Sleeping in Car while Camping at Silver Provincial Park Canada
Welcome to Camping with Kim - my newish camping channel and fifteenth adventure! If you are here for the first time, I don’t talk in my videos. Please join me and enjoy watching my laid-back camping mini adventures where I just get away from Toronto and do a bit of relaxing camping.
On this adventure, I head over to Silver Lake Provincial Park which is 3.5 north east of Toronto. I learned that there’s a nice little zoo in Peterborough which is free so I stopped by the see the animals along the way.
Nothing crazy happens on this camping trip and it didn’t rain as much as I was anticipating. I took my sweet time cooking a surf and turf dinner and was lucky enough to enjoy a spectacular eveni...

      @@campingwithkim es, your choice of cooking gear and tent will have to be alot smaller for backpacking....not sure if you knew or not, but if you come accross free firewood again and its wet, try spitting it, the inside is usually dry and will burn, also when you get the fire going lay the other wet logs on the grill of the firepit, this will dry them out

    Hi Kim, Thank you for the video. I am from Vancouver Island and just had my first car camping at Goldstream provincial park with my little dog a month ago. Would you mind telling me the tent that you were using in the video? Is it hard to setup by one person?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim 3 месяца назад

      Hi Selina, Nice to hear from you in Vancouver Island! The tent I used was the Coleman 8-Person Instant Cabin Tent but is an older model of this one: www.coleman.com/tents-canopies/tents-by-size/8-9-person-tents/8-person-instant-cabin-tent/SAP_2000018296.html As long as it's not windy, this is probably the easiest and quickest tents to setup solo. The only problem is that it's a bit heavy with all of its extending and folding poles, but the weight is a trade off for the ease of setup. If you don't count the time to peg down the tent, the whole tent can be fully standing within 5 minutes! For your little dog, I would also recommend putting an extra carpet or padding down on the inside to make it more comfy to lie down or roll around on, Thanks for watching!

      Hi Christopher, Thanks and sorry I missed seeing your message earlier! The light stand is a generic piece I found browsing online. You'll find many options using the search terms "Folding Camping Lantern Stand Pole" on Amazon, etc. As for the light, I got a pair of them from Aliexpress and you can find it by searching "80W MOS-LY01-1PCS" for a single piece. I wasn't sure if it was going to be a nice light but it turned out to be plenty bright with a really good battery life. Recharging it can take a long while though.

    Hi Kim, I never realized that there was a big difference between the 2 years. I own a 2019 CRV which I am quite satisfied. The only thing I missed was a cd player. However, I sync my iPhone with the Bluetooth so I can play my Spotify. When I bought my CRV, I disliked the tires that came with it so, after a couple of years, I broke down and bought the tires that came with the car back in 2016. They were Hanook which was no regrets. Btw, great modifications on your 2023 raising the platform in the rear so you’ll be able sleep the length of the vehicle. Thanks Kim for the comparison 🙏🫶

      Hi Dave! The folding kayak is really cool! I don't really have space to mount a kayak on my roof next to the roof box, so having one that fits neatly into my trunk is great. It's also very very light weight and tracks decently straight in the waters. The only thing is that I had it shipped up from California, so it was a bit costly after duties and all, but I've enjoyed using it quite a bit, so still worth it to me. Thanks again!

In my research, lots of other people on the Internet go with Polmoly stoves in case you want to look at other options. As for the tent, it's a MCETO TX400PRO with snow skirt teepee tent. It is pretty large spanning 4 meters diagonally and it has two doors and air vents. It came with the hot tent flap too. A more popular brand to also check out is Esker. Enjoy!

I got a fully equipped vehicle to handle any condition, heat or cold. We don’t get the snow in central Ohio so I would have to travel north into Michigan. I liked this video because it shows me the possibility of the conditions surrounding me and the “what if”. Perhaps, next winter I might take that chance🤔. Love the penguin family (very original)❤️. Lastly, I never thought of using levelers on my suv. Thank you Kim 🙏

      Hi Dave! Winter camping is actually my favourite time of year to camp! Usually nobody is around on the trails and campsites are practically empty too. The landscape changes into something totally different and there are practically no bugs to deal with (big bonus!). Doing a bit more in preparation to deal with the "what ifs" is well worth the enjoyment for me. For this video, I wasn't sure where I was going to be parking or if there would be rocks or wood for me to roll onto, so the levellers came in handy to help me from sliding down my mattress. The un-levelness happened to me once and I really didn't have a good sleep as I kept having to re-center myself all night. Thanks again for watching! :)

    Hello Kim, this is Dave from Ohio. First time subscriber and I enjoyed this video. I’m a solo male camper who just restarted camping last year. What was interesting was that I to prefer instant tents, which is so easy to set up and I want to enjoy my time being surrounded by nature and playing with poles😂. I also own a CRV which I did a road trip to Yellowstone while camping along the way. But, the thing that interests me that you’re just over the border, Canada seems to have a lot of wonderful places to camp especially near Lake Ontario. Kim, I did enjoyed this video and plan to watch more. Thank you and bless you 🙏

      Hi Dave! Welcome and thank you so much for your kind words. That's great to hear that you've re-taken up camping which is such a nice way to travel and explore. It's on my list to explore across the boarder too ..some day!! I keep watching videos of all the beautiful State/National parks but it'll have to wait until I can get away for longer periods of time. In the past, I have actually driven through parts of Ohio from Toronto but didn't get to spend much time. It's too bad the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley doesn't allow for camping anymore, but the iconic waterfall and rock formations are definitely things I'd want to see in person some day! I hope you continue to have some great camping adventures!

