  • Welcome to Camping with Kim - my new camping channel and my sixth adventure!
    Join me on my summer camping adventure to Presqu'ile Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada with my new 2023 Honda CRV. It’s just a short 2 hour drive from Toronto and one of the most beautiful and feature rich parks I’ve been to yet!
    Since the drive is so short this time, I only make one stop along the way which was to The Big Apple. It’s located right on the same highway exit as the park, so it was perfectly along the way for me. I remember stopping by and buying apple pies and climbing the big apple ever since I was young, but it’s been many years since I’ve gone back. It was great to see them still in business.
    I arrive at Presqu’ile Provincial Park pretty early so I setup to try a self-cooking meal on the beach and go on a marsh hike before heading to my camp site. I was able to reserve a beautiful lake front site facing Lake Ontario this time and the sounds of crashing waves were very therapeutic.
    I setup my tent on the beach to cook and eat in and sleep in my CRV. FYI - Later on, I find out that I’m not actually supposed to setup my tent on the beach - so don’t do what I did!
    Overnight, I see a dazzling light show in the sky and get visited by a small raccoon.
    The next day I quickly eat breakfast and pack up my tent so that I can go explore the rest of the park. I’m sure the next visitor will appreciate me leaving the site early anyway without keeping the site occupied while I’m away.
    Prequi’ile Provincial Park is “almost an island” as its French name implies and I read that there is a road that loops around much of the park which can be biked. That’s why I brought my eBike to ride around and enjoy the almost-island. I got to see a nice little lighthouse, a small information area showcasing the significance of the area and its history. Nice!
    I finish my trip by going on one last hike through a quiet and peaceful forest.
    This park is definitely a gem amongst the provincial parks available in Ontario. I feel like it has something for everyone and I’m already planning to come visit again!
    Thanks again for watching and see you at my next camping adventure!

    Hi Kim! You’re inspiring me. I love camping and haven’t gone in the past few years as my friends just aren’t campers. I used to be nervous to camp on my own as a female, but now that I’ve seen you and some others do it, I want to do it too. 😊👏🏻Have you ever run into an unsafe situation on your own. ? I would think sleeping in the car would make you feel a bit safer.

      Hi Moe! Thank you so much for your comment! I can relate and definitely had similar feelings when I first started going solo but since I started earlier this year, I haven’t run into any unsafe situations yet (thankfully!!). I am taking things slowly though - sleeping in my car definitely feels the safest overall from both animals, people and the environment and I still choose to do that sometimes. Lately, I’ve been trying to sleep outside in a tent as I have become more comfortable. I still make myself hyper aware of my surroundings and bring whatever is needed to help make me feel safer. Best of luck out there! It does feel great to go it alone sometimes!

    Hello Kim, this is Dave from Ohio. First time subscriber and I enjoyed this video. I’m a solo male camper who just restarted camping last year. What was interesting was that I to prefer instant tents, which is so easy to set up and I want to enjoy my time being surrounded by nature and playing with poles😂. I also own a CRV which I did a road trip to Yellowstone while camping along the way. But, the thing that interests me that you’re just over the border, Canada seems to have a lot of wonderful places to camp especially near Lake Ontario. Kim, I did enjoyed this video and plan to watch more. Thank you and bless you 🙏

      Hi Dave! Welcome and thank you so much for your kind words. That's great to hear that you've re-taken up camping which is such a nice way to travel and explore. It's on my list to explore across the boarder too ..some day!! I keep watching videos of all the beautiful State/National parks but it'll have to wait until I can get away for longer periods of time. In the past, I have actually driven through parts of Ohio from Toronto but didn't get to spend much time. It's too bad the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley doesn't allow for camping anymore, but the iconic waterfall and rock formations are definitely things I'd want to see in person some day! I hope you continue to have some great camping adventures!

