2021 Range Rover Autobiography on/off-road review: Not hard to see why the Queen loves it!

- You know that when the Queen likes a car, it can't be too bad on the luxury front. While the 2021 Range Rover platform has been out for longer than my hair style, it still has a certain luxury nature about it. It's also built for off-road driving.
Paul Maric tests out the 2021 Range Rover Autobiography D350 to see if this luxury SUV is any good. This review includes some on- and off-road driving.

Love how casually Paul says “if this is too expensive, the model range starts at $200,000”
😅
Do you get wheels and tires in the base model or are they optional
@@zealman79 Base model comes with electrical issues as standard too
Wait two years and pick one up for next to nothing.
@@CarExpertAus you'd want it gold plated for that money.
Safe to say Paul Maric is the leading Aussie car journo right now. Great videos and reviews mate.
never been more hyped to see that durometer test
😅
The reasoning so love your channel is cos you often test great vehicles performance offroad. Love it.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Superb Paul. Range Rover is lucky to have you reviewed their car. Congrats Range Rover. 🥰😍
Thanks!
Another great review Paul, thou I had to chuckle when you did the interior 'build quality' test...Normally you'd wrestle the driver's armrest/dashboard and centre console with both hands, today you chose the 2 pinky test!!
Hi Paul, great idea with the two offroad courses, would also be nice to see how AWD SUVs like the Rav4 perform on these two courses.
Great review Paul! Well done. When you get an opportunity, please review "offroading" capabilities of Volvo XC90 T8.
Your reviews are authoritative
I watch your video series related to jeeps review ,your work is awesome man keep it up the good work ,We are from Sri Lanka ,love your work
i got one of these in Rossello Red with Black rims and I absolutely love it so much
Brilliant review Paul. Covered everything well.
Could you guys please do the Defender D300 X-Dynamic HSE variant please?
Very enjoyable and informative. Just listening between the lines, I got the feeling Paul thought this was in a bit of a no-man's land price-wise, and that the money spent for it wasn't getting an appropriate amount of design and execution quality. That take-off ramp formed by the rear seats "folding" is woeful as is rear room - this is a 5-metres-long vehicle. I noted the Ssang Yong Rexton in the background and couldn't help but wonder is the RR was actually worth 5-6 times its price.
*Love the interior luxury and design!*
I've always absolutely loved the look of this generation Range Rover.
Loved the video!
Ive always been a subtle admirer of Range Rover, to me its the brand where there is just no compromise at all. I would not mind driving one of these one day!
They’re a beautiful thing!
There were so many compromises mentioned in this video though 😂
I’ve wanted one all my life - got one two years ago and have been delighted.
I LOVE these rovers. Can’t wait to see the new model soon. I will say, I don’t do too much off road driving but really great review and cool to see one get dirty. I’d happily drive one daily 💯
Until you started getting the repair bills. Very unreliable cars.
Great video for off-road creds of the RR-V. Loved it. Leaving comment so I can keep coming back to it quickly. Many thanks.
another wicked review, Thank you! Must be hard going from a $270k Range Rover to Suzuki Swift the next day haha
Thanks! And very true 😅
Ironically the Swift may prove more reliable long term....😂
@@boratborat8045 may? Will.
I am so glad you did a review on this. I was looking to buy 5 of them.
Already have 10. Trust me they break down in like 2 mins.
😅

Agree with everything you say.
I have exactly this car (Autobiography) and am delighted with it.
Nice review and format!!
Being the owner of a 2016 RR I can tell you that their fuel consumption claim is not way off. I get 8.1 L/100km day in day out - but I don't drive it like I stole it either. I have towed a 2.6T 20' caravan around Australia - using the cruise control @ 90kph up hill & down dale, averaging 14.1L/100km for the 16,000km travelled. Pulled it like it wasn't there! I was surprised that you didn't mention the constant all wheel torque vectoring? It's a big plus for the car. Also, for the naysayers concerning Range Rovers reliability, speaking for myself I haven't had any problems either mechanically or electrically at all, just the one little piece of crappy plastic on the drivers seat control cover = nothing. I have only done "soft" off road driving in a bit of mud and some shallow water crossings and all too easy. It has been and still is a great car and an absolute pleasure to drive, with heaps of grunt for a 3L diesel. I'd buy a new one tomorrow - except I couldn't afford one! I had to chuckle when you said their only problem was that they are not expensive enough.
