    Hello Duncan, tanks for the video and testing the adapter with that phasetetection AF. I tryed out my lenses with my A6500 and MC-11 (FW 1.08). Here are my results: rather old Canon 70-300mm (4-5.6 IS USM)=Phasedetection available. It feels snapy but its old and rumbles a bit while focusing. Older Sigma 30mm 1.4 (Mark I, Canon EF Mount) = Phasedetection available. It feels very snapy and fast, even at low light difficult structures. It is my fastest adapted lens. Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 Art= no Phasedetection. It works but slow. It is like you said a shame on Sigma, that the newest best lens(es) did not support fast AF. It is annoying. Now I am not shure if I want to replace the old Canon 70-300 with a native Sony 70-200 f4 or a used Canon 70-200 2.8. It is the same price range.

      @DuncanDimanche-sreview  6 лет назад +1

      maccooley70 yeah old lenses will be slower and noisy.
      But remember that sigma designed it to work with certain sigma lenses. So we should be happy that it works with Canon lenses.
      I tried the sigma 18-35 and it seemed decent if AF in photo mode. The problem is that sometimes it will choose the phase detection and sometimes it will choose contrast af and you have no control over that.
      I would also consider the canon 70-200 F/4. Much smaller but great and sharp

    HI Duncan thanks for the review, I've got very decent shot experience and snappy AF with my Sigma Art 35 1.4 and Sony A7 III , Maybe a firmware update?

    • @DuncanDimanche-sreview
      @DuncanDimanche-sreview  5 лет назад +2

      Eric Touati hi there !
      I have done new testing with new firmware updates but I still can’t really get it right with the sigmas nor the Canon. Lol
      But it seems that the A7iii performs way better than any other Sony cameras. My A7riii does an ok job

    Hey, at 4:53 the reason you were missing shots is because you can't have the camera is AF-S shooting a moving subject. Camera should have been in AF-C

    excellent review! informative and fun to watch too! cant understand how you have 2k subscribers with this quality! was interested in the 70-200mm lens and found the perfect video! would you be able to try with sigma 70-200mm 2.8 lens? trying to find the cheapest way to get a 70-200mm 2.8 for the sony a7ii

    • @DuncanDimanche-sreview
      @DuncanDimanche-sreview  6 лет назад

      Farabeats cheers mate !
      I really enjoy making those types of videos and yeah I do wish that I had more followings haha cause those videos takes a lot of time to make but life is tough !
      I might be able to do that but not before a few months. I talked to one of the head guys at B&H and they will let me borrow what even I want once I get back to the US ;)
      I’m just worried that the sigma will act like other sigma and not have the control of what AF it uses like the Canon’s have :Phase detection AF.
      I would go for the tamron version if I were you. Even the first vr version was great. Unless you are shooting videos and in which case you want to go with a sigma

    • @Farabeats
      @Farabeats 6 лет назад +1

      haha i used to make videos too but there is so much that goes on behind it! all the shooting lighting etc and not to mention editing and to see so little following! but i am sure with your quality you will go very far! i usually dont comment of videos but i had to let you know how incredibly well put together your videos are!

    Nice review! I am using mc-11 with a 50mm f1.8 its not that great. I am considering to get the 70-200 f2.8 Is. Also how did you record your video off the camera???

    • @DuncanDimanche-sreview
      @DuncanDimanche-sreview  5 лет назад

      Benjamin Lu yeah it works better with the newer lenses usually. But it is very unpredictable/unreliable. I recently shot with t and the 85mm canon and I had so many photos out of focus.
      The more I use this adapter the less I like it.
      I used the blackmagic video assist monitor. It has an sd card slot to record via hdmi ;)

    • @btcbenny21
      @btcbenny21 5 лет назад

      Duncan Dimanche yes I may need to reconsider and just save up for the Sony 70-200 f4... haha. I’ve recently acquired the 28-75mm f2.8 tamron and it’s a beast of a lens at a fraction of the price!

      Duncan Dimanche May I ask, have you moved from Canon to Sony? I am seriously considering the switch.

