Will u be reacting the Conjuring series?
Fun fact Mary, the guys playing Freddy & Pedro were suppose to have been the Flash & Superman in the 2009 Justice League Mortal film that was never was to be.
Adam Brody who plays Freddie Marvel was to play the Flash.
DJ Catrona who plays Pedro Marvel was to play Superman.
I guess that's why they were cast in the film.
Shazam was underrated asf. Even the credit titlle agreed
Watch CW superman and Lois
The flash
Arrow
The scene where he's doing his villain speech but is too far away for Billy to hear him is one of my favourite jokes in any superhero movie. So good.
You also have it in Kung Fu Panda 2
@@ragebash13 Can't remember that, but it's probably great :D
@@ragebash13 ¿?
They definitely got it from Kung Fu Panda 2
It's one of the cricism of any superhero story where they're havung a conversation and they can hear each other. Lol
Freddy being the one who immediately gets flight when he normally struggles to even walk gets me every time
His best Shazam! transformation was when he jumped off the building to go back and confront his nemesis at his foster families home. His chest pushed out legs and arms back and the lightning bolt... that was the coolest transformation. You can literally see that as a comic book panel transformation.
Totally agrees with you. That transformation was my favorite since they used in trailer.
Absolutely, it's my favorite moment in the movie.
Fun Fact: The actress who plays Dr. Lynn is directors David F. Sandberg’s wife. She dies in basically all his movies lol
Fr
I mean that has to be a Funny Conversation: Hey Hone im doing a Movie and I need an Actress for a Character i need to kill off.
Interested?
That's gotta be cathartic.
So did Tim Burton with Helena Bonham Carter, until they got divorced. Might not be a good sign
Umm, I think David F. Sandberg is trying to tell his wife something through movies lol

@@TraXlem Because it's mentioned in the movie, dummy. You don't have to put it in the comments as some great revelation only you figured out and want other people to know of your brilliance.
Shall I continue, or are you gonna be civil about this?
@@TraXlem It's been known decades BEFORE the movie, so it's redundant.
I thought this whole movie was pretty darn enjoyable, but that last scene in the lunch room gets me every time 😂😳

"The Caterpillar was evil too?"
Oh you have no idea what Mr. Mind is actually capable of.
Probably my all time favorite super-villain.
Facts
he can mind control people and grow in size right?
Caterpillar Form: eats parts of your brain & Mind controls you
Butterfly Form: eats parts of your universe & ? do yo need more ?
Yeah but he's Booster Gold's villain
There must be something wrong with me because I actually love the way Dr. Sivana gets back at his Dad and Sid with all the Deadly Sins.
How could he be so savage to them? Because THEY were so savage to him.
My favourite movie of the dceu, this movie has such a heartfelt message with some of the darkest story moments, perfectly balanced.
@Abhikrishna PS it will be a little more serious than the first
Yeah after that black adam will probably be facing shazam aswell
I'm not usually a fan of DC in general but this movie was hilarious!
See, what's great about this film is it embraces the goofiness of the premise. Not every superhero story needs to be all grim grumbly men grumbling grimly, you can have some silly fun as well and there's no finer hero to do it with.
They don't call him The Big Red Cheese for nothing!
Couldn’t agree more
This movie fits in well with bvs, man of steel, snyder justice league.
Not every movie of the dceu need to be dark,
Howard the Duck.
"Shazam" is one of those really special movies, in which you go in, thinking it's not going to be all that fantastic, and then it turns out UTTERLY FANTASTIC! I love this film, both for the surprise it first had on me, and also for the fact that the humor in it, no matter how many times I watch the film, does not get old or tired.
This movie would have been right at home in the 90's, if they'd made it back then. Conversely, I also feel like it would be right at home in the year 2048 (or whatever). Both the story, and the humor, in this movie are TIMELESS! And that's what makes it special.
This was my favorite superhero movie, from the DCEU, until Zach Snyder's "Justice League" asserted itself last year.
