Channa Masala| Indian style Chickpea Curry|Vegan/Vegetarian Recipe

Channa Masala is an Indian style curry made with Chickpeas/Garbanzo beans. It's a great option for vegetarian/vegan source of protein.

Ingredients for Channa Masala:
Chickpeas (Garbanzo beans/Channa) - 1 ½ cups of dry chickpeas, soaked in plain water for 4-6 hrs and cooked until soft;
Onions - finely chopped, 3 cups;
Tomatoes - crushed/ finely chopped, 1 ½ cups;
Garlic paste - 1 ½ tbsp;
Ginger paste - ¾ tbsp;
Green chillies - 1 or 2 no;
Curry leaves (optional) - 5 to 10 no;
Spices - 1 or 2 bay leaves, 1 ½ tsp cumin seeds (jeera), 1 ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1 ½ tbsp coriander powder; 1 ½ tsp red chilli powder (or as per taste), ¾ tsp cumin powder, 1 ½ tsp garam masala powder, 1 tsp Kasoori methi/dried fenugreek leaves (optional);
Salt to taste;
Sugar - 1 tsp;
Coriander leaves/Cilantro to garnish;
Cooking oil - 4 tbsp

I just made this as chickpeas are my favorite, I had to sub in some italian style crushed tomatoes because that is what I had on hand and I used a jalapeño for heat. It is sooooo good and not heavy. My family loved it too. Thank you

I tried this recipe and it worked very well. It is easy just that I used a bit less spice for our taste here. Thank you. I now know how to make a home made channa masala :-) In South Africa, Indian bread is called roti and we paired the dish with the roti. All tasted very good! Thanks again.

finally an easy recipe that explains EVERYTHING! like soaking chickpeas overnight! but u didn't mention whether u need to parboil them before making this channa masala? coz the 1st time i cooked with chickpeas i soaked overnight & cooked straight away without parboiling & they came out very undercooked....

You have to soak, n boil them until they are soft n then use it in recipe.. I have mentioned it at 0:30 to 0:40 0f this video.. thanks 🙏🏽