What kind of mechanical issues have you had? I’ve had a suspension failure and 3 replacement coolant tanks so far (2018 v8 diesel)
Interesting, after watching this review, yesterday and being quite taken aback by the poor response on the infotainment screen, I drove about 4 hours in our 2020 RAV4 using Android Auto; and it drove me crazy. Having to hit the infotainment screen 3 or 4 times to get it to work. I hadn't really noticed how bad it was. But, then again, it did cost me less than 50 grand.
I’ve owned two Range Rovers over the years. They are frighteningly expense to maintain and repair.
Never again!
Were there issues during the warranty or was it after?
Perfect choice if you're keen on paying off your mechanics home loan early 😜
@@CarExpertAus after.
@@djjames6576 Australia doesn’t have leases like America. Leasing is an insanely expensive and ridiculous way to pay for a vehicle
Wise man
Ageing very well, still looks great.
Still the luxury SUV benchmark
I’d def buy the LWB model for huge Row 2 space.
Pity they did not upgrade the tech to be Pivi Pro system.
Really love the D350 motor.
All new model RR getting released in UK late 2021.
Nice review. India only sells the long wheel base version. This one which you have reviewed is cluster phobic.
Hi, Very @paulmaric nice review, I was wandering if you could take Ranger Wildtrak to same off-road track, to see how Ford worked with the basically same engine, turbo V6 but differently built with kinda same architecture? Thank you!
i was looking for this review thanks
🙌
Had the first-gen 3 doors 3.5 V8. I was thee, man. Unbeliveable off-road. Crisscross the Kalahari in style. Then fuel pump problems. Front left drive shaft snapped. Transfer case oil ended up in the gearbox. (different oils) If you ever took a transfer case out of an LR you will know it weighs a ton. Spare parts are very very expensive and got to be imported. All fixed, I'm a King again, for two weeks. The electric window, wipers, horn stop working, smoke from behind the dash, burning. wires. All fixed, cost a fortune, bye-bye Range Rover. Just too unreliable. Two Defender pickups , one diesel, one V8.Same transfer case problem.Never again.Drove a friends 4.6 HSE, nice, but no thank you .
Could u do an Audi A1 35TFSI 2021 review with the style and technik packages?
I would love a Rangie and for as much as I don't pay too much attention to reliability scuttlebutt (I own Alfa's 🤣) the track record of these really does scare me off. Fantastic off road vehicle. I've seen these casually walk thru geology that has mainstream 'tuff' trucks struggling.
They’re a beast off-road!
A beast in the repair centre too!
@@dimsoneill But apparently no more than the others complex luxury cars.
Another great review Paul, didn’t realise the back seats were so small! I’ve heard terrible things about RR/LR reliability though, any thoughts on the stereotype? 🤔
The reputation is well deserved. Appalling. And the Australian dealership service outside of Sydney don’t see enough of these cars to know how to resolve the issues
Hey Paul, when are you going to be reviewing the Haval H6 2021?
Did very well off road, on its standard road based tyres.
Did a lot without going into
Low Range...
Love the review u do
If I could afford one it would be very important for it to have the go anywhere capability. Pretty disappointing rear space and seating position though!
I look forward to your review of the Discovery (not the 'Sport').
I wish you can do a review of range Rover velar 2.0 litre turbo diesel
Very good looking, we all fear reliability issues but I would buy one if I have the money
Immensely capable off road and on but I'd wait for the MLA based new one.
