    Regardless of choices made in the original trilogy, a child asks either an Asari or Humanoid Stargazer what else do we know about the Shepard, to which the Stargazer replies that have only told the child a few of the stories and that they will tell the child one more story.
    Bioware needs wins. DA:Dreadwolf will probably do well, but another Mass Effect game coming up short would leave them right back where they were after the shortcomings of Andromeda and Anthem. They might not please everyone by canonizing the perfect Destroy ending, but it's important to keep in mind that the Bioware stats on ending choices weren't solely for new play-throughs. Many players have role-played for multiple possible endings through different play-throughs. The combined number of choices between Control and Synthesis are just 2 percentage points ahead of those of just Destroy. Most committed fans have played for the perfect Destroy ending at least once. So, if they were to choose one ending to canonize, the Destroy ending would be the one to go with. With so much on the line, it would be the most pragmatic choice given that the size and scope of a game to incorporate all possible choices from the original trilogy would be massive.

    One of the biggest errors that bioware made, was that they made N7 too synonymous with Shepard. Yes we have met other N7 operatives, but when you see anything N7, you can’t tell me that it doesn’t make you instantly think of Shepard. Showing that N7 armor fragment in the trailer will make a lot of fans really happy, or very disappointed.
    I might be in the vocal minority here, but I really do want Commander Shepard back. Anything else would be a let down for me. Hopefully BioWare will officially declare Perfect destroy as the canon ending. Great vid as always. Love to hear these theories and ideas.

    Destroy is the only ending where Shepard could survive _physically_ , but in Control they are technically still alive, just on a different level. Liara leading an effort to find a way to separate Shepard from the Reaper collective consciousness, having to work with or against the Leviathan (or the Geth) to find a solution. It's science fiction, there are ways to make any ending of ME3 work.

    I absolutely believe Bioware is bringing Shepard back in some form. They are in a precarious situation after Mass Effect : Andromeda (which is making it's comeback, finally) and Anthem's downfall. While not everyone wants Shepard back, Bioware has too much riding on Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and Mass Effect 5 that if DA:D bombs, they will have no choice but to bring an Iconic character back just to save their company. They have already canonized the destroy ending, we saw ruined Relays that weren't being repaired, and a planet covered in Reaper Corpses. Being as Destroy is the only survivable ending of the four choices, that alone means that Shepard is returning in some fashion as does the unmistakable return of Liara. While Liara was a pivotal character in the Trilogy, she is not Main Character material. I also believe that is why Legendary was released when it was, for this generation of tech; easier to transfer saves if a launcher already exists. Also, a mysterious sixth ark left that is unaccounted for.

    • @lumina1104
      @lumina1104 Год назад +8

      I agree entirely. Furthermore, the stats released by Bioware regarding ending choices didn't look at only first play-throughs. They looked at the totality of play-throughs. While Destroy may have been chosen fewer than half, it was still just 2 percentage points below the combined number of times Contol and Synthesis were chosen. Sure, not everyone got the perfect Destroy ending, but the vast majority of devoted fans played to achieve that ending at least once.

    I think one of the biggest hints so far at ME5 was the artwork of the crater that looked like a geth and the SFX shuttle. At the ground you can see bodies of what appear to be recently killed geth. This would imply that the destroy ending was only partially succesful, meaning there could still be a living Shepard, EDI, geth, and even reapers. If ME5 isn't about hunting down Shepard, it is possible it could be hunting down the remaining reapers in a broken galaxy

  • @KEWords
    @KEWords Год назад +7

    Let the writers work. Perfect Destroy is not the only ending we can bring Shep back from. Imperfect Destroy is the hardest as it may destoy earth and Shep. But even them maybe Shep is MIA..
    Control is too easy. Citadel DLC already introduced us to a Clone of Shep,.. So Clone shep can have AI Shep downloaded back.
    Synthesis: Shep is distributed through out the Galaxy, but what Shep contributes is still there, Geth create a program to find Shep in their network, reconstitute Shep's consciousness, and download into a synthetic or clone body.
    Character Creator: Choose body type Synthetic or Clone? Now choose hair.. ... yadda yadda
    No fiction writer with a tiny bit of creativity sees any of the endings impossible to carry out or to reconcile into a common Galaxy state a few years after ME3.

