. So Basically this adaptor will work best for video if Sigma lens for canon, or Sigma originals or Sigma for Sony? Can you pls share your views
Cool, happy u reviewed this as well !
Sure thing! Thanks for checking it out!
Thank you for making it :)
Appreciate the video. I own the MC-11 and have the most recent firmware in it. I have been able to use my old Canon 28 f1.8 with no issues. Eye AF and face recognition work well too.
I have also seen several other video's of others (Jason Lanier, the Brotographer and one other) that used the following Canon lenses with the MC-11. The 135 f2L, 85mm f1.2L, 24-70 f2.8 mkII, 70-200 f2.8 IS ii, and were able to use CAF and get eye AF as well as face recognition to work. But I have noticed some inconsistencies when it comes to both adapters. Tony Northrup couldn't get the metabones to stop searching when trying to do face recognition and eye AF.
Ah man that’s so crazy! Maybe it’s just the two lenses I tried? I’ve been hearing a lot on canon lenses and sometimes they work sometimes they don’t. Looks like I’ll have to do some more testing!
So if you’re using the sigma 18-35 1.8 are you shooting in super 35 mode? Isn’t that only a crop sensor lens?
Anyone know?
It’s an APS-C lens, yes
All my 3 Canon lenses(24-105, 35mm f2 IS, 50mm 1.8 STM) work really well in photo mode. Continuous AF, eye AF, all work very very well
Andrii Taran with the MC-11 adapter?
Interesting! Can you make a video and upload it so we can check it out and compare?
I think if you're using some of the newer canon lenses eye AF may work but that's just a theory, I'm about to try it once I get my A7iii & mc-11 this week
Continuous af at what speed ? On the m11?
Yeah, I too would like to know how this works out at 24fps and 120fps.
the link is unavailable but I went ahead and bought it via another link. Great review. Thanks!!
Just ordered the MC-11 on sale. Video AF won't be there for Canon EF lenses probably due to different phase detection AF algorithms between the two during this mode.
Ah gotcha. Thanks for the heads up!
is there a newest model for this ? also can we use it with sigma 8mm 3.5 fisheye lens with Sony a73 ? Thanks
Hey bro nice review 👏🏽 so my number one question, did you calibrate the Sigma 18-35 in order to get a smooth focus with the MC-11 ? I have the exact same rig you got (Sony A7III + Sigma 18-35 + MC-11) but when I leave it on autofocus it hunts a lot like it can’t focus on the subject! Any suggestions?
I am thinking about getting a Sony A7iii or perhaps the upcoming A6700 (crop is fine for me). I would plan to use my Canon lenses. Therefore, whether or not it will work with my Canon lenses is critical. Although I don't shoot video, I would want continuous focus for shooting in burst mode.
I think it is the sigma lens give focus tracking in video. Not necessary the mc-11. Because if you put sigma lens on metabones, it also doing pretty good video autofocus. But you put canon lens on mc-11 or metabones neither works for video auto focus.
thankyou , you have answered a lot of questions I had
The picture is too beautiful!
Haha thank you!
Does this adapter works with Canon 70-200 f4
The sigma 18-35 is made of APS-C. Can’t believe it worked on this full frame.
The a7iii has an aps-c mode so it can utilize those lenses.
No surprises :) MC-11 is made to adapt Art lenses to Sony with all features working. With Canon lenses - same as Metabones without the Advanced mode.
PS MC-11 is incompatible with EF-S lenses and some Tokina, old Sigma lenses. You just can't mount them... and the tripod mount... The Metabones is much better build, more solid and compatible. But for the price ... MC-11 is a good option.
Very useful! Now I know why my Canon glass isn't acting as it should. I think I'm about to sell off a bunch of my old beloved Canon primes for Sigmas so I can get the same AF functionality as my 18-35. Thank you thank you thank you for the info.
I'll also add that the object AF always works on my Sigma lens, but the eye AF doesn't always work for some reason in video. Might be user error.
Great review - thank you very much! ... I would like to know how this lens performs on a Sony A7 Riii and on the Sony A9. Also, good to see that Sony finally got their sh*te together and the autofocus works better when filming. ...Me saying as a Sony shooter.
Mate excelent video. I am going to buy Sony alfa a7iii. Definitely I will not able to use Canon Lenses with Sony body at all. But is existing many competitors brands like Sony, Sigma. Could you please shoot a video and recommend a couple of lenses for Sony body the best for the video?
