There's something really pure about these reactions, I wish I could come into these films with no real prior knowledge about their comic origins and just enjoy watching them like you do!
And if there had been they would have joined in. It's interesting how clueless Americans are when it comes to fascism, in their country, if your "police" are ordered to kill civilians, they won't hesitate.
"Can't believe Hydras been hiding in shield all this time" that was kind of the main message of this movie. The thing about nazisim is that it never truely dies, it hides beneath the surface and rebrands. Thats why I loved this movie so much. Its showed captain America doing what he does best with a clear message for viewers. EPIC!
Not sure if that's the main message of the movie. There are other issues addressed such as threat prevention and loss of traditional values (a world of spies results in a world of dishonesty).
Natasha and Steve have the most chemistry of any two people in the MCU. How much Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson like each other really comes through.

Chris Evans and Scarlett Johannson plaed in 2 movies together before the Avengers MCU movies. The Perfect Score (2004) and The Nanny Dairies (2007). So, their onscreen chemistry goes back before these films.
Yeah, and you can really see the comfort they have together as performers. They're close friends off-screen as well, and it shows in their performances together.
"Captain" is the rank that he holds in the Army. He's not just Captain America, he's also Captain Steve Rogers. "Black Widow", by comparison, is *not* a rank. :)
First one wasn’t close to a classic war movie. They skipped the war. No shots of him joining the major historical operations and actually see a war movie.
For me, the saddest moment is a toss up between that and Civil War, when Steve is struggling to carry her coffin, even though he has superhuman strength.
He appears as a doctor again in Civil War, and in Endgame as one of the people in Steve's grief counselling group, he talks about crying on his first date since his husband was snapped.
When you reflect on this movie Steve's story becomes even more poignant. Remember that he is a man who is all alone in the future. Peggy has lived her life and Bucky is the last thread Steve has to his home and his past. In the end he gave up everything for his values and was willing to die at the hands of Bucky than call him an enemy. I feel for him falling off the carrier and can't help but think he was ready to surrender his life without a struggle - a man of principle to the very end.
And I always put it into perspective by reminding myself that he crashed into the ice less than a year ago in his personal timeline. He was fighting Hydra in the 1940’s a few months back, now he’s processing everyone he loved being dead or dying, fighting aliens, and learning that his battle against Hydra was in vane in the 20-teens! That’s a mind fuck if ever there was one!
Mary: “Captain America is probably my favorite…” Me: “This is the way.” Winter Soldier is my favorite MCU film. Love it every time I see it. Great reaction!
I always liked that instead of just casting an old woman, they got the same actress that played Peggy, Haley Atwell, to come back and aged her so it still feels like Peggy.
I remember what I thought when I saw this in the theater: "Marvel has changed the game." This wasn't just a superhero action movie, it's a tense, paranoid 1970s-style political thriller. It was audacious and intelligent, and it represented a change in how Marvel made movies. After CA: WS, each movie works in a different genre than others in the series. There is sci-fi action, family drama, family comedy, sci fi buddy comedy, psychedelic trippiness, a movie that's essentially about divorce, and more. Most movies tend to push things in a different direction than any MCU movie that came before, and it all started with this one.
Notice Mary how when Fury gets shot, the person on the phone says "Do we have eyes on the shooter?" even though nobody said he was shot. They had his assassination planned all along.
Well agent 13 said that Fury was down so I'm sure the radio man had to know that only way to take Fury down was by shooting and not someone walked up to him and punched him...we all know fury would give anyone on the street them hands especially when he's the top boss u know he's skilled

What I really love is that Cap ends up forming a team. Widow, Falcon, Hill, Fury, Agent 13. He's a born leader. The first Avenger. The cover title of Cap's comic book was "Captain America & The Falcon" for almost 100 issues. He has always worked best as part of a team.
Winter Soldier is my favorite MCU movie hands down. The action and fight choreography was 10/10. Sebastian Stan was amazing as Bucky/The Winter Soldier.
The first Cap film was about the shield as a defensive style. This film was them trying to make it a more offensive style which I think was a fantastic decision.

5:34 The computer in the car just said that there *aren't* any police units in the area. Which means those aren't actually police officers. They were Hydra's.
