Guilty...the nail in his coffin for me was when he was asked if the dogs were barking more than usual at any time and he answered something to the effect "why would they, there wasn't anyone there they didn't know"...
He also said the 'guineas' would holler and kick up a row if any strangers were about!

I wish both sides would stop saying "the boat case." It was the murder of Mallory Beach. She had a name and she was a human being.
They could at least call it the Mallory Beach case. Boat case sounds so casual. I understand why AM calls it that, because he doesn’t care. But it would be nice if professionals recognized the severity

There’s no way in hell a man sitting with some cognitive ability was using £50,000 a month on drugs. It’s a ludicrous defence. He’d be dead. That meant, if true he was taking 300 or 400 or 500 pills a day. It’s just totally unbelievable. He’d be brain dead.

When you meet people addicted to opiates, they have coped for a while but they NEVER cope year after year. Just go down to the mean streets of any city and you will see people addicted to drugs. They can’t have jobs because their brains are fried. They are leaning up an against walls. No way He was taking 1000 mg a day, day after day. He probably was taking some and got caught and then made it like he had a big addiction to get sympathy.

He begged his wife, who didn’t want to come, to show up just to go inside and not spend time with her and she ends up murdered. Why did he want her there so badly? Why isn’t he concerned the killers will come after Buster? So many things that make me believe he’s guilty.

Exactly! We don't know what really happened when MM got home. AM might have said one of the dogs at the kennels was sick to make her feel she had to come and go down there, just to make it seem real it was someone else than him, there's so many possibilities how he could have lured her and Paul down there. Not once did we hear him express frustration or anger over that the "reel" killer is out there while he's inaccurate accused. He haven't given many honest explanations to make the loose ends add up, he even lied to the jury. His language when talking about Maggie and Paul is either distancing or overly close paw-paw and Mags, it comes across as very staged. I do also believe he's guilty - for so many reasons.

Exactly and the first thing he does after his wife and son had been murdered was save his own behind by lying to everyone including law enforcement who were trying to find who killed them and settle the money he owed to the people he stole from… the first thing I’d want to do if my loved ones were killed would be to do anything I could to find out who killed them. He had no sense of urgency about this because he knew that wasn’t an issue. His issue was to figure his money problems and keep up this facade.

He’s a good man.., a good lawyer and prosecutor…and sure knows how to explain his case both to the witnesses and the gallery…,and the millions watching on about 18 different networks,,think the whole world is watching his oratory,.his fluency and speaking skills keep everyone listening ..,we’ll see what happens…!
He ask his wife to come she did not wanted but he insisted, only his son and his wife he wanted at the house, he premeditated their murder because his wife was going to ask for a divorce and his son's trial was going to make him broke. I feel they should have focused on his motive for killing his family rather than the fact he was a drug addict.

The prosecutor s voice, to me has a very compelling voice and way of wording... He s serious and he s a man of integrity: this lawyer wants justice. This lawyer believes all the evidence leads to one person - Alex Murdaugh.
I thot he let a lot get by in the trial but he did well in the closing argument. I just hope the Jurors fully understand they dont need to have AM on film doing it. There was one woman for the prosecution on the stand that POOTER argued with! I would hav snapped back at him "No only ONE!" The Prosecutor should hav questioned her again just to re emphasize "2 shooters is just ONE theory" bc POOTER snapped at her that it was MORE than just one Theory.

I think the closing argument was good. The unraveling of his hidden lies and lawsuits was probably the final straw of a life out of control.

His friends and family were complicit in Alex’s crimes but he most certainly should be required to compensate his innocent victims no matter how many lawyers and politicians and drug smugglers and judges have to be implicated when his cabal of co-conspirators are uncovered.
I think he's a drug addict and someone wanted revenge on his entire family. It's a circumstantial case. The whole case is. No murder weapon, no mess at the house and you can't clean up blood they claim. They may convict but there's no direct evidence. The prosecutor's a dick also. Came off as one.

