Land Rover Defender 2021 review: 110 P400 SE

  • The new-generation Land Rover Defender 2021 model is one of the most anticipated off-roaders in decades. It's big, brash and boldly capable when it comes to adventures and expeditions, but how does it deal with the day-to-day drudgery of family life? We put this model to the test - no off-road, not technical data, and nothing but a real down-to-Earth approach about how the new-generation 2021 Land Rover Defender 110 stacks up as a family car.
    The Defender competes with cars like the Mercedes G-Class. This one is the five-seater 110 P400 SE which costs $102,736, before on-road costs and extras. Nedahl Stelio drove it for seven days, just around suburbia with her family of four, for this week’s family review.

    I've seen one on the street today. It had a nice orange interior and those two long dash 'borders' were covered with leather and really got my attention. It looks so much striking with some interior color. Somehow an utilitarian look as well on that dash. I would remove the spare wheel from there. It's bulky, it puts weight on the door hinges and no LR owner will ever lower that massive wheel by itself to change a flat, it must weight a ton. In fact, I pity the road assistance guy who will have to swap a flat on the side of the road

    I work for a road side assist company and some of our staff spaces were set aside for towed vehicles. Most of the vehicles' towed are either Range Rovers or Jeeps. That tells me everything I need to know. Yes, these have amazing fit and finish, but you'd expect some kind of reliability when you are paying so much. Defenders are usually more reliable then range rovers.

    I'm a longtime LR fan since owning an SWB Series III in the 1980s. All this model really lacks in this modern era of SUVs is a load bay cover to keep items out of sight of prying eyes and light fingers. I'm not aware of JLR or any after market company producing one.

I am planning for a New CROSS COUNTRY SUV to use in ITALY for the next several years and a frequuency of driving around 30 to 50K KM per Anum.I found the Toyota Land cruiser PRADO INVINCIBLE Model is first choice or the LAND ROVER DEFENDER 110 D300. SE as my second option .
    My purpose is just onroad journy and never be to Offroading. I found the price tag around 75K EURO for boath these SUV. I Never found any videos aganist any complaint on these two SUVs.I hope my selection is the best one according to the EUROPIAN SUV market . May I get any suggetion from any one on this ?

    Here in the uk defenders are becoming popular with the guys who used to have the discovery 3&4 as the defender has so much of the features of the out going model discovery over the more curved discovery 5 . The square shape , 4 corner air suspension, etc . It’s definitely not the utility vehicle that the defender once was , not really a choice for the farmer , more the building site manager or supermarket shopper . Cool mums will like this , as the disco 5 is much more of a Range Rover these days . I’m a Land Rover guy for the last 15 years . And will be looking to trade up next year ... will it be the D5 or defender 110 ...I’m not sure myself

    • @StephenFogarty2023
      @StephenFogarty2023 3 года назад +2

      Agree with what u say. It’s not a massively basic utility vehicle, like the previous generation Defender. But that Defender could only be sold in a few countries, as it did not meet various regulations etc, and barely anybody was buying it. Previous generation Defender built a fantastic heritage and reputation. The all new Defender can be sold worldwide. It looks great, and has many styling cues from previous generation Defender. A tough looking utilitarian vehicle with huge presence. Defender now has comfort, safety, tech and features, in addition to great off road ability. A very customisable vehicle etc. Pick the model, options etc to suit u and ur requirements. New Defender will sell in massive numbers worldwide, and generate profit for JLR. Huge model range. Commercial versions will sell well. 90 model and 6 cylinder Diesel engines on sale very soon. Defender SVR and 130 model to come etc. Defender range will grow a lot over next 18 months, as more versions get released. A smaller Defender Sport / Defender 80 model coming. More info on this by early 2022. Defender is the true replacement for Disco 3 and 4. LR purposely pushed Disco upmarket when the D5 was released. New Defender is extremely popular. Selling very well. Great to c so many passionate owners, creating a Defender to suit them. Many unique and excellent looking Defender vehicles continue to be sold worldwide. Well done LR. Great achievement.

Also, I have seen the New Defender off road and it isn’t impressive at all, when raised up to an acceptable ride height on its air suspension it lacks flex, and relies too heavily on its traction control, plus most of them are fitted with inappropriate low profile tyres and overly large alloy wheels, to clear the brakes.

    Does it start, does it go , has it a reserved parking spot at the dealership.??? So many questions.... The TFL channel is on their third already...150 miles !! A record ??

      How many people are gonna keep referencing that??? Yes the first one had a technical engine management problem, the US dealership couldn’t rectify it so JLR sent a new replacement, the dealership then destroyed the wiring loom whilst fitting a freely supplied upgraded winch from JLR! Hardly land rovers fault, not to mention TFL milking the hell out of it for more views.

      @@JC-xw7ml true they just released an update too but they didn't blame JLR, I suspect never buy a new vehicle design from a new factory, they just released a 220 kw 0 turbo diesel too that would be the way to go.

    The boot is way too small for overlanding. Big fail in this department, Land Rover. Now I see why a panner storage is offered, and a ladder accessory - the roof rack will be a necessity.
    Otherwise, this is an amazing vehicle in many ways.