I was in the IMAX when I saw it. Bucky gets revealed, all quiet. Then a little girl whispers to her dad "Who is that?" The dad replies "Do you remember his best friend who died in the first movie?" Big audible gasp from the little girl. 😄
Second time I watched, in the stunned audience silence after the mask falls, adult several rows in front of me said "Who's that?" loud enough for most of the audience to hear.
Nope, I noticed it too immediately. It still freaks me out, because there are instances where you notice that it's just a different face over hers. It's like a scene from Exorcist. Freaky!
Aspects of this movie are similar to Three Days of the Condor, about a CIA analyst on the run from the agency. The CIA analyst was played by Robert Redford, hence why they got him to play Pierce.
Your reaction to the Bucky reveal, his brainwashing/torture scene, and the final Bucky v. Cap fight were so very similar to mine. I also had chills. This is one of my top favorite MCU movies. So many good action scenes and plot twists.
@@MaryCherryOfficial dont worry, by the time Winter Soldier came out everyone knew that Coulson was alive. They brought him back in the first episode of the Agents of SHIELD TV show, even in the trailers for it. Its not supposed to be a hidden secret
When Natasha says "Who do you want me to be?" It actually makes me very sad for her, I know people that are overly adaptive to the people they talk to, and they don't get to even become their own identity. I always work to try to help them find themselves =/
Thanks, Mary! I so wanted to give you a hint that we'd see 'Bucky' again after the first one... but your reaction to the revelation was priceless. There will be more pleasant surprises in coming installments! ❄️
Ryan, if you are a fan of Agents of Shield, Elizabeth Henstridge has a channel on RUclips. Every week, she has guests from the show and/or the technical people behind the camera. She also does a watch along of an episode that you can watch with her and her guests in real time if you have Netflix. She's going through the entire series and is still on Season 1
Your reactions are always the best. You get invested in the story and care about the characters. Makes for a much more genuine reaction. Lots of people just sit through movies with a camera on, but you're actually reacting to it. Love the content, Mary.
The song playing in Cap's apartment when Fury is there. Such a tiny detail that comes to mean something years later. I just can't with the awesomeness of Marvel sometimes.
This was a very special reaction in that you not only enjoyed the movie, but you honestly didn't know that Bucky was the Winter Soldier. Of course all the comic fans who saw this in the theater knew the big reveal, but this is the age of endless movie speculation. Even the most casual fans are exposed to months of endless speculation before these big movies come out. Watching you react not having any idea what is going to happen is, like I say, a very special treat. Kudos!
Winter Soldier = Cold Warrior (the Cold war was the frigid relations US and Russia had during the Soviet era) Plus if your shipping Steve and Natasha, they got married (and had a kid) In the cartoon "Avengers: Next"
This is one of my favorite MCU movies for sure! The whole movie has the feel of a 70's conspiracy thriller. (It's one of the things that can be fun about the super-hero genre - it can accommodate a lot of different types of films.) In the wake of the Watergate scandal in 1972, (where the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate hotel were broken into eventually leading to President Nixon resigning) there were a number of movies centered around the idea of vast government conspiracies. Robert Redford himself starred in a few himself - like "Three Days of the Condor" about a low level CIA operative who suddenly finds himself involved in a secret government plot and "All the President's Men" were he played Bob Woodward, one of the primary reporters who uncovered the Watergate scandal. So, it was quite clever to cast Redford as the bad guy Alexander Pierce. Also, in some of the shots of the SHIELD headquarters building, in the background you can see the actual Watergate Hotel where the break-ins occurred.
@@Lurch685 Have you revisited the 1987 series recently? You'd need some thick nostalgia goggles to say that show holds up past maybe the first five episodes. The theme song for the first few seasons is dope, though, can't deny that. But the 2003 series, at least the first four seasons (I'll give you that it falls apart in season 5), is a far better show. Hell, even the 2012 show had more to offer, story-wise, than the "mostly just bad jokes about turtle soup and pizza toppings" version. The 1990 Steve Barron movie, on the other hand, mostly holds up. The sequels, not so much.
I'm actually really glad they didn't do a Captain America/Black Widow relationship in the movies. There aren't enough action movies that feature male-female friendships without hinting that they'll end up together. That was really refreshing for me.

