Sony A7iii + Metabones EF to E Adapter Issues | Fixed!... Sort of.

- I haven't been able to use my Canon lenses with my new Sony A7iii body since I got. I tried everything from updating firmware to trying different lenses and bodies. Finally, I found something that worked.
Metabones Mark V Adapter EF to E: amzn.to/2Ka0EHF
To get complete control of the autofocus and EYE AF you have to put the adapter in PRO MODE. Camera must be on, after that, hold down the little button on the metabones while attaching the lens. You'll hear the motor move around then BOOM you've activated pro mode. This must be done every time a lens is attached to the metabones
Here are some tips I've found using the MB-V with Canon lenses on the Sony body. The IBIS switch needs to be on in order to have the Sony Steadyshot to work (found that out the hard way). If you find that your Canon lenses are hunting for focus, two things can be done. Turn off Canon IS on the lens. The second is to give a little manual turn of the focus ring then try auto focusing again and it usually grabs a target much quicker.

Just got my Mark lll firmware updated by metabones to Version 58 same as the mark V - problem is there is no way to turn off in body stabilization on the A7r lll with a OS lens mounted in this case a 24-105 canon -why because there is no adapter mounted switch. i am in touch with Metabones for a solution for us tripod users.
Is there any of this Metabones speedbooster that I could use on a Sony FS7 and use my Sony lenses with it?

Bro! AF only really works for photos with the mark V. Watch my actual review video on the metabones for more info.
its an aperture issue. when fully connected the sensor is adjusting to the settings, but when you actually take the photo the aperture is wide open. So, the camera will read that its at a different aperture then wide ope, but its actually wide open, letting in too much light.
I'm confused, in the video when you said the canon 16-35 didn't work with the adapter, it looks like you're referencing the MC-11, yet this video makes it sound like it was with the Metabones adapter. Am I mistaken? Thanks! (ps: I'm only into stills...no video, so if the mc-11 works with the 16-35 stills, then great! Also just ordered the A7iii and the MC-11...to use with all my canon L lenses. If you have any opinion on whether Metabones V is better for this, I'd love to know. thank again!!)

After going through all this IMHO neither, sell the Canon gear and buy Sony lenses. Yes I have G lenses but I even picked up a cheap, and on paper sounding terrible, Sony lens, the Sony 24 - 240 mm 3.5 - 5.6 for my a7 iii especially for a vacation walkabout lens and the results are stunning!
Is there any metabones adapter ef - e mount that doesn’t crop 4K video??? I’m using the Sony a7s ii with metabones ultra II 0.71 speedbooster (fifth generation)and I’m getting a vintage crop when shooting 4K...
The Speed booster part of the speed booster only works when going from Full-Frame lenses to APS-C sensor. So it will only work in APS-C mode
so what is mk4 good for ?
Still waiting on our A7III to come, bought a Zeiss 25 f2 to go with it. Using it for filmmaking. However, I come from canon (photographer) and have a lot of canon L glass....i'm wondering how the autofocusing is working with canon glass with metabones on the A7III - any insight?
It seemed pretty solid when I was using it yesterday but it was on a super wide angle lens so not much dof. Maybe I’ll do a follow up video testing how quick and accurate the new metabones is with my canon glass.

you just earned a subscriber :) ,i am new on this line and im trying to figure out if i buy sony lenses or keep buying canon lenses ? i got the 24-105 f4 canon, 50mm f1.8 and soon i will have the sony a7III for wedding videography.does the lense have auto focus tracking or i have to focus manually during the shooting ? i know it has a switch AF/MF but does on video mode keep on tracking objects like the eye detection or face ? thanks for the help
If you want continuous autofocus, I definitely recommend sticking with native Sony lenses with the a7iii. If you want to buy canon mount lenses, go with a canon mount Sigma lens and use the MC-11 for the best continuous autofocus.
so wait, the auto focus worked on the movie mode ??? because i bought the mc-11 for film making and the auto focus didn't worked but it did worked when i was taking photos same with the eye recognition

I have same problem with Metabone V on my Sony A7R111. Some lenses are fine the others used to be fine now aperture problem. Thanks for video.

Bad contacts alignment between Metabones IV and A7iii?
Very possible. As I said, that old metabones was fairly beat up when I got it so it could be a hardware issue. But it’s weird that it works with my a7s body. If I ever come across a friend with a metabones IV, I’ll have to test theirs on my a7iii as well.
So Metabones EF to E Mount Mk V works on the A7iii? Because i really need that continous auto focus
Watch my other adapter videos. The MC-11 is the way to go if you have sigma lenses. I couldn’t get c-af to work on either with Canon brand lenses though.

