I always tell people, Vauthry missed his calling in life. After fleeing Eulmore he put together his little sanctum on Mt. Gulg in, what.... a week? And you may or may not like his aesthetic, but by God the man had a stylistic vision and he stuck with it. You gotta admire his resolve in a way. Once the light surges and he transforms, he sees it all as a trial *HE* must undertake, and then accepts it head on.
I really like the bait and switch they hit you with when it comes to Vauthry's transformation and how much it makes sense. When it happens to Tessleen, she becomes a malformed monster with tears streaking down her face, like she is in horror of what she has become. But Vauthry, who in this world is "Innocence," becomes beautiful because by the First's current paradigm, he is "free of sin." The one who ran a hospice for those infected by the light is a beast, while the one who imprisoned people and turned them into literal food is the angel.
I love the symbolism in the name innocence because vauthry IS innocent he was turned into a monster before he was ever born corrupted before he ever had a chance
He played The Lord of Bones on Game of Thrones. Other fun fact: Gaius Baelsar is voiced by the actor who played Roose Bolton. Ardbert by the actor who played Gendry.
In general the voice acting in Shb has been phenomenal, by everyone. But new characters like Vauthry stand out especially. The VA nails this character so damn well.
What i really appreciate is how his voice ACTUALLY CHANGES when he transforms, going from the shrieky bellowing and archetypal fat aristocrat sound to the smooth, passionate voice you expect from something that looks like his warden form does
Funny part is... in the Slums, there's a Vieira (Viis in their case) who said she had a dream that she seen Vauthry with golden locks in a gaudy golden castle. Something along those lines.
First time I entered the trial and saw Innocence name on Vauthry. I was like "THIS is Innocence?" Turns out that was after he fully turned into a Lightwarden.
Yeah, he was a lot like the typical depiction of cherubs; chubby, tiny wings, and the like. He was an egg, in a sense. And [SPOILERS COMING BELOW] Vauthry is innocent in a way. His sheer ignorance of the truth of things, and being raised as a god by his family due to meddling, he's innocent of the knowledge his own wrongdoing because he thinks he's doing the right thing. I've seen this take too many times, and it's pretty wrong. Let's not forget how he murdered tons of peasants just so he could keep people enthralled to him. At several points, people try to appeal to his morality, and he's shown to have none. He does things like make people jump off of balconies and mutilate themselves in front of live audiences for committing little to no crime. Stormblood he wasn't allowed to shine as it was all just Eastern Themed tracks or like War Anthems. Not to say Stormblood was bad, there were a few standout tracks like the Burn, but for the most part it was probably the weakest of the OSTs imo due to the theme. With Shadowbringers on the other hand it's clear he was given free reign to do whatever he wants and it shows and the results are glorious.
@@smward87 I disagree completely. Stormblood had a ton of incredible tracks and some of Soken's previously best experimentation. Heavensward's OST was comparatively dull. There are some major standouts but by and large the music was worse than Stormblood's. Compare Ominous Prognosticks to Triumph. The only area where Heavensward wins is in the 8 man OST where Soken could make weird shit with Alexander but was kind of bound by remixes in Omega.
Seeing this expansion and fights like this one really makes me wonder what Yoshi P could do if given the reigns of a single-player FF game. I haven't had this much fun with any FF for many, many years.

Thordan VII was above Nidhogg,in fact,Innocence it's like the Thordan from The First. (Thordan still way above in terms of power tho,he had the Warring Triad,Nidhogg eyes and the power of a Primal with a millenia of prayers...)
@@NavytroyXIV i'll have to disagree on the point that Thordan is more powerful. The light aspected aether each warden carries is too great for any single being to hold onto. Titania, the king of the fae folk did manage to take a light warden down but became a more powerful light warden herself. Not to mention the everlasting light giving sin eaters their strength and the fact that Innocence is the strongest Light Warden/Sin Eater. Even if Thordan beat Innocence...Thordan would just become the new Innocence in his place
This is so different in tone from anything in Stormblood and I'm all for that. I liked the music from Stormblood, but this is just way more fitting tonally for a boss from this expansion.
I showed this to my mom to share the music with her. She had no context to who Vaulthry was, but she was immediately wary of him. She said "If he has that gait with all this weight he must be one strong mother fucker."
I dropped my jaw when I saw that the throne was there only to be the areola in Innocence head like a saint. The environment, the music, the boss itself and the cinematic decisions of this trial were incredibly amazing
There are two reasons I queue up for the duty intentionally to this day: 1. To hear the piano player going mental 2. To see first timers' reactions to the transformation 😂
For any ff8 fans. If u listen carefully the choir. Its the ultemecia boss theme mixed in to this beautifulness that is this BGM. Also the guy playing the piano went hard XD im going for this mount
No it's not, but I do think Soken took inspiration from FF8 for the soundtrack, since this is the "FF8 expansion" in general. The beginning of the standard boss theme is reminiscent of the start of FF8's battle theme.
Can we appreciate for a moment the fact that the transformation is fucking awesome, that ShB REALLY delivers the Duality/Morality-Questing System and that many of the comments are just extremely funny and good? :D
So this is the song from the start of the Launch Trailer. Those inception-style trumpets really helped the beginning. Very nice boss fight, very good music. Would relive it all over again. I dare say this is a better expansion than even Heavensward!
When the music suddenly changes at 6:00, it signifies a moment of tension and build up to the ultimate attack from Innocence while your team rushes to beat the last add. Then when the attack happens the music reaches its peak. The circling of the golden swords as they pick their position and hone in on your party as the music reaches that climax is incredible. It would only be made more epic by a tank LB3 cast just in time to defend against it. I will forever hold Shadowbringers to be the best expansion for moments like these and many more, I just don't see it being topped.
The transformation completely caught me off guard, I was in VC with people who had played this already and was like "WHAT THE FUCK??" and they were just laughing like mad xD
I think I finally understand the theme behind these songs. The choirs are the servants of light, imposing what they deem are just laws. But the one voice that is constantly muffled by electronics is the neglected individuals. Who are trying to express their distress and protests against their angelic overlords. But that can never make it through, sounding like nothing more but mere sounds joining in the machinations of powerful deities who see nothing but perfection in world they are otherwise ruining.
Soken Masayoshi san's music has been so transformative in my life ive been adding non stop ost from the final fantasy xiv experience ever since i stumbled upon the game, needless to say i inmediatly fell in love with the story and here we are 3 months later having finished shadowbringers, and man what a journey. As the leader of the Sin Eaters, "Innocence" is terrifyingly appropriate: it means he's utterly, completely free of sin. *In his own eyes.* And in a world full of Sinners, there can be nothing more frightening than one who thinks themselves superior to everyone else.

