Everyone gets a moment; Jaime gets to be the hero and grows. Everyone supports him builds him up while not making him look incompetent or belittling him. All the women are strong and emotionally supportive. As a Latino man this felt like my family which was great.
This movie is so beautiful, and even though it goes by the "comic book movie formula" when it comes to sympathetic villains and whatnot, the heart at the core of this movie is what makes it stand out for me. Even Abuelita got a minute to shine during the last act. It's great to see the way this family fights for one another, all while still having those comedic moments to help levitate the drama and the action. It's beautiful.

The afterlife scene is so impactful and definitely made me cry. It's also a great call back to the first Mexican film nominated for the Academy Awards, "Macario", with the endless candles, as well as a nod to Dia de Los Muertos
Dude. You have no idea how much I cried REWATCHING this movie in theaters. Not because it was sad (even though it had its moments) but because if you like Spider-Man mythos well you got a different version of him. AND IT WAS GOOD!
It'll definitely have one down the line or at least be integrated in other upcoming projects since Gunn considers this character to be part of his DCU.
The first time I watched this, I quietly cried in the dark bc I slept over at my sister’s and she was asleep on the next bed over. I later watched it with my Mexican family for thanksgiving dinner and we *all* cried. My immigrant brother and sister, both of my high schooler nephews, and ofc me, a first gen Mexican American. Ngl, on my first watch I teared up at the *opening* *credits* lmaoo just seeing so many Hispanic names did it 😭
Angel Manuel Soto (possibly a Top 10 Most Boriqua Name on the planet) really laced this with relevant Latinx history. The music (Calle 13), the villain's history in indigenous Guatemala (pretty sure his mother was speaking kich'e or nahuatl in the flashback), casting the female lead of Predator as Jaime's mother, School of the Americas (got an audible hiss in the Queens theater I was in), Maria del Barrio (huge laughs), the Don Q on the table at the dinner party, El Morro is absolutely the inspiration for the island fortress, y El Chapulin....and it's also funny to try and pinpoint when - and where - abuela's revolutionary past could have been set (Zapatistas from 30 years ago with Subcomandante Marcos in Mexico????).
Definitely could relate. As I got older, I learned things about and FROM my abuelita's past that left me speechless, but I understood the presence of a lot of "characters" around the family house back in the day 😲
In the early trailers, he called him "cabrón", but I think the producers didn't like hearing "cabrón" throughout the movie and replaced it with "cabezón" 😆 Weird, because there were harder Spanish phrases said in the movie.
Best DC movie of 2023, best live action CBM of 2023, best superhero movie that has shown the best Latino representation overall, and one of the best CBMS overall. It is such a huge crime this movie never got the box office and recognition it deserved. We finally got a movie that doesn’t show Latinos as stereotypes, the background characters, and/or the sidekicks to white people and it was all directed and written by Latinos.👍🏼 I know Marvel will apparently give us their first Latino-led movie with The Fantastic Four due to Pedro as Reed. While it is a step in the right direction, it’s still not enough since we deserve an MCU movie about an actual Latino superhero that’s akin to this with not only a Latino lead, but an all-Latino cast and written and directed by Latinos.
So happy y'all saw this movie, its truly incredible. Jaime's family really got me in the feels, I swear the amount of times I've cried throughout the movie. Can't wait to see more of Jaime in the future ❤
Not just a flip when he's fighting with the sword - he's basically got the Buster Sword from Final Fantasy 7 and he does Cloud's Braver attack. Such a good nod.
Thanks guys for reviewing boo beetle. Now you guys got me want to go back to watch the show again because how much fun you guys had watching it and how much fun I had watching it with you so thanks.
This movie came out two months after the theater I worked at closed down, but I managed to grab two versions of the movie poster. I cried a few times watching this movie and I really hope we get to see Jaime and his family in future movies. The way each family member was written and how their dynamics were portrayed really makes you attach to them quickly.
I am glad I am not the only one under 65 years old that hates watching good content on their phone...Oled screens have gotten massive and beautiful and everyone watches stuff on a screen the size of a postage stamp...
Your reaction was so awesome and its so good to see Agustin having time of his life watching this movie. I too loved this movie when I watched it the first time.
My family and I watched this and as Latinos we were so proud of this movie and it makes me sad that it didn’t get the love it deserved in theaters. I took my son to see this in theaters abad it was great moment to share.
