  • Welcome to Camping with Kim - my new camping channel and my tenth adventure! If you are here for the first time, I don’t talk in my videos and try to use as little music as possible. Please enjoy my laid-back camping!
Join me on my winter camping adventure where I venture out to general use crown land in northern Ontario Canada with my 2023 Honda CRV. This time, I eat and sleep in my car without any tent. I believe this is also called dispersed camping.
I heard there was snow coming, so I quickly packed up my car and headed out to scope out some crown land in northern Ontario. After a lot of driving, the night creeps in and the snow and winds pick up. I choose a spot and quickly park for the night.
Although I only plan on staying for one night, I pack enough for several days just in case. I also have a roof cargo box full of tools and recovery gear that I might need in an emergency to save myself.
After relaxing in an electric oil heated car powered by my DIY battery, I turn in for the night. Surprisingly the next morning, I only find a little bit of snow landed on the car. After breakfast, snow starts to fall very quickly and I decide to get out while I still can, as the road I arrived on can quickly be snowed in.
As I get out of the most dangerous and narrow back road, I stop to make some cute snow penguins before heading home.
I would say this trip was a little dangerous but was still fun and exciting for me. I wouldn’t recommend doing it without planning, safety gear and lots of extra provisions though!
Thanks again for watching and see you at my next camping adventure!

Hi Kim, I wanted to say that I enjoyed this video. I have always wanted to try winter camping but never got the nerve to do it. I got a fully equipped vehicle to handle any condition, heat or cold. We don’t get the snow in central Ohio so I would have to travel north into Michigan. I liked this video because it shows me the possibility of the conditions surrounding me and the “what if”. Perhaps, next winter I might take that chance🤔. Love the penguin family (very original)❤️. Lastly, I never thought of using levelers on my suv. Thank you Kim 🙏

Hi Dave! Winter camping is actually my favourite time of year to camp! Usually nobody is around on the trails and campsites are practically empty too. The landscape changes into something totally different and there are practically no bugs to deal with (big bonus!). Doing a bit more in preparation to deal with the "what ifs" is well worth the enjoyment for me. For this video, I wasn't sure where I was going to be parking or if there would be rocks or wood for me to roll onto, so the levellers came in handy to help me from sliding down my mattress. The un-levelness happened to me once and I really didn't have a good sleep as I kept having to re-center myself all night. Thanks again for watching! :)

This is awesome!!! How did the CRV perform in the snow? I have a 23' Sport Touring and am planning on taking in some fairly deep snow here in the coming weeks!

Hi Michelle! Thanks for watching! It performs pretty well in the snow for me. It definitely isn't a lifted off-road truck, but if you keep reasonable expectations and don't go through snow that's too deep, it does pretty good and pushes through. I've even smashed through some walls of snow with some speed. Sometimes you have to turn off the traction control to get more power to the wheels. I would recommend finding an empty snowy parking lot and throw the CRV around for some fun to get a good feel for it! :)