    Here’s a theory: intro- a cutscene of what’s been happening since the end of the reapers(might be a long cutscene)-, the conversation that was being had for the n7 teaser is being spoken by Laura and then it transitions into a small prologue where your laura taking over and following a linear path while she slow walks on that frozen planet- she sees a pod where she wipes away the snow from it and says I found you…pause…Shepard andddddd boom character creation

  • @Klijpo
    @Klijpo Год назад +10

    Really appreciate you mentioning the caveats about early teasers and concept art. However, I think the N7 piece really could be from an unknown soldier's hardsuit. If we analyse the teaser scene from another point of view, Liara could be trekking up the dead reaper for some other purpose, and then happen across the N7 fragment. Such a find would elicit the fond nostalgic emotions you highlight, without the need for the item to be actually Shepard's.
    Thing is, the N7 logo is going to be part of the marketing come what may. It is *the* most significant piece of branding in the whole franchise. BW/EA's marketing department will insist in its inclusion, Shepard or no Shepard. That's why we got it in ME:A, not because it was necessary to the story. I think your idea about altering the logo's presentation is a good one, as if Shepard isn't in the game, they shouldn't confuse the fanbase. But we're gonna see a lot more of the N7 no matter what.

  • @irvins8160
    @irvins8160 Год назад +11

    Personally I would rather play as a new N7 soldier and have Shepard be relegated to being a legend with statues and museums on Citadel and Earth. Maybe if the game is set a few decades after Reaper war new protagonist could be an orphan from the reaper war. Having Shepard be the playable protagonist would be cool but only if it's executed properly and having him around as NPC/Advisor would end up just as well as Hawke being an NPC in Inquisition.

    for me making the perfect destroy ending as canon, as the other endings are basically you being successfully indoctrinated by the reapers makes sense... control and synthesys are indocrination, as we saw with saren and the illusive man, destroy is the only way to win.

    Another great vid, Kala. I don't think the 2020 trailer means anything more then the return to Mass Effect in the milky way. Also, in the shot of the planet next to the Citadel, I believe it shows it's still on the Sol system. If you look to the left of the planet there are 3 distinct stars, that to me look like Orion's belt.

    Nice video, I'm glad I've found your channel as the other ones are kinda drifting out the style I like lately, so I'm prioritizing watching your videos for Mass Effect materials than the others. Please keep it up! Talking about EA/Bioware, well, besides all the challenges the creative team from Bioware already have in their hands, I believe they are also on hold because EA execs are waiting for Starfield to see how they'll handle the next game. Let's hope it will be a more positive thing than an extra layer of pressure for them. Only time will tell. But I wish the Bioware Team all the best and I hope they can provide us an excellent game when the time comes!

      There are two dead Reapers on the planet in the teaser. The fact that these are two dead Reapers was confirmed by the developers themselves on Twitter.
      And before the release of Andromeda, the developers said that the Reapers did not fly to other Galaxies. That is, dead Reapers cannot be in Andromeda on the planet

    There are something that you all needs to understand, that this Bioware its not that company of the early 2011, this company really need a huge hit to stay alive, and this franchise too, so the only protagonist that can "save" Bioware, from been close from EA, its Shepard and some of his crew.

    • @me5969

      I'm 100% behind you on that one. It's a complete waste to have us cuckholded by a deified an immortal Shepherd who at this point will have literally bounced back from death more times than Jesus. The possibility of exploring the universe and its stories and not be shackled by the past is too much to not wish for. Not only that but part of the reason the original trilogy was so good were the odds. It's like if Red Dead kept bringing John or Arthur back from the dead. It takes away any emotional impact and thus renders the entire games completely pointless. The ending and the consequences and the emotional weight of the Reaper invasion would be undone if Shep keeps coming back like a Saturday morning cartoon villain of the 90s.
      Also to keep putting him on some sort of pedestal as if he was literally the only competent soldier in a universe full of Asari commandos, N7s, Krogan, Drell assassin's, Torians and Spectres will just made any subsequent character feel inept and unbelievable.

