  • Welcome to Camping with Kim - my new camping channel and my third adventure!
    Join me on my solo female winter car camping adventure during Canada’s winter season in my Honda CRV. This time I go to MacGregor Provincial Park about 3 hours north east of Toronto. This park is located along the cold waters of Lake Huron.
    I sleep in my cozy Honda CRV with a cargo box to have enough space for all my gear. For now, I just use a small ice fishing tent as my kitchen. I use electric space heaters and electric oil heaters in the tent and the car because I’ve only booked camping sites with electricity so far. I bring a propane heater as a backup in case there’s a power outage.
    This time I made several scenic stops along the way to the park to catch amazing frozen waterfalls and hike along calming rivers. I enjoy a Korean BBQ dinner and snowshoe along Lake Huron to watch crashing waves and visit some wildlife.
    This is definitely something I will do again! I hope you enjoy this video and get some ideas for your adventure. Or, drop a comment to give me some for mine!
    Thanks for watching!

    Hi Kim, Dave from Ohio. Enjoyed the beautiful winter scenery near Lake Huron. I have to admit that I am quite interested in camping there. But, I’m thinking of the fall season where the leaves are turning🍁🏕️. This might happen 🤔. Anyway, enjoyed the video
    Kim and the cute red squirrel eating. Thank you for sharing 🙏

      Hi Dave! Although I didn't catch it this time, the sunsets on Lake Huron are very nice too as it goes down over the water as well. Perhaps seeing the turning leaves with the sun setting would make a great video 😀 Thanks again for watching!

      Kim, I’m working in possibly setting my own channel. It would be nice to share my experiences. I’m still on the trial stage.

    As a commercial driver, ive always dreamt about buying a nice sized rig and a 40-53' trailer and redesigning it into a camper. Thats a far fetched dream but i love going camping in my current truck. I have everything I need, except a washroom. Ive got a bunk heater, fridge, microwave, tv, etc. My truck also has triple lockers which basically makes it a 4 wheel drive and 22.5" tires to get through the deeper snow. The only real thing i dont have is a woman to cuddle with whilewatching the snow fall, but my cat loves it.

    You should check out the IDOOGEN Octagon tent as it is fantastic for car camping and great all year round

      Thanks for the recommendation Kathleen! That tent looks great and I really like those pop-out style walls - so easy!

      @campingwithkim its very easy, and you can get the clear screens that you attach so you are protected from the rain but can still see the scenery around you. You can also get the part that attaches to your car.

    I miss my 2020 CRV Turbo , traded for a Toyota Rav 4 Prime ,no comparison the Honda was hands down the best of the two, 60,000 trouble free miles in the CRV. Might go back to Honda.

      I've enjoyed my Honda CRVs but I remember when I was looking, the Rav4 has a much better towing capacity which I wish the CRV had!

      @@campingwithkim I live in Northern Europe , I had a Manual transmission CRV 1.5 t with a 6 Speed gearbox it was Honda rated to tow 2000kgs or in old money 4409llbs I remember the salesman telling me the CRV with the CVT auto box towed less 1500kgs. It did have a Thule Tow hitch installed and I used it a handful of times to tow a horse box with a 900kg grey mare, it pulled with no issues what so ever. My Rav4 is only rated at the same 1500kgs but it has the CVT gearbox so "I am guessing"?Toyota dialled the capacity back to protect the gearbox from overheating and less warranty claims for them. The AWD in the CRV is far better in my opinion over the Toyota system which does tend to spin the front wheels more in the snow.

      @@campingwithkim When I lived in Toronto I went to Bronte Creek (Oakville) on a whim once for a couple nights...and it was great! I found a secluded spot in there, washroom close by (real, not vault) and only 10-15 min drive. There are even some trails, but the proximity to Toronto can't be beat. The ones on lake Erie are good too, Selkirk, Long point etc

    Do you have ski-like devices that go under your tires for use when you are stuck in the snow or mud? You can't go out in the middle of nowhere unprepared. Also,a small snow shovel is invaluable.

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  Год назад

      You're right - I don't have a set of real traction boards yet but so far I have a set of tire chains, a small folding metal shovel, tire inflator, tire plug kit, med kit, emergency blanket, some basic tools and buffer freeze dried foods. Thanks for lookin out!

    Hi.. what's the size of your Thule top box, is that XL?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  10 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Jake! it's a Thule Pulse Large. It really fits a lot of camping gear and the tool-less claw mounting system is amazingly simple to use. I like that I can put dirtier stuff up there that I don't want to put in the car where I sleep sometimes!

      Hi DJ, I hear your feeling of disdain. I'm by no means an expert camper and I'm just starting out camping so I don't have all the gear that other normal campers have. For me, I just try to make do with what I have to mainly enjoy the outdoors my own way. That's not to say that I haven't been adding to my collection as time goes on, but I try to watch my wallet too

      Thank you! I currently have Uniroyal Tiger Paw all season tires which have been surprisingly good in pretty deep snow so far. I have a set of chains stored in my spare tire well to give me some more confidence to explore just in case tho! Hope you enjoy your CRV too!
