@@ItaChu787pr Shorter than Stormblood I feel. Or not because Stormblood felt really dragged down in several parts while so far Shadowbringers has a tighter and more well-paced narrative. I'm actually giddy for future story chapters too unlike my time with Stormblood.
"Damn you... *DAMN YOU AAALLLL!!!"* The sheer rage as his plans fall apart is such a satisfying thing to hear... "It ends this day! One way or another, this *ends!"*
When those seven pillars of light appeared, surrounding the MC, I started counting for some reason. "Hold on... 1, 2, 3... 7? And then there's me... HOLY SHIT!!" The realization, for me, was the best part.
It was his people, or ours. I never thought I'd say this, but... Emet-Selch was no more a villain than we were. He was their champion, and he died their hero.
The cutscene before this fight was absolutely the best they have done yet, no contest. The way the WoL just stands there with that resolved stare and then you drop the line "It ends here today.. One way or another, it ends.."

No name on the title and a generic thumbnail, what an absolute lad, thank you. Also I've never been more blown away by anything in this game ever. I damn near cried from how awesome it was alone!
@@Hedge_Knight_Gaming it would have been possible to figure it out, the only person that could be central enough to the story and have a mysterious identity is Emet-Selch. So anyone beyond the level 74 story would be able to figure it out.
This expansion was fucking epic, especially after you beat Innocence, everything just gets so much more epic, and the whole segment leading up to this fight was of particular amazingness.
I *did* cry when Tomorrow and Tomorrow kicked in. Also at the end of the Healer role quest. Of the 4, that one was by far the most emotionally charged.
This is one of the first songs I heard from the game. It's a bit of a shame, because I got massively spoiled without realizing until after the fact, but also fortunate because it's one of the things that finally got me to give FFXIV a shot. Without context I just assumed, "Oh, it's some dark god trying to kill you for some arguably justified but stupid reason as dark gods tend to do". Man, I'm glad it was so much more than that. Hearing Invincible for the first time just gave the impression of being an epic and climactic song for a final boss, but the moment I heard it myself ingame, my first thought was that it sounds like the strings are crying out in desperation. The story of this expansion really did turn out to be as much of a masterpiece as people hyped it up to be.
I had bro tears pretty much since Ardbert appeared before us. Guy went from jaded edgelord to finding a chance at redemption and grabbing it with both hands.
@@vincentclark5853 And that cinematography in the ending cinematic, where it pans to him walking back to his friends with his axe clean... my friend found his redemption - now the guilt of causing the Flood is cleansed, and he can meet them with head held high. Him handing me the axe gave me tears, him finding his party at the end sent me bawling.
It's a great "full circle" technique when you bring a story back to the beginning, with new purpose, drive, and POWER to fulfill its hopes and dreams realized.
It’s funny and heartbreaking how in Endwalker he completely disapproved our portrayal of him and his actions of recreating Amaurot which he deemed “an insult to their memory”. But we also learn in one of his dialogues in Elpis, he says he has not felt, let alone understood the grief of putting down a creation or a colleague returning to the stars (aka passing on) that Hermes felt. But he would one day understand and deeply feel this pain at an intense level after losing everyone after the sundering. So heavy a loss that it ultimately changed his character and made him more openly sentimental. And funnily enough, causing him to end up doing what he said he would not. Pain really changes people
I told my FC that “Scale and Steel/The Worm’s Tail” (Shinryu’s Theme) was Sokken’s lightning in a bottle. There’s no way he could capture it twice. Boy, was I wrong hearing this when getting to Emet Selch/Hades. Sokken did it again. A master of the craft-the rightful torch bearer for Nobuo Uematsu.
@@TheVinylBroadcaster Disagree. Uematsu shackled himself too much for me to think he is Sokkens equal. Uematsus music rose to heaven, and Sokkens comes from there.
Those feels when they break the chains. This fight was something next level the first time you walk in blind to what's coming. Soken crafted a masterpiece of a soundtrack for Shadowbringers and said soundtrack cannot be released soon enough. Truly masterful work. Top to bottom this expansion was an incredible experience.
I'd have to say this expansion beats Heavensward for me story-wise. This finale was such a huge payout and still gives me goosebumps thinking about it.
It is amazing to me how a villain in a game can be so well written that one can come to love him so much that just watching this fight from the outside makes me cry. When you're fighting him yourself, you're too busy trying to survive the encounter that you can't think about it, but I imagine my WoL being just as choked up as I am about having to kill him after it was over. Hades is equal parts tragic and beautiful, villain and hero, and I don't know how they will ever top that. I can't wait to see it when they do.
Getting to this fight as a Gunbreaker was one of the best moments I've ever had in an MMO thanks to the party I was given. Said I was new to it, and the other tank told me "The honor of tanking him is yours". This man yielded main tank to me just so I could get the full experience out of it. Bless him, and bless that party for giving me five commends.
As a tank myself, if I've done a fight and a new tank is my partner, the main tank role is theirs. I'll back them up if they need it. Glad you had such a good experience! Pass that along when you have a first timer!
Knowing everything about this expansion, it just surprises me that there are people in my free company skipping EVERY cutscene despite the rest of us telling them how amazing the story's been this time around. I wouldn't trade the cutscene prior to this boss for anything in the world.
Yeah, and realizing that this fight was Emet Selch vs the being known as the WoL with all of the fragments of that soul brought together. It was hype as fuck.