As a VFX professional. Shazam was a turning point in my life. I got to travel to Montreal and experience -28 degrees Winters & brutal Working hours. The pace was relentless. I'm so happy to see most of my shots in this video. I'm not sure I can handle such a working environment again. It was insane.
I'm glad that Mary enjoyed this. It's more faithful to the source material than some superhero movies.
I thought the adults that played the superhero versions of the kids did a fantastic job.
I love how goofy and cheerful adult Darla was.
@@Shritistrang I’ve never seen meagan so cheerful and glee lol
21:50 She says "Run Barry run!" and now all I can think about is The Flash tv show 😂.
She said Mary not Barry
That’s exactly what I thought of too! Run, Barry and Billy! Run! 🤣
The first time I watched this movie was one of the most painful experiences of my life:
The day before I watched this movie (also the first day of spring break), my mother beat me, the first time she had ever done so. The morning after I was a nervous wreck. I practically slept with a crowbar in hand and wouldn't even leave my room. My other mother sent me to be with my best friend so I could cool down, and while I tried to enjoy my time with him, I was noticeably stiff and our conversations weren't as funny and lighthearted as they were before. He suggested we watch a movie, in this case Shazam and I said yes. It was one of the most miserable experiences I ever had, I could barely bring myself to laugh at anything because everytime I started to lose myself in the movie, I remembered what my mother had done to me. Then we got to the end of the movie with the twist of Billy's mother having been neglectful and seeing that practically broke me. I couldn't even think at that point, my movements and actions were so robotic and monotone. When I returned home to next day, I was just as much a wreck as I had been before. Worst of all, both my parents acted like nothing had happened, and even went as far as to gaslight me, claiming it had never happened. Shazam became associated with the memory of that night.
A year or two later, I tried re-watching the movie again, but this time with my little sister. Seeing my sister really laugh and enjoy it helped me to appreciate it more and associate with a pleasant memory of a movie night with her. I love this movie now, but it hit so close to home when I first watched it.
Damn… I’m really sorry you had that experience
I personally feel this movie is very underrated. It's a beautiful movie in my personal opinion.
Shazam is an acronym for all the powerful entities Billy gains his powers from, *Solomon's* wisdom, *Hercules'* strength, *Atlas'* stamina, *Zeus'* power, *Achilles'* courage and *Mercury's* speed.
Also, the wizard lives in the Rock of Eternity, which is at the centre of the DC multiverse, one in each multiverse to be precise.
If anyone's seen the film they already know this.
Did you know that SHAZAM is a DC character?
@@kiillabytez wow, your super power is trolling!
A family of Shazam 😃😃😃😃. You ain't got to share the same genes to be family.
Another way to put it is that friends are family who choose each other.
Shazamily!
...I'll see myself out.
**Fast and furious intensifies**
When I saw this in theaters the first time, the moment where Billy shared his power and activated the Shazam Family, the entire audience stood up and cheered.
Awesome react Mary! I loved Shazam when I saw it in the theater with my son. We laughed, teared up,
laughed some more. It was great for all the reasons you stated!
Keep up the awesome work, stay safe.

The Foster parents have a great way of looking at it. "It isn't home until they call it one" I love how its a superhero movie where for most of it he is just messing around with his powers
I love Shazam so much and it's also my favourite DCEU movie. I used to work with quite a few foster youth and the foster/adoption storyline really touched my heart. When Billy decided to lead the all hands on deck at the end, I was also very emotional too.
"The caterpillar is gone" words of unknown terror...
Very little does she know
THE caterpillar
The Champion that the Wizards chose recklessly is Rock's Black Adam. He's gonna appear in his own solo movie, before Shazam : Fury of the Gods.
In the comics, Mary is Billy’s biological sister.
In either format, she's also biologically HOT! (at least I think so...)
@@jacob4920 my man she’s a minor in this movie lmfao
@@htmn4712 Oh please. Two things, mister "police:"
1. In this film, she's applying to COLLEGE. That makes her no younger than 17. So she's a minor, but only JUST a minor.
2. The actress who plays her is most certainly older than that. Especially now, three years after the movie was filmed. I'm not in love with the fictional character. I'm in love with the ACTRESS. Big huge difference. Not everybody on the internet is a dirtbag.
