But a hybrid? If I have an AIO cooler, I want it to remove heat from a spreader. If there's fans on the card, I don't want a pump and water.
It combines all the drawbacks, I can see why someone would buy into a compact AIO aesthetics but not why you compromise on a largeish card plus radiator.

@@zuckdaddy1596 Don't just base it on amount of memory - the 3080 has GDDR6X with 48% higher memory bandwidth and a 320bit bus as opposed to the 6800XT's 256bit bus. Thus far at 4k they perform about the same, so it seems neither are currently running into memory issues at all, and probably won't for some time. Remember also that it's unlikely any game will have 10GB+ textures on screen at once - memory preloads and caches textures, so having faster memory that can load and unload information faster is likely just as effective as more memory.

(its obviously way more complex than that but I'm just trying to explain)
AMD's old cards (GCN1-5) where huge parallel monsters but games don't profit from that, to get anywhere with GCN in games they needed to push the clocks to fill the buffer faster.(that clock pushing was the reason for the higher power draw from AMD, in data centers where the parallelism was needed there more reasonable)
Nvidia's chips use less (now with ampere that has changed a bit, now they have a huge amount of weaker pipelines) but faster pipelines that can be fed faster to execute a instruction.
RDNA1 has reduced the GCN buffer so that you only needed 2 instructions to start calculations , with GCN you needed to fill up 4 instructions before ANY calculation was triggered.
RDNA2 I'm not sure about but it seems reasonably to assume that they have removed the buffer filling requirement entirely and reduced the pipeline count for each CU but the faster clock makes up for that.

For the last week, i watched way too many videos on 6800XT, 6900XT, 3080 or 3080TI and could not decide which one to go for. Had a strict budget and my old card had to fund 50 % of the cost of the new one.
I previously used an AORUS GeForce RTX™ 2080 Ti XTREME WATERFORCE 11G AIO and i loved that card and served me well for 2 years but showing really can't do 4K very well.
I ended setting my sight on another AIO liquid cooling GPU as i need a serious boost in FPS for 4K gaming.
Now I'm 4 hours in, here is my take
    1) This card is whisper quiet underload even in my Thermaltake open case . Love the auto fan off mode.
    2) No issue with pump noise or coilwhine so far, touch wood.
    3) Steve is right, the cables sucks, looks ridicious. Performance is far better than I expected in my rig as I have had lots of issues running the 2080 TI lately, I think it’s nvidia driver and windows 10 update issues.
    4) Lighting on this card looks great and I’m don’t particularly like RGB. i set it to a single colour (static) - I posted a quick video on my account if you want to see what it looks like.
    5) The tubes are very warm, i don't recall the AORUS had this issue but to be fair, those fans on the radiator were constantly on.
I took a leap of faith going to the RED team, last time I went with AMD was back 2015, freaking wasting money pairinng two Radeon R9 295X2 in crossfire (4 GPUs) to get Witcher 3 run above 100fps in 3440x1440.. LOL - that project ended in tears and i ended going to Nvidia on a single card ever since.
I highlightly recommend this card if you are into 4K gaming, want better than 60fps 4K performance, freesync premium, whisper quiet AIO liquid cooling and willing to forgo Ray Tracing & DLSS and lower the graphical settings. Apparently what happened with pricing is down to logistics. AIBs usually ship cards on commercial flights since there's usually extra room and it's cheap, but due to COVID, commercial flights are in short supply and are more expensive. This leaves them with shipping expensively by air, or shipping for cheap by ship. Shipping by ship would mean the cards would arrive after Christmas, so for now, they're kinda forced to ship by plane, the cost of which is passed down to the consumer.

    • @burnsyd17
      @burnsyd17 3 года назад +1

Here's what I'm sure is going on with these high-end-only Radeon launches. The silicon appears to be extremely limited relative to demand. That means the pure market "auction" (scalper) price is high. The board partners, holding the limited silicon, have 3 options. They can sell basic near-MSRP cards for near MSRP, and make a little bit of money on that precious silicon. They could also make basic cards and sell at the full price the market can bear, which is super unpopular and draws comparisons to scalping. Or, they can wrap that precious silicon in super über top-end glitz, and THEN sell it for much closer to market price without looking like absolute wankers. When supply can't meet demand, there is pressure to push upmarket. Selling basic 6800XTs right now makes no sense; they'd just be leaving money on the table that would be 100% claimed by scalpers, who only exist to bridge gaps between MSRP and market price. Either Asus gets the money, or a scalper does. It's just the way it is when there's a gap. Happens with cars too; if there's a wait for a hot new car, all of the first batch are loaded models. I'm actually really surprised that Nvidia partners aren't doing the same; that tells me that Nvidia are probably issuing some big "thou shalt nots" and "or elses" to their partners.

