  • Welcome to Camping with Kim - my new camping channel and my fifth adventure!
    Join me on my solo summer (and very hot) camping adventure to Marten River Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada with my new 2023 Honda CRV. It’s approximately a 4.5 hour drive north of Toronto but it’s quite scenic and quiet all the way there. I make a few stops to break up the drive and get to see some awesome things.
    At camp, I try out my new DIY bed platform and also a new small air conditioner to give me some relief from the summer heat. I couldn’t reserve an electrical site next to the water, so I brought my own DIY power source for the AC. The nights cooled down a bit so I was okay with just running a fan in the car at night with mesh window screens. Maybe next time I will try to setup the AC in the car if it’s hot enough.
    I woke up the next morning and saw a warning of critically poor air quality and learned that wildfire smoke had blown into the area. I decided it was safest to quickly pack up and evacuate because I’ve never seen the sky so smoky before. It looked pretty but I didn’t want to continue breathing it in after seeing the warning.
    All part of the adventure, right?
    Little did I know at the time that the smoke would continue to spread to Toronto and beyond Canada into parts of USA and Europe - Sorry neighbours! My heart goes out to all those affected and continue to fight the raging fires.
    Thanks again for watching and see you at my next camping adventure!

    Hi Kim, you are correct when to expect the unexpected when you had to evacuate early. The time spent at Marten River was very nice and falling asleep to the sounds of the wildlife. I to have a portable air conditioner which I’m planning to use, if necessary when I reach Bryce Canyon and the Arches in Utah in June. It can be very warm 🥵 so I’m coming prepared. Good idea about the bug netting about your head👍. I have to get one. Thank you the lake scenery when you kayaking. Very nice and peaceful. Looking forward to your adventure 🏕️🫶🙏

      Hi Dave - I hope we don't have a repeat of last year's forest fires. I still remember the air quality in the weeks after all the fires started were horrible. I agree with the air conditioner - it may sound weird to use one when camping, but sometimes it's just way too hot! For the bug hat - I really like that it keeps the net off my face even though I look a bit like a rice farmer! haha Thanks again for watching!

    Thanks so much for sharing. We came back from Wakami a few weeks back and the smoke wasn't too bad on most days. They're already saying the fires are going to be worse next year.

    Hello from the very quiet sunny Ozarks Kim! Another video of value. what kind of portable ac unit and where did you get it. did it keep you cool? thanks for sharing tight lines

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  Год назад +1

      Hi Phillip, the little AC unit is branded as Cool Ride but I think that it's just a rebranded generic unit meant for resale so it may have other brandings. I purchased it from Princess Auto here in Canada which is similar to Habor Freight in the USA. I felt really cool with the air blowing directly at me, but it struggles to keep the entire space of my 8 person tent cool when the sun is hitting hard. I recently tried running it in the car with the window covers up and it seemed to do much better at kept things cool. Overall I would say it's best to have limited expectations on a unit of this size

      Sure! I got it from Princess Auto here in Canada but it was on sale at the time - www.princessauto.com/en/250w-portable-air-conditioner-with-ac-dc-adapter/product/PA0008999047

    Great video I really enjoyed it ,but I have one question where are you storing all this stuff at ?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  Год назад +1

      Thanks! ah Yes, space was something I initially worried about too so I bought the largest sized roof box I could afford and I usually fit all of my outdoors/dirtier stuff up there (like my tent, chairs, tables, tarps, propane, etc.) For inside the car, I use 2 large totes - one is full of my camping tools and gadgets and the other is dedicated to my kitchen stuff. I move the totes and my other random stuff to the front seats at night when I sleep. My power bank and a cooler stays behind the front two seats on the floor. This storage setup has worked well for me so far

    what roof box are you using? do you notice it has lots of road noise?

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  4 месяца назад +1

      I'm using a Thule large size box and I think the model is the Convoy XT. I often forget it's even there and it doesn't make any noise at all. Usually I open the sunroof to take a look to make sure it's still up there haha. The mounting system is amazingly easy with its twist-to-tighten claws. Definitely try to wait for it to go on sale though.

    hi kim
    I'm a Korean, aren't you?
    looking for CRV to do camping, and i find your channel
    may i know your thule acc?
    i also want to install like your car
    thanks

    • @campingwithkim
      @campingwithkim  11 месяцев назад

      Hi Gil! I'm not Korean but I do love Korean food! It's a Thule Pulse Large and you will need to make sure your CRV has roof rails and cross bars installed to to mount it up there. I just had to order the Honda OEM cross bars because the my Sport trim came with the rails already.

      The AC is a Cool Ride 250W Portable Air Con -- here's the link from where I bought it -- not affiliated or anything www.princessauto.com/en/250w-portable-air-conditioner-with-ac-dc-adapter/product/PA0008999047