@@htmn4712 I think he was talking about the actress that plays Mary. Plus in the actual character, she’s applying for comic college so she’s no younger than 17. She’s probably 18.
And when she becomes a super form, the actress that plays that is certainly much older. I don’t think he meant it in a perverted way.
The age of consent is also 17 or younger in many parts of the world and some US states.
“Is he going to save him?” Of course he’s going to save him he’s a superhero😂
This is one of my favorite D.C. films. It's got a lot of humor and a lot of heart. You don't find that a lot in most superhero movies. It's also just about perfectly cast. Wonderful movie.
this honestly might be the best DCEU movie
🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🖕
Legend has it that Elvis Presley was an enormous fan Captain Marvel Jr. (Freddie) fan and based his 70s era look on his outfit.
Been wanting this one for awhile. It’s one of my personal favorite movies.
It IS more passable than any of the other DC movies.
Fun fact: Mark Strong who plays Sivana was Sinestro in Green Lantern.
Also, the adoptive dad is played by my favorite "Walking Dead" star, Cooper.
I always forget how much I love this movie! Such a good, feel good movie!
My favorite part is when he tells his sibling to say his name and they all yell “BILLY!”
The caterpillar is a supervillain named Mr. Mind and he's actually one of the more powerful DC villains.
Interesting fact about Freddie's Superhero form, if you notice he's got a haircut similar to Elvis. Now, way back in 1940, SHAZAM was known as Captain Marvel, long before Marvel Comics had their version of Captain Marvel, had he was called this well into the 2000's before DC Comics changed his name to SHAZAM to avoid confusion between their version and Marvel's version of the character. Anyway, back when SHAZAM was still called Captain Marvel, Mary and Freddie were also superheroes named Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel Jr. respectively and Captain Marvel Jr. has his own series of comics which Elvis Presley was apparently a huge fan of and had actually modelled his hair and aspects of the original character's costume into his own stage costume, notably the half-cape and the TCB logo modelled after the lightning bolt .
The caterpillar in the end credits was Mr. Mind, the 3rd most intelligent character in the DC multiverse. Also, SHAZAM stands for the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles, and the speed of Mercury.
it’s kinda funny how they use the roman names of gods for some of them, but the greek names for others
@@liaaaaaaur And they threw in Solomon (not a god, not Greek or Roman) as well. But you gotta do what you gotta do to make the acronym work.
The acronym still only really makes sense in English or some languages that use the same alphabet though. His original name couldn't have been the same thousands of years ago.
Who are the first two smartest?
Mark Strong, who plays Dr. Sivana, also was the crime boss in Kickass, a green lantern in the movie of that title, and an evil prince in the fantasy movie Stardust.
Also of note: John Glover, Sivana's father's actor has been the father of a bald DC villain before, playing Lex Luthor's father Lionel in Smallville.
Truly a man who walks between worlds.
@@GriffinPilgrim He played an interesting character in that series who wasn't present in the comics when I was reading and collecting them from the '60s through the '80s.
@@jeffthompson9622 Yeah, I think Lex's father was mentioned a few times and generally implied to have been a nasty piece of work but I don't think they ever went into any details. The screwed up father/son dynamic was one of the best things in the show.
He is also head of technology for Kingsmen movies, good guy this time
The caterpillar is Mr. Mind, an extradimensional alien, one of the most intelligent villains in the DC universe, with telepathic powers. Your goal is to dominate and perhaps consume reality.
I still think that mr mind use his telepathy on young sivana to make him obsess with returning in the rock of eternity
Faith Herman still steals my heart every time I watch shazam .. my favorite parts of shazam is Darla talking to santa clause , sivanna giving his evil speech to Billy and he is too far away to hear him , and santa clause cussing the news how excited he was . I hope the second movie comes soon cause I legit miss this super hero family.
The disabled kid is played by Jack Dylan Grazer best known as Eddie Kaspbrak in IT chapters 1&2.
