I really can't understand why most people are saying this is a weak boss theme. Tbh, it's perfect. It suits the ambient and story of this expansion. We're basically falling of our title of WoL to that of a Warrior of Darkness to save the world from light in general.
Boss theme and Holminster Switch have some pretty good themes. I think this expansion’s soundtrack is doing a lot better than Stormblood already. Then again, I just don’t like Japanese-style music

I personally think this one is weak because I don't sense any urgency in it. I feel like just listening to an ordinary somber, sad song, and so it doesn't make me feel pumped to punch the boss in the face (or stab them thousands of times). Them playing around in low notes only doesn't help at all. In comparison, Heavensward, eventhough had similar somber, sad song as it's theme (Dragonsong), we can still sense the urgency in the boss battle from the variety in melody; the higher-pitched tones helped with pumping up our adrenaline
This game does much and more with peoples' emotions. When *that* popped up? My blood turned to ice. Nothing in this game has EVER been more instantly terrifying.
Im not gonna lie... I actually kinda wish that was an actual boss fight. When the music came on I felt the familiar hype in my head of like "Oh yeah, BOSS TIME!" And then he fell, and then I had a laugh and a sad. It was a very confusing day.
@@Skijaramaz , if anything, I was disappointed we couldn't just beat the crap out of him instead of resorting to "Wicked white, we killed him!" tactics.

