If you think about HOW Alexander works, and the means by which it controls space-time, then you get a hint to what exactly became of that dark future when they sent the crystal tower to The First in the past. To put it bluntly, it's a lifeless husk. The Tycoon consumed all of the aether on that version of etheirys to do what it did. They made the ultimate sacrifice to stop the rejoinings.
Even worse is that Black Rose was successfully deployed, so even when he left the timeline, there would be no way to recover the lost aether naturally because of how the bioweapon suppresses it to a standstill
This isn't true, it drew on the power of the crystal tower, which gains it's power through funneling energy from the thirteenth (void world) Black rose devastated the source leaving nothing to draw energy from, even if it did work that way.
@@Grimnoire The world was in ruins yeah, but it wasn't DEAD. It still endured, even if just barely. You need to remember that all of the aether stored in the tower would still be inadequate to properly feed even an artificial Alexander. The artificial enigma, The Tycoon would have needed as much aether as the real Alexander to time travel even as they teleport the ENTIRE tower at the same time to The First of the past. The tower still had massive stores of aether to spare, so it can only be surmised that such prodigious amounts of aether to perform this impossible feat would have been gathered from the post-8th Umbral Calamity Source itself, leaving the star a lifeless husk in the process.
@@VioletNightmare it's stated that they used the crystal tower as a source of power several times. Graha tia even uses it to sustain his body for hundreds of years.
@@VioletNightmare fun fact most people in the 8uc timeline were against the ironworks' plan and wanted to save the world they had rather than use the power of a god to undo the calamity. remember, the ironworks thought that this would erase their timeline, so they wanted to bring back the past at the expense of all who live now, just like the ascians, the warrior of light is their zodiark.
Alexander created by Garlond Ironworks, fighting us inside the Crystal Tower in a room that has Omega mounted on the wall. And this is the first level 80 dungeon post-story? What the hell are they gonna do to top this? I am almost terrified imagining what could be next.
Meanwhile, in Heroes Gauntlet: "Yeah, your multi-track blend of prior tracks is good for dancing... but is it good for FEELS?" The journal of Biggs III in the Eight Umbral Calamity timeline was good for feels though...
Endwalker spoilers I just realised that in that original timeline, the ascians will most likely manage to restore their world eventually, but the endsinger is still out there and there's nothing they can do about it.
@@crowdemon_archives Emet Selch even acknowledges that, regardless of whether the Ascians are successful in their goal or not, their methods wouldn't have gotten them as far as the original timeline's people would have and that's even if they knew the Endsinger was coming for them - again.
@@TiaCosm my memory on the lore exactly is fuzzy, but the only reason zodiark worked in the first place was because they fed half or 3/4ths of their people to it. that's not exactly sustainable long term
@@Sivrn-Val Biggs III "I know you like fighting Alexander Prime inside Alexander when it summons Alexander and crystal tower, so we built an Alexander in crystal tower based on the Alexander Prime that summoned Alexander inside Alexander.
Indeed. I am presently unclear as to whether this boss is helping facilitate what the tower and exarch did, or if this was just a research dead end that didn't pan out left in the tower. Either way, the Ironworks helped take down the original, and it really speaks to how hopeless and grim that their situation is that they resort to building their own version.
I absolutely lost my shit when this started playing, this whole dungeon was like a nostalgia bomb for people that've been around since the early days of XIV/ARR
When I first heard the theme during the boss cutscene, I lost my shit thinking no way they brought Alexander back. I lost it again with just how much fun the fight itself was. It is definitely my favorite this expansion for dungeon bosses. I also needed new pants by the end of it
I love how The Tycoon remix uses more instruments played by humans since it was created by humans unlike The regular Alexander bosses with The Locus that uses more stiff, non-conventional instruments
I wouldn't mind this boss becoming an extreme trial. Combining all the good stuff from all the big raids from previous expansions into one boss fight is epic.
It made me feel so proud of the boys at the Ironworks...the culmination of everything they learned from every Raid they were involved in with us. The inner workings of the Crystal Tower, Alexander's time travel and Omega's dimensional crossing powers, all that experience came together in this dungeon
@@SuguSugux After clearing Orbonne, we get a side cut to one of the Legati leading an expedition into Ridorana and recovering tech from there - and they seem particularly interested in Construct 8. Somehow I doubt it was because of its sweet dance moves.
Mhach and Ivalice seem like a simple mix considering they both revolve around sky pirates That and there's the whole "everything from the void is just people corrupted by dark/astral aspected auracite" Coil kind of deserves to stay a standalone story though
Given that Maker's Ruin always plays when we encounter a literally impossible to succeed scenario and we just... decide to succeed anyway, I imagine that it must have been playing when the Ironworks reverse engineered a god to break the flow of reality
I nearly cried when met this boss, because I started FFXIV when Alexander Raid launched at Korea(I’m KR user), and made my first clear with it. Several years passed but I remember the feelings and awes of Alexander. Thx Square Enix
I wish I'd taken the time to read all the research notes to understand if this entity is managing the Crystal Tower in its current functionality, or if it was just a discarded dead end research path taken by the Ironworks to try to achieve what the tower later did. Either way, it is super cool at doing a good job of "show, not tell" with respect to how bad the situation had gotten that Cid or others in the Ironworks would outright risk building their own version of something so dangerous, just to avert an even worse outcome. And that recorded message you get afterwards really takes it home. This was their last hope to try to save what they could after losing everything.
the notes explain that sunglasses!biggs's predecessor drew up the plans based on cid's data on alexander and what got salvaged from omega, but wanted to leave it up to the generation after him whether or not to build and fire it because it makes a huge mess on the way out, iirc
They didnt think this far ahead because the CT was supposed to poof out of existence. Putting it down here is a necessity, for many reasons. First, it isnt a viable means of going back, because the actual methods, calculations, etc was left behind on the post-8UC Source. Second, this knowledge is WAY too risky to let past. Third, it was going haywire already, hence why G’raha Tia needed it dead in the first place.
Thing is though, we do see the jump pads from Coil earlier in the dungeon. They don't monitor the coils 'cause they're probably smoking ruins by that point, and because Cid wasn't there like you said, but their influence is felt :D

