Reagrding so many complaining about buyers to non-off hi-way usage. Why does it matter? I understood users have freedom to choose whatever they wish to ride/travel in. If it brings happiness, its good for LandRover. As a guy who’ll only be able to buy a used Defender, (Maybe?) this is a really good thing for me. 🤩
Why is everyone complaining about rhe presenter and saying it should be Hammond? Hammond has a video of the new Defender on Drivetribe and this is Top Gear magazine so even if the original trio were still with Top Gear they wouldnt be in this. I think this is a great video.
Good footage. Well done JLR for daring to publicly put the new through its paces off road, even if ot was a short trip. Most true 4x4 owners are very sceptical about this new Def, given the previous one reliability short comings. I hope JLR continues to dare prove the models reliability by doing proper overlanding expeditions. This should up the critics. As much the overlanding community loves its Pajeros/ Shogun and Toyo 70 series, we 'd all be delighted to have more comfort and everyday practicality. The big one is reliability, can ot survive 3000 km off roading. Kimberly trail next?
BeerGrills A mate picked up a used Lexus a while back for a fraction of the price of the equivalent Toyota model of basically exactly the same car. People don’t seem to think to search for them.

This was a magnificent advertisement for the Defender. Quite enjoyed it. There's plenty of reviews and tests and comparisons critical of the Defender, and rightly so. This was just fun, as it showed someone who was just starting to get a sense of why people drive 4x4 vehicles to such locations.
Day 2 in quarantine: considering selling the house, wife, kids and all possessions, buying a defender and driving across all of Africa. Who is with me?
the chassis isnt even an issue for me, if they can mount solid axles on a unibody, then fine... but they didnt. So i still think the jimny is a better "new defender" than the new defender
@Anonymous safety is cool and all, but for a true offroader vehicle, it should at least have a live rear axle imo; also given Land Rover's track record with electronic gadgets in their cars id never trust any air suspension on a defender
TG: "The diesel is perfectly fine. And let's face it, it's probably the one you're going to buy." U.S. Market: "They won't sell it to us with the diesel." Also, you got to drive the 6-cyl with steel wheels (upon review it appears they switched in and out of vehicles and it may not have been a 6-cyl with steelies). In the U.S. at least the 6-cyl only comes with larger brakes that the steel wheels won't fit over. Nice to see the mounted decent off-road tires with the Goodyear Duratracs. From what I've heard LR sales/marketing types will typically rattle off lines about how their vehicles are "tire immune".
The defender is 90k in the US, Ford just came out with the new Bronco you can order it from the factory with a lift, lockers and 37" tires for like $35k

The group as a whole (all the cars; royal we) did but he did not.
As clear and reliable as any journalist.
Will be interesting to see this vs the upcoming Ford Bronco
We've been due a new Bronco since Rampage came out lol
I expect the Bronco will kick the shit out of this pile
@@randycane5894 I bloody well hope so, if I'm honest this is a disgrace to the Defender name. There was no reason at all to discontinue the old model
@@SWR_Quackula I don't think most of the land rover fans like the design...but they trying to prove it can function the same way..but its still not the true Land Rover Fans Love.
We need True Defender for the Fans to truly be functional in this uncertain time..(kits and all included)
The bronco is sooooo ugly tho
"Don't like offroading. Don't understand why offroaders do it. But I'll review the car anyway and hope viewers listen to me."
Hope he enjoyed all the free Land Rover swag and fully catered trip.
As a very frequent offroader, I have learned to ceramic coat the windshield and when mud hits it, it slides right off. No lost visibility.
Does anyone know the name of the intro soundtrack? I couldnt find it in the videos description.
It sounds absolutely amazing
Maasai by Hans Johnson
@@stormyndonga2632 Thank you very much!!!
You just made my day! For the life of me I couldnt find this song.
Again thank you very much and I wish you a great day!!!!!!