avoiding consequences.....that sums up his whole life. A commentor said they knew Alex in middle school and even then he was always pushing the envelope, trying to get away with as much as he possibly could. His parents never held him accountable, and that parenting style continued with Paul and Buster. Neither of them ever had to face consequences, or the boat wreck and expulsion from law school wouldn't have happened. This is the first time in his life Alec has had to face consequences, and boy are they whoppers.
I liked the Judge Newman I 've seen him in another case.And the way he spoke today at the sentence of(RAM) left my brain with some questions like the Judge Newman was digging down into RAM soul .
This man stole as another person commented, not to provide food or shelter to his family but because of entitlement, greed. He did this to people who were suffering, doing without. Oh yeah, he thinks he’s better than thou and i cant stand him. If he is aquited for murder i hope to hell he’s put in prison for his financial crimes and for a long time. His stealing/financial crimes is the motive for the murders. He did not want to be caught. He actively lied to the people close to him. The boat accident, and Alex not being able to get Paul off, started the decent to the murders.
If you put yourself in Alex's position when the sh#t was about to hit the wall, now include his fear, paranoia and maybe drug use now add in the scenario he set up on the side of the road and you can definitely believe that in his state of mind that he could definitely kill his own family to buy himself some more time

You almost never get ‘proof’ in a criminal case
But you get bits of evidence which if taken in the round lead together to a conclusion.
‘Reasonable doubt ‘ is not any old doubt - there has to be something definite that leads you to think he might not have done it.
Circumstantial evidence is as real as direct.

I came to the same conclusion before I even saw these voiding remarks. There is no doubt in my mind Alec murdered his wife Maggie and son Paul. He called them there. He lied about being there. He had every intention of killing them and he did.

Here a complete laywoman, knows nothing about law proceedings, but having watched parts of this trial (quite a few!), can only say Hats Off to these prosecutors. The way they have reasoned through this oh-so-twisted case and taken into consideration all the doubts the jury may have, has been a lesson in itself.

He's convinced me! So convoluted but he's laid it all out very well. I saw some first responder body cam video last night. Maggie's body wasn't as far from Paul's as I thought she was. Sometimes I get a strong feeling on whether or not someone is lying. I don't in this case, I think because the evidence is just so monumental that I know he's lying. I didn't need instinct. I'm just sad that Maggie and Paul were aware that husband and father was shooting to kill them. He should have killed himself instead.
AM clearly wanted to eliminate financial liability for the boat case by killing Paw Paw and any alimony/settlement for Mags pending divorce- why aren’t these a part of the prosecution’s argument?
The prosecution did go over many times that killing his son would nix the settlement he would have had to pay to the Beach family.
Maggie. Wasn't looking to divorce Alex she enjoyed the prestige of being a Murdoch, until Maggie's parents die Maggie has no added income ,Maggie didn't want to leave she wanted the pretige of being a Murdoch.

I’ve watched this trial and I have gone from thinking that he didn’t kill his wife and son to believing beyond a doubt that he did kill them. He was only trying to save himself.
This Prosecution has done a phenomenal job of proving their case.
It's just impossible to see how anyone else c ould have done this. He's RIGHT there at the crime scene, doesn't hear or see anyone else come in. Happens to leave for 1.5 hrs, but lies about the kennels? Must knew they were killed shortly after he was there, not some time later during his absence. Dude's screwed.
Maybe I missed it, but why hasn't the fact that Maggie went to a divorce attorney been mentioned? I think that's very important for the jury to hear.

It appears likely that Alex’s “friends” convinced the counsel Maggie consulted that he would be wise to keep his mouth shut or they’d do it for him.

How can you sit there hearing about your youngest son having his brain blown out almost intact without moaning out aloud, same applies to Buster hearing about his brother and mum being butchered. I mentioned a few days back that in Scotland we have a verdict of 'not proven' and got a nippy reply to that and lo and behold the Defence mentioned that very fact in their Closing Argument - unfortunately I think this may be the case here which means a not guilty 😕 verdict in the USA - have enjoyed watching this very unique case.
Even with a hung jury, they will just retry the case. Statistics are that if there’s a retrial, the defendant will go down so far, the state has put in $1.1 million into this it would be political suicide not to retry this case now.