They can do whatever they want because at the end of the day, they bought the game along with its expansions and pays for sub, which supports the game so I don’t see a problem.
I don't know why, but the part where the choir comes in singing "Home! Riding Home!" makes me almost tear up. It just hits this visceral feeling of "Hey, we're stuck in the most unwinnable situation imaginable, but we're gonna win regardless," and I think that's beautiful. It's like the game is staring at you and saying, "You've got this, man. Don't give up."

Add in the City of the Ancients (even if the city itself didnt look like 7's CotA) and I'm convinced that the ancient race is a reference to the cetra. An ancient race with a deep connection to the planet that was wiped out by a calamity. Seems to fit the bill.
I am assuming it is just an instant wipe 1-shot mechanic? I didn't get to see the cast, but I am hoping, at least for EX, that it will cause every status ailment and just kill the party slowly.
No idea why people skip cutscenes and then ask what’s going on in the story. If your rushing to the end for savage raid purposes I can understand but we only have 2 easy extreme fights so far. Take your time and watch the cutscenes the story is AMAZING. It’s always using seeing people ask what’s happening or why we are fighting someone when literally the cutscene before the fight shows what’s happening lol.

When you think that Yotsuyu is already tragic enough and no one will be able to top her, this f*cking game pulled Emet-Selch on us. What will the next expansion pulled on us now?
Yotsuyu and to some extent, Fordola, I felt sorry for, Emet-Selch while I sympathized to some extent I still enjoyed kicking his ass. Hard to feel sorry for a genocidal psychopath, tempered by a construct that requires destruction and sacrifice for no real chance for restoration. The hell with the Ascians. However yes I do understand the grey morality at play here and appreciate the plight of the Ascians and how the other races may not seem as good as they try to portray themselves, but all that garbage from Emet about how none of them would lift a finger to save their world is just his arrogance and Zodiark brainwashing talking.
Here's a theory that was brought up. What if every person with the Echo was actually a fragmented individual from the Ascian civilization? They summoned Hydaelyn and are bound to her - being reincarnated over and over again as her champions.
That's a fuggin high quality theory right there.... Also would explain why there are no whole servants of hydalen as they would have all embraced the separation willingly as a part of her will.
I don't think they necessarily have to be the ones that summoned Hydaelyn. I am almost convinced that this is true and everyone in possession of The Echo has a shattered Ascian soul. Further even, it is mentioned in the story how the Ascians had a council of 14 individuals which were extremely intelligent or talented and they dealt with problems the Ascian civilization was facing, such as the approaching Final Days. It is said that in the light of the approaching catastrophe, the 14th of them was to be expelled from their ranks and that this was unprecedented. I think that 14th individual had to leave because they were completely against the summoning of Zodiark, summoned Hydaelyn as an answer and that our character, the Warrior of Light, is in fact a shard of that 14th council member.
Well when Ardbert’s soul merged with ours before the fight, Emet-Selch *saw* an Ancient/Ascian in us because our soul had grown one step closer to being whole. The color of our soul was also seemingly someone he recognized.
@@verum7360 It is not said but quite obvious : The Ascian he saw was the soul of his dear friend we meet right before meeting with Emet. As it is said, after half of the Ascians sacrificed to summon Zodiark, the planet was left to die, half of the remaining ascians sacrifice themself to summon Hydaelin in order to restore life & balance to the universe, Emet's friend being one siding with the Hydaelin plan. All along the travel the hero made, you can see the nostalgia on Emet's face when he thought about his people & furthermore when he looked at you. He tried to convince you, his former friend to join his side.
That would make a lot of sense! Sadly that means that Emet's good friend whose shade is self aware in the ruins of Aumaurot is also one of the dissidents who summoned Hydaelyn... And now I feel even sadder for the poor Ascian.