Honestly, I love this theme so much. I've actually caught myself humming it at work at times. Great job to the music department with this expansion's soundtrack and thanks for the upload!
I just finished ShadowBringers and when you play as Thancred and this banger is playing in the background, you feel every emotion Thancred has at that point. Anger, sadness, the will to protect. This song is perfect!
"Wanna see me push my aether to the brink of nothingness and almost kill myself in the process?" "Wanna see me do it again?" "...Wanna see me somehow go even further than that?"
that was the first time I paid any attention to the song and honestly yeah. Of course, being a FFXIV song with lyrics, you can't tell what half of them are just by listening to it, but you just _know_ that it has some deep meaning
To be honest i really like it, this is in perfect harmony with the theme of this expansion. It's as if we are struggling to survive, yet we've got the power to be able to. It has this epic, desperate tone, to kill or to be killed. On another side, it's as if you're now on equal footstep with the being in front of you. Anyway, i really love it !
I agree Heavensward did it better. Heck, I even feel like this boss battle is the weakest. "Answers" got the "trying to survive" theme better (tho in Answer's case, it's a world-ending song). I just don't sense any urgency while listening to it, and especially not the feeling of wanting to punch a boss in the face
@@tjongdavid1921 that's because that isn't what this expansion is about. They're trying to evoke a feeling of sadness, longing, struggle, and someberness, which Soken absolutely nails. This is a world in which the success of heroes was the path to ruin. Their saviors regarded as villains a century later. The monsters we face, sin eaters, are originally the living people of this world, every one you kill is killing a native of the First, and Lightwardens especially, most if not all were other heroes that defeated the previous, before that selfsame light corrupted them. There is no glory or celebration in what we have to do here.
@@xenostrider I honestly don't know how I feel about it? Like it sounds nice but... Stormbloods boss theme would have me feeling a rush, you know? I just don't feel anything for this one.
Its more about post apocalyptic survival than overcoming overwhelming odds, which gives stbs a more grandoise flair. I enjoy stbs more but this one is still also great
This song has a bit of wistful longing about it, like someone who's been sad a long time and is starting to fight back. I suppose that hope is this expansion's theme where hotbloodedness was last time's.
One of the best ost's of all fcking time !!! soken is a genius... it's so deep, you can literally feel the weight of beeing THE _Warrior of Darkness_ ❤🛐
Playing Dark Knight for this expansion just feels right. Especially given what Fray teaches you - you can't save everyone. You just have to save who you can
Soon as I heard this fighting this boss gave me a reminiscent vibe of FF8 battle theme. The intro part. First thing that popped in my mind when it started. And this is a fantastic theme.
oh so there are people who played ff8 and notice the same time as soon as i heard this theme i thought of ff8 but then again gunbreaker was brought into to this so i understood why.
There's nothing in the Bible describing angels forms save for a couple lines, and they describe them as either formless, or preferring to take the form of humans. Not grotesque abominations.
How many years have come and gone since that day? How many years have I waited for this moment? For the one that stood alone against the storm? For the one they called... The Warrior of Light?
This tragedy, greater even that the Seventh Umbral Calamity...*Must* be undone. If history is to be unwritten... Let it *be* unwritten. Become what you must. Become the Warrior of Darkness.
This theme does an amazing job at capturing the tone and atmosphere of ShB storyline. It carries a heavy weight of what's happening, and I love it. There is no glory in ShB. It's a sad storyline where there is only the struggle for survival against an ever consuming primordial light and saving anyone we can, as well as those yet to be saved... It's so damn amazing.
As many said before, I love the feelings this theme invokes. Other boss music is badass or scary, but this right here really makes you feel the existential threat these beings represent. It genuinly made me feel dread, when I first encountered the Lightwardens.
I know we have our own taste and opinions.those who do not like it must have just skipped over all the MSQ.this song clearly fits shadowbringers and is congruent with the worlds situation.I get inspired to music like this.
And it actually makes you want to defeat the boss so it doesnt create any more sin eaters. It kind of pumps you into killing this, because of everyone that has because of such beasts.
"Those who skipped over the MSQ." They're playing the wrong MMO if they did. I'm not even trying to be rude or anything; different people have different preferences in Story-Gameplay balance, and 14 is much heavier on the story compared to the raw gameplay of many other MMOs. There's nothing wrong with having a preference and I'm not making fun of anyone who prefers to just play. It's just that over the years I've noticed a difference in core demographic between the story lover and the story hater, and I think there's something to be said for having games for everyone to enjoy.
Siara Levy ...or you know they could just not care for the style lmao like I loved the MSQ and it’s tied with HW as my favorite FF story period at this point but I loathe the use of autotune and found it jarring to the point it was breaking my immersion. Autotune anything makes me think of T-Pain shit from 2000s and just instantly dates the track.
🎶The road that we walk Is lost in the flood Here proud angels bathe in Their wages of blood At this, the world’s end, do we cast off tomorrow🎶 Definitely my favorite part. Gets me fucking hyped every time.
Me: *Trying to keep up with Alisaie as she sprints across the bridge* Also me *WE FAAAAAAAAALL! I FAAAAAAALL!! I FAAAAAAAALLL again* oh npcs beat mechanic without me? Nice!
I personally find this to be my favorite. The feeling of hopelessness and then revving into a harder rift though not as powerful still felt like a life or death battle. Honestly it was amazing during tessleens fight. Realizing you have to fight something that use to be a friend after watching them transform into a mindless creature.
Leafia Barrett that’s what I’m loving about it. I’m not very far into the MSQ and won’t spoil anything, but this expansion so far has darker themes.... pun intended 😂
For me, it has Nightmare Fuel galore. The scene were we saw how a person gets transformed into a Sin Eater? I actually felt queasy after that for a while.
@@DiogoJ1 Incorrect. Insofar as the game's terminology is concerned, the Sin Eaters /are/ holy. Light/Astral affinity IS what "Holy" means in this game. Evil is a relative concept. The reason the Sin Eaters wish to purge all life is for the sin of imperfection - one might legitimately say, then, that it is good, no? Perhaps your character is evil for opposing them and clinging to an imperfect life? Therefore, how can you say, with certainty, they're unholy and evil?
@@Newsandjy No, they aren't holy, they are light elemental, and corrupt light at that. If they were holy, they wouldn't even attack the warrior of light in the first place, since he's a servant of the holiest of all. There's nothing sinfull about being imperfect, only about doing evil. Many innocents died at the sin eaters, like Alisaie's friend. She did nothing wrong but was killed all the same. No. My character is righteous for opposing them. They are beasts no better than Lavos who consume all they touch, to destroy them is the right thing to do. Any imperfections one may have don't deserve death. Sineaters, despite their name, they don't care about sin, they only care about aether and consuming as much as possible of it, no matter who they kill. They are eldritch abominations who need to be put down for they are a threat to both good and evil people. I can say with certainty, because they kill innocents and because Hydaelyn helps opposing them, who may or not may be a primal, but still righteous all the same.