Bruce Wayne had an affair with Billy's mother, that's why he's called 'Batson'!
I laughed way too hard at this. Nice dad joke 🤣
I see what you did there.
I absolutely loved it when he was testing out his new powers and then in the end turned all of his friends into superheroes what an awesomely funny film.
How fun was that! Thanks Mary!
The foster dad also plays Jerry on the walking dead!! A very cool and awesome character!!
The reason billy couldn’t find his mom was because he didn’t know her first name so hes going based off last names alone
What!?! Did you not watch the movie at all? She returned to using her maiden name, not her married name, which Billy wouldn't have known.
LMFAO. Seriously?
@@IrugaZERO did you know your mother’s first name when you were, what was Billy when he got lost, maybe five at the most? Don’t want to be mean but that’s the reason he went through so many Batsons in Philly, for a decade too when he was a child. It’s a second big reason behind the maiden name part.
@@Andrew.Grabowski I know you think you've cracked the case here, but you've clearly missed the point I was trying to make and also didn't watch the movie close enough!
@@IrugaZERO someone’s obviously bitter and it isn’t me.

Fun fact: That's actually the directors wife Lotta Losten who played as Dr. Lynn Crosby.
Your laugh is the best!!🤣😂🙌🏽 GREAT REACTION😃👍🏽
Glad you enjoyed this! My favorite DC movie!
The caterpillar is Mister Mind, whose intellect is enormous.
If you were particularly eagle-eyed, you may have noticed him living in a glass jar within the Rock of Eternity near the beginning of the movie. Then after Sivana and the seven sins teamed up, he managed to escape. When Billy first arrived the glass was broken. He eventually finds his way into Sivana's prison cell at the very end of the film, ready to carry out his sinister plan!
"lay your hands on my staff.... SPEAK MY NAME!". I saw your eyes when they said that!
Very cool you were able to post this after dying of laughter.
Right on Mary. The movie was Aces!
Great reaction, I love it 😊😂
Fun facts. 1. The movie was filmed in Toronto, Canada 2. Shazam/Billy was played by Zachary Levi (Chuck, also played Fandral one of Thor's battle friends in Dark World and Ragnarok) 3. The TV series Chuck also stars the australian Yvonne Strahovski 4. Subway scenes are from from a misused subway station (Lower Bay) which has been used in the pas to film other famous subway scenes like Resident Evil: Retribution, The taking of Pelham 123 and Suicide Squad.
I've been looking forward to this
"Hands, lightning from my hands"...and i'm dead
Billy's mother may be the most evil person in the DC Universe.
Other than WB.
I won't approve of her choice, but she was honest enough with herself to recognize she would make a lousy mother.
Every parent is afraid of being a parent. Most of them don’t abandon their kids.
She evil for giving Billy a better life??
funniest moment,, all hands on deck, say my name. All: "Billy".
This one was a unexpected surprise for me when I saw it in theaters
Great reaction. This is definitely one of the best DCEU movies, right up there with Aquaman and the first Wonder Woman movie and maybe even surpassing them.
Is this little boy gonna be Shazam? Or is Shazam gonna save him right now?
No and No.
Really looking forward to Black Adam - Dwayne Johnson was perfect casting choice and I hear he's been a big part of getting the movie into Production.
It better be good
Thoroughly enjoyed your review. FYI: Shazam is an acronym for Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury. The Wizard provided him the attributes of these six elders.
What always got me, in the comics Freddy had to say Captain Marvel to transform into Captain Marvel Jr. The only hero that could never say his own name. 🤣🤣
27:46 oh yeah the caterpillar is evil! That's Mister Mind, one of Shazam's oldest enemies alongside Dr. Sivana and Black Adam (The Rock's character in the upcoming self-titled 2022 film). He may be a little worm but he's got a genius level intellect! Sivana and Mister Mind have had some epic team-ups in the comics over the years!
Director David F. Sandberg directed Lights Out and Annabelle Creation.
Fun reaction M!
I think the scene where he meets is mom is more heart breaking than you realize.