The escalation that brings here it's one of the most powerful and sad in whole Final Fantasy history. I deeply love Final Fantasy XIV, I suggest to play it, it's simply one of the best Final Fantasy ever created.
When this track kicked in during the cutscene sequence unlocking this trial, it was everything I hoped. I really wanted this track to not be used at all until the end and reserved for a special moment. This Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny perfectly rewarded all the buildup.
I know this isn't necessarily the place to throw requests since I assume there are FAR too many comments, but I hope Ardbert's Theme(?), Sad Praetorium(?), whatever you want to call the slow sad version of the ARR main them... I hope that goes up sometime.
Two people carrying forward the hopes and dreams of those who came before. One trying to restore those they had lost, and the other trying to save those they yet still could.
It's just amazing how through ARR to Stormblood, we hated every Ascian with a passion. Then in Shadowbringers we learn the truth. We learn their goal. We see Emet and many of us love him or at the very least, pity and understand him. He becomes more than just an ancient being, he's a spirit we were once linked to. Suddenly, looking back, the Ascians no longer feel like "pure evil or chaos". Their motives are very relatable. They want their world back, their friends back, their loved ones back...they want their way of life back. But because their goal means the destruction of our world, our friends, our loved ones, our way of life...we have to stop them. It's either us or them. But in the end, the victor becomes the hero, the loser the villain. We are each others' truest villain. It'll be amazing to see what story line they come up with to follow the end of the Hydalin/Zodiark story. It has been an amazing ride.
I can never get over how well Soken does this stuff. My favorite part, 12:55 is a great example of the music lining up so well with what's going on. The final push for both you and Emet, the desperation you both have to save the ones you care about pitted against each other. The choir makes me imagine the voices of the Ascians crying out in the face of the Oblivion, fueling Emet's determination to stop you. Come to think of it, it's probably why that dps push is as long as it is, to grab one of the peaks of the OST in that moment. The team did such a great job on this expansion.

Shadowbringers was honestly the best Final Fantasy story I've ever had the pleasure of playing. 5.1 onwards has some massive expectations to live up to now.
I absolutely loved this fight. Not only because it was decently challenging and fun, but because the group I was with were all friendly, had not done it before, were patient and eager to learn. That's perhaps the part of the fight that made it memorable to me-the fact that people had fun. EVERYONE in the chat going "WTF." and screaming and running all over the place, myself included. That-combined with the music ringing in all our ears- made the fight a lot more hectic than it probably was. It was amazing. Everyone loved it. Until you realize the past self (before he split himself into 14 shards to guard each reflection) was Hadies friend who quit the conclave of the 14 and opposed him by summoning the Hydalin to bind Zodiarc. Hence why when you rejoined with Albert, Hadies was all "not you, that's impossible".
Right? At first it seemed epic... but thinking on it I do feel for them. They are evil, but it's an evil you can understand but not side with
Indeed, I absolutely loved the relatable character depth given to the antagonist here.
Yes. What the Ascians did was indeed despicable... but after all this... I cant help but feel sorry for them. You know you have to stop en but at the same time.......
When Selch looks at you and realizes you're his fragmented friend it hit a heartstring.
@Khaye Ayubann His fragmented friend said he was his fragmented friend in the MSQ.
@Khaye Ayubann his "new old friend" meaning that we more than likely were friends with Hythlodaeus too. There's a lot of speculation that the one who left the 14 and objected to summoning Zodiark was you and even cooler and crazier theories that Unukalhai is one of your fragments, which is why he has the echo and why Elidibus saved him.
@@CMY_Kat I took that phrase as another nod to his self-awareness and the fact that he exists in the past and us in his future that he isn't a part of.
@@CMY_Kat didn't Unukalhai said he was the warrior of light in his own world but was too young to save the world and let it fall into the void. from those fact its not that crazy of a theory but its cool nonetheless.