This is such an incredible boss theme - I was standing there listening to it in awe. Just when I think Soken's done something incredible, he gives us wonderful pieces like this.
Everyone have the right to like or dislike what they want, but as an expert musician I can say this theme objectively fits the expansion and it's a great theme, the composition is not as repetitive as sb boss theme, I think this is on pair with hw boss theme.
By far one of my favorite songs from Shadowbringers. Just got a new pair of headphones and with the bass amplification my whole body is just shivering from the bass at the beginning...holy crap.
That is what happened to me. I heard this song before playing the expansion and was like 'eh it's ok I guess. Kinda weird and a little off-putting' Then played the first dungeon got to this boss and was like ' OMG this song is ducking awesome'. Now I love it.
I don't know why but there's just something about this song that resonates really strongly with me on a subconscious emotional level. It's epic but tragic, and overall just really moving to the point where it's almost distracting trying to play the fight because I just want to listen to it.
For all those saying this is weaker, rethink it. It's because of the stories. The Stormblood boss theme was designed with the focus on taking something back; fighting for freedom. To me, it always sounded like a war call. It made you get pumped. This one is a lot softer because of the story and what's going on in it. It's got a "mystical" feel to it, with a lot of mystery and darker tones in it. I think it's perfect, and absolutely my favorite boss theme to date. EDIT: After playing the story for a few days, I can safely say this song is about desperation. At it's core, it is a prime example of having lost all hope as your angels/gods feast on your blood with no way out. I appreciate this piece far more now.
I agree with these points...But I also want to echo something I've felt and heard a few others say. This theme has an edge of desperation in it...We're no longer fighting for one nation, or even a handful. We are now fighting, well and truly, for an entire world. One that is so near the end that hope has no meaning to it. It is also my favorite, because it has that feeling of consequence, even if it's just a repeating boss theme we'll hear a lot of.
This boss looks like venom fused with a nobody. But this expansion has been awesome and i love how it shows the horrible reality of all those who die outside of the knowledge of your character. The death and despair has always been there weve just been blind to it for the most part
Initially I didn't really take to liking this song. But given time with it I've learned to appreciate it for what it is. My interpretation is that of desperation. Considering that the world of the First has fallen to the hands of the Sin Eaters with no hope, no resolve, no future overall. Just a world on the brink of falling to light. And the only hope for this world is us. We might be backed into a corner in this strange and mysterious world but like a wild animal we will fight for our right to survive. That's just how I see it.
which is why I love shonen anime, it does the same thing. like watching Bleach and right before a stare down and all seems lost... suddenly you hear the first few notes of Ichigo's theme start to play... Oh, shit is about to get real.
I am loving the whole idea of making 'light' evil and darkness good. Its seems like a really simple flip but they made it work. For some reason when it comes to the story I have this widespread tension that someone 'good' we bought hook line and sinker is going to turn out to be evil later on.
@@neiloch it's less about making darkness good and more about having a balance. The whole theme is that both sides of the spectrum are dangerous if tipped on its scale.
To me this song resonates between desperation and mystery, since very quickly into the storyline you are told that the steaks are even higher than before, because now you know you must stop Urianger's vision of the future from coming to pass
It's alright to feel just know that you have no choice but to fight as a hero so unleash all your power and energy into your weapon and strike at this part of the song
This boss and this part of the story signifies the arrival of the warrior of darkness after seeing the horrors of the lightwarden in Kholusia and ESPECIALLY in Amh araeng they had no choice but to pick up the greatsword.
I like how the theme sounds like the world is already ruined but there's still some people fighting. We know that basically is just us with the scions tho
This boss theme screams Final Fantasy Meets Nier Automata and I LOVE IT. The low keys and the subdued voices gives you the feeling that Shadowbringers is meant to give you. You're fighting a battle that was already long since lost, a world that lost everything by beating the dark, only to realize that its own power consumes itself when left unquestioned until it was too late.
It gives me much hope for the YoRha alliance raids if the expansion music is this good! I'm so hyped! I've loved everything about this expansion so far.
Enemies in other games never scared me as much as Sin Eaters do…. Its just something about Light being the evil and Darkness actual relief, i love ShB so much
I love just how much love for ff8 is in shadowbringers. This song is the prime example. Especially growing up my whole life as an ff8 fan while the majority of the community just laughed at it and said it sucked. Now everyone loves shadowbringers and dont recognize the irony lol
Whenever I hear this in-game, I have the biggest goddamn smile on my face. Is it weird that I slam my fist on the table in time with the words every time he sings “WE FAAAAALLL!” or nah?
Considering many games treat Light as a religion or similar to one, it was only a matter of time before they will depicted as evil in modern media. Even in WoW the Light is turning out to be evil.
I don't think it's so much that the light is evil or the darkness is evil. It's just a matter of balance. It's quite an interesting concept that both elements are capable of terrible things providing the right circumstances.
It's hard to even find the right words. This is SO good, and it's just THE REGULAR BOSS THEME. Shadowbringers has stepped up EVERYTHING, so unexpectedly, so tragically, so gorgeously.
After listening a fair amount to this and finishing Shadowbringers I realized that this theme uses lyrics from Who Brings Shadow, the best bits from it at that, teased from the very first dungeon of the expansion.. I adore this OST so much
lmao this was my first reaction when viewing this video as well. I did the dungeon with real people, and holy shit, did you see those NPCs IMMEDIATELY go to the linear stack marker. WILD. Or breaking the chain ?? Yeah, I died there because my party members... didn't see the chain ? I don't know man. I'm sure ALISAIE AND LYNA would fucking have.
Considering those NPCs are programed to know exactly what the mechanics are and execute them almost perfectly is the only reason why they are better then people right now.
@@aliciafraser1835 Exactly. I did this dungeon with 4 random ppl on a blind run. It was alright. We got caught offguard on the first left/right rotation but that's all.
Not going to lie, i wish Trust would exist at least for Stormblood. The immersion between the dungeon and characters are soo good! Imagine doing that Bardum's Mettle with Hein and Lyse?! Twas be amazing! Loving the whole Trust system soo much makes this RPG game feel even more RPG!
Bardam's Mettle wouldn't work with Trusts because each NPC is there on their own and meant to be. This is supposed to be every person's individual's challenge. In this dungeon, you are technically not with other players, but are overcoming a challenge on your own while your NPC friends do the same. You are all there to prove your individual worth.