@@Crilyte She already said she won't see it because she's been spoiled some stuff. I'm just trying to generate intrest by selling the premise of the show in its post-Winter Soldier era.
5:34 The computer in the car just said that there *aren't* any police units in the area. Which means those aren't actually police officers. They were Hydra's.
It wasn't 95 years 95 years is how old Steve is in this movie
I was in the IMAX when I saw it. Bucky gets revealed, all quiet.
Then a little girl whispers to her dad "Who is that?"
The dad replies "Do you remember his best friend who died in the first movie?"
Big audible gasp from the little girl.
😄
Second time I watched, in the stunned audience silence after the mask falls, adult several rows in front of me said "Who's that?" loud enough for most of the audience to hear.
"Natasha, what's your status?"
"Single"
I'm dead. 😂
Fury: «Last time I trusted someone I lost my eye»
Me: (-_-)
I'm surprised that Mary was able to notice the CGI used to make Hayley Atwell look older
I didn't know it was CGI till today
@@aakashsaini2526 if she was able to notice the good CGI, then she will notice the bad CGI used for de-aging in the next installments
Nope, I noticed it too immediately. It still freaks me out, because there are instances where you notice that it's just a different face over hers. It's like a scene from Exorcist. Freaky!
I mean it looks pretty outdated, especially compared to today's standards.
Aspects of this movie are similar to Three Days of the Condor, about a CIA analyst on the run from the agency. The CIA analyst was played by Robert Redford, hence why they got him to play Pierce.
The fan fiction exploded after this movie came out.
Mary references TMNT: Awesome
She hums the 2003 intro theme: God I'm old.
Possibly best MCU movie? Russo brothers changed everything- also first person ive seen who didn't know WS was bucky
Your reaction to the Bucky reveal, his brainwashing/torture scene, and the final Bucky v. Cap fight were so very similar to mine. I also had chills. This is one of my top favorite MCU movies. So many good action scenes and plot twists.
"Who's gonna take over S.H.I.E.L.D. now? Can't imagine anyone" Phil Coulson sends his regards
That's classified.
yet another spoiler. why dude?
If you want the ins & outs with Shield, definitely should watch Agents of Shield. Fantastic show with a great cast.
@@clash5j Yeah, I love her channel. She's a lot of fun.
@@jean-paulaudette9246 She seems super nice
@@clash5j Yeah I'm aware thank you very much though :D
Your reactions are always the best. You get invested in the story and care about the characters. Makes for a much more genuine reaction. Lots of people just sit through movies with a camera on, but you're actually reacting to it. Love the content, Mary.
The song playing in Cap's apartment when Fury is there. Such a tiny detail that comes to mean something years later. I just can't with the awesomeness of Marvel sometimes.
This is my favorite MCU movie "cus I'm with you till the end of the line" followed by tears
I’m really interested to see how you’ll react to the more heavy MCU films after Cap 2 and Thor 2 if those films got you so emotionally invested.
This was still my fav MCU movie upto date.
Kudos!
Natasha and Steve @ each other
“They require a better person than I.”
(It's one of the things that can be fun about the super-hero genre - it can accommodate a lot of different types of films.)
In the wake of the Watergate scandal in 1972, (where the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate hotel were broken into eventually leading to President Nixon resigning) there were a number of movies centered around the idea of vast government conspiracies.
“Woah. Like marketing companies”🤣🤣
Imagine if matchmaker Natasha asked Steve “What about Mary, the girl who does reactions from Sydney?” 😄😉🇦🇺
The fact that you went with the 2003 Ninja Turtles theme song instead of any of the others made me love you just a bit.....
Best version of them no doubt.
@@marclewis5505 Outside of the comics, 100% agree.
"Natasha, what's your status?"
"Single" 😂
She references and quotes Star Wars, How I Met Your Mother and Community. I freaking love this woman.
You are in for a treat in the next Avengers film 😉
I can see you’re a fan of the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.
2003? Try 1990s
@@Lurch685 Ok but the theme she was singing was from the 2003-2009 series.
@@SDfan2002 I know. The original was so much better. You kids and your terrible reboots lol
@@Lurch685 You call the 2003 reboot terrible?
It followed the comics a LOT more than that 80s tv show did.
That I love Lucy reference aged so well.