When those seven pillars of light appeared, surrounding the MC, I started counting for some reason.
"Hold on... 1, 2, 3... 7? And then there's me... HOLY SHIT!!"

Shadowbringers is def one of those things that makes you grateful you're alive to play it.
Culann Steele is the true villain of ShB for skipping cutscenes...
Dude when he handed me the Great Axe and this music started I had major bro tears
I had bro tears pretty much since Ardbert appeared before us. Guy went from jaded edgelord to finding a chance at redemption and grabbing it with both hands.

Cannot agree more.
Both are incredible composers. Geniuses in their own right.
@@TheVinylBroadcaster Disagree. Uematsu shackled himself too much for me to think he is Sokkens equal. Uematsus music rose to heaven, and Sokkens comes from there.

Yep, best story by far. For once the Warrior of Light is not just a primal-slaying side-character standing around and doing nothing.

When you think that Yotsuyu is already tragic enough and no one will be able to top her, this f*cking game pulled Emet-Selch on us. What will the next expansion pulled on us now?
Probably something related to the followers of hydaelyn
Here from the future; it gets sadder, but it gets happier :)
You just know they’re gonna expand on Zenos’ past, why he became the way he is, etc and make us kinda like him.
The timing when the “home” hook comes in lines up so well
Love that drop at 2:54, which syncs up with the point in the cutscene in which Emet decides to stop playing around and reveals himself as Hades.
The combination of Shadowsbringers and Thunderer (the typical Ascian battle theme) for phase 2 is incredible.
"DAMN YOU! DAMN YOUR WRETCHED BLESSING!"
NO HOLDING BACK AT THAT POINT!
1st Phase - Rock music!
2nd Phase: Super epic orchaestral/choir music!
Serioulsy, FFXIV's OST is so good! ;)
Soken indeed is a truly mastermind... after Stormblood I thought "ok this will be tough" and boy was I wrong...
"One way or another, it ends this day"
The timing of the song during the ATE event as the camera spins around the pillars of light...chills and goosebumps!

We fall
We fall
We fall
We fall unto the end
落ちる
落ちる
落ちる
終わりへと落ちる
One world's end
ある世界の終末
Our world's end
我が世界の終末
Our end
我らの終末
We won't end
――終わることなどない
I am shadow, I am the light
――私は闇であり、光である
Yeeeess!
Light brings warmth
Shadow comfort
But in excess both are bane
Warrior of Light
Warrior of Darkness
Become what thou must
To defend the balance of this star
Ray Peterson is this for second phase?
@@corxiiifelinike2643 No, this is something I thought up after watching the video a few times. There's someone else in the comments who provided the full lyrics for phase one though. 😂
Edit: His / her name is Fredy Tjhin and has a Diddy Kong Icon with a blue cap.
This dude Soken outdid himself again wtf and it still amaze me that this expansion dethrone HW easily.
monoside07 at this point sokens just showing off xD
at 2:20 when the Shadowbringers theme kicks in. Gives me chills.
@@Chihiro-Kikuchi He got every right to boast lol
@@matthewshimabuku Felt so many emotions there, made the boss fight 10x more intense !
And he casually throws in a 10/8 in the Lakeland day theme. Just like that.
Finding out that Ardbert was really a piece of our characters shattered soul and him rejoining with WoL and slowly rising for Hades to have a vision of his complete form once more got me hype as fuck. I screamed LET'S FUCKIN GO. Best xpac by far thus far. I don't know how they'll top it. I hope we learn more about the complete version of the WoL one day, like his name and motives.
That cutscene before this fight? The bit of the music at 2:03?
Yeah, when I witnessed that cutscene, that bit of the music started *_IN PERFECT SYNC_* with the beams of light coming down when the Exarch summons the other Warriors of Light.
... I needed a moment after that cutscene... that got too intense for me. :'D
1st part is literally the best track in the game, beating Knights of the Round!
lol cant be compared to phase 2 choir :D
Phase 2 is perfect
Choirs alright, but really the first phase brings it home.
I felt the shadowbringers theme was getting a bit over used by this point. Made me appreciate the 2nd half better
@@YUXKE Uh, it hasn't even been used once in game until the last fight.
I've never had my mind so blown by anything, honestly. This whole storyline, this fight, this music. Thank you SE for delivering on a spectacular storyline and everything that added up to this!!!!!!!
Farming this EX fight, “BEHOLD A SORCERER OF ELD” was definitely my favorite line
Fight insane
Music insane
Boss insane
Fucking great end of the expansion
You mean start!
This is just the beginning, and tbh I can't wait to see what they got in store for the following patches
@@gabgab5008 Yeah it is! Same, already hyped to continue MSQ