Welcome to Shadowbringers, where holy zombies want to eat your life energy.
If they are zombies and beings of pure evil at that, then they aren't holy in the first place. They are light elemental, but not holy.
XIV meets Hollows.

I don't know why but there's just something about this song that resonates really strongly with me on a subconscious emotional level. It's epic but tragic, and overall just really moving to the point where it's almost distracting trying to play the fight because I just want to listen to it.
the intro is similar to FF8's battle theme after that, it's a whole new thing! love it!
Nah, it lacks impact and it's underwhelming in every way.

Everytime I hear this music in game I think oh shit something is about to go down.
which is why I love shonen anime, it does the same thing. like watching Bleach and right before a stare down and all seems lost... suddenly you hear the first few notes of Ichigo's theme start to play...

This boss and this part of the story signifies the arrival of the warrior of darkness after seeing the horrors of the lightwarden in Kholusia and ESPECIALLY in Amh araeng they had no choice but to pick up the greatsword.
What you are hearing here is a wonderful passing of the torch from Nobuo to Soken. He did an AMAZING job with SHB.

The low keys and the subdued voices gives you the feeling that Shadowbringers is meant to give you. It's amazing how this expansion flipped all the progress we did in the Source, and now light is evil. Mind has been blown so far in the story.
Its as Ardbert said in Heavenward.
Light or Dark doesn't matter only how you wield it 🤔
Considering many games treat Light as a religion or similar to one, it was only a matter of time before they will depicted as evil in modern media.
Even in WoW the Light is turning out to be evil.
I don't think it's so much that the light is evil or the darkness is evil. It's just a matter of balance. It's quite an interesting concept that both elements are capable of terrible things providing the right circumstances.
