    I'm a Canon shooter and have been since the FD mount. I have a TREMENDOUS amount of EF glass including mostly L lenses and Sigma ART. I'm considering moving to Sony with the news that the RF mount won't be licensed to third party lens makers. I'm wondering if I can move my entire EF lens collection over to Sony and be happy with that. Just starting my research now.

  • @QuietOC
    @QuietOC 5 лет назад +6

    Sony only allows continuous focus at the "Lo" frame rate with adapted lenses. You are trying to use "Mid." That won't work. The only way around this Sony limitation is for an adapter is to fake a native lens (Yongnuo calls this M for Mixed mode, Metabones Advanced mode, etc).

    • @QuietOC

      @@learningcameras Sigma's current Global Vision lenses on the MC-11 also act like native lenses. The drawback of native lens emulation is that SLR lenses aren't designed to handle the contrast detect AF that is a big part of the native Sony Hybrid AF. Younguo has table of lenses that they claim work in the various modes of their adapter.

    • @QuietOC
      @QuietOC 5 лет назад +1

      Sony also doesn't support continuous video AF with adapted lenses. They do support AF-S via the shutter while in video mode, but that seems to have been dropped from the latest cameras when the AF System - Contrast Detect option for adapters was also dropped. These are all Sony limitations.

I am leaning more toward the a7 since i have a 5d mark lll already and want a high res camera for travel videos and what not; however, I have only canon glass and a sigma lens which is steering me away from the a7. • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  4 года назад +3

      Hey!!! So for video, the adapters are basically worthless with AF. On the photo side, they are good as long as you don't need continuous AF but if you do want continuous AF, even the best adapters don't compete with native lenses. If you are using Sony I would HIGHLY recommend going with native lenses. I'm personally going to end up with the SIII for my video work for 3 reasons, unlimited recording, dual recording for backup, and some overheating limits on the R5. I still might end up with an R5 for photo work but for video, it's great in some areas but weak for others. Have a few more videos on the R5 coming out this week!!!

      @sebastian_barr Год назад +1

      @@PhatsoJuggalo806 I literally JUST got the 7artisans from B&H! and it works like a charm. Native perforce as far as I can tell when compared to my native Sony lens on my A7siii. The next best thing about it is it's WAY quieter than the metabones (which made using a shotgun mic basically useless). Seriously great performance with new-ish canon and sigma lenses...except it didn't work consistantly with an OLD canon 50mm lens I had (it would sometimes cut the camera from rolling and switch to manual focus, like it disconnected, IF I panned to someting really close up and it couldn't find it). So my recommendation is to go for the 7artisans!

    • @sebastian_barr
      @sebastian_barr Год назад

      Just ordered the 7artisans adapter and it worked great for video autofocus - like, native lens great - for autofocus on all my newer canon and sigma lenses, but was inconsistent with an OLD canon lens. PLUS is was much quieter on all my lenses compared to the loud, constantly searching, inconsistent, and pricey metabones.

    Camera: Canon 5D mk ii & Sony A7ii
    Adpater: Viltrox EF Nex IV
    If i use canon FF sensor lens on canon FF camera and i shot on 17mm fl, the image output will be exactly 17mm wide.
    When i use canon ff lens on sony ff camera body with the adapter & i do the same shooting on 17mm, would i get same result? I mean i get exactly 17mm wide image, or it will be different like wider or narrower image because there's something called mount conversion factor?

      Hey! I have not had that in particular happen with mine but that seems to be typical behavior when an issue happens with lens communication. My Tamron 17-28mm F2.8 would do that on the Sony A7RIV and it was native so no adapter. I would say the solution would be to make sure all lenses and adapters are on the most current firmware because there have been a ton and if that still doesn't work, I'd look to Sigma for an adapter issue. Thanks!!!

    I don't understand why I have the Canon 70/200 f2.8 IS ll L and it doesn't work near that good with my mc11 on my A7r lll, as it does in your video, and yes I have updated the firmware on the adapter and camera. zoomed past around 135mm it sometimes won't even focus. and I'm just talking about for a stills doing a portrait of a non moving subject, to the point that I would not feel comfortable trying to use it for a portrait shoot on my A7r lll, I checked to see if the Canon lens had any firmware updates but I didn't see any. I still own my 5Dlll, but I am getting to the point where I am asking myself why because it is just sitting on a shelf. along with my other Canon mount glass. but my old Sigma and tamron glass work better than my Canon glass, I also have an issue with my Canon 40 pancake lens. so for me with the mc11 the Canon glass doesn't work as good as the non Canon glass.

    Please could anyone help me I'm looking for an adapter to use sigma 18-35mm f1.8 nikon fit that I want to use on Canon 80d but the thing is I want to have the capability to use the auto focus and also the usual face tracking mode and other types of tracking that the 80D has. I'm not sure if this adapter or other will give me that capability.
    Question about the chip if the adapter has it. The camera will recognise the lens while having the adapter already mounted, will the chip also allow the auto focus to be used?

      So you cannot use the Nikon version on the Canon 80D. But this version of the lens will work just fine on the 80D: bhpho.to/3H2CR8Q

      Hey! So do know focusing will mostly only work in single point. Continuous AF tracking will be spotty at best. This one is my favorite amzn.to/3jqRyJD

    As a hobbyist I regret buying a Sony camera, the lens prices are redicuous compared to Nikon and canon

      Really? There are so many 3rd party options that are way cheaper. I find Canon RF to be the most expensive and with no 3rd party options, it's even worse!

      Don't buy one lol. Use native Sony E mount lenses, there are so many available and you will have full autofocus so there is absolutely no reason to be using other lens mounts in 2023 unless you are using manual cinema lenses or manual vintage lenses

      Can't. Because mirrorless lenses sit closer to the sensor you can't adapt a mirrorless lens to a dslr