Look, I wanted a Big Navi when RDNA 2 launched. I sold my 5700 XT; which I really enjoyed and then got stuck right when the prices went through the ROOF. That said, the XFX Qick 6700 XT Black I just installed today is a Stone Cold Killer!! I'm getting boost of 2884Mhz on a 1st attempt, moderate goal setting OC and it does it as 51c Max. That's knucking futz and it kills games maxed out at 1440p and 4k. My 3dmark numbers are #1 for a 6700 XT period in half of the tests and I'm rocking an "old" Zen 2 3950X. Versus the ~$500 more RTX 3070 or RX 6800 on the current market I'm getting better performance than the 3070 around half the time and am beating ~%50 of the RX 6800's that have their test results in their database. Yes, I want Big Navi and I would take a 3070 (though that 8gb buffer sucks; especially the way I'd run it..), but Do Not right off Navi 22 or the 6700 XT. I compared it to my old Super OC 1080Ti too and the efficiency and performance is absolutely representative of Two Generations of (abiet different brand) architectures and node advances. 6800 xt overclocked performe as same as 3090, and 6900 xt almost here, Nvidia is in big problem.

I would say that too if anyone could buy any o these cards, but almost nobody does so...

You forget that you also can overclock a 3090... As an example a Strix can use 480 Watts... So, no chance there for AMD... Those things that everyone always forgets are the features and the software... DLSS, RayTracing, Hardwareencoding, Hardware acceleration... In all of those things AMD still has no chance.

At 1440p for sure, though at 4K nvidia wins in most benchmarks. Though am still curious how the 6900XT will fare at higher resolutions.
Still, 3090 is nice for content creation.

Comparing an overclocked card to a non-oc'd card.... My toyota with its gas pedals down is faster than a parked ferrari too... lmao

Couldn't be happier with my 3080, I game at 4k where the 3080 slaps the 6800XT and DLSS and raytracing are both game changers at this resolution. AMD offer no alternative to DLSS and unplayable ray tracing performance at 4k.

Who thinks the 6900 will just be a 6800xt with higher power/clock/mem limits

    • @Winnetou17
      @Winnetou17 3 года назад +2

And slightly more cores, yeah. A 6900 with this kind of cooling should be able to hit those 3 GHz. Which would be ... almost 10% faster than the OC version of what Steve showed us here ?

Possibly (and also 4 more CUs?). That being said 6800 XTX sounds better.

Mabey the 6800xt is the same chip but with deactivated Cu’s

Love your videos Steve. Nice to see world leading Aussie content in the RUclips tech space. Don't think I would bother with this card myself, even if available at a sane price down under. I'm too much of an old school gamer to need ultimate frame rates and massive resolutions. As a 3D CAD jockey by trade I do need to upgrade my aging GTX 1080(non-Ti) soon, though it still performs well in most situations, the real-time rendering visualisation stuff I do could do with a boost. I'll be looking at what can double my performance within a 250 watt power budget. Reference 6800 looks like it might be ideal, or possibly 6700 when it's out. If nVidia get Ampere on 7nm soon that would be worth a look too. I might be spoilt for choice in the new year. My budget is about a grand AU, so here's hoping prices normalise once availability increases.

You may need to add about a year to your 4 month estimate. You are too optimistic.

As far as increased prices are concerned - MLID speculated that this could be due to increased logistics costs in the short term due to fewer suitable transport flights being available. (Ships take longer and have not fully arrived and in stock, yet.)

Heard a few people suggest the choice of shipping the high end models first, at such high prices, is due to shipping costs around this time of year. It's a lot easier to justify shifting up MSRP to account for expensive air freight on the high end cards compared to the budget models. Apparently much of the shipping capacity has been bought up by bigger companies like Apple to secure stock for holiday shopping. Not sure how much water this holds but it would explain the situation.

I love it when you reviewers showcase products that dont exist. If you told these suppliers that your not going to talk about products that are not available, this might teach them a lesson and it might make you look less stupid.

I am a bit concerned about the durability of the card itself... As we know, all in liquid cooler systems usually last about 4-5 years before having problems with the pump or with liquid temperature.
Im wondering if there is a way to swap the cooler with a new one, once the old one passes out

I bought the Aorus 2080 Super Waterforce last year with a similar All-In-One liquid cooled solution; and it too had the messy wiring going up to the fans. I wanted to synchronize all the fans in my case, so i replaced them anyways. But to do this I had to open up the graphics card to unplug the fans from the PCB... And this had me extremely nervous, as it was a brand new $800 card that required me to lose its warranty/return policy. But I did it, and it definitely cleaned up the look of my PC. The entire case was lined with Corsair QL series fans, instead of having a couple of oddball Gigabyte Aorus branded RGB fans mixed in.
