Definitely one of my favorite DC films. I like how it can be dark and scary, but still be funny and a nice family focused film. Plus Zachary Levi as Shazam is amazing.
I bloody loved this film. Mainly because it didn't have a big budget. It had to keep the story more grounded/simple and I think it was all the better for it. The follow up has gone the more 'throw money at the screen' approach which is probably why it didn't work so well. Sometimes 'less is more' imo.

I actually liked that we didn't get to see the face of superman in the end. It made it so that we got a superman cameo without making it a straight up cross-over. Plus no matter who will play superman in the future this movie will always be "canon", it can be in any "reboot" they may do.
i just realized the magic 8 ball and the compass are metaphors for parenting styles.. or rather "growing up" styles.. the man with the 8 ball is always looking for the easy answers and wants to be shown where to go and what he needs... the compass shows you why and how you need to get there and allows you to grow at a pace on the way TEACHES you how to navigate the world and eventually you wont need it.. even with terrible circumstances vs the best circumstances .. the compass is a better than being giving random false promises to keep you going.. even if the 8 ball gets its right its not teaching you anything
Mark 28:12. The remake of, "Bedazzled", with Elizabeth Hurley as, "The Devil", meant that the movie didn't need a personification of, "Lust". But in the original version, the now late, Raquel Welch, played the personification of, "Lust'! So I've wondered ever since I first saw this movie, who would have seen the original, "Bedazzled"? 🤔
It’s a great Shazam movie. I think it got some hate from certain fans who swear up and down that DC is a super serious superhero universe (with no jokes) but it nailed the spirit of the comics, it had a lot of heart and the family story was cute and believable. Despite the mixed reviews, I’m still looking forward to seeing the sequel
How about a reaction to WEIRD THE AL YANKOVIC STORY? Funniest movie of '22. I laughed out loud more times than watching TOMMY BOY and MEET THE PARENTS combined. 🤞✌️
Mark 7:38. Howdy! 🤠. Hmm. So, "lower budget", means something different these days, than it did in the previous century and millennium? 🤔 I guess so. The new "Doctor Who", that came out in, 2005. At first I was impressed with how much better looking it was than the older, "classic", material. Then after enough repeats and reruns, I finally saw the pattern. Sure, compared to the original era, it was more impressive, but then I saw that it was just the modern day version of, "cheap"! Then, Real Life Technology, advanced again in time to make the, Jodi Whitaker, episodes look better than anything before them! Unfortunately, without access to, "DirecTV", I lost touch with the series , so I don't know if it looks the same now, worse, or better. 🤔 However, with the now classic, "Star Trek", I'm still satisfied with how much better it looks since it was remastered, than it used to look. 🖖
This is easily my second favorite DCU film after The Suicide Squad and after seeing the second film that one became my third favorite. Wish more people were actually watching it but it seems the DC fanbase is so desperate to kill their own franchise just because they want the bloody Snyderverse all the time.

I love this movie a lot and I'm happy every time I see people giving it praise. I really love how much this stands out in a world where Marvel and DC movies seemingly only get made for 200 million dollars. Have to bring this up, Hector's in-universe criticisms of the movie were funny but also, valid asf, he brought up a few points I hadn't ever thought about before, like 21:51 and 26:22 especially. These are great points I've not heard brought up before, and it's the kind of thing I hope the new DC Studios team will be on top of. Also, circling back to budget, I think the first few new DC projects we see from the new slate will get made with much more modest budgets. I don't think some folks at Disney realize how sustainable and successful the smaller budgets could be. peace
Mark 43:25. Hmm. It never "colored" my movie experience. What changes an experience for me, is whether or not, I met the actor or actress in person. Like, with a school play. I see my classmates playing on a school stage. I don't see them as their characters! 😁. Unless make-up or Aging, has caused a big change in appearance, I'm going to from then on, see their characters as the actors and actresses, that played them. If others have played the same part too, that doubles my disbelief. It works for me the best, if I don't know them in any other capacity, or recognize them from role to role. Or I don't know who is who. Until, "Splash", I expected someone with the name, "Daryl Hannah", to be male! Like I expected for, Lea Thompson and Lee Purcell. I saw those names in credits and thought they were males. 😁
It would’ve been cooler if when Billy caught Sivana at the end he jumped off the building and transformed on the fall down. Could’ve been an epic transformation
Mark 30:05. Wow! Okay, I know that some time has elapsed between the two movies, but was the foster mother role recast, or did she get a, beauty makeover? 🤔. Now I know why the young guys to my right, were reacting as they did, in a new context. My first impression had been, that their mothers don't dress provocatively in front of them, as the foster mother does! But they may have noticed that it was a sexier actress! 😁. Meanwhile, the husband/foster father, is still the same, very overweight guy! 😁
Have to say the ableism rooted in this movie is awful. Saying that a disabled kid, unloved unwanted, can only be redeemed when they are no longer disabled, is trash. Disappointing.
Oh man if youve ever seen Lust from the Full Metal Alchemist anime, then I would def let that version do some weird stuff. Sorry hector asked for it lol. Kidding aside, great movie, and i love having the watch alongs on youtube

I love Shazam! But it’s not the best DCEU film. Man of Steel, Wonder Woman 1 The Suicide Squad even Aquaman are on par or even better. I just think personal taste and opinion on how these characters should be portrayed come into how you rank them. I love this crew, but they definitely love more comedic and colorful takes on the characters.

It’s not the best, but it’s certainly a super fun entry. Had a great time with it. Honestly, it’s a good old fashioned crowd pleaser.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the entire movie, Billy never learned the bad guy's name, did he? He never learned that his name is Sivana, right?

I started the DCEU with Shazam and it’s my favorite with what I’ve watched so far next to Man of Steel (very good origin story).
I love that it’s a kids/christmas movie ABOUT FAMILY

I wish they would’ve continued what made the first one so good in the second film. It just doesn’t capture the spark, that the first one had.
Shazam is fantastic, and Shazam 2 is just as good if not better :D
It's pretty good, but when you've read the comic and know that Sivana should have been Black Adam, you can't help but feel ripped off (thanks Dwayne).

It's really good to me. The thing that I can't handle is the bully stuff, cuz I have been bullied, and it's a pain to watch Freddy being bullied