    I always though that the reason ME:Andromeda "had" to go to Andromeda, 600+ years in the future, was to avoid the disastrous mess that the disjointed endings of ME:3 dumped on us. They should have left us with endings that all could have been cannon if and when the franchise moved past the trilogy. If I'd been an EA or BioWare shareholder, I'd have been pissed that they tossed their wildly successful franchise to the wind. The writers also never gave us players the choice of the most logical ending, Shepard and the Citadel AI agreeing that Shepard had just totally disproven the original assumption that organics and synthetics couldn't get along. If we'd played our cards right, we had peace between the Quarrians and Geth and stuff like Joker and EDI's relationship which disproved the rather absurd "there can never be peace" assumption totally.
    In pretty much all of the possible ME:3 endings, Shepard could have been saved and wound up anywhere - even in Andromeda. Yeah, we might have seen him/her dissolve or disappear in a big explosion, but the writers could always pull a rabbit out of their hat and just say he mysteriously got transported to the other side of the universe instead. Or for that matter, all of the ending scenes we had could wind up just being a dream, with more limited choices being then offered as ME:5 starts - just like the "Dallas" TV soap opera did years ago. Many options, so Shepard could come back any way they want!
    The one thing that closely integrating the Trilogy and Andromeda in the next game would give us are some existing mysteries to resolve. Where did the Jardaan go? Who do the Kett report to? Who was the benefactor? And why was Jen Garson murdered? Lots of possibilities, but it needs to be different than the original threat from the Reapers. Maybe the Jardaan have left Andromeda and are now threatening the Milky Way or something... All that is a must is that it can't be just another flavor of what we've already done!
    Love your analysis and thoughtful videos, keep up the good work!

    Harbinger saved Shepard from the Citadel (because reasons....). Then the destroy beam rode the mass relays and took Harbinger down in the same way that it forced the Normandy down onto the jungle planet, only Harbinger didn't survive. It's Harbinger on the snow planet, and that's why Shepard's helmet is also there. I may, or may not be joking..... :D
    It'll be a new protagonist. I agree that it won't be Liara, or any of the other established characters, and I subscribe to the timeline being much closer to ME3 than MEA so I can't see how it would by Ryder. A new protagonist makes most sense.
    I can't really see how they won't have to canonize an ending, and although I agree that Destroy was chosen by less than half of the playerbase, it was still by far the most popular of the 4 choices. Knowing how divisive the ending was it makes sense to me that if they canonize any ending it will be the most popular one so as to annoy as few people as possible.

    when i saw Andromeda, i never once thought of Shepard. for my Shepard was dead, the only way he was coming back, was restarting and making a new version. when i see the n7 piece, i dont think of them finding shepard, but more just finding random parts that remind them of the past. i would love play as liara, but i don't think we can, i think were getting a new protaganist. Ryder wont make sense with them only being a few years since the ending of mass effect 3, so unless they want to put continuity on its head, and introduce time travel, then i feel were getting either a new guy, or an already pre-established character, i would love it to be garus, but we only see a turian, salarian, and what looks like a krogan. so i think at least some of the crew survived. while the new protaganist will have to come to terms that they are standing in shepards old place, and having him question things as they go, i don't want shepard back as the main protaganist if they keep him alive.

    I’m not married to any one theory really. Frankly, it’s a recipe for disappointment for anyone if ME5 doesn’t go where they think/want it to.
    I’m cool with anything BioWare decides to do with Mass Effect 5. As long as it’s as good as the trilogy and fits well with the series. And they address what happened to our original Squad post Reaper War. A proper send of and explanation after everything we’ve been through with them throughout the trilogy.
    I’m fine if they leave Shepard dead or somehow survives ME3. If dead, I hope we stick with Ryder and not bring in yet another protagonist so soon after we got Ryder. I’ve grown fond of her. Just age the Andromeda squad up a bit, make them more mature and battle hardened like the old squad. And maybe have her go through the N7 training and earn the same rank as her father/Shepard. Would be even better if we actually play through the training.
    And for the love of God, get rid of Liam. Seriously, f^ck that guy

    As much as I hate to admit it but its truly the most likely thing is to bring Sheppard back in a major way ie: looking for him alive or otherwise or just using a vi of him but any way you put it there is zero possibility that any person in the entire milky way hadnt heard of Sheppard and not grown up hearing stories of him/her. When your least famous thing is first human specter and savior of the citadel you become unavoidable and sadly that's something bioware will have to deal with. I mean youve made this one character a mythical being to the point that its impossible to not have heard at least 5 stories about the person.

