I’m an old school gamer, but it really does blow my mind how long these games take to release. Yes I realise games such as ME5, ES6 require a huge amount of work, but for there to be no material progress after what, 3 years since announcement? It’s all a bit crazy. Sure, I realise the ME situation isn’t as ridiculous as the TES situation, I believe it’s 6 or 7 years since the reveal for that one, but us long suffering gamers are the one who lose out here.
Dreadwolf, I mean *Veilguard* better hit something rather than nothing, even for new fans, as it being a success would boost ME5 right along, and hopefully we get something like the Amazon Fallout series which would help Mass Effect 5 even further.
I have a certain experience working on AAA games. I never worked for BioWare, nor ever worked on an RPG, so you have to keep that in mind - I have some, but not all the info. With that disclaimer out of the way, my guess is the game will come out in late 2028 at the latest. When people say it takes 4-5 years to make a game, they usually include pre-production. Pre-production is also work. It's where the devs take care of the stuff that needs to work before production begins. For example, if your character doesn't move properly, it will be very hard to test new level designs. The basis of combat can also be established in pre-prod, so that the QA can start testing the new enemies. What surprises me is that BioWare is advanced enough in the story and character design that they are confident enough to show us some teasers. This might have something to do with the context the company finds itself in, as Kala explained. This might also be normal for a returning franchise (I have no experience with "franchise" games). Whatever the reason is, these are important building blocks, as if BioWare was getting prepped to get the game out quickly. Here's what my guess is for the time table: as the release of Veilguard approaches, BioWare may begin to progressively move devs from DA to ME, keeping everyone they need for the Day 1 patch and whatever DLC they have planned. After the game is released and Mass Effect is ready to formally enter production, BioWare will aim to release the game in about 3 years, so 2027-28. They can always take more time if they need it, but they can't take so much time the cost outweigh the benefits. They will want to avoid the DA:TV cycle because taking this long is very expensive. That's my two cents; take that as you will.
That would honestly be kinda dumb for these games, particularly because of how many lore enthusiasts there are. One teaser video can keep content creators talking about it for months and months, making sure the games never truly leave fans minds (like jackdaw with dragon age)
My advice to gamers is this don’t dwell on it it will just frustrate you and drive you crazy forget about the now and just focus on playing other games
Better this way. There was a point 10 years ago where the studio was juggling work on swtor, mea, anthem, dai, da joplin, and the canceled shadow realms in some capacity all at once
2027 at the earliest if dreadwo- ehem veilguard does well, 2030 something at the latest, 2040 something if bioware go up in flames in the near future and some new company buys the mass effect franchise as one does or never. - conjecture concluded
Well at least we get Dragon Age now soon for the time being. I can deal with that just fine. I am a very patient person in general, thankfully. But after watching marks video I still was left with the feeling that developers and above all else, publishers, need to find a way to make development faster, which could be done by making smaller games and not always those big chunky titles and also stop trying to chase games that make ALL the money in the world, i.e. live service games. There has to be a middle ground where all parties involved can "win".
I still think 2029-2030 is likely for ME with the studio resource focus on DA. This resource focus of course is not going to automagically cease completely on release date - there will be the inevitable patching schedule, and what about potential DLC?. ME may not have 100% resources for some time yet. Switching to UE5 may being some synergies - but it will still be a new engine for existing Frostbite devs, and I am not sure it is going to result in a magical release date years earlier than anticipated.. In any event, everything crossed for a DA commercial hit to ensure ME gets the time/money it needs from the EA overlords.....
People forget anything that isnt live action (sans tons of vfx) takes years to make. Why wouldn't that be the same case for games? If we want excellence, we need to be patient. Games are becoming very cinematic and broader in scope than film or TV. I'm glad for the reality check!
"When is Mass Effect 5 Coming Out?" I very much hope at the best possible time for a game to be released: When it's finished and ready! So don't anyone dare to try putting pressure on the Bioware devs, because you struggle to find something else to do in the meantime.
I’m going to get Veilguard to support the devs and hopefully get ME5 and it looks good and the combat looks good. I also never understood why people get mad at the workers for stuff that is out of their control I don’t understand