He went there to ditch his foster family. Then his mom told him that she it wasn't a good time for her to have him back in her life. Then with guilt she said that he seems fine and that he landed on his feet. Then Billy didn't want to worry his mother or guilt trio her. So he half lied and said how he's doing great and has a family now. In reality that's not what he wanted most, but that's all he has now.
Yes! The shirt! Haha great reaction yet again Mary
I'm so happy when see mary laugh so hard 😁
There is a cut scene on the Blu Ray where they all are sitting down on their chairs in the lair, and notice there is a 7th chair. They say I wonder if he is a nice guy. That is Black Adam of course.
Mary Cherry this is one of my favorite Superhero movies too!! Oh wait... Time to go SHAZAM!!
Shazam was really amazing.. and as usual, ur reaction was epic too. Too good..
Right at the time, when we think, that he actually is going to do something, Shazam does something else, especially where we would feel that he was actually tempted to put the demon ball inside of him. And yeah, Darla was soooo cute, agreed.
I’m from Philadelphia so I got a kick out of all the location shots and use of SEPTA public transportation (for the record SEPTA trains getting diverted into magical realms or buses being caught up in super powered shenanigans would be an improvement over what passengers have to deal with sometimes 😂)
In the outskirts of Philly myself, I feel your pain! lol But, also loved the shots of Philly, especially good 'ol Billy Penn!
Seth Cohen as Freddy is the best casting from any DCEU movie to be honest lol.
Agreed. Kid makes this film.
Adam Brody should get more roles
YES THAT IS SUPERMAN AT THE END!
Thanos and Darkseid: We are both the greatest supervillians ever!!!
Billy's Mom: Hold my Compass
Yeah, this was a very good movie. Heartwarming, fun, and funny. Loved getting to see the whole Shazam family. They're already working on the sequel, Shazam: Fury of the Gods. Can't wait for that one.
I wish they could've at least gotten Henry Cavill to record a voice clip, like "Hey Freddy". Would've made that ending so much cooler. :)
I died at 14:03 because an ad was so perfectly placed right as the lightning bolt struck
Did you know that Shazams original name was Captain Marvel before Marvel had a Captain Marvel?
I really like this film, it's really fun. My biggest problem is Shazam and Billy don't seem to be the same person, with Shazam being light hearted and Billy being a little dark. My head cannon around this tho is the wisdom of Solomon changing his out look.
I loved this ❤️
Originally, Shazam was called *Captain Marvel* and was not owned by DC, decades back he was created by a different comic industry to compete with Superman, but DC bought the right to the character in a copyright lawsuit, he was renamed into Shazam for the last decade to not be confused with Marvel's two Captain Marvel,s
Month late, but David F. Sandberg is a popular horror filmmaker who's made Lights Out (based on his shirt film on RUclips) and Anabelle: Creation. He is a student of James Wan (who did The Conjuring and the first Anabelle). Both Aquaman and SHAZAM! also have Anabelle easter eggs.
The composer, Benjamin Wallfisch, also worked on Anabelle: Creation with David.
This is David's first big budget studio film.
Glad you liked it!
Right, my two cents. Times a lot.
1. The boardroom massacre is a brilliant scene! It establishes Sivana's disregard for innocent life, while ALSO being a little cathartic seeing his abusive family get retribution.
2. The Mother is a character you both hate and sympathize with. Hate for what she did, and how she did it, but sympathetic because she was in such a difficult situation.
3. The other 7 powers are clearly stronger than Billy's, but ballanced by each of them only having access to ONE power.
4. The caterpillar is "Mr. Mind," a popular and recurring villain for Shazam in the comics.
Great reaction. One of my favorite films too. I like to imagine exploring the lair (Rock of Eternity) There must be so much there. Thanks.
As someone who said they watched Smallville, I'm guessing she didn't recognize the actor who played Lionel Luthor, Lex's dad, in this.
I like your shirt Mary. Looks like abstract art
Yes I loved this when I saw it at the cinema it didn't take a lot of money when it came out so Warner Brothers haven't rushed the sequel,I'm glad you enjoyed it.