      Hi Kim, my trip this year is to travel north and camp in Mackinac Island MI and then travel across the U.S./Canadian border until I reach Glacier National Park where I plan to hike and camp. I’m hoping to travel to Nova Scotia,PEI and across to Quebec and Montreal. Thanks for responding back to this solo male camper😁

      Hi Dave - very nice plan! If you are travelling through on the Canadian side over Lake Superior and have some time, I would recommend stopping by to see Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park and hiking Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. The views at both are amazing. Although there are many many places to see along Lake Superior, these two would be top two. When you're in Nova Scotia, there's a lesser known place called The Ovens Park which is worth a visit/stay - it's a very interesting little place. If you like seafood, have a snack at Murphy's Fish & Chips to try their Digby Scallops! In Quebec and Montreal, just about any French restaurant is great to try. You may want to bring google translate in the Quebec city area to help with French only signage and menus. I've never been to Glacier National Park but have visited Jasper and Banff. I bet it will be spectacular there too!

    what roof box are you using? do you notice it has lots of road noise?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim 5 месяцев назад

      I'm using a Thule large size box and I think the model is the Convoy XT. I often forget it's even there and it doesn't make any noise at all. Usually I open the sunroof to take a look to make sure it's still up there haha. The mounting system is amazingly easy with its twist-to-tighten claws. Definitely try to wait for it to go on sale though.

    I just discovered your channel and just wanted to say how brave on you as a woman for doing those things. Great job and I love your outdoor lifestyle and camping setup! I also have a 24 CR-V. Do you mind telling us which bike carrier you are using as well as the bike?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim 5 месяцев назад

      Thank you! Sure, I'm using the CCM 2-Bike Platform Hitch Mount Bike Rack, added Fat Tire cradles (the tire trays can be changed) and I tightened up the whole thing more by adding an anti rattle hitch tightener too! Oh I also added LED brake strip lights to the carrier to make sure people can see me braking which plug right into the Honda trailer electrical harness. My bike is a NCM Aspen Plus which is pretty stock except for some mirrors and lights.

      @@campingwithkim Awesome thanks so much, you got a new subscriber! Also how do you prevent theft of your bike when unattended? Is there a quality lock you use?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim 5 месяцев назад

      Oh thank you!! For bike security, I inherited a very old 1" thick gauge bike cable lock which I loop through the bike, carrier and hitch bracket. I doubt they sell it anymore as I can't find anything like it anywhere. If I were to buy something new, I'd find the thickest cable or chain and lock it with a Kryptonite bike lock. I also have a black cover that I use to keep the bike out of plain sight if I leave it for a long time - like if I go for a day long hike. The cover also protects the bike when it rains. Hope that helps!

      Hello fellow Ontarian! :) In this video, I'm using a Danchel B2 Yurt/Bell tent. I cut my own ground tarp to protect the floor and the awning is just a random tarp with a pole which also doesn't come with the tent. Thanks for watching! :)

      @@campingwithkim Thank you thank you!! I noticed I have the same wood stove that you use in this particular video (it was on sale at Princess Auto so I had to try it), thouht I would try out the tent because I love how roomie it looks!

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim 5 месяцев назад

      No problem! Our Princess Auto stove sure was a very good buy! One more tip though, when pairing it with this tent in the future, I am thinking of getting some extra car exhaust pipe or changing to a roll-up chimney to extend the chimney height because this tent is 2.5 meters tall. When I set it up I didn't feel the Princess Auto stove chimney was quite tall enough yet - could use another 0.5 to 1 meter to make me feel better at night

    Great video! Can you please tell me what brand was the gas stove and cook stand you were using when making your soup.

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim 5 месяцев назад

      Thanks Edmund! The stove is a Widesea Camping Gas Stove. The stand didn't really have a brand, but I just searched for "stainless steel folding campfire grill stand" and a few options came up on amazon for me. The one I bought had these dimensions: Unfolded size: 32*22.5*29cm/10.6*8.7*11.4in Folded size: 27*24.5*1cm/10.6*9.6*0.4in but it was a bit too tall for this stove, so I just installed the legs backwards (the feet will spread out farther apart) and it lowered itself closer to this stove. Enjoy!

      Hehe yes, it’s an inflatable 2 person sofa which I can lounge around on. It’s big enough for me to really sink into and read a book or watch a movie. I haven’t had many chances to use it yet, but it definitely does help fill up some of the space in the tent too and give me some of that glamping feel 😊

Nonetheless, I hope you have a great time at Arrowhead this Winter. One day I may have to rent a tiny trailer to enjoy the conveniences of a towed base camp too! Enjoy!!
