  • The Adidas Adistar is one of the biggest shoes we’ve ever come across, and one of the most surprising too, because it runs very different to how it looks. Run Testers Kieran and Nick have been testing out the Adistar in their training, focusing on the long, slow runs Adidas says the shoe is designed for, but also picking up the pace to see how it handles a bit of speed. Here’s our multi-tester verdict on the shoe.

    I picked these up last week for £59 did my first run yesterday in them just over 19km, although they do feel firm I have to say I felt fresh after the run and my legs feel great today. Great review thanks for the video

    I must say I have warmed up to the heavy max cushioned shoes after using the Speedgoat for long runs on both trail and road. Allthough the longrun doesnt feel easier to do because of the weight of the shoe, the feet does feel less fatigued afterwards. The legs feel fresher the day after. Allthough heavy I think the max cushioned shoes do make me run higher volume. Being an Adidas fan, loving the SL20 and Adios 6, I think I'll maybe choose Adistar as my next max cushioned shoe.

    It took me 150km to break this one in. It so comfy and cushioned. Although it is heavy, once you start running, all that weight disappears.

    Thanks for the info. I saw this recently on Adidas' site and thought it was a lifestyle shoe at first. It also looks like a really high-stacked shoe. It definitely reminds me of a Hoka..

      @TheRunTesters  2 года назад +3

      Definitely more than just a lifestyle shoe. Though Adidas has this problem where it's sometimes hard to tell what's a serious running shoe and what's for swaggering around the cool urban hotspots.

      @@TheRunTesters As a long time Adidas fan this is the one thing that's super annoying about them. They're all over the shop with their marketing making it increasingly blurry to see what's what. Boosted up trendy trainers looking like running shoes should have their own twatty little website. Like wtf happened to the good ol' Bostons. These Adistar are on big sale now but I think I'll hold on for the Mach 5 for a new long run shoe. Never owned a pair of Hokas.

    I can see myself using this shoe as a lifestyle knockabout kick, alongside ultraboost 22.

    somedays, you need that lazy day, slow mileage shoe that does JUST that. I was left aghast when 1st seeing it, but slowly warmed up to it knowing that it was likely a one trick pony. AS I look @ some of Hoka's shoes -- like the Bondi or Rincon, they have plenty of company in this product lineup.

    It’s interesting that years ago my go-to was the Adistar Boost, and it was the polar opposite- low stack. I liked them because boost wasn’t affected by cold running temps here that usually (for me) range from 20F to single digits (like -10C). Do you think this foam is adversely affected by the cold?

    • @TheRunTesters
      @TheRunTesters  2 года назад

      I’ve (Nick) only been down to low single digits (C) myself but havent noticed any difference in the feel of it there. The heel material is eva so that can be affected by cold, but not sure on the foam used for the rest

    Is it wide feet friendly? I tried the solar-boost models and they’re really tight in forefoot.

  • @TimGrose

    Nice review but summary then is better than it looks but neither of you are going to carry on with it so not that good? Can't remember if you mentioned that the specs suggest is only a 6mm drop so yeah more Hoka than a normal adidas 10mm. Did you notice that at all? I do note that they do do my ideal adidas size UK 13.5 in these (tick as mostly they don't!) but even in your UK 9 or so it is a lot heavier than my UK 13 in the Speed 2 variants and I used that for an effectively a long, slowish (by its nature) 55K/35 miler the other week so the concept of a much heavier shoe to go "long" in does indeed seem a bit odd to me. Would this actual offer more "protection" than say the Speed 2 or would the weight just grind you down into your 2nd or 3rd hour etc etc. For similar reasons I found a 2 hour run in the Invincible OK but a lot of bulk to lift off the ground every step (well in my size) but seemingly probably 100g lighter than these. Got to easily top 450g in a UK 13.5 and that would make it even heavier than the SolarGlide 4 GTX which is the heaviest shoe I have got and probably my worst!

    • @TheRunTesters
      @TheRunTesters  2 года назад +1

      It does its job well I'd (Nick) say, but it's just not a job I find I particularly need for my running - like you I get on fine with lighter options like the Speed for long distance (though not done 55km yet!), though I do think the Adistar is more protective. It's very Hoka for sure. I didn't find the weight a factor at low speeds really, and enjoyed going long in the Invincible too, but maybe it could be a problem in the third hour or so with the Adistar. And of course yours would be fair bit heavier in a 13.5 like you say. I think the Adistar will work for lots of runners but then also be a bit pointless for lots of other runners, since it is very targeted in what it does well. That said if you want to feel very fast, do some 400s in these and then swap to the Speeds :)

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose 2 года назад +1

      @@TheRunTesters ha ha on the 400s - these days I need Dragonflys to feel vaguely not slow. Warm up in the Speeds. Think you have convinced me I don't "need" these Adistar ones but then again I say that about a lot of shoes before I buy them LOL.

    • @TheRunTesters
      @TheRunTesters  2 года назад +1

      Haha I def think they're not necessary in general, even if I'm glad I tried them as they were a nice surprise. Dragonfly, now there's something I want to try.