This is one of the most fascinating stories in Shadowbringers. The fact that there's another timeline, completely fucked up and lost in spacetime is both crazy and sad.
Casting off your own timeline as a dead one to save a new timeline with a better future is an insane thing for sure. If only my WoL could reach across the rift to tell them they succeeded
@@louthinator That's not true. There's a side story on the Lodestone set after the Crystal Tower is sent to the First and the alternate timeline wasn't erased, but started rebuilding alongside Midgardsormr.
@@debleb166 those stories are usually considered speculative at best or "what if" scenarios. That timeline would be screwed anyway because the warrior of light wouldn't be there to destroy the endsinger, which means Hermes is going to destroy Zodiark with Zenos, everyone gets turned into blasphemies, every star dies, no life can be reborn due to the dynamis degrading the aether to dust, so it might as well be done.
@@louthinator How does that neccesarily mean it would happen? Not even Garleans were spared the effects of Black Rose so for all we know Zenos could have fallen to it, and the only reason Zenos went along with it was to get his fight with the WOL, a motiviation which he would not have in the other timeline. Plus Zodiark being destroyed relied on the Warrior being there to destroy him, Fandaniel couldn't have done it alone. It's probably inevitable that the final days will one day destroy the Eight Umbral Era timeline too, but much further in the future than in ours. Also, Emet-Selch and Elidibus who would still be alive and active in this timeline would absolutely not have let the sundered Fandaniel destroy Zodiark who is central to their plans to cause the Great Rejoining. And where does it say that the side-stories aren't canon? As far as I'm aware none of them actually contradict the canon.

@@beefytaquitos for all we know this is actually Cid's fail safe, the Crystal Tower is a giant Antennae if it detects that the world is no longer in danger, it's probably set to unleash monsters in the assumption that the WoL would respond to destroy the Time Travel engine to avoid it's misuse.
@@velvetbluez9823 that's actually kind of a genius idea, though if Biggs the 3rd was the 14th president of Garlond Ironworks, it was likely a very long time removed from Cid's original ideas.

Anyone got any idea what the "seven two three two three " lyrics mean ? I mean there are a bunch of other cryptic things I'm curious about (like what are the "twenty-two sectors tested" or stuff like that) but somehow I feel this one does hide something... is it some sort of code ?