Still came here to cry again
A true Final Fantasy Story ending BOSS with multiples forms
Best mmo ever. This expansion brought tears of joy and sadness at the same time. What can I say I am in love being a gunbreaker makes me feel o.p. the community is nice and friendly. I think we can bury world of warcraft now.
Happy to have you come over to our side. The age of WoW is over!
yeah, uh... say that again in august when classic launches.
@@Cptraktorn wow is over there Is no way I am going back at the moment shadowbringers is the best story rpg mmo I have ever played love the community the game system all of it is worth my money.
@@ashbringer5999 I'm not going to say ShB wasnt the best story in an mmo, I damn near cried myself.
But still they're masively different and offer different endgames.
Shoutout to the WoL on 5:30 who skipped most cutscenes and is now wildly bemused by what is going on
Just watching this video makes me want to do this fight again, the music was great, the fight was great, just everything about Shadowbringers is really well done.
Can't wait for the extreme version
No ex I think
@@AhmadHassan-eb2pl They always make an extreme of the final boss. They did it for Ultima, Thordan, and Shinryu :3 so something to look forward to :D

@@AhmadHassan-eb2pl in patch 5.1
why did i cry like a baby at the end of this dungeon? .I was an emotional mess .cant wait to see where it goes from here
Took me a while , but I finally realized that the second phase theme is just an orchestral mashup of Tomorrow and Tomorrow and the first phase's theme
I think this is the first trial where fighting as a 8 man party is canon for the story
and it not get your friends we never get to talk to.
They usually tend to cast their plans as you "leading a group of elite adventurers".
When you fight Yojimbo in trial version he acknowledges that he didn't expect to fight you, let alone 8 of you, so that means Hades and Yojimbo only know there is actually 8
susanoo normal is passed off as a bunch of your friends who you had the foresight to bring along to the journey because "no single warrior, no matter how blessed or powerful, could ever hope to slay a primal on their own, despite what some wandering minstrels would have you believe."
the very first gilgamesh fight was also 8-man canon
" Take it we fight as one "
"Our tragedy must never again come to pass".
That sentence alone is hint enough the Ascians aren't fully aware of the nature of their god. Emet Selch truly believed that bringing Zodiark forth once again would save the star. However, it is precisely because of that we're all going to Endwalker now - the tragedy spoken of is happening yet again. One begs the question they're tempered, even.
This was hands down the best fight I have done so far. Absolutely a masterpiece and when it leaves me shaking. It was damn good. Soken, awesome music
One year+ later and ShB has NOT disappointed
The poor lad that skipped cutscenes in party chat... had no clue what was happening LOL

