Played this game for 8 hours straight today, trading the controller back and forth with my neice. This game is seriously creative, beautiful, and just straight up fun.
Omg, Super Rub-A-Dub. There's a long-running joke between my brother and I with that game. He had it on his PS3 and went to finally uninstall it. I was like NOO DON'T UNINSTALL RUBBER DUCKY GAME and I turned his PS3 off mid-uninstallation. The game is now stuck on his hard drive forever and he can't uninstall it anymore, unless he reformats his whole PS3 and we always joke about it now :D
For me it was Dunkey looking at the small dog robot and saying that he was the only one who knew what game it was referencing - Tokyo Jungle was the first Dunkey vid I ever saw!
These normally arent my type of games...but the amount of sheer fun, charm and effort even the smallest of interactions have in this game fills me with joy
Seeing custom animations for minor interactions with the level design equivalent of set dressing shows dedication and craft. Meanwhile, contrast that with Star Wars: Outlaws where the game is lukewarm Ubisoft slop but they made sure to program in the ability to pet random wildlife.
This is 100% my type of game and I hope it sells a bajillion times more copies than Concord to remind the industry and the gaming public as a whole that games don't have to be such dour, political agenda-riddled depression fests all the time. The interactivity and physics also ironically make Astro Bot feel more "quadruple-A" (in a good way) than most games that have slightly more stunning and realistic graphics, but otherwise have the interactivity, freedom and physics system of a bad licensed PS1 game from 1996.
@@monopoman Yeah, unfortunately there's a massive difference between being critically-acclaimed and being a commercial success, and so far Sony seems to have knee-capped the game's success in Japan (where I would imagine a more-whimsical game like this would do better) by drastically increasing the price of the base PS5, not that a constantly-on-the-move culture like Japan would really want a home console or anything not as portable as the Switch or smartphones either way. Hopefully the word of mouth ensures this game at least makes its budget back.

There was no need for all the physics objects, they literally add nothing to the gameplay, but they’re one of the most fun things about the game. I’m amazer it’s even running.
I almost wish I hadn't gotten a PS5 as a surprise gift last Christmas. I would have been spared the emotional rollercoaster that is Sony in 2024 (not that I would have been spared the emotional rollercoaster of the 2024 US Election, but at least I would have had only one emotional rollercoaster to deal with this year instead of two). Unfortunately, Astro Bot's impact is already being diminished by Sony's catastrophic decisions elsewhere. For example, it is bombing in Japan because Sony inflated the price of a PS5 there by a whopping $200 (Imagine paying around $699 just for the base PS5, not even the PS5 Pro), further proving they have abandoned the Japanese market. Dunkey and MoistKritikal are probably making videos of this game right now in a desperate attempt to ensure it at least sells well in Western countries. The last thing we need from Sony is to be disappointed in Astro Bot's sales and conclude they need to remake Concord for another 8+ years and double the budget of the original to win gamers back--and only make it playable on the PS7 Pro Max Overdrive retailing at $6,990,000 (PS7 Pro Max Overdrive not included with price).
I love how at 11:24 for that whole level you can just hear dunkey smiling behind the microphone because he's so happy to have another great water level in a platformer.
That water level is Deep Dark Galaxy, Cosmic Cove Galaxy, and the Lake Kingdom from SM Odyssey all rolled into one, and then they gave it the best underwater level music since DKC's Aquatic Ambience.

I don't think it should get "best" treatment. A lot of PlayStation exclusives are full of substance, at least in terms of story and morals and dialogue. This game is pure fun and that's awesome, but personally I can't disregard that aspect

How is it a game with pieces of every game ever released to a platform has more originality and personality than a self proclaimed AAAA title? Truly a mystery of game design.
It really isn’t that original, it’s just really well executed. Fusing a collectathon with smash levels of references is kinda new tho. It feels refreshingly full of heart. This was a product the team not only wanted to make but enjoyed making. And there was no way the Sony execs thought it would be that big a deal so they probably weren’t micromanaging and breathing down the devs necks. The rest of the AAA industry is too caught up with making a product while this was about making a fun nostalgia passion project.
shame its selling poorly so we're just going to continue to get 30+ hour semi open world action games, despite the internet swearing they want these types of games and they'll all buy them.

There was no need for all the physics objects, they literally add nothing to the gameplay, but they’re one of the most fun things about the game. I’m amazer it’s even running.

I almost wish I hadn't gotten a PS5 as a surprise gift last Christmas. I would have been spared the emotional rollercoaster that is Sony in 2024 (not that I would have been spared the emotional rollercoaster of the 2024 US Election, but at least I would have had only one emotional rollercoaster to deal with this year instead of two).
Unfortunately, Astro Bot's impact is already being diminished by Sony's catastrophic decisions elsewhere. For example, it is bombing in Japan because Sony inflated the price of a PS5 there by a whopping $200 (Imagine paying around $699 just for the base PS5, not even the PS5 Pro), further proving they have abandoned the Japanese market. Dunkey and MoistKritikal are probably making videos of this game right now in a desperate attempt to ensure it at least sells well in Western countries. The last thing we need from Sony is to be disappointed in Astro Bot's sales and conclude they need to remake Concord for another 8+ years and double the budget of the original to win gamers back--and only make it playable on the PS7 Pro Max Overdrive retailing at $6,990,000 (PS7 Pro Max Overdrive not included with price).

Astro Bot looks like great fun, but it's also a reminder of all the Franchises Sony has abandoned over the years.
I love how at 11:24 for that whole level you can just hear dunkey smiling behind the microphone because he's so happy to have another great water level in a platformer.
That water level is Deep Dark Galaxy, Cosmic Cove Galaxy, and the Lake Kingdom from SM Odyssey all rolled into one, and then they gave it the best underwater level music since DKC's Aquatic Ambience.

I don't think it should get "best" treatment. A lot of PlayStation exclusives are full of substance, at least in terms of story and morals and dialogue. This game is pure fun and that's awesome, but personally I can't disregard that aspect

It's actually very clever that you beat the monkey boss by destroying its teeth. Simians rely on their teeth to break down and digest food and so without them they will starve to death. It's cool to see a studio implement obscure zoological knowledge into a boss fight!

How is it a game with pieces of every game ever released to a platform has more originality and personality than a self proclaimed AAAA title? Truly a mystery of game design.
It really isn’t that original, it’s just really well executed. Fusing a collectathon with smash levels of references is kinda new tho.
It feels refreshingly full of heart. This was a product the team not only wanted to make but enjoyed making. And there was no way the Sony execs thought it would be that big a deal so they probably weren’t micromanaging and breathing down the devs necks. The rest of the AAA industry is too caught up with making a product while this was about making a fun nostalgia passion project.
shame its selling poorly so we're just going to continue to get 30+ hour semi open world action games, despite the internet swearing they want these types of games and they'll all buy them.
Now that its successfull, we'll get 1 launch title astroboy game with every new console from here on out for sure.

I'm so surprised people are saying this. There is no comparison to Xbox, and I feel like between the switch and PS5 there is not a clear winner in terms of exclusives. As a PS5 owner, I feel like I have a really wide library of games that come out often