Me: Leading up to this fight? More Iron Works logos?
Me: That's odd wait why are there Alexander mobs in here....
Hears Song, sees boss.
Me: CIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDDD WHAT DID YOU DO!!!
This was already explained in the story before.
Technically Cid just figured out the math for it. It was Biggs' grandkid and the Ironworks he was President of that built the damn thing.
And somehow, someway, I still believe it's all Ilberd's fault.
@@cooljoe500 They don't explain anything about Alexander though, the Exarch just mentions that the Ironworks figured out the ins and outs of the Tower in order to time travel through the rift.
@@AlterRaigo Guessing they studied Alexander and Omega's places after we finished the raids and they figured out how to time/dimension travel and build this sweet thing.
@@kaungsi5613 alexander's not mentioned in the instance -- but omega is. they studied it to figure out what was necessary to be able to safely traverse the rift.
the Alexander we know isn't a working machine, but a primal summoned by the Illuminati, based upon some cultural legend of a winged machine-god that could perfect the future and erase the sins of the past. Now i think we have some idea of where they got that idea from.

This isn't true, it drew on the power of the crystal tower, which gains it's power through funneling energy from the thirteenth (void world)
Black rose devastated the source leaving nothing to draw energy from, even if it did work that way.

It explains A LOT of how the E***** got to travel time
Oh shit. I didn't put that together.
That's a bad Cid! No making Pseudo Primals!
Me and my friend started screaming when we saw Alexander.
I absolutely lost my shit when this started playing, this whole dungeon was like a nostalgia bomb for people that've been around since the early days of XIV/ARR
Im surprised no one mentioned the background of this stage.
Bro, the twinning's main theme, then the boss "insatiable" rock remix, then this theme for the final boss. Twinning is an absolute banger
When I first heard the theme during the boss cutscene, I lost my shit thinking no way they brought Alexander back. I lost it again with just how much fun the fight itself was. It is definitely my favorite this expansion for dungeon bosses. I also needed new pants by the end of it
All the time freeze stuff was insanely cool. This is might be my favorite dungeon boss in the entire game.
Is that... is that a freaking ARTIFICIAL ALEXANDER!?
it's actually Ironworks Alexander + Ironworks Omega
it answers some time travel questions that the game throws at ya.
WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY
Yeah. Im honestly impressed Cid's disciples were able to craft this thing
@@dragonfable66 but all in all, what the heck Biggs?!
I mean original Alexander is going to become an Ultimate Raid, can't wait to see the remixes and fights that come out of that lol.
Combining three Raids into one dungeon, the absolute madmen. If they combine Bahamut, Mhach, and Ivalice, I'm gonna lose it.
It made me feel so proud of the boys at the Ironworks...the culmination of everything they learned from every Raid they were involved in with us. The inner workings of the Crystal Tower, Alexander's time travel and Omega's dimensional crossing powers, all that experience came together in this dungeon

That and there's the whole "everything from the void is just people corrupted by dark/astral aspected auracite"
Coil kind of deserves to stay a standalone story though
This is honestly one of my favorite dungeons in the entire game. They really topped themselves with this and Amarout.
Thx Square Enix
i love seeing people's first reactions to this boss it's always baffled amazement
Me walking to the Tycoon, hearing Locus from Alexander: Ah shit, here we go again.
This was their last hope to try to save what they could after losing everything.
the notes explain that sunglasses!biggs's predecessor drew up the plans based on cid's data on alexander and what got salvaged from omega, but wanted to leave it up to the generation after him whether or not to build and fire it because it makes a huge mess on the way out, iirc
yeah hope it not bad that we smashed it to pieces.
@@Gamemaster-64 I'm guessing it just means that the Crystal Tower now can't go back to the Alternate-timeline it came from.
I'm glad they used my favorite Alexander theme for...Alexandroid.
If you look in the background, it shows all the 8 man raids you been on minus the Coil; probably because Cid wasn't a part of that one.
Thing is though, we do see the jump pads from Coil earlier in the dungeon. They don't monitor the coils 'cause they're probably smoking ruins by that point, and because Cid wasn't there like you said, but their influence is felt :D
@@darkrai6543 the jump pads were probably always in the tower, since the tower and dalamud are both allegan

@@charliemcmillan4561 you wouldn't have to, as the Exarch said, when we saved our timeline the doomed one was erased, it never happened.
