  • George Wagner, IV is standing trial for the April 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden and Gilley families. Wagner IV faces 22 counts including eight counts of aggravated murder with death penalty specifications, aggravated burglary, conspiracy, tampering with evidence and forgery.
Wagner’s brother, Edward “Jake” Wagner, and his mother, Angela Wagner, have already pleaded guilty to taking part in the conspiracy to murder the eight Rhoden and Gilley family members over their desire to obtain full custody of the then two-year-old daughter Jake shared with victim Hanna May Rhoden. Angela and Jake Wagner have agreed to testify against their family members.
George “Billy” Wagner, the father of Jake and George, faces the same 22 counts.
On the morning of April 22, 2016, family members found Chris Rhoden, Sr., 40, and his cousin, Gary Rhoden, 38, dead in Chris’ mobile home on Union Hill Rd. Chris Sr.’s ex-wife, Dana Manley Rhoden, 37, and their children, Hanna May Rhoden, 19, and Chris Rhoden Jr., 16, were found shot in the head in their sleep in their mobile home down the road. Hanna May had given birth days earlier to a baby girl who was not harmed. Clarence "Frankie" Rhoden, 20 and his fiancee, Hannah "Hazel" Gilley, 20, were also found shot to death in their sleep. Their six-month-old son was in between them covered in blood but unharmed. Frankie’s four-year-old son was unharmed in the home as well.
Kenneth Rhoden, 44, was found shot once in the eye in his camper on Left Fork Rd. more than seven miles away.
Angela Wagner’s mother, Rita Newcomb, pleaded guilty in 2019 to a misdemeanor count of obstruction. She had been charged with forgery and obstruction of justice for lying about signing and notarizing custody documents related to Hanna May, Jake and George’s children. Newcomb has agreed to testify against her family members.
Billy Wagner’s mother, Fredericka Wagner, was initially charged with obstruction of justice and forgery for allegedly lying about purchasing a bullet-resistant vest for Billy. The charges were dropped after it was discovered a plate in the vest was manufactured after the homicides. Prosecutors have said they may refile the charges at a later date. Fredericka has been subpoenaed to testify.
    The victims:
    Christopher Rhoden Sr., 40
his ex-wife Dana Manley Rhoden, 38,
their children Christopher Rhoden Jr., 16, Hanna May Rhoden, 19, and Clarence “Frankie” Rhoden, 20,
Christopher Sr.’s cousin Gary Rhoden, 38,
    Sr.’s brother Kenneth Rhoden, 44,
and Frankie’s fiancée Hannah “Hazel” Gilley, 20
The Wagners did it so they could get custody of the young daughter Jake had with his ex Hanna Rhoden, prosecutors said. Jake indeed won sole custody of the child, now 8, after the murders. The Wagners moved to Alaska. That all changed after authorities arrested them in November 2018, sparking a legal battle lasting almost four years.

This is most likely one of the most high profile capital murder cases in OH history and this prosecutor was the only one available? She was clearly outmatched on the stand by a serial liar who is not intimidated by the law and probably is more well versed in the law than she is. She needed to think like a liar in her cross examination questions to impeach the testimony of a professional liar. He performed well on the stand because he was born and raised by criminals who were manipulative liars so he learned from the best. He always had to have an answer to everything for law enforcement so he is a pro. The prosecutor underestimated this and hope it does not cost her a hung jury.

It’s beyond disturbing… He doesn’t mention confronting his family about the murders if he didn’t know about them with all the press the family was getting. And if he really didn’t like being around his family and saw what everyone was saying about them “possibly” committing the murders why wouldn’t be separate himself from his family before moving to Alaska.. It’s honestly a slap in the face to the victims and anyone who thinks he did a good job on the stand is delusional!! He is fighting for his freedom and has had years to get this down pat. Now that both of those expectations have been proven wrong, I imagine the prosecution is starting to panic and get a bit flustered, which would explain why the female prosecutor seems to be getting more and more frustrated as she cross examines him.

They helped pay the bills together because Angela didn't work outside the home and probably not much on the inside of the home either from a picture I saw online. They probably used whatever credit card or cash they had on hand. Stealing wouldn't exactly be steady income. Just because they did this doesn't prove anything. Two murders as witnesses aren't even believable. They both admitted to being liars. Jake takes out things and adds in things? What the heck does that mean? He makes it up as he goes along basically. Whatever fits what he wants. Con artist. He would say anything to keep from dying, but it didn't matter to him that his victims died a brutal death. Two of them saw it coming for a few seconds. Their last two seconds on earth was seeing him come at them. He and Angela should get the death penalty without question.

People, stay out of everybody’s business, I don’t care if it’s your mum, dad or sibling.
I am a female with 4 brothers, there is no way they would beat or even kill anyone for me nor would I expect them too!
Once your grown, have kids and get married…get the heck out of your parents house and go live your life, especially if it’s toxic!!
8 people dead because the Warner’s wanted total control over the little children, nobody has won here and God help those kids going forward when they here all of this.
    This is madness!

After hearing George If I was on the jury I would have reasonable doubts. The rest of the family I would put under the prison cell.

George is believable and I’m starting to think he is innocent! Prosecutor is horrible! I think he will walk!

didnt George state that his dad would come home with hundreds of thousands of dollars in bags and had money buried in many places. And yet he didn't have the money to pay cash for the house?

This prosecutor Angela Canepa was NOT impressive at all in Cross Examination...she didn't catch George off guard at all, he seemed to outwit her on every question,...Canepa operated at a snail's pace...constant long pauses between questions, which slowed down the cross examination, not effective at, I was extremely bored with this slow tactic ineffective questioning she was fidgeting with her glasses ,paper ,pen Etc....She could have got him in several gotcha questions, but, Canepa failed miserably...if it wasn't for Jake and Angela Wagner's plea deal testimony they would have nothing on George,... But in the end he had to know of it all and the jury probably find him guilty in the horrific senseless killings of these 8 people ,may they rest in peace.

They didn’t prove George knew anything and there’s a good possibility that he didn’t. Did he might think it, yes….but know for sure no….I believe George and I hope the jury lets him walk.

I thought the complete opposite. I thought she was masterful at exposing all points at which George's testimony makes no sense. She exposed every time that he changed his story, which was countless times. He has had years to rehearse this. A lot of which is a different story than what he told agents before he got arrested. His story makes no sense.

Today's prosecutor is so inept that if I'm sitting on the jury, it makes me favor this defendant.