I don't want XIV to stop anytime soon but I guarantee after he moves on he will make the best single player game to come out of Japan in decades
We already know he's working on another title, which could be the next FF. Or something else, we don't quite know.
Rumor is he's developing FFXVI right now.
Rebel Heart I doubt it. Square not going to make their directors work on more one game at time, you seen what happens ff15 and KH3
@@Tokkoking cause you know exactly what the board is thinking.. lol. There's a reason why Yoshida was promoted a year ago and mysterious job postings suddenly popped up for a new "high fantasy" RPG. BTW: FF15 and KH3 sold well to their standards, just because YOU didn't like the result of Nomura working on both simultaneously doesn't mean the people making decisions did not.
Innocence gained Nidhogg/Zenos status over one story arc of MSQ. One of the best fights ever.

I’m certainly loving this way more than the Asian-sounding stuff from Stormblood. How refreshing
@a HERO that doesn’t know what protect means The music does have this sacrosanct/religious touch to it.
Stormblood was good but they played the dungeon boss theme wayyy too much
I love how every expansion’s music tone is so different and matches each theme perfectly, it’s just so [chef’s kiss]
EVER SINCE HE LAUNCH TRAILER I WANTED TO KNOW WHERE THE MUSIC CAME FROM. The piano and everything AHHHHH I’m dead it’s so good

the motif of "Who Brings Shadow" is hella foreboding and foreshadowing because you already KNOW what's next
Still one of my favorite transformations and angelic designs of all time.
So when our group saw this opening cutscene of him walking down the stairs, my bf casually said "o lawd he comin" and the rest of us just lost it
I showed this to my mom to share the music with her. She had no context to who Vaulthry was, but she was immediately wary of him. She said "If he has that gait with all this weight he must be one strong mother fucker."
@@UltimatBlitz And what did she say about the music?
@@saintgeekSG she liked it, she likes most final fantasy music
What amazes me is... When he walks down them stairs the whole fucking Mountain don't have constant 7.0 earthquakes

I always get really excited the first time I see the AoE's in these fights. "OH, WHAT'S IT GONNA LOOK LIKE? I'LL DODGE IT, BUT HOW BONED WAS I?"
0:12 me coming downstairs to get the delivered pizza
I dropped my jaw when I saw that the throne was there only to be the areola in Innocence head like a saint. The environment, the music, the boss itself and the cinematic decisions of this trial were incredibly amazing
Watching Vaulthry walk down those stairs is more horrifying than Zodiark ever was.
Soken still blows me away everytime
There are two reasons I queue up for the duty intentionally to this day:
1. To hear the piano player going mental
2. To see first timers' reactions to the transformation
😂
1st Phase reaction: Balloon boy.
2nd Phase reaction: KEFKA 5.0 !!
Welp, I love this game.
I do this the EX fight with learning parties just so I can listen to this for hours.
YES ANGEL DADDY BRING THE PAIN.
It isn't the extreme,
However I can kinda hear liberi fatali if that is what you meant?
The lyrics are the same ones that repeat from the main theme and the boss theme
This is isn't FF8 ultemecia but this expac is FF8 geared for sure. You can hear the same progression here and there.
Okay I thought I heard it and came here to confirm. It is a tad different but VERY similar, obviously inspired given the FF8 presence in this expac.
2:40 Is addicting to listen to.
Can we appreciate for a moment the fact that the transformation is fucking awesome, that ShB REALLY delivers the Duality/Morality-Questing System and that many of the comments are just extremely funny and good? :D
The irony of Shin Megami Tensei's Chaos route
8 youngsters beat up an overweight man. What happens next will shock you!
Calling this a masterpiece is an understatement...
Probably my favorite trial in the whole game still. This was Seat of Sacrifice before Seat of Sacrifice. This was when we really brought the shadow
Man they just keep making better and better osts! so good!

I feel like this song is slept on.
True it's arguably Sokens Magnum Opus imho.
I'd like to thanks for having us enjoy your talent mister Masayoshi san and i hope you keep on bringing us such an auditory experience that which you excell this much.

As the leader of the Sin Eaters, "Innocence" is terrifyingly appropriate: it means he's utterly, completely free of sin.

Innocent's theme name is "Insanity."
Insanity in definition is trying to do the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome. I think it fits him well if you think about it
@@KitsuneVoidsinger Agreed, from trying to save the world through decadence and bliss, from him starting over after his kingdom is taken over by the warrior of light and friends, this is a man who is the definition of "Insanity."
@@christianrodriguez8577 That's not even the tip of the iceberg of his insanity, it goes far deeper than that. Treating people who are no longer usefull as tools to be discarded whitout concern for their lives or sacrificing people to sin eaters under false promises of ascension. And let's not forget, feeding sin eater meat as food to be distributed. Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's another level of insanity and evil right there.