    • @DuncanDimanche-sreview
      @DuncanDimanche-sreview  6 лет назад +1

      Chris Severis i have moved from nikon (D80) to canon (7d for the video) then back to nikon (d800) then to sony a6500 (current camera)
      I needed
      4k,
      continues autofocus
      and a lighter camera
      I’m happy with the camera itself but not the lenses

    Great video and good comments/tests. Really useful! On this exact setup using the 70-200mm, have you noticed any unability to focus on video mode, even manually? Trying to narrow down my problems, but neither my Canon 70-200 f4 IS or my 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 DO IS USM can reach focus at all when I go beyond ~130mm. It's worse than a soft focus, the image is almost unusable, specially when doing 120fps@1080p.
    Really annoyed about this, because the pictures you took @200mm are perfectly focused and sharp.

    • @DuncanDimanche-sreview
      @DuncanDimanche-sreview  6 лет назад +1

      Christian Reid what lens adapter are you using ?
      I had no problem in photo mode but the af is in video doesn’t do continuous with Canon lenses (it works fine with sigma lenses)
      Manual focusing isn’t a problem in either modes.

    • @chrisreidbr
      @chrisreidbr 6 лет назад +1

      Sigma MC-11! Just like yours. Firmware 1.12
      It's the image itself that doesn't get sharp enough. I can see that the focus distance is right, and also what should be in focus and what should be out-of-focus (depth of field is clear), but nothing is actually good in the frame (above ~130mm). Both lens are clean, clear, just a variable ND filter that I use on other lenses with no problems, and yet, no good images are achieved.
      Oh, and auto-focus is totally lost! Haha.

    • @DuncanDimanche-sreview
      @DuncanDimanche-sreview  6 лет назад +1

      Christian Reid oh very strange ! Mine were fine.... i’m not sure what is going on with your adapter. Is it doing the same thing with all your lenses ?

    • @chrisreidbr
      @chrisreidbr 6 лет назад

      No. Just the telephoto ones that reach above 120-130mm. I've actually found your video while browsing for a problem like mine, because you reviewed the 70-200mm.
      The image is fine on the 85mm f1.4, 24-105mm f4, 50mm f1.4...it is strange indeed.
      I don't think it's a lens problem either, because it happens with both 70-200mm and 70-300mm.
      I'll try to look further into it, see if something comes up.
      P.S.: Subscribed to your channel and followed on Instagram! Good info and great content! Congrats!

    • @DuncanDimanche-sreview
      @DuncanDimanche-sreview  5 лет назад

      Aliux Saavedra Cantellano it might be down to the camera that you are using.
      The a7rii has a very old focusing system.
      I was using the a6500 which is lightyears ahead of the a7rii

      Hi there !
      did you watch the video ? The autofocus with the sigma lenses is horrible because it uses Contrast AF...
      I shot a wedding with the sigma art 35mm f1.4 and it was a disaster....

    • @GerardoGherman
      @GerardoGherman 7 лет назад +6

      Duncan Dimanche i watched the video and u r wrong
      It uses both. And in my case... Sigmas work better. And in others people too... Maybe u should upgrade the firmware of ur sigma adapter... After last update... Sigma adapters work as good as native lenses. Give it a try to the new firmware ;)

    • @DuncanDimanche-sreview
      @DuncanDimanche-sreview  7 лет назад +1

      the problem with sigma lenses you cannot choose which AF system. The camera sometimes shoots with Contrast AF and sometimes it uses phase detection. So if you can select it with the new firmware then It's awesome and i'll update my review

      @GerardoGherman 7 лет назад +2

    Bonjour en français cela donne quoi ? J'ai un A7 III cette bague va me faire perdre quoi ? j'aurais voulu l'utiliser avec objos canon et avoir la mise au point sur l'oeil automatique , ce n'est pas possible ? merci pour la réponse

      Gaetan Habrand hello. Tu va perdre la mise au point en continue si tu shoot en rafale. Tu perds aussi la mise au point sur l’oeil. Le dernier adaptateur metabonne te donnera la mise au point sur l’oeil par contre avec les canon et ton a7iii. Mais il coute 300euros il me semble.

      Ken Hu Well that is what I have found with my sigma adapter... I went to B&H to talk to a Sigma salesman and he seemed very surprised of my « findings » and he said that it is not normal. So I will have to do a few more tests but I tried 3 sigma art lenses that are suppose to work with the mc-11.