Loved the nod to FFX and Auron. "This is OUR story."
1 year later and this song is still a banger, and this fight is still bae
This trial was so intence! It is by far my most favorite one do date! The music and action together made it incredible! That and seeing my best friends summoned as warriors of light together from other worlds made it the best conclusion to any mmo we have played together!
I will forever say this was the best way for your party to show up and help you.
This is the one duty where it makes more sense lorewise to match up with randos than going in with a preformed party.
@@Bladehound83 I completely agree. That is also why I loved the trust system because it feels like you are actually doing the story with the party and such.
"Let expanse contract. Eon become instant. Champions from beyond the rift *heed my call!* "
Everything about this expansion was 10/10 for me.
Phase 2 of this track is the reason i returned back to ff14 since 2019. I wanted to know who's that villain this track belongs to so much that i started my journey in July, and finished it in August.
Can't wait to spend all December playing Endwalker.
Treat every cutscene as if its crucial to overall story and if you miss even one, you may be completely lost as to what the hell the story actually is like a Culann Steele. Dont be a Culann Steele.
Finally got around to finishing Shadowbringers. What a ride. Don't know how they'll top this. That active time maneuver where everyone breaks free was pretty dope too.
"I challenge you, Emet-Selch"
Chills
"But come! Let us cast aside titles and pretense, and reveal our true faces to one another! I am Hades, he who shall awaken our brethren from their dark slumber!"
Unlike other ShB bosses, Hades' intro does not carry a title blurb. He is no longer Emet-Selch of the Convocation of Fourteen, but Hades.
Words can't describe how epic and fitting the theme song was for this final battle. The buildup for the story was good, and quite possibly the best expansion in ffxiv so far.
The best Vilains are historically the ones who truly believe THEY are the ones that are right...Emet-Selch, Hades, whatever you want to call yourself, you definitely left a lasting impression my good sir. Good night!
It ends _this_ day. One way or another..
*_it ends._*
"Wh-What!? You've defeated Ozma!?"
"I've come too far to retreat."
"Onward!"
I always get that line. Ozma will always fall before I go to Memoria (outside my Excalibur II runs)
I don't know why but it always gives me chills to hear the main theme of a game during the final fight. Shadowbringers was no exception
I can never get enough of this boss's Active Time Maneuver. And you timed it so perfectly with the music.
Gives me an eye and eargasm everytime.
This expansion is epic. Soo good. I'm just curious here. We do we go from this? Just wow.
Defeating the empire and possibly preparing to fight the enemy that brought destruction to the ascian homeworld
Thavnair, sharlayan, other shards, garlemald, primals, us being turned on for becoming too strong
For Now? Eden.
After that? Probably the "New WoLs" Elidibus has planned for us.
After THAT? The Empire and Zenos.
Well, Zenos just learned that Zodiark was a primal, and you know what Zenos does with primals...
@@GoldenMan-Gaming oh no
Poor Culann Stelle. He skipped all the cutscene and missed out on one of the best Final Fantasy story ever...
Who's Culann Stelle ?
@@saeria7828 one of his teammate in the video. He complains about not having any idea what is going on in the story because he skipped all the cutscene
@@doremonhg thank. Indeed poor man soul.
Super sad for the person. But I guess he/she can always watch it from the Inn or from summary videos on RUclips.
But that's not the same as playing it. And he's missing all those non cutscene dialogues.
Shadowbringers was honestly the best Final Fantasy story I've ever had the pleasure of playing. 5.1 onwards has some massive expectations to live up to now.
@Santi R SB wasn't a flunk. It was honestly pretty good for the most part. It just wasn't on the same level as HW
I imagine the choir being the voices of the Ascians singing during the battle so that the WoLs can actually hear it.
Anyone notice the filthy cutscene skipper in the chat?
I absolutely loved this fight. Not only because it was decently challenging and fun, but because the group I was with were all friendly, had not done it before, were patient and eager to learn.
That's perhaps the part of the fight that made it memorable to me-the fact that people had fun. EVERYONE in the chat going "WTF." and screaming and running all over the place, myself included. That-combined with the music ringing in all our ears- made the fight a lot more hectic than it probably was. It was amazing. Everyone loved it. We cheered as if we had just downed an Extreme Trial, that's how much our adrenaline pumped by the time Hades went down.
It was made so much better for me personally because this was the first expansion I have played at launch and had the pleasure of experiencing completely and utterly blind. I didn't play FFXIV until late Stormblood, just a few weeks before Shadowbringers was announced, so this is a great memory to me and I will always treasure it as one of my personal favorite moments in all of gaming.
Me towards ascians in ARR: i fucking hate these guys
Me towards ascians in Shadowbriger and Endwalker: *inconsolable sobbing*
That one dude in chat who skipped all the cutscenes - like WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO YOURSELF THE FIRST TIME YOU"RE PLAYING THROUGH THE STORY?
If you were there for Stormblood, you were scarred for Shadowbringers
I skipped so as to not be fucked for a whole week again to Raubahn ex 2: Zodiark bogaloo (if it were to happen, but ShB was queue simulator instead of 90k duty finder dead simulator. Curious to see how bad DT release will be)