Metabones V (not sure about the beat up one you had) gives different functionality depending on how you attach it to your camera. Holding down the tiny button on the MB will switch it between different modes, you do this with the camera ON. There's a tiny colored LED that indicated what mode on the side of the MB V. I have this combo and am new to it but did learn this from the MB website. Seek more info on the actual differences there as it was a bit confusing. They need better documentation....

As someone who has a a7riii and the mk5... WHAT. The damn thing didn't come with a manual.. and no one at the shop told me to update the damn thing... Oh boy. All I want is to fly my ronin with a walk and talk... jeez. Any tips?

Really depends what you’re trying to shoot the Sony A7riii is geared more towards photography to where the A7iii is more for video.
The Sony A7rIV just came out and replaces the Sony A7Riii, if your shooting for like Instagram you don’t even need that high of a megapixel camera unless you’re putting in some type of commercial work. I’m happy with the A7iii and I don’t think there’s a Sony a7V out yet lol?
In all honesty it’s not about the gear you could have a $4,000 camera and what would good would it be if your shooting in auto right?
You mean the Metabones adapters? They are the same save V has improved internal flocking to control reflections apparently. I use the IV.

I updated the firmware in both the Metabones V and the Sony a7 iii two days ago (May 27, 2019). Now my Canon 100-400mm L is working in non-advanced mode (with the blue light on the adapter) flawlessly on the a7 iii. AF is now fast and accurate. Before the update, it was impossible to use. I am thrilled

We recently replaced a couple A7s for the A7iii and use the Metabones iii and iv. Haven’t noticed those issues and we use a lot of canon glass. We don’t have the 16-35 though...
It’s weird that it works on older cameras, but the a7iii does have new focusing system. Could be buggy on that lens.

So you've had a good experience with the Metabones IV + a7iii? I'm looking to upgrade from my a7s and really want to know if at the very least the ibis and aperture controls will work.
Yes, we returned the new Metabones adapter mark V because the our old III and IV’s worked fine with manual aperture and ibis etc.

Anyone have the issue of no internal stabilization while using this adapter? I tested a Sony lens and it works, so I know it's not my camera. I'm trying to keep my canon lenses.
The IBS works along with the lens IS for me. That with EF and EFS lenses / Metabones V/ Sony a7 iii and latest firmware updates.

Negative. I have a full review on this adapter and the Sigma Mc-11. I’d recommend checking those out for more info.

Is metabones coming out with an Sony E mount to Canon EF? I’m switching to Canon and I have almost every E mount Sony lens.

I own the metabones V and it did the exact same thing, it would also go to F9.9 out of nowhere when I used my 85mm 1.2 ii... I’ve been searching everywhere to see what’s the problem and I couldn’t find anything:( it’s strange because my Metabones IV works better... I wonder if the metabones company can fix it
Yeah man, such a weird little glitch! If you don’t mind manual focus with you canon lens, the mc-11 has been great since I picked it up.

Seemed pretty solid but I was using a 16mm lens at 5.6 so I didn't have much DoF. I'll release a full review on it next week probably in regards to filmmaking on this camera body with Canon lenses.

My Mark 4 Adapter worked fine in A7 III and A7SIII but after I installed Firmware Update in the Sony camera it stopped working...damn

@@AdventureRich I had the Firmware Update 2.0 on the Sony A7SIII, adapter didnt Work anymore. I tried it on the A7 III of someone and it worked. I sold the adapter and Canon lenses and invested in E-mount glass.

The metabones iv and v are meant to be identical in everything but materials. They have the same connections to the lens and firmware. It looks like your adapter was just broken

Yeah I’ve heard sigma lenses work great with that mc-11 but not any better than metabones with Canon stuff.

works great with both. even the Fotodiox works good and its super cheap
They have a site with lenses that are compatible. They work good with canon lenses.

the mc11 will not work with with the canon 70-200mark2 om sony a7iii when one tries to change the "focus point". any solutions welcome to. Leoanardofan@gmail.com please..im on a budget so need to know what adapter will make this problem go away
I own both metabones v and mc-11, the sigma is quieter and snappier on all of my canon l lenses!

Green Light Life I’ve had amazing results with the 70-200mm on the MC-11 and good results with the 50 1.4. That being said, the 50 froze my camera a couple times and I had to turn it on and off to reset. The 70-200 has been great. Also, apparently the Metabones V has been much better with the current cameras than the older models.