18:25 or so when the map is on the screen they typo’d: it should say Day 3 and not Day 2 on the bottom. Currently it says Day 2 twice. Nothing major, just an observation
The longest TV commercial I've ever seen.
11:11, that watch disappeared from your wrist in a matter of seconds! all in all, absolutely enjoyed this video 😎
Quality video and quality review.
Different era of the show. But really loving the focus on the review and not the comedy.
If I want a laugh I’ll just watch the mighty trio on Dave.
It was interesting to make a challenge between defender Td5 and the new defender. a track with a couple of obstacles and compare the differences !!
I enjoyed this video. Would like to have seen more of the water crossings in detail though but you touched on all I needed to know for now. Thanks so much. Nice to see the host get excited about the car in the end.
It a free ride for him silly. Plus he needs to say all the right thing or NO more rides for him. This is a lame excuse for a Defender replacement
Watch Carwow's review. Mat Watson covers all the proper info including water depth.
"Most of the tracks around here are laid down by Toyota's"
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣
I get it but why's it this funny to you? I didn't think it was suppose to be funny.
I think because Toyotas are simpler and a fraction of the price.
Man Jack and Harris should host Top Gear not those two other buffoons
They're really good on their own but I don't find they have much chemistry (like when Jack does those mini interviews for Chris' thoughts on certain cars); I think Chris is just kind of stubborn and doesn't play well with others and anytime he has to be on big-network television you can tell he's really, really faking it.
says the buffoon.
@jon doe Nooooo, don´t say things like that. I think Harris is the only reason TG still exists.
I think the old top gear host should be the host
Jodhbir Singh no we need Jeremy, Richard and James
This is the best advertisement to just go buy a Landcruiser.
BeerGrills A mate picked up a used Lexus a while back for a fraction of the price of the equivalent Toyota model of basically exactly the same car. People don’t seem to think to search for them.
I’m sad about they have taken it away from the agricultural side as I live in farming community and these are cult cars but I guess sale demographics matter
Edit : just for clarification where I live on a small Uk island with mainly farming communities the defender is very popular
Now that's a job for the Discovery, I suppose.
Yeah, although now here most of the farmers have bought pickups instead and I dont know if they'd go back to the land rover.
Stanley Flooring it. Yeah agreed but still a classic agricultural car for many farmers
Andre Coutinho agreed
there will be a commercial version coming up soon.. stripped down and cheaper. www.landrover.co.uk/explore-land-rover/news/defender-commercial.html
That cinematic shot from 21:00 is just incredible!
Fully agree. Goosebumps.
Better than the previous model
Awesome intro montage! Adventure fillings effect!
There will never be another Clarkson. I miss the Baboon.
Go watch the grand tour
The shaved ape in a shirt
How about some torture test like the old time (aka Toyota hilux)??????
Hilux.🤔... with DPF problems 🤣🤣😂😂
@Righteous 200 series with 4.5 v8 diesel ...injectors $6.8k (not covered by warranty) i sold it .. and work mate with 260k on the clock dust passed air filter (common problem which Toyota refuses to fix) and $30k for new engine oouuuhhh
@Righteous I'm Aussie... different Toyota spec. We had 4.7 v8 good reliable motor but costly to run (early ones had couple problems) no car manufacturer are perfect but Toyota play safe " simple, use parts from previus model (if ain't broken don't change it )
Wowwww....what a review, what a location, what a Car.
Defender- The ULTIMATE.
Am in, Who is gonna buy though
How much for the wife?
Will Tricks 50 racks
Good luck fool
Oh man you're right! Count in me :D
No ladder frame chassis, no rigid axles and no manual difflocks.....
You get digital manual diff locks
the chassis isnt even an issue for me, if they can mount solid axles on a unibody, then fine... but they didnt. So i still think the jimny is a better "new defender" than the new defender
@Anonymous except the Jimny, Bronco, and JL Wrangler all have ladder frame chassis in 2020
@Anonymous safety is cool and all, but for a true offroader vehicle, it should at least have a live rear axle imo; also given Land Rover's track record with electronic gadgets in their cars id never trust any air suspension on a defender
@@eugene9852 The Jimny is not made for the motorway, it's made for offroading and it is indeed a realy good offroad CAR.