I always assumed it was more than 2yrs away. While I do enjoy the various theory videos on RUclips, the new Mass Effect is just not something that's really on my radar. I'm more looking forward to Exodus: Become the Traveler. Not even as a replacement for Mass Effect but more of another entry into the sci fi genre.
My thing is. I don’t care to know about a game that I won’t be able to play for 6 years I would rather them work in secret for 4 years with maybe some hints here and there and when the game is a year away then announce it and so teaser trailer story trailer gameplay trailer all in that year
I care far more about ME than DA, but I'm willing to give Veilguard a try to support Bioware. I know you have played it and have your opinion, but I am very worried that it looks more like Mass Effect than Dragon Age. I hope my concerns are misplaced
Long time to create game is due to a highed graphics details and new useless technology used to make a game. But major people who play Mass Effect do not care that much about graphics, but about storytelling, disoverying new worlds etc... If new Mass Effect would be made in UE3 again I am very ok with that. Who cares if game has trilion polygons when Vacarian shoots toward enemy with Shepard !!!! This is why so many indie games are more succesufl today than triple AAA garbadges.
Assuming that Veilguard does well enough to keep BioWare from closure, I fully expect that Mass Effect 5 will be a cross-gen title for the next generation of consoles in 2029. AAA development cycles are getting extremely long; and like you said, BioWare being hit with layoffs doesn't help matters. The worst case scenario is obviously that Veilguard flops and EA closes BioWare. If that were to happen, my guess is that EA would give Mass Effect 5 to one of their other studios. At that point, it would likely be delayed quite a bit, changing it from a cross-gen release to a full-on next gen release -- meaning that Mass Effect would completely skip the PS5/Xbox Series generation. I can easily imagine a situation where two full decades have passed between the release of Mass Effect 3 and the release of its direct sequel.
@@HyouVizer I hope you're right, but I think it's very relevant. As was pointed out in the video, a publisher can only be pushed so far with a failing developer. Mass Effect: Andromeda was a middling failure and Anthem was a disaster. If Veilguard bombs as well, it might be the last straw for EA. They've already closed down BioWare Montreal (after the failure of Andromeda). I don't think it's a stretch to say that they could close down the rest of BioWare if BioWare delivers a third AAA failure in a row.
100% agree, fans need to suck it up and just enjoy what is there as they wait for development of something good. Stop whining and let them make something good instead of pressuring and forcing the execs to shove a lackluster incomplete game out.
I don’t see this game coming out. The way EA treats it studios and the way they expect profit from games, everyone who’s ever bought a dragon age game in history could preorder Veilguard and it wouldn’t be enough to match EA expectations
Wait until you are a ( much ) older gamer..these 5+ ( or 10 + for Dragon age ) years it takes to make a game is going to start irritating you...then hoping it isn't a steaming pile or mediocre when you you do finally get to play it.
It would be nice to return to the Shepard story, but his/her story is over. Mass Effect is a good franchise, but Dragon Age is much more special to me.
Let me finish my comment forget about the game for now focus on playing the games you want to play now and then when time go by and the game is getting closer to be released then get excited for when it comes out l know there is a lot of time to wait but that is just the way it is my view is the game comes out when it comes out
If had the money I would buy bioware from EA. I hate to break to people but EA has killed Bioware.I am looking forward to the Exdous. Bioware should be a warning to other game devs to stay away from companies like EA.
The devs can take as much time as they need to make sure they get the game right. I'd rather wait an extra year or two than have the next game come out as a horrible buggy mess with an unsatisfying plot

I'm sorry for saying "and" so many times, I really gotta stop doing that 😭
i havent even really noticed it😂
And the problem is…?
You did? I honestly didn't notice.
It's fine. Don't be so harsh on yourself. ❤
Your voice sounds great, carry on and don't stop.

My Guess is 2028/2029
I think 2030 is a pretty good guess.
You can also do it like Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, just announce the game just some few months before relase
That would honestly be kinda dumb for these games, particularly because of how many lore enthusiasts there are. One teaser video can keep content creators talking about it for months and months, making sure the games never truly leave fans minds (like jackdaw with dragon age)

With how long it took dragon age veilguard to come, I am VERY cynical. 5 years tops
I've given up on ME5 and I hope you cover other stuff I'm interested in. Looking forward to Exodus.

Based on the recent trailer and gameplay reveal of DA4, I'm not sure if it's ever coming out. A studio needs to exist in order to release games.

at this rate, feels like a cross gen game

I've never played a DA game but I've been an avid ME fan since the 1st game. I will definitely be buying Veilguard to support bioware!