    Here's what I think, and I apologize in advance for this being a lengthy post, but after analyzing, I have came to a conclussion. I do feel like Bioware will bring back Shepard in the next Mass Effect game.
    First, we see them making the destroy ending cannon due to all the destruction left behind from the reapers, as well as a mass effect relay still left in ruins. This ending is the only ending where Shepard survives, while the other two endings Shepard doesn't survive.
    Second, we see a shuttle entering a planet's atmosphere, which looks very similar to the shuttle that was used on the SSV Normandy. If we remember from the ending of Mass Effect 3, we see the Normandy taking off after crash landing on a planet. They could of left to realign themselves with the remaining alliance fleet, or they could of left to search for Commander Shepard, which brings to my next point.
    Third, We see Liara climbing up a snowy hill, with a Reaper barely visible in the background. We also see her stopping to pick up a N7 piece that was left in the snow. This was a piece of armor that Shepard did wear during the Priority: Earth mission, so it's very possible that that piece belongs to him/her. Also, Liara was on board the SSV Normandy the entire time during Mass Effect 3 storyline, and with her vast intel she possesses, it's very possible that she picked up intel on Shepard's location. Not to mention, when she picked that piece of armor up, she smiled, which could mean to signal that her intel was accurate, and that she found where Shepard is.
    Fourth, We see a figure walking in a building that is wearing the iconic N7 attire, but with a jacket and a helmet. This could very well be Shepard, since that is an alliance outfit, and the only one that really wore that was Shepard. Whether this is true or not, is still up in the air, but this is also a hint at his/her return to the Mass Effect game.

    I know it's far fetched, but my theory is Liara is looking for Reaper Tech to help fight The Kett who might have invaded the Milky Way. And she just happened to stumble on the N7 piece and remember her time with Shepard. That way nothing needs to be explained or canonized. Ryder may still be the protagonist this way. As far as travel, they maybe found a way for relay jumps between galaxies or some other form of travel. Quarian ark, benefactor, Ryder's mother could all be part of this. Another possibility, could be part of Alec Ryder's helmet, even though highly unlikely. Liara knew him after all. And not throwing out the fact that Liara might be the benefactor after all she is The Shadow Broker. Just my thoughts.

    You were mentioning the dead reapers while others channel shown the approval from bioware if Liara is walking on a "Dead Reaper" which mean only happen on Destroyed ending., Or other possibilty that dead reapers is killed by shepard, but if it so, then the chance for Liara to walk on a dead reaper are known like Rannoch, Tuchanka, Desponia, and Citadel (Which I am not sure where is that dead sovereign been disposed) or there are more which means I am missed some important details. Or someone would say that is the sleeping reaper that Shepard control.?
    It is quite make senses about what you said about Liara was reminiscing or Remembering time with Shepard when she finds that N7 piece while she isn't in hurry state, so it would be a coincidence that she had happen to be there on some mission, at the other hand I thought that she were smiling because she found the N7 pieces without Shepard's dead body where could means Shepard is on the move. Just my thought..
    And some questions followed by some opinion that could be wrong about the time skip..
    We can see the destroyed mass relay in the trailer when we knew at ME endings, the Alliance with other races were try to rebuild which could mean if the times are skipped for centuries, the relays must have been finished to be repaired..
    At the other hands we knew in some poster there is a relay with probability Cerberus color.
    Here's my thoughts, the first race we knew who succeeds to copy a mass relay are Prothean races on Illos, then there is omega 4 relay where only connect to collector("also prothean") home base just like the relay on Illos, we knew that only Cerberus who succeeds to use the omega relay even translocate the destroyed or Intact technology from there while we also knew they have their own base for each different experience such as Overlord project, Sanctuary, even Aria's Omega. So it make senses if they already start to build their own Relay without being noticed by the Alliance. Since not finished by the end at War with the reapers, so it can't be counted for the crucible as a part of living synthetic. Besides, the Illusive Man already told us about the wrong perspective about Cerberus.
    But there is one thing that make me curious about ME;A which is not the creator of remnants tech but instead the "Benefactor". Unlimited resources and Credits just like Cerberus. Which could be a possibility of the connection between Andromeda and Milkyway, so it doesn't need the time skip but it is something more make sense to me if it were connected to the lost arc or the last possible arc..
    By the way I haven't played the Andromeda, it is not because what people said but because the poor console that I have so I could be wrongs..

