    So I really like this type of content where the devs give inside info and stuff like that, but do people enjoy this stuff? I never know if this is the kind of topic I should be covering? Let me know if this is stuff you're interested in or not lol.

      Yes! I love this kind of content 👍 it's so interesting to hear straight from the devs themselves. Hearing the inside scoop of how things went down etc. Thanks for the video!

      Quick thing: Mac Walters is not a dev. He was a good writer & a sh*t lead writer/narrative director/project director at BioWare. And a creepy Liara-stan.

    The legendary edition was such a positive surprise. Originally I was hesitant of buying it, since I already owned the games in their original state, but after getting it I've already sunk around 300 hours into the legendary edition anyway. I absolutely do find myself finishing it and then immediately wanting to go through it again. It just feels nice having all three in a cohesive format all together where you can go from one to the next without obstacles.
    The endings aren't great still, but it would've been strange if they'd changed them now. A re-framing or re-contextualising the endings feels like it would need to be done in a new game, not in a remake/touch up project.

    I LOVE Mac Walters writing. If I was Mike Gamble, I'd take his directorial advice with a grain of salt, though. Mac was a director on Andromeda, Anthem, and at one time Dreadwolf, before departing prior to the completion of the game. He is one of my all-time favorite writers, but he hasn't been a director of any finished BioWare project, except Mass Effect Legendary Edition, which has been viewed as exceptionally good. Mass Effect Legendary didn't need much in the form of direction, though. They changed a couple of QOL issues, the combat, and improved the graphics. I'm not saying it was an easy process, but the small case direction of the game was already set. He just had to oversee the modernization; put the right people in the right spots to retell the same story with basically no changes. One would think a brilliant writer would be better at directing a game in a way that would better appeal to buyers and players.

    Love this coverage. It’s really interesting to know more about how certain things were developed and managed in the studios during how ME was made and how Andromeda was worked on. I always thought Andromeda was better than what I’ve seen a lot said about it. It would be really cool to be involved in the development cycle for the next ME game right now no matter how small or big of a position it might be. I’m sure communication and coordinating the team can be hard.

    Like Hulthen said in his stream, sci fi fans will be eating well in the near future. So many promising IPs coming out. And I really like that it's smaller studios with more story focus. Maybe Bethesda can rebuild their entire game engine from scratch while we explore other worlds, and finally put out something truly new.

    I absolutely love sci fi so anything in that genre is a game I will l certainly look for. Written and produced by people who have made Mass Effect means I will 100% buy, as it's almost a guarantee it'll be great.
    I'm as happy with narrative story games as RPG, at least I know I can't miss out on anything with a non RPG like I did bigtime with my 1st ME playthrough. As long as they can allow for us to choose our protagonist gender I'm happy.

    took me 120 hours (story quests, avg 40hrs/game)to do all 3 again when legendary came out, mass effect one i could have played an additional 20-40 hours just doing every inch of every planet but that time i didn't, i did only the important stuff, me2 scanning planets is longest so as soon as i had the resources i needed i kept on going and only scanned planets at least once for discovery purposes. One of the reasons i did not like andromeda is that it was a space age assassin's creed, the fact that is was a rushed game well thats what you get, for me they have to get mass effect 4 or 5 RIGHT, i first played mass effect when it first came out on xbox, i remember it blowing me away back then, mass effect 3 did that a little with the space battle ending and stuff, like that was cool but it didnt blow me away, in the next mass effect properly continuing mass effect 3 ending and then moving on is a necessary step i think. now the moving on part is where it has to blow us away. interview was awesome thx

    Mac said he wants to make a game like The Last of Us. I've played this. Then I looked up 'is The Last of Us an RPG'. Says RPG has gotten really muddied. The studio is Naughty Dog. They recently dropped a bomb that the multiplayer is canceled. Instead they are going to focus on a new IP. This could be another Sci-Fi. With all the Sci-Fi's coming I wonder if gamers will be tired of Sci-Fi by the time the next Mass Effect comes out.

    Andromeda had the best combat system and pacing of the combat of any of the games IMO the open worlds if more time had been spent developing them would of been nice to make you feel more immersed into the world as it had many good things to be taken from it and many bad things that should be dropped or changed

    I enjoyed Andromeda, but it was way below my Mass Effect experiences! They should have just renamed it Andromeda, and maybe have it mentioned in the new Mass Effect! I also don't like the design of any of the new intelligent alien species, other than the wild ones, some were great! Also a rough time being able to like any of the companions for that matter! Overall above average but couldn't feel the mass effect!