Thanks so much
You can get a Smallrig tripod adapter for the MC-11. Costs something like $35 I think.
Which version 16-35L is that? I have an cheap old v1 Commlite adapter and the Canon 16-35/2.8L II (out of 3) and for photography it grabs focus impressively well. I havn't checked if it can do video, but I can test it against the MC-11 if you want. I have one of those in the mail. Ought to arrive wednesday.
I was surprised to find that my Commlite adapter worked so well with my 16-35 as it does NOT (at all) work with any of my other lenses and I've been using it for manual focus + aperture control and EXIF data.
Do I understand correctly? I also know how to mount my Sigma Canon lenses on a Sony camera?
What about Tamron ef lenses?? Nobody seems to be able to tell, I have a 24-70 g2
I’m not sure. I’d assume they’d fall under the same behavior as canon brand lenses though.
I have Sony A7Rii and purchased Sigma MC-11 and Sigma 18-35 but its not working in video autofocus mode, the focus is keep hunting
Hi. Thanks for the video! I bought Sony a7ii and I have a sigma telephoto lens which I used before with my old Canon Mark2. I’ve been looking for a good affordable adapter for my Sigma. Btw, why sigma lens did you use in this video? 😉
Greetings. Nice video.
By the way, how is the mc11's auto focus on sigma lens during photo mode? Does it work well?
I've tried metabones with canon lens shooting portraits and the af works well, but when I switched to mc11 (still using the canon glass) the af wasn't that stable ( the af sometimes stop tracking ) especialy when shooting a moving subject.
You mentioned that the mc11's af works well with the sigma lens on shooting videos, but what about on the photo mode? Does the af tracking is doing a good job with the sigma lens?
Thank you.
I really hope somebody create an adapter to use our canon lenses in Sony câmeras using the AF continuous for videos.
Have you tried MC-11 + Canon 16-35mm in AF-S, that'll give you more consistent results.
I have the same setup and also have the a6500 and it works a lot better autofocus in a6500 and you have to think that's is a apsc lens so you miss on a7lll the ability to use all the sensor
So you need both metabones mkv and Sigma mc11 if you have both canon lenses and sigma art lenses . 😅
Thanks! Nice review.
Thanks a lot man! And thanks for the follow on Instagram!
Just sold my canon 16-35 f4 should I replace it with the sigma?? Was thinking maybe the Sony 24-70 f4 or 16-35 f4? Whatcha think bro
Gotta get that G Master glass
great review!
would you trust to film a wedding with this setup ?
At this point, yes because I’ve used it everyday for a week. Once you’re comfortable with it, I’d say it was a reliable setup as long as you’re using sigma lenses.
Hi. I have this same setup and in video mode I can't change focus mode. It only stays in AF-C. From my research, that seems to be normal, but did you manage to use AF-C only when pressing a button? In my case, I can only use MF by flipping the switch on the lens, or use in AF-C automatically. I Would like to stay in AF mode, but only begin to focus with a press of a button.
just curious, where did you find out about the rebate? Is that perhaps still available?
Adorama has it for 149 right now!
Yeah, everywhere has it for that price right now! Go through that link in the video description to amazon and you should get a free 32gb card though too.
Hey! Great video! So I have the metabones for my a7s ii, but get connection issues sometimes including not being able to change my aperture. Does the sigma adapter have these issues? I use both Canon L and Sigma Art lenses. I also only use manual focus so autofocus doesn't affect me. Thanks!
Hi! congratulation for your video, please have you any upgrades on AF C on video mode through MC11? Is it better? thanks
I use a sony A7iii adapter mc-11 sigma lens 24-105 f4 and I have problems with autofocus, it takes almost 2 seconds to focus. What to do ?
Hey buddy thanks for the info.. i had a question about since im shifting from canon to sony a7iii and i gotto budget of $3000 in which i need to buy the a7iii and a lens since its a new setup for me.. i shoot mostly videos and a couple of photography project if you could suggest me what lens i can go for in that budget would be of great help... thanks awaiting your reply cheers 😊👍🏽
Isn't that Sigma 18-35mm an EF-S (white dot) lens? How does that work on the full frame Sony camera? Do you have to shoot in crop mode in HD only?
i use the A7 iii with the MC-11 and the Sigma 24-35mm Canon Lens and it works fantastic, in both video and photo mode. Its officially supported by Sigma (for all compatible Sigma Lenses look at the user manual document of the MC-11 adapter on Amazon)
Cool, good to know! Thanks for sharing.