It makes me SO SAD that the flash gets so much hate. I have my gripes but i think its so much better than its given credit for! But as for blue beetle i completely agree its a great movie and xolo absolutely killed it
Agreed 100%. Love both movies, but sadly I think outside factors colored people’s opinions of The Flash because nothing about it stands out as bad. The worst things about Blue Beetle (Victoria Kord, borrowing heavily from Iron Man) are more egregious than the worst things in Flash. The only major difference is that BB is a much more joyful movie.
I think the flash and blue beetle are a subject of times, both had bad timing. Both couldn't do press for different reasons. I feel if there was no strike and DCEU wasn't ending Blue beetle would have been highly successful.
This movie is a ton of fun and I was surprised how shockingly political parts of it are. the moment that had me going “Oh they are going there” is when they said Carapax was trained at the School of the Americas, which is a real-life notorious place where the US government trained South American and Central American torturers and dictators. This is one of the times the “villain and the hero have the same powers” I think it works because it draws parallels between the two characters which I feel was why Carapax ultimately did what he did. We have this young Latino/Indigenous person being turned into a weapon of American imperialism and once he sees it starting again with Jaime and Jaime shows him mercy he decides to break the cycle Combine that with Jaime’s grandmother maybe being a Zapatista or some other leftist Mexican guerrilla, and this movie had a political streak I was not expecting and I think went over done people's heads
So glad this was just posted! Such an underrated movie with a great Latin American soundrack! "Nada Personal" during the credits is the cherry on top! I was bummed the strike affected this movie from getting more exposure. Side note, every Mexican has a version of "Uncle Rudy" lol Mine is my "Tío Tatú", same vibes, always shaming you and everyone in the family in public in a lovable way, but always got your back no matter what! 😆 So true about the similarities with Ms. Marvel. It sucks that Marvel didn't do this first with the Hispanic family dynamics.
@@thejediofuspartii538 Namor is pre-Hispanic/pre-conquest, but I'll take it. I was talking about the contemporary Hispanic family like Blue Beetle masterfully did (as did Ms. Marvel with the Pakistani-American dynamics)
@@djoscartj A Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider movie could be the opposite with it focusing on his positive relationship with his younger brother and his negative relationship with his uncle which would make it feel more personal.
7:5957:22 I believe it's been confirmed that Xolo Maridueña will continue to play Blue Beetle in the new DCU, but I'm curious what they'll do w/ his character (i.e. will it be a continuation from this film or will he be playing a new version of the character?).
Such a great film and reaction! My dad and I saw this in theaters, but our projector cut off half way through the film, which upsets us because we really enjoyed it. This is really good, I need more Blue Beetle!
lol the intro is so funny. As a black man here in the US, when I went to the theatres and seen all Latino/spanish families and see their joy and them enjoying cultural jokes, I had a moment of “ oh is this what black panther was like for other people” 😂
This movie was very underrated and yes it’s probably one of the best DCEU movies and my favorite one! Not just because of me being a Mexican American but the depth and feeling they put into this movie. If I’m not mistaken, I believe this movie will tie to the first DC movies in the future from what James Gunn says. I could be mistaken but I’m pretty sure. Oh yes, after the video, I went to go buy the movie just to support the Latino community and for the love of the movie.
Blue Beetle its a great film..so underated..best DC movie since Joker.. its a pity it got lost with the other DC crapfest of last year..it deserved better..people should never judge a comic book adaptation by its cover....Glad u enjoyed it as much as me, the comedy, the emotion, the action, the cgi and the family that u actually believe is a real family..ok Susans character wasnt that original but Carapax and his arc made up for it..movie is too good..i have seen like 3 times already...I dont know why but being Irish i feel a kinship with people that have had tough histories and so forth...i had a smile on my face leaving the cinema...
I have loved the blue beetle story line since I was introduced to it in the justice league cartoon growing up. I couldn’t wait to see this in the cinemas when the trailer came out. Say glad you guys made this reaction 😊
love this reaction, guys, I'm glad you were able to see it on the channel. At 35:52 when Jaime? Rudy? goes "pen*dejos".. those soldiers would have been mocked without mercy in my town for turning around when being addressed like that "eeeee voltearon, mensos"
Saw this in the theater with familia, the whole audience was hyped and cracking up at all the references and of course abuelita stole the show! If I had to settle, I would even be hyped for an animated series with all these actors voicing the characters. 😎👍
I BOUGHT IT ON BLU RAY. Okay now that that is out of the way, this was a great movie. I wish I had gone to see it in theaters, and supported it. I honestly thought it would suck because of the box office.
