- 04-08-23 My Friend Wayne Frank & I flew once again in this Very Historic Douglas C-53 (DC-3) This exact C-53 is a WWII Veteran that actually flew in Normandy. Check them out for flights in this remarkable and historic aircraft. at www.inlandempirecaf.com/
This Flight was the "Riverside Airport Poppy Flight Experience" so watch for the mountain sides of poppy's. A huge thank you to the CAF Crew and it was really great talking to them again and making this another great flight experience of a lifetime.
The Commemorative Air Force Inland Empire Wing’s WWII C-53D “Skytrooper” D-Day Doll participated in one of the most important battles to liberate Europe from Nazi Germany including the Normandy Invasion, Operation Market-Garden, Operation Varsity and in the dropping of supplies to surrounded U.S. troops in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge.
It was built at the Douglas factory in Santa Monica, California. It is one of 159 C-53Ds and was delivered to AAF on July 7, 1943. It was assigned to the 434th Troop Carrier Group and was stationed at various locations (Alliance Field, NE, Baer Field, IN, Fullbeck, UK, and Welford Park, UK) before arriving at Royal Air Force (RAF) Aldermaston, UK in march 1944.
The 434th TCG consisted of HQ and the 71st to 74th Squadrons. Aircraft 830 was assigned to the 72nd Squadron (CU).
The group's D-Day mission was to tow gliders carrying reinforcements to 101st Division troops who had been dropped earlier in the night near Utah Beach.
At 0119, June 6, 1944, 52 of the Group's airplanes, each towing a Waco glider, took off from RAF Aldermaston Airfield for Normandy. Aircraft 830 flew three missions on D-Day and the next day.
While in the ETO it participated in the D-Day invasion, Operation Market Garden in Holland, the re-supply of Bastogne, and the crossing of the Rhine.
It also flew various support missions and wounded evacuations to England. Авто/Мото

Pretty cool to see a white R22 Raven II & and an R22 (my favorite reciprocating engine helicopter) behind this plane. I call the R22 the "cute bird", due to it being so cute & little.
Did you see the White R44?
Cool startup. Very interesting to see the cockpit and nice view of the landscaping. I think I recognize your face. Happy Easter.👍

It's Engine Sound: Wright R-1820
I Love that sound 👍😎
They are doing one near me soon its $175 for 50min do you think it is worth it?
Yes it is 100% worth it and I already booked my flight to fly on it again for June 8th
What Does This Mean (CU) On The Plane?
Great question it's a USAAF squadron code, they used several different codes. Thank you very much for watching 👍😎
C-47?
Hello Randy, yup this is a C-53 version. A C-53 is essentially a DC-3 that at some point was specifically designed for military service. To be crude, it's a DC-3 in fatigues. Unlike the C-47 it does not have big cargo doors, a reinforced floor, or beefy landing gear. The easiest way to spot a C-53 “on the fly” is to look for the single oval entry door on the left side and the small baggage compartment door or the skinnier prop blades as opposed to the fatter wartime paddle blades of the C-47.The C-53 was also a troop transport and participated in combat missions as drop platform for paratroopers, glider tugs and as medical evacuation aircraft.
@@EdWhisenantAviation Oh I got it.