@@amandacoachman7466 yes, they’d retry but it could also have the same outcome, if they couldn’t get a verdict the first time around they won’t ask for the DP the second time, people are more likely not to convict if there’s not enough evidence, also these people are from there and there’s still a certain type of respect for his fathers that I don’t think they would hand it down, that’s why they didn’t ask for it this time, their case just isn’t strong enough to ask for it..
He also committed comitted MEDICAID fraud, $50,000 of the settlement was to pay the hospital where Gloria was for 3wks. Total charges were $675,000 & that should have been paid if theres a suit so whether he paid any or not he would be liable. But he only worked $50k into the budget for the Hosp but they never got any. They should also charge the Female Judge who signed off on it bc there was no docket # assigned to it & a Judge cant make a Judgement unless there is: it was never filed with the court! AM, the other Atty, the Banker & the Judge: all guilty.

There really isn't any hard evidence. Its all circumstantial. I do think he is guilty, but have has the prosection proven guilty beyond all reasonable doubt? Im positive he is a liar, a thief and a horrible horrible person. Im not 100% sure he committed murders. There is just no hard evidence.
Well there has been hundreds of innocent people go to jail whom the prosecutors have been “so sure” they were guilty and convinced 12 jurors that could get were only to find out 10 or 20 years later that they were innocent. Anyone including the prosecutors could be full of shit!

The best takeaway from this closing argument and the one I believe some Jurors might not pay close attention is : What is NOT the definition of "Reasonable Doubt".
In plain English the meaning of Reasonable Doubt is generally speaking.." doubt based on reason". But it is NOT such "That has to overcome every POSSIBLE doubt". If there are jurors that have some doubts they need to understand, they should consider finding Alex guilty based on evidence and other facts.

If I was a defense attorney, I would be nailing the timeline . They were both alive at 8:49 minimum. He was out the driveway in his car at 9:06. In that short time, he killed two people, hid 2 weapons, washed and showered, got back to his home, placed a few calls and disposed of Maggie’s phone with no reported damage or even dirt attached by dropping at 42 mph? He’s a despicable human being, who is entitled, and will face over 90 charges, and he may well be a murderer as well, but I have a serious problem with the timeline, and to be honest, with his history of knowing about the law and all the problems, he was already facing, in a state of shock. It would not surprise me That he would be inconsistent, and want to deny being at the scene of the crime. Not justifying it just saying, I think a lot of people would panic in that situation, and possibly lie. And lying seems to come easily to this man. Sadly, I saw the same cold eyes in his son Buster. A few times that he looked up, in his testimony, sent chills through my entire body.
Why would he lie about not being there? How could he leave without hearing shotguns, screams, dog’s barking? The only innocent explanation is someone he doesn’t know came just as he was leaving, murdered his wife and son, leaving no footprints or other clues, immediately left, and for unknown reasons he changed shirts, lied about being at the kennel, lied about being at his moms 40 minutes, and returned to the scene. You have to believe he lies about everything else except this.
17 minutes is plenty of time to kill 2 people. He put the guns in the truck. He probably had gloves on and a raincoat while wearing a hood to cover his hair/head. All he had to clean on his body was his face. The clothes were put in the truck with the guns and he drove back up to the house to get his phone that he left on purpose. Then he drove to his parents. He threw the phone on the way to his parents. Did Alex know the phone would be found? Probably. Creates confusion to look like 2 shooters. Everything he did was planned to look like 2 shooters and his entire confirmed lies was to create a planned Alibi. When he called 911 Everything he said was immediately creating a Alibi. When LE first arrived he was standing exactly were the shooter stood to kill Maggie. Why was he standing exactly were the shooter stood? It was to trample on the scene and he knew his foot prints were there. Another cover up of his mistake. He did not think to protect Buster until 45 minutes after he called 911. And his brother actually was the one that asked Alex is Buster ok? And of course the biggest lie. What innocent person would lie about not being at the kennels? A innocent person would provide every detail to try and figure out what happened and try and catch the killer. Alex Murdaugh did the exact opposite of what a innocent person would do. Of course this is just my opinion. But I believe beyond a reasonable doubt he is Guilty.