One of the coolest things is that it was a Puerto Rican that directed the movie but made sure it was accurate when presenting mexican and latino culture.
Seeing the movie again through your eyes has given me a greater appreciation for it. When I first saw it, I thought it was just ok. I liked the family stuff in the first half, but never liked the villain or the ending. But seeing from another perspective helped me see things I didn’t catch the first time and understand the movie better. Thank you.

"In September 2023., Gunn reiterated that Maridueña would continue to play Reyes in the DCU, and clarified that any DC media released before the first projects for the DCU in 2024 would not be canon to that franchise." So Blue Beetle lives :)
This movie needs to have a sequel. I need to see more of this family and more of Bruna Marquezine in DC movies. As a Latina and an immigrant, I can definitely say that this movie hits different
Family was a luxury I didn’t have so the core of this movie didn’t really resonate with me. I loved seeing it through your eyes. I missed out on a lot. I had been on my own from my teens. As soon as they found out I was gay, I was an outcast except for my dad who always had my back. Now I’m in my 60’s and it’s just me and my dad (92) drinking coffee and making faces at each other. As long as I’m here with him, my siblings keep a distance. Fine with us. This movie was for you what Nimona is for me.
Harvey Guillen is also the voice of Nightwing in the Harley Quinn show. Honestly the only problem i have with this movie is that I wish they hadn't done the female voice for Khaji. Reminded me too much of the AI from MCU Spidey's suit. I liked what they did in young justice, with the Scarab being voiced by Jaime's voice actor.
10:0321:19 Ngl, the Blue Beetle suit reminds me of Big Chill from Ben 10: Alien Force lol. 38:09 Also, I know it's done w/ practical effects, but it kinda reminds me of the CGI from Ben 10: Race Against Time tbh.
I am begging for Jaime to be in Peacemaker season 2. All I want is Peacemaker sitting down at the Reyes family dinner table. Also George Lopez EAAAATS this role up
Saving this reaction video for the weekend but man i couldn’t wait for you guys to react to this. I genuinely cried & felt more connected to these characters than any superhero movie has ever made me feel. Spiderverse is definitely number 2 but mann this movie is amazing
I loved Jaime so I watched this on opening day, then went and rewatched it, and then rewatched once it came to streaming. I love this movie and Xolo as Jaime. Y’all should react to Young Justice animated show if you haven’t already. It’s so good and Blue Beetle has a whole storyline in s2. Also I believe James Gunn has said that this whole cast will continue in the new DCU
Blue Beetle and Peacemaker - two characters that came to DC through the Charlton putchase. And handled beautifully in the movies and TV show - they're being rebooted for New DCU but probably not being changed much.
I remember walking out of movie theater very satisfied after watching this movie. It was 80% empty theater and I was thinking that lot of people will miss out on good movie
All right guys, so quick story as to why I really do enjoy blue beetle now more than any of the DC stuff I put it on your channel your review of blue beetle as background to do some stuff in the house but as soon as the movie started and I started hearing you guys. I had to stop sit down and watch it all the way through, that’s how much blue beetle I think is great because it dragged me away to go sit down and watch it. Not even the full movie just a review of it so thank you guys I appreciate it and have a great one. See you on the finale of Echo, ha ha
This movie had a significantly lower budget than The Flash. The Flash was pushed for hard to please the investors. I thought that movie was decent enough in spite of its flaws, but this movie was definitely better (certainly less messy) and deserved more attention in spite of being a smaller financial risk. To me, this movie is easily in the top three DCEU movies, the other two being Wonder Woman and The Suicide Squad. Ranking them feels unnecessary because they were all doing different things. The one thing going against this movie is just the sea of vaguely similar movies, but it's a solid execution.
I watched this on a plane recently and was blown away by how good it was given how poorly it did at the box office. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys super hero movies
If Gunn is smart he bring back the whole cast and just add it to the new DCU like they always existed in the new DCU. I love this film. Reminded me of Shin Kamen Rider from Amazon Prime. 7/10 for BB.
