    Hey everyone! We forgot to include some critical vision! The Defender supports 6500kg of snatch load at front and rear recovery points or up to 9000kg pull load at the rear and 10,000kg at the front. This short clip will show you what the recovery point looks like. ruclips.net/video/Ocqj1K2K01s/видео.html

    I’ve had a D240 First Edition for almost 4 months and have done over 9,000 km in it. For background, I’ve had endless other 4WDs in the past (including an older Defender) and still have an EarthCruiser and a TravelTruck with an ActiveCamper slide on. Have done all the desert crossings and many other hard-core 4WD tracks in Australia multiple times. Have already done a moderate amount of “wheeling” in the Defender in a variety of terrains during those +9,000 km up and was up on Fraser Island last week. My verdict: This new Defender is just amazing. It is almost unstoppable off road and just so refined on road. And it makes you feel like an airline pilot with all the tech at the driver’s disposal. It’s the iPhone making other 4WD SUVs look like Nokias...

    This must be the most comprehensive review of a vehicle in the history of reviewing vehicles. Excellent job. Subbed.
    Renowned motor journalist Harry Metcalf of RUclips's 'Harry's Garage' fame and also a working farmer had a flood on his farm in the Cotswolds in the UK had another excellent review, he took this Defender in for a swim, he had the car up to the bottom of its headlights before getting the hell out of there. :) ( it at the 12min 40 sec mark if you don't want to watch the whole review)

    • @andrewjones-productions
      @andrewjones-productions 2 года назад

      @@dimsoneill Actually, if you read the comments section of Harry Metcalf's video, you will find that another farmer (unknowingly to him) bought the very vehicle that Harry had for the review. It is apparently doing very well. The number plate in the UK stays with the car even if changes hands and so I imagine that is how he was able to identify it - before you ask.

    You need to buy it’s such a pleasure to have this in your garage and for reliability if you don’t have any manufacture defects (which pop up like in the first 2 weeks of ownership if at all it’s there) you don’t have to worry much about it and you are good to go

    Great review. Those roof windows are called Alpine windows. The mild hybrid includes an electric supercharger which gives the low end grunt before the turbo kicks in.
    The reason the checker plate on the bonnet is plastic is because you can’t stand on them so no point wasting weight with metal. You can’t stand on them due to the bonnet design for deformation if hit by a pedestrian.
    Oh and that tiny coffee cup (seriously who buys coffee in that small a serve?), will fit in the little curved area between the 2 cup holders in the front.
    Reliability: I own a Land Rover (2015 model), no issues at all.

    Thanks for the great review Paul. Here are my experience for about 4 months of ownership of a P400S. We got our vehicle after waiting for about 7 months. The back of the front seats don't have the plastic cover and those tablet connection slots. No usb ports either. Also, we haven't got a central sunshade and sunglass holder. I reckon these have nothing to do with the semi-conductor shortage that made us wait. However, our Defender arrived equipped with wireless charger although we didn't opt for it. Android Auto is wireless as opposed to the unit you reviewed. Again, we didn't ask for it. Interestingly I would expect these to require more electronic circuits. Anyway. Regarding auto hold, only by chance I realised how it worked. From the settings, auto hold can be disabled. In that setting, car will stop the engine as a result of start&stop function. Autohold wouldn't be activated. However, if you push the brake paddle more after engine stops, auto hold would be activated. Nice feature when you don't want autohold but could still need it. Reliabilitywise, no issues so far with 2022 model unit. However, I think the geometric design of the front of the vehicle makes it susceptible to failure due to small accidents. To keep the overhang at minimum, everything, including the radiator, seem to have been squeezed in a narrow space. Apparently someone hit (I have to say pushed at creeping speed in car park) our front bumper with their car and it resulted in buckling of some radiator waffles. Bumper has no plastic deformation. Just a white scratch that I noticed. Just in the order of 2cm flex of an external component resulted in a plastic deformation of a part of the radiator. Bullbars could be a solution but they are not safe for others, so not an option. It has been comfortable and strong so far. It averages between 9.5-11.5L / 100km in highway and also in mountainous roads if driven at almost constant speed around 95. It would go up to 25Ls in short routes, especially when the route has up and downhills.

    Today I returned to the LR stable after a five year gap, ordering a P400 HSE Dynamic X. I have my fingers crossed as I previously had two Discovery 4s (2012 TDV6 and a 2015 model). Both has engine issues the latter suffering the well documented bearing/crankshaft catastrophic failure at 15,000km. The new Defenders are obviously a different kettle of fish in all respects, so I am hoping that I will be able to more fully enjoy the beauty of this new vehicle in all its glory.

    Great review. In fact the best generic review I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot as I am about to order one of these). I am interested in seeing how the car goes through water and also how it handles the harsh interior conditions in Australia? Also, I’m curious whether the height displayed on the dash incorporates things like the Land Rover off road tent? This would interesting as many car parks max out at 2.2m so I’m thinking that the roof tent accessory is probably too high? Again, thanks for a brilliant review.

    Great review and an interesting car. I drove a friend's 2021 Defender here in Sydney last week (city roads) and it was a little more luxurious than my old R51 Pathfinder! However, I couldn't help but wonder whether I'd be confident taking my family to the kind of desolate, remote locations we love to go to in a car so dependent on electronics and code (I am a software engineer). Also, when I'm driving on steep, rough, exposed tracks (Blue Rag etc.), I want all my attention outside of the vehicle, not on a fancy screen. Great for the younger generation perhaps... but not near me and my family when we're in steep stuff. :-) Cheers - Dave

    My 2014 Discovery D4 HSE has towed my off road van and done city work. It's been faultless reliability wise, although I bashed up a muffler. My fault though. I still have my 1997 Prado 3.4 litre v6 petrol, and it has been reliable too except for lights and switches. The Disco is not frightening off road, while the Prado is. I had a top model Diesel Prado 150 and hated it. I don't want to sell my D4, but the Defender looks terrific ... time for my wife to sell her Lexus RX 350 and get a Defender I reckon ...

    Just bought a GXL LC 200 V8 diesel. The drive away price was just under the list price of this LR.
    It doesn't have the fancy bits of the LR, but as I go to remote parts of Australia I'd rather have the peace of mind that Toyota reliability brings.
    If LR could concentrate as much on the reliability and after sales service reputation as much as the clever design they'd do really well in Australia.

    • @iamurage
      @iamurage 2 года назад +1

      Funny thing about LR all owners love them. Rumor, about reliability is only rumor from people who wish they own one. I have been through every desert in Australia in mine, never had a problem total, of 200,000 ks' now. I have been waiting for delivery of the diesel version right now.

    • @darthvader8433
      @darthvader8433 2 года назад +2

      @@iamurage If you've had a LR for 200,000km without problems, good luck to you. I hope your new one brings an owner experience which is better than the fellas on TFL on YT. There must be a reason that the herd has bypassed LR for Toyota and Nissan 4WDs in the 2nd hand market, or maybe there will be a renaissance in the value of used LRs. Let's see in 5 years eh?
      They are a pretty unit, no problem. Luxurious, absolutely. Would I drive one from here (south of Perth) to Cape York, my big trip this year - not a chance. Would a LR be a better thing around a city like Perth than a 200 series - yes most probably. There is a dealer here, not many north of Cairns or west of the Great Dividing Range.

You just need to reset the system to get it back! Hopefully a soft ware update will fix this small issue. Otherwise great 4wd and touring vehicle.