    That's a ridiculous statement...the entire point of making a game or anything to do with a game is the project, the culture and connecting with your coworkers has nothing to do with what you're doing, that is just idiosynchratic thinking. Makes sense it won't be an RPG, I don't think you can make a good/great RPG with a small team like he wants to work with.

  • @FLASK904

    Andromeda had the better story. The better writing. The better overarching antagonists.
    The original trilogy was a great set of games. But I really dont get people who think the story was something ground breaking. It was a classic scifi cliche about AI taking over the world...the reapers were essentially borg. They had no personality no political agenda, they were by definition, automatons. And the writing and jokes in the original trilogy were not that great. Infact i played it back now and some of them are down right cringe.
    People often think Kett are like a biological standin for Reapers. They couldnt be further from the truth. Kett are a colonial force. The Angara are fighting for their culture as much as they are for their right to exist. And the MW races are refugees. That is an incredibly interesting dynamic. The Kett have agendas, they can be talked to and negotiate with. They have likes and dislikes. Preference. And more importantly, they can be defeated like anyone else. They dont have the need for some deus ex magic super gun to kill. That makes for a better antagonist. That makes for an interesting thread to pull on.

  • @palpaladin315
    @palpaladin315 7 месяцев назад +1

    Andromeda is better overall than the first trilogy. - I think that aside from the tech not being quite there for remotely distributed development, which probably directly resulted in Andromedas terrible launch. - the other problem is that it released too closely behind ME3. - I didn't pick it up until years after release, so I don't have the "mouthed off too much to walk it back" stigma, most online do. (As if anyone gives a shit what anyone says after 5mins anyway.. 😃).
    I was actually disappointed that the LE wasn't re-worked based on ME:A's gameplay. Removing Galactic Readiness bar, in favour of establishing outposts like Eos, but you could shape them yourself. Nor that the Normandy was given more to do like the Tempest was. The ability to approach objectives from multiple different paths based on Characters role. - the LE really was just a remaster..
    I played the hell outta the first trilogy. Since playing Andromeda, I prefer to re-run that alone. The sibling mechanic is a big draw. The way the game generates Father and Mother based off their features was pretty cool. - I've seen very few real criticisms of Andromeda that were legit, and warranted; but still mostly subjective. Objectively Andromeda is the best game in the series.
    I'm expecting, IF there is ever a next installment, it will feature a continuity on Andromeda and certain Normandy crew (or their descendants) will make available, more crew options, much like ME2 did.

      @@supernova9930 Nah, the first trilogy would have been better as a TV show; actually have you ever seen the film Snatch? - In hindsight the Normandy crew felt like a reflection of my own crew of perceptual weekenders.
      Andromeda immediately raised the stakes, and got me invested. Also brought to the surface how little time I spent with my family.

    Ok after he said that it gave the players a chance to view through a different lense was ca complete cop-out because he knew the ending was complete B.S.
    I took his suggestion and played the game again back to back to back.
    Bottom line. Bioware wanted to get rid of Shepard and move on. They clearly didn't take into consideration fans and the connections to their Shepard and storylines. This was a cop out by him and bioware team in general.
    No wonder fans have had little interest or loyalty to the new games. Why hardcore fans are still loyal to the older ones like Mass Effect/Dragon Age.
    Mass Effect 5 needs to be more the a "homerun" as Kala likes to say. It needs to be an apology or correction.
    Not a time jump into the distance future to were non Liara supporters have to deal with her getting shoved down our throats YET AGAIN!
    I hope actually pray the new team members of the ME5 team takes the fans loyalty and hardwork they put into Mass Effect into consideration and that it was the fans that made Mass Effect so successful and what it was despite the often lack of military understanding, juvenile boys club, negative bias towards Femshep in general because Fox News fear pandering writing that in the end many of the storylines turned out to be or changed to be.
    They need to make ME5 a tribute to the fans instead of trying to cover up mistakes made in the frist 3 Mass Effects and Andromeda.
    I'm not staying that ME5 should help bridge to Ryder and Andromeda but before they do that they need to give the Shepard storyline a proper farewell as a thank you to the fans

    "With time, heals all wounds" bullshit. ME A was a subpar story with mostly forgettable side plots and characters, that's for starters. When you use that N7 marketing as a crunch until the last moment to reveal it's some john doe called Alec Ryder, when people were led instead to anticipate Shepard, that's setting up for a failure. The people who claim to love MEA and not care about the OG trilogy are the worst kind of fans a franchise could get. Good riddance to Mac Walters, he still doesn't get it or maybe he does but just doesn't want to come clean.

    • @supernova9930
      @supernova9930 7 месяцев назад +1

      The 2015 N7 ME trailer made it clear that Shepard was not coming back. But I agree with everything else. The Mac Walters forced ME3 endings was unforgivable.