I’m looking forward to the next gen!
and for someone who has a family of 4: me,my husband my 2 toddlers I like it so are my twins they always get entertained with their peppa pig I never even stress I just know that they are safe with mum and dad and for me a stay at home mom when I need to go run errands I have to go with them my husband is an engineer we live in luxury and I'm soo blessed to have found this car another fun part is that we always go on trips with this car and my husband hs a Defender and a Discovery sport and the ultimate sport and the fact that we both love range rovers is a win we have been obsessed since we were kids and since we were at the age of 5 we have loved each other nd fun fact both our parents were rich and they really really love Range Rovers I'm the luckiest girl in the world and we always drive in confidence which I absolutely love and our parents just bough a new one
Can you review the Land Rover Discorvery
Hi there, I really enjoyed your video, I am putting together an off road compilation of the L405, and wondered if you would like to be included?
Sir, is the range rover built in Australia also or it's imported?
Have had two RR Sports and one Discovery among over forty vehicles. All three went off-road (including Simpson Dest), etc. I’d have another in a heartbeat.
Paul I don’t own the Crown Jewels, so what’s your recommendation for a 5 seat SUV for $45 thousand and under please
Why didn't the doors get opened when 2 wheels were off the ground?
The rear seats can go further back, I have a 6ft 7in friend with a swb l405 and he can comfortably sit behind himself
Man you really review well👍
i really like your reviews
Thanks mate!
I wonder how you fit a bullbar now?
Why are there no new Range Rover Velar/Evoque reviews in any main Australian car review channels?
I’ve waiting for this video 😭omg!!!
😁
you can get the pre facelift version from 2014 for around 80K. Bloody Bagain
Agreed!
Please Review The Lexus Ls570 And Toyota Corolla 2020 Mercedes S500 Honda Civic 2020
great video. Hope things are ok down under. We keep hearing it's totally locked down again with helicopters flying around looking for people. I hope that's not really the situation.
Thoughts on the new look Paul?
That panic button is a must in a Range Rover. Would be used every now n often. 😆
Where is the video of your trip across oz. that you mentioned to broome in LRs?
That was before video was a thing 😅
At least the screen didn’t crash unlike the f pace svr you guys had last year
True!
Typical land Rover/jaguar quality lol
This design has hit redundancy....quite like the Porsche 911. Would be nice to carry it along for a few more generations to come....let's evolve more the interior and tech. To be honest, the Range Rover is really in a class of its own....the only real off-road dealer at these strato levels....
The Range Rover is truly unlike any "competitor". The off roaders costing the same prices lack the luxury, confort and feel of the RR and the Suvs like the Maybach, Rolls-Royce or Bentley don't have either the off road capabilities of this or, in my opinion, look as classy.
It's really nuts to think this thing is built like a normal car this days and will hold itself together on some tough terrain with street tires and embarass some purpose built trucks.
@@tattttu9 Air suspension and electrical gremlins galore, xfer case issues, would have to be a brainless yuppy wanker to want one.
911 shape going strong. Redundant my arse. What are you on about?
Amazing review!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bro the video came out 4 minutes ago
The car design is stylish & costs a bomb, but the key looks like it belongs to a base model ford from twenty years ago! 😂
Great review but my only criticism (constructive of course), is that when reviewing the rear seating and complaining about the lack of leg room, your drivers' seat was so far back that if you were driving and turned your head 45º to the right, you'd be looking straight at the B-pillar. The drivers' seat was actually parallel with the rear door - that's how far back you had it.
If you're THAT tall that you need the seat THAT far back and you carry passengers in the rear, that's what the LWB Autobiography is for.
Apart from that little whinge - awesome!!~ Thanks.
Of course you could always be like me and spend another 32K on 1 particular extra.
A New engine at 65K. The injectors were over fuelling and this caused the 4.4V8's pistons to melt. Was it covered by warranty you ask? 1 stamp in the book (before me) which was not a main dealer - just a land rover specialist - says no.
Car is a special edition autobiography signature which cost 120K new. Thanks LR - I shall get a German designed and made vehicle next - Porsche - lets talk warranties.....