      Hi Kim, my trip this year is to travel north and camp in Mackinac Island MI and then travel across the U.S./Canadian border until I reach Glacier National Park where I plan to hike and camp. I’m hoping to travel to Nova Scotia,PEI and across to Quebec and Montreal. Thanks for responding back to this solo male camper😁

      Hi Dave - very nice plan! If you are travelling through on the Canadian side over Lake Superior and have some time, I would recommend stopping by to see Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park and hiking Sleeping Giant Provincial Park. The views at both are amazing. Although there are many many places to see along Lake Superior, these two would be top two. When you're in Nova Scotia, there's a lesser known place called The Ovens Park which is worth a visit/stay - it's a very interesting little place. If you like seafood, have a snack at Murphy's Fish & Chips to try their Digby Scallops! In Quebec and Montreal, just about any French restaurant is great to try. You may want to bring google translate in the Quebec city area to help with French only signage and menus. I've never been to Glacier National Park but have visited Jasper and Banff. I bet it will be spectacular there too!

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  7 месяцев назад +1

      yes go for it!! At Presqu'ile, I stayed at High Bluffs site #59. If you look at the map, all of the ones along the water are awesome sites - going up odd numbers from 59 to 75, and then 78, 79, 95, 97, 99 and 100 are all pretty great sites with an awesome view. It can get very windy though as there's no tree protection so just be ready

    I just discovered your channel and just wanted to say how brave on you as a woman for doing those things. Great job and I love your outdoor lifestyle and camping setup! I also have a 24 CR-V. Do you mind telling us which bike carrier you are using as well as the bike?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you! Sure, I'm using the CCM 2-Bike Platform Hitch Mount Bike Rack, added Fat Tire cradles (the tire trays can be changed) and I tightened up the whole thing more by adding an anti rattle hitch tightener too! Oh I also added LED brake strip lights to the carrier to make sure people can see me braking which plug right into the Honda trailer electrical harness. My bike is a NCM Aspen Plus which is pretty stock except for some mirrors and lights.

      @@campingwithkim Awesome thanks so much, you got a new subscriber! Also how do you prevent theft of your bike when unattended? Is there a quality lock you use?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  4 месяца назад +1

      Oh thank you!! For bike security, I inherited a very old 1" thick gauge bike cable lock which I loop through the bike, carrier and hitch bracket. I doubt they sell it anymore as I can't find anything like it anywhere. If I were to buy something new, I'd find the thickest cable or chain and lock it with a Kryptonite bike lock. I also have a black cover that I use to keep the bike out of plain sight if I leave it for a long time - like if I go for a day long hike. The cover also protects the bike when it rains. Hope that helps!

    Hey Kim, nice vids! Just got a 24 CRV Sport too and just wondering where you got your bike rack from? Also noticed you got a kick sensor? Mines didn't come with that lol

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi OLahh, Thanks for watching! I got the rack from Canadian Tire and it's a CCM 2-Bike Platform Hitch Mount Rack. I got it on a good sale along with some points which made it a pretty good deal at the time. It is pretty stable and very easy to use but I added an anti-rattle stabilizer to tighten it down even more. That might be what you see as the kick sensor - I wish I had it but Honda didn't that to give me on my Sport either hehe.
      Here's the link to the CCM rack www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/ccm-2-bike-platform-hitch-mount-bike-rack-adjustable-fits-1-1-4-2-in-receiver-black-0401190p.0401190.html
      If you're in the states, I think many places carry a similar design - like this one at Home Depot www.homedepot.com/p/2-Bike-Platform-Hitch-Bike-Rack-BC-4071-2/321372897

    Hi Kim, Thank you for the video. I am from Vancouver Island and just had my first car camping at Goldstream provincial park with my little dog a month ago. Would you mind telling me the tent that you were using in the video? Is it hard to setup by one person?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  2 месяца назад +1

      Hi Selina, Nice to hear from you in Vancouver Island! The tent I used was the Coleman 8-Person Instant Cabin Tent but is an older model of this one: www.coleman.com/tents-canopies/tents-by-size/8-9-person-tents/8-person-instant-cabin-tent/SAP_2000018296.html As long as it's not windy, this is probably the easiest and quickest tents to setup solo. The only problem is that it's a bit heavy with all of its extending and folding poles, but the weight is a trade off for the ease of setup. If you don't count the time to peg down the tent, the whole tent can be fully standing within 5 minutes! For your little dog, I would also recommend putting an extra carpet or padding down on the inside to make it more comfy to lie down or roll around on, Thanks for watching!

    Strange how men don't put solo male camper but all women put solo female camper. Why is that? Is it supposed to be something extra special for women to go camping? I don't think so.