How well does this work with the Sigma 85mm 1.4 ART lens Emount for stills , looking to switch to Sony from Canon!! as well as a a canon kit lens 18-200mm
Can you please share a review using Sony A7iii with Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary Lens... Is that lens usable on a full frame camera? Thanks in advance.
Good morning , i just picked up the Sony a7 iii and i am moving from canon 7d ii and i really dont wanna get rid of my Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2 lens hat adapter would you advise on
how about this adapter for mostly photography?
I used to have that 18-35 with a6500, superior optics and IQ but rather disappointing performance in stills - hunts and misfocuses a lot. For video it is great no complaints. Sigma 35 1.4 performs better in stills
As a hybridshooter a was thinking of buying the 18-35 and the mc 11 for my a 7 3 but if it is not good at stills it is maybe better to buy the new sigma 35 1,4 for e mount... because i want to do both video and stills with just one lens on weddings...
André Bystron that may be a better option. I sold the 18-35 and bought the 16 1.4 dc and the af is on point, both for video and stills. Night and day difference
what does the focus noise have to do with the adapter, the adapter has no motor, I have the mc ll and it works well with Sigma glass, but only does video autofocus with Art lenses like my 35 f1.4 Art, but for photography, it works really good with my old Sigma 50 and 85 f1.4 primes, but no video autofocus, also really good with my Tamron 24/70 f2.8 VC,,,,,,,,, and my Canon 50 f1.4, no hunting, but my Canon 40 pancake it only works good with a center focus point, not outside points, and my Canon 70/200 f2.8 IS ll L it has issues after 135mm except with a center focus point, but overall I am happy with it, and little by little I will get Sony glass, so far I bought the 28f2 / 55 f1.8 and 85 f1.8 to have a small kit with my A7r lll, I still own my Canon 5Dlll but haven't touched it since buying the Sony, but I'm keeping it around just for my 70/200 and 2x converter
How is slog2 on the a7iii? Left the a6300 because of no flat picture profile. Tired of blowing my highlights
So the metabones V is better for photography then sigma mc 11?
Its better now year 2021 after firmware updates
Does the canon 16-35mm f2.8 still not work with your a7iii?
Sweeet! Thanks for doing this review. Exactly what many of us were wondering. And that's an unreal price for this! Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, absolutely man. Thanks for checking it out! I’ve been pretty stoked on it and for the price, you can’t beat it
Is it working to my sony a7s mark 1 in video?
Hello, for Sony alpha a7 iii and Tamron 24 70 f2, 8 lens for Canon which adapter is better. only for photos not video. cheap
Do you know how good is autofocus (in photo mode) with Sony A7iii, mc-11 and Sigma 24-35 F2
What sigma lens did you mount on the adapter? 24-35?
I got a nikkon sigma 18-35 lens...can this mc 11 for cannon work on my nikon sigma lens?
Any opinion change in 2020?
Can this adapter fit Sony sigma lense 18-35mm lense
did you use the apsc mode on the A7 III with the mc 11 ?
Is there any problem on focusing when we use Sigma 18-35 on full frame mode ?
what?? I've seen a few videos with canon lenses and the autofocus works very very well in photo mode... are you sure you didn't miss something ??
I mean, I’m not going to say I didn’t miss something because I’m fairly new to the adapter world. But I have heard a lot of inconsistencies out there on Canon brand lenses working and not working with this adapter. We’re the other videos you watched using these same lenses? And same camera body?
I see you took my advice. Did you see the link I sent you before about the lenses compatible with it?
Yeah man, there were a ton of people telling me to check it out and asking for a review. I’m not sure if I saw the link you sent but I did notice in my research it saying it was fully compatible with Sigma lenses and it may or may not work with other ef lenses.
ido you know if t's working good in af-s with canon 16-35 f4L and canon 85mm f1,2 L in photo mode?
Any recommendations for an adapter for Nikon mount to Sony e mount?
Nice review man! Do you know if the IS will work with canon lenses with this adapter?
I’m not sure 🤔 I’ll check it out today or tomorrow and let you know
Yes it does depending on your canon lens, it works with my canon 24-70 mark II. I still prefer the metabones V it is faster and has a gasket to prevent from dust creeping in.
Green Light Life thanks man!
Emilio Rodriguez oh I see! The lens I was mostly wondering about is the 70-200mm. Thanks man.