You guys should do the land curier 300
range rovers are such beautiful cars, such a shame that they aren’t up there in terms of reliability
It looks nice in my opinion
You’d think something that big would have decent leg room in the back smh. But I guess that’s what the long wheel base is for 🤔
love it, great video :)
The cargo space is huge! Why didnt they give a little more space to the rear seats than such a big boot? Seems like a tactic to push people to buy the long-wheelbase version.
Even the long wheelbase version only has two rows... I guess its for that executive feel. Discovery and sport do have third row though
My 2019 Mercedes sprinter work van has wireless apple car play, how are manufacturers like Bentley and Land Rover not including it as standard with their luxury vehicles if my work van has it! Winds me up
please review the new toyota LandCruiser 300 series
good day paul!
G’day!
Nooo! Please don't convince Range Rover to price the car higher! I want to buy one in the future.
Already have one.
😅
Lots of people who comment have never been in a Land Rover of any type.
I have had Range Rovers,Defenders and Discoveries.
With correct maintenance, they have been very reliable.
When things break,it's because I have broken them.
I am going to buy an18 plate SDV8 Autobiography as their reliability rep is great.
Hey Paul, I’m just wondering where the off-road course you are at in this video and all the other 4x4 vehicle videos I would like to go there and test out my car.
It’s ok if you don’t want to tell me
It’s a private test track :-) it’s not open to the public at the moment.
@@CarExpertAus oh ok, know anything if and when it’ll be open to the public ?
Waiting for car to warm up?! You use a car heater (like Webasto) for that!
Hilarious - that scepitical look Paul, when quoting the official fuel economy @ 19:36.
😅
I thought he was going to say lying bastards.Ha ha
I own a 2017 Vogue sdv8 and I average 30 UK mpg on motorways and about 18 mpg in stop start traffic.
we want like this 2023 jeep grand cherokee 4xe on and off road video
Aren’t those screens behind the front seats mean danger in a frontal collision?
I fear the glass of those screens will end up in the face of rear seat passenger in case of a frontal collision. Better not to select that box on the options list.
6:46 viber is still around ????
Those screens in the back seat would be nice to headbutt in an accident in a so called 5 star car lol🤣
Does it come with a drone to follow you around
😅
Landrover is a Super Computer on wheels. 💯💯
$260k you can buy a holiday house in lakes entrance. G....
29:50: "This thing will literally go anywhere." Yes, but would it get back??? RRs aren't exactly known for their reliability and reliability is paramount going off-road.
The best value for money is the Discovery, more room, same off road and now cheaper than the V6 Landcruiser. Mine is 3 years old and reliable .
Genesis interior is ahead but you can’t bet the design and presence of a RR
🥲 The mux already has been launched in Australia
I hope to own two cars that will fulfill all my need 1. Range td6/v8 lwb 2. Q5 sportback I like these two
I didn't think desiel uses fuel idling
Think I will stick to my Mazda 3
Rear seats in this are like the spare wheel in the F-type… who thought that was acceptable.
Nice detail info.
Thanks mate
@@CarExpertAus welcome bro.
Rim size is its problem, can't deflate properly, long sections of sand the tyres destroy themselves
As far as the legendary Off-Road Capability of Range Rovers is concerned. I would far rather prefer to have that ability and Not/Need or Use it than Need it but Not Have it.. Such instances might be in sudden
flood situations, or really equally sudden, heavy rainstorms when in a rural situation, with unexpectedly deep, muddy ground conditions. I have had experience of such..Thank God for my Range Rover at the time...
Appreciate how much work you put in. Pity we can’t drive anywhere cos we might get the flu and have to stay home as the cure. These are a bit boring and so outdated. Is it really that much better than a nice x5?
Waiting for the 2022 autobiography....
Fun fact Paul, in the day you had the car it depreciated another $50k…
I hate depreciation
😅
Wouldnt trust it to get me to the corner store without a problem arising