    Andromeda are events in a different galaxy, they should just leave them there as like a spinoff, because technically it was just a spinoff if you think about it. The big question to, "what if we just went to another galaxy where there were no reapers?".
    Unless this game affects the entire universe, or the game is set in Ryder's time, I see no way how they can make the connection to Andromeda, and somehow have Shepard involved, without killing off everyone else we knew from the original trilogy with a few exceptions of course.
    Part of me is fairly confident it will be closer to the original trilogy. Since in the decipher Liara did mention the council still being around. And now maybe tying it to Andromeda, maybe the expedition still takes place for whatever reason and that's how it somehow ties itself to the story going forward I don't know.

    We can still see Shepard and the story tied to Andromeda...consider that the expedition started from the Milky Way. Did the expedition commence explicitly to escape the reapers? I think the destroy ending shouldn't be canon because it only demonstrates how the catalyst was right about organics killing sentient machines which was the whole reason the catalyst was created in the first place
    The best canon ending would be the control ending. It's the only one which demonstrates how organics and sentient machines can coexist which is the one thing the catalyst never knew how to do. By Shepard bringing together all the different races along with the rachni and geth it showed the catalyst that the harvest wasn't necessary anymore making the reapers unnecessary and not needed anymore
    Also the control ending allows organics and sentient machines to maintain their different was of life without having to combine each other like in the synthesis ending. I think for the next game Liara will find enough DNA to bring Shepard back for the next big threat to the galaxy. Probably the one's who caused the scourge in Andromeda

      @@user-wr7mb3ic7m That's true they would destroy any threat IF there was an outside threat to the galaxy. At some point in time Shepard's reapers would've discovered the Andromeda initiative and in doing so would've found out about the scourge, kett, and Jardín (the Angaran and kett creators). That would give the reapers not only a new target to protect but also one where they can help the initiative with settling in Andromeda
      They could also be the saviors of the other 3 vessels that we didn't see in Andromeda which had the Quarians, elcor, volus, and hanar aboard them. Also because the reapers did stay out in dark space it's very possible they went back out there again to sleep until they're needed. That would leave 1 reaper to monitor the galaxy just like sovereign did

    I would prefer a 2nd resurrection of Shepard. Liara clones Shepard, and you as Shepard continues and saves the galaxy again. To be another character that seeks Shepard disconnects me, as a player. Its odd. Yes, be Liara, resurrect Shepard, you continue the game as Shepard. Liara could be Shepard's canon love. Liara had given the remains to Cerberus, if I remember her dialog in her Ilium office. I rather forget about Ryder. The character was rather unlikable.
    Liara could be happy picking up the helmet piece because she might be able to find cloneable DNA in the immediate area. Skin, blood, saliva cells. She may, with the help of Javik perhaps since he may have the ability to sense and store memory in objects, have copied Shepard's consciousness. She may have done this during the last parting neural link at the makeshift headquarters in the ruins of London. The place where he/she says goodbye to Grunt, Garrus, EDI, Liara, etc.

Not sure why they even bothered with Andromeda in the first place. You make some valid points there however I think you forgot there was another species on the Citadel when shepard pushed the panic button. So my theory is that in perfect destroy ending the keepers rescue shepard and hide them somewhere so they can nurse them back to health. They do this because their only purpose was to facilitate the reapers but now that shepard released them from reaper control they need new purpose in life. Also, there is one species who would be perfect for hunting shepard.....the rachni. My personal preference would be for the rachni and the Zhu's Hope colonists to team up because now they share similar communication methods. I'm curious on your thoughts about these possibilities.