If your lens doesn't have Is, it should work.
hello there. im switching from canon. to a7r iii. i have ( all canon mount) 35mm 1.4 art , 50mm 1.2 Canon 16-35 canon 85mm 1.8 canon. which adapter should i go with? 200 euros mc11 or 400 euros metabones ? thanks!! i shoot only stills
Awe that stinks. Focus hunting for all Canon L Glass? (Including 70 - 200mm F 2.8 IS II) So, touch lcd focus is pretty crummy too for video?
Doesn't metabones make a 'cinema' version of the mark V that's more meant for video autofocus? How does that compare?
Yeah, they do! I mentioned that in my metabones v review. I’ve never used it. The camera store near me had never even heard of it haha. If I can get my hands on one to test, I’ll definitely do a separate review on it.
Will contemporary Sigma lenses (such as 70-200 f2.8 OS non-Sports) work with this?
Is that the sigma aps 18-35?
Yeah so I had to put the a7iii in s35 mode.
Guys i need help, i'm currently using Canon gear with 3 lens i.e 18-135 kit lens, 28mm f1.8 and Sigma Art lens 50mm f1.4 . I'm planning to buy Sony a7m3 but due to my budget limit im slight conflicted if i should get sony's kit lens combo or get the MC-11 as i really still love my Sigma lens.... do help. Thanks
Hopefully a firmware update in the near future fixes the canon compatibility
Yeah, that would be dope! I’m not sure how long the sigma adapter has been out though.
There was a firmware release about 1 month ago, did you update the firmware after you bought it?
Yeah I updated it yesterday before filming this video.
Green Light Life ok great! Thanks for video!
CAN ANY HELP ME ? Sigma MC 11 is working with Canon EF lenses for video?plz sugest me..
Does anyone know where i can get a rubber band for the zoom ring at 0:44?
any vignetting using the 18 35 with a7iii?
Would this work with lenses like Tamron 7-200 2.8 G2 (EF mount) on Sony E mount bodies?
Have you looked into Viltrox adapters?
Not extensively. Someone else mentioned them on here. Pretty good stuff?
Hey thanks for the advice, can you tell me how well the mc-11 adapter will do with the Canon Nifty Fifty
I assume it will function like the Canon lenses did in my test. You’ll have control over aperture but no continuous autofocus. Half shutter focus will likely work, but with a fair amount of hunting.
Ok thanks
Any adapter for Nikon? May 2019
Hey thanks for sharing! Very informative. I am looking to make the jump from Canon to Sony and I mainly have sigma Art glass. I saw in ThCameraStoreTV’s review that sigma glass with the MC11 outperforms metabones in both photography and video, is that true to your experience with respect to strictly the sigma combinations? Thanks!
Yeah, strictly with Sigma, I’d agree with that. With photos and canon lenses, the metabones killed the sigma adapter. I’d say the autofocus was comparable for photos with sigma lenses though between both.
In video, u can get by with continuous af and it is fine. But for stills, it tends to hunt and misfocuses a lot when u do burst regardless of speed. It performs better for single shots, half press to prefocus. But the hunting and misfocusing is still there
Thanks for info! Will definitely rent a unit to give it a go before I make the jump.
Oh that sounds like a very different experience from what I've seen from the guys using the latest firmware on the MC11 + Sony A7/A7R III on youtube. May I know if you're using either one of those bodies?
a6500. I have the latest firmware for the camera, mc-11 and lenses. I actually sold the 18-35 ( got the 16 1.4 and solved all the af issues)
Is it a full frame adaptor?
Yes
mc-11 is work good auto focus in movement on sony a7sii with sigma art lens? or this good preformance just for a7iii ?
Yup, the Sigma art lenses should be good with any Sony body that supports continuous autofocus.
thank you brother
What the heck it’s 600$ not 150
Are you using the Sigma 18-35mm in APSC mode?
Yeah, I am.
Hallo Green! i want to ask u, this lens is 27-52.5 at ff and does the aperture remains the same at 1.8 or it chnges as thw focal length?
Hey man! No, it stays at an f1.8 throughout the entire zoom.
Green Light Life do you loose quality?
No, I wouldn’t say so. It may lose a bit of sharpness at 1.8 in general but not terribly so.
THANKS!
The MC-11works good with the EF-24-70 2.8 is mark ii
Mr Green Light life, they increased the price from $150 to $250 after this video... I feel like you should make a video about how disgusting that is!!! once someone highlight their piece of equipment they go running adding more price to it.
Lol great video as usual
