    Hey Chris, have you acquired the newly released Sony a7iv (yet)?
    I'm wondering how well, if at all, the video (eye/face) AF works when using the Sony a7iv body with a Canon EF lens 🤔

    New to Sony with a decent amount of Canon glass. Idk I keep reading about adapter problems and used Sony mount Tamron and Sigma lenses are only a couple hundred more with none of the problems

    viltrox ef to e ii with the latest firmware worked well with canon lenses (70-200 2.8 is ii, 85 1.8, 16-35 f4) with 85% autofocus hit rate. On video it is amazing as it has continuous autofocus. It is a bit eery on sigma art prime lenses tho. And drains battery even when camera is off,

      Hi, Thanks for the info. I use this speed booster with old NEX5 and EF lenses in manual focus. Now firmware has been updated I figure I should upgrade camera :-).
      Which camera did you test it with? Would be any improvement between a6300 and a6400...? Is 70-200mm Image stabilization turning on?
      I was thinking about buying a Sigma art lens, you said focusing is eery, eye tracking is that bad? Wonder how it would be with your 85mm 1.8 or any sigma art at f1.4? figure I should better go for canon Mxx or "real" full frame Canon camera?

    What I really don't understand is why phase detect AF works only in the center, since AF points are on sensor, so it shouldn't matter which lens is mounted on camera. It's funny that camera uses 3x5 phase-detect AF points with this adapter (for photo, and none for video), while on native E-mount Sigma lenses it uses 4x4 (and this cripples AF system, especially for video, since you cannot focus&recompose during video recording).

    Should I still buy a Sony a7r ii if I’m not gonna buy any Sony lenses and I’m just gonna buy a cheap canon telephoto lens and a $60 adapter?

    I have had 2 Commlite adapters, at the end I would say you don't really save money here, you waste money. Just get the Sigma MC-11 if you want the Canon lenses to work for Photo and forget about video AF with any adapter, switch to e-mount glass for that

    I have the Commlite, and the Viltrox. Neither is really any good, and neither adapter works on my a9. Functionality for those two is very spotty on my a7rIII.
    The Metabones IV worked ok with the a7rIII, but it was spotty on my a9, so I returned that one.
    The Sigma MC-11 works perfectly on all of my Canon L glass, including the 100mm f/2.8 macro, the 135mm f/2, and the 17-40mm f/4. I'm so glad that I didn't have to replace those with Sony lenses because they are very expensive.

      Interesting. I haven't had any luck at all with the mc-11 and non sigma lenses. Lots of focus hunting and no Video af at all.

    • @chazcov08
      @chazcov08 6 лет назад

      It's really strange. I bought the Metabones specifically because so many reviews showed it working fine with the a9. Like I said, it was fine with my a7rIII using all of my faster glass.
      All of these adapters seem to hunt at smaller apertures or slower lenses. Wide open, and even at f/8, I haven't had any problems at all. Autofocus is pretty snappy with no hunting. Weird.

    Nice video. I have the Neewer NW-S-AF4 Emount-EF adapter. I tried a few Canon lenses with my A6000, and autofocus doesn't seem to work accurately, probably because the A6000 doesn't have phase detection.

    • @nightcoder5k
      @nightcoder5k 2 года назад

      @@WayLAN_Media I now have 3 adapters, Neewer, Viltrox, and Yongnuo. I'm using them on my Sony A7ii instead of the A6000. It appears that each adapter works better for some lenses but not others.

    My comlite worked with varying degrees of success when it was New , but all of a sudden stopped working. I sent a number of emails to them, but unfortunately got no response whatsoever.
    Nice video all the same though.

    On the lens that didn't autofocus did manual focus work where you could have the image magnified automatically when focusing by hand. Did you try manual focus with the other two ? At worst you it could still prove a small bit faster than button pressing to bring up a magnified view it is does work.

    will a dumb adaptor work with a canon 40 stm lens on a sony e ?

  • @michaelscaplis
    @michaelscaplis 6 лет назад

    Aha, and now compare it to the Sigma MC11, should work better. At least from what I've read. I use it for the Sigma 150-600 contemporary with Canon mount. May test it on the Canon nifty fifty if I ever come across a good copy.

      I used the 50mm with the mc-11 and it always missed focus by a bit but would still make the focus confirm noise

    Is there a possibility that you could try that adapter on a Sony A6000 ?? Many of us have that camera model and we would be interested to know how it behaves with that new focus option of the commlite adapter. I ask because I have a tokina 11-16 f2.8 canon mount and I would like to know what such an AF would be like. Greetings from Chile

    At 3:32 on that McLaren you had small boxes in centre for Autofocus
    And at 3:37 on your Dog you had big boxes as autofocus why is that?

      Continuous autofocus vs single shot autofocus.