More of a replacement for the FJ Cruiser than the Defender. If you want a Defender buy an old one and have it rebuilt to your perfect spec.
In fact it looks like the FJ though may miss miss a few fuel stops by comparison .
Top Gear off-road videos are absolutely enjoyable.
TG: "The diesel is perfectly fine. And let's face it, it's probably the one you're going to buy."
U.S. Market: "They won't sell it to us with the diesel."
Also, you got to drive the 6-cyl with steel wheels (upon review it appears they switched in and out of vehicles and it may not have been a 6-cyl with steelies). In the U.S. at least the 6-cyl only comes with larger brakes that the steel wheels won't fit over. Nice to see the mounted decent off-road tires with the Goodyear Duratracs. From what I've heard LR sales/marketing types will typically rattle off lines about how their vehicles are "tire immune".
Loved that song at the beginning. It's "Hans Johnson - Maasai", by the way.
thank you so much
YES! TRULY hoped to find this, thanks a ton.
only good part of the whole video
“ I was the guy changing the wheels” nekminnut “we never even got a flat”
I will be interested in how the Ineos Grenadier shapes up to a Defender or a 70 series when it is released in 2022.
The defender is 90k in the US, Ford just came out with the new Bronco you can order it from the factory with a lift, lockers and 37" tires for like $35k
A conversion to RHD add 70k at least to buy in aust.
Looks SO much like a commercial video.
- putting motor journalists in a car and into a stunning location, most journalists forget to test the car.
No matter how good it is with its fancy gizmos, but off the road it will never beat the old school live axles iconic defender.
i will buy it if it can make it from dealer to my house without engine light on
'Most of the cars around here are Toyotas'. Tells you all you need to know.
yes, they are cheap.
@@will006 land cruisers definitely aren't cheap haha
they aren't cheap, they are reliable ;-) no one is stupid enough to buy a landrover in rural Africa
will006 : hahaaa U know nothing about TLC !!!
@@will006 oh yeah 😒
I’d only want this in the lowest spec possible.
With minimal tech
Podia Pod and most importantly, STEELIES
Well it would be cheaper, that's for sure 😂
Owain I’d only want it in Petrol version in the highest spec possible. Always always buy the highest spec.
4:32 : Just out of shot a couple of support land cruisers driving behind to keep the expedition going when the land rovers get stuck / break down.
Best range rover ad ever
Can I self isolate with that car in Namibia?
18:16 Give the intern more sleep, he wrote "Day 2" again instead of "Day 3"
you know the drill
if theres no oil under a land rover,
theres no oil in it
thank you for dedicating Defender to Africa.
This was so enjoyable to watch, like watching a nature/adventure documentary.
Finally, in 2020 they finally do this in 4K. Children in mom's basement have been uploading in higher def than top gear. I never thought I'd see the day.
I like this Disco 4.5, it is amazing!!!
Turbo-charged, supercharged, hybrid and it has air-suspension? *What could possibly go wrong* ? 😂
Imagine buying this for oFfRoAd 😂😂
@@simeonaleksiev8690 bruh🤣👎
Exactly 🤣
Awesome movie! How did you mount the spare wheel on the roof rack? Thanks!
The main difference between the old Top Gear and the new one is that reviews were reviews back then not advertising that only praises the car.
A nice effort, but this should be the Discovery. The Jeep Wrangler still has no competition.
I miss my old 1993 90 defender called Betsy!
No computer boxes and air suspension..
Straight old school
When you see "Top Gear" and think you're going to get a proper Hammond review buut reality is different.
Bla2... Go watch them at another channel.. learn to grow up and move on...
What ever you say top gear just has the best video graphics skills than all other car reviewer 😍😍😍