It was really fun to see you guys react to this film. I'm not Mexican or Latino in any way, but I loved the crap out of this film. It was cool to see your reactions to stuff I missed. I really hope this creative team gets a future in the DCU
I bought 2 Blue Beetle blu rays cuz they were different covers and one came with character cards 😂😂 I loved this movie so much. Deserved better. We need more Xolo as blue beetle in the new DCU. Love you guys and your reactions. Come from a Hispanic family and you guys make me feel at home all the time. So thank you for that ❤❤❤

Bruna Marquesine é minha conterrânea do Rio de Janeiro, interpretou uma personagem exclusiva do filme, ela acrescentou muito ao elenco, um excelente filme de origem e muito divertido, Gun disse que ele faz parte do DCU ❤
Ngl, I was kinda expecting/ hoping this film would feel more like Spider-Man mixed w/ Ms Marvel, but instead it kinda felt like a mix between Spy Kids, Power Rangers & Ben 10 imo. It's still a fun film - I just didn't enjoy it *as much* as I was hoping too tbh. Much like Shazam & Wonder Woman, I enjoy it while I'm watching, but it didn't leave a lasting impression on me the way MCU films do.
I love how this is a Mexican movie wrapped up in a superhero package. It rang so true and authentic rather than a diversity stunt. Absolutely love this movie!
The joy on Agustin's face was worth the wait
The afterlife scene is so impactful and definitely made me cry. It's also a great call back to the first Mexican film nominated for the Academy Awards, "Macario", with the endless candles, as well as a nod to Dia de Los Muertos
The visualisation of the Blue Beetle suit is one of my favourite ever live action superhero suits. It looks really good in this movie.
Took my son to see Blue Beetle in the theater and we both loved it!

The actor that plays Blue Beetle grew up on Cobra Kai and came to his full potential here. Really hope he sticks around in the future.
I been WAITING on this one!
This was alot of fun! Thanks for covering this
So underrated. I really like this movie. I’ve seen it 4 times.
I'm stoked that James Gunn confirmed Xolo will still be Blue Beetle in the new DC. Can't wait!
Nana's my favorite character from this film.
10:03 21:19 Ngl, the Blue Beetle suit reminds me of Big Chill from Ben 10: Alien Force lol. 38:09 Also, I know it's done w/ practical effects, but it kinda reminds me of the CGI from Ben 10: Race Against Time tbh.
Agustin, it’s “I’m so lost without you “. 😂
I decided to watch it today. Really liked it. I want to see more of Nana’s backstory!
Loved the movie! 🎉
I loved this movie, and even love it more watching Hector and Augustin love it.
dude, they play "Gracias a la vida" (a cover but anyway), so Violeta Parra is canon in de DCU
Finally some latinos watching reacting to this
This movie was SO SO good. And it brought joy to the DC universe, which has been so sorely missing.
Mijos 🥰
This was incredible!!! ❤❤❤
I remember walking out of movie theater very satisfied after watching this movie. It was 80% empty theater and I was thinking that lot of people will miss out on good movie
It's about time. I've been waiting for you guys. ❤
Totally agree. Watched it based on your recommendation. This movie succeeds at a lot of the same things that I liked about Ms. Marvel.
Rudy y Nana 🔥🔥 ¡¡¡the real Mexicanos saben que!!!
So pumped for this.
Movie didn’t have the marketing it should have
This movie had a significantly lower budget than The Flash.
When can we see some more Superman and Lois reactions.
I watched this on a plane recently and was blown away by how good it was given how poorly it did at the box office. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys super hero movies
It was released at a time when the stars couldn't do any press for it.
i watched this film last weekend and it was soo good it deserves sequel! (i also can't believe james gunn hyped the flash more than blue beetle... )
Loved the movie! So underrated.
If Gunn is smart he bring back the whole cast and just add it to the new DCU like they always existed in the new DCU. I love this film. Reminded me of Shin Kamen Rider from Amazon Prime. 7/10 for BB.
I loved this movie and I went to see it in theater twice, just to support the film!!!
It was really fun to see you guys react to this film. I'm not Mexican or Latino in any way, but I loved the crap out of this film. It was cool to see your reactions to stuff I missed. I really hope this creative team gets a future in the DCU
Wait I’m so excited to watch this because I hadn’t realized yall didn’t watch it!!
On the channel I mean just watched the intro of this video lol
Yeah they really do know how to cut to the Kord
Awsome movie
It totally is supposed to be Jason Sudeikis, the director even said he wanted Jason Sudeikis as Ted Kord,
I bought 2 Blue Beetle blu rays cuz they were different covers and one came with character cards 😂😂 I loved this movie so much.
Fun family movie. I really enjoyed it.