I believe he stole Paul's rifle in Dec 2022. He planned to have two more murder weapons to defend the lie of two shooters, Schemed and plotted their murders for months and set it up.
He had all weapons on that golf cart when he got to the kennels but was distracted about that chicken and the dog tail injury which Paul had the video of and that Paul was trying to send it to Rhogan but never got to because he was murdered seconds later by the first shot which didn't get the job done so the second weapon was used.
Maggie saw the second shot and was running towards Paul but was gunned downed with the Blackhawk by Alex who quickly hosed off and switched into dry clothes and sped home to finish off the crime stories.
He went on to his Mom's where he hid plenty of crime evidence made fake calls to his dead wife and son but the Lord was busy saving them through Paul and Rhogans truths who had the evidence in that video and that missed call.
In todays world crimes catch up to defendants by the time the weapons are laid to rest.

The prosecutor fails to make the ultimate connection in one simple sentence. Alex slaughtered his family to shut them up and buy time. Period.
The prosecutor did state that AM needed to buy himself time and that the murders were one thing that, for awhile, did do just that.
And also get loads of sympathy so no-one would question him about anything.
I think he also resented Paul, and never forgave him for the boat accident, which inevitably cost Alex millions in civil suits, and heavily contributed to his drug abuse escalating. I don't think he necessarily wanted to kill Maggie, but in his mind, he "needed to".

Good presentation aimed at the average juror, who isn't a legal expert and needs to understand important points of law (reasonable doubt, direct vs. circumstantial evidence etc). Mona Lisa example was good and Hamster Wheel analogy was excellent--easy to understand and remember! Like the jurors, I am not trained in legal matters, and I thought he laid a solid foundation and got the jury ready for part 2.
He claimed, "Someone else did it," yet with all that power and money, he never hired a private eye to find out who killed his son and wife? Also, you have to love how he speaks down to the jury using "Paugh-Paw" and other bs, yet when he's with the cops on the night of the killing, he's calling him "Paul."
That's because he is a nut job/Insane. And the video of the police arriving after he slaughtered his family was evidence of the fact of how crazy this freak is.

He's never showed ANY interest in finding who killed - never questioned it from the instance the police showed up -- never warned anyone else in his family that murderers were on the loose! Never showed any signs he was fearful of the same!! His final lie seals the deal. He lies about the kennels because he KNOWS when they're killed. If he had truly been gone for 1.5 hrs and was clueless about the crime, why would he worry about being at the kennels beforehand versus at the house?
I think he was out of money. Anyone wonder why he called Paul's friends the night of the murders...? Like, your son and wife are dead and you start calling his friends to tell them? I find that very strange.
What makes it more likely than not that he murdered his wife and son is the complete absence of any other suspects, afterwards, and way before he was charged for double murder, he nor his family made any real effort to harasses law enforcement to look for the so called true killer(s).
In addition to what you said, the fact that he didn't fear for his and his son's safety, even though he wanted everyone to believe that a murderer or murderers were on the loose. He did nothing to try to find the murderer. He never expressed curiosity or suspicion as to who the murderer may have been. Only the guilty guy had no reason to fear the bogeyman.

Based on all of the evidence I am of the opinion that he is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. However for a murder trial this is one of the weakest closing arguments I've seen. Casual and lacking emotion. Heavily focused on financials rather than actual crime scene evidence, circumstantial evidence, lack of alibi. The prosecution has been excellent throughout and I expected a finale of sorts.

I don't think they did a great job from what I have seen. He did a great job telling us that AM is a liar and a thief who was addicted to drugs but spent little time trying to convince us of a motive as to why he murdered his family.

@@Collageartist69 The problem is that he has to be proven guilty "beyond a reasonable doubt". I absolutely believe he did it. Many of the reasons stated here make me believe he did it. But, to the jury these may all fall under circumstantial evidence, and they may find it reasonable to doubt that he is guilty, that it's possible someone else did this. Is there concrete proof he did it? I really wish there was, as I believe he did it, but I'm not sure there is any 100% absolute proof, like video evidence, DNA evidence, an eyewitness, etc.

After how emersed I have been in the details of this case I feel I could deliver a much more compelling closing argument. He is skipping a lot of key points. I am worried the jury is so tired of hearing this monotone delivery of information they are not really listening it is hard for me to even listen...come on waters we need some enthusiasm remind them of the evil this man has committed against good people!!!

Actually there were a number of areas where Waters could have done a better job ... a certain highly skilled and experienced attorney analyzed some of these errors he made in cross-examining defense witnesses, but hopefully they won't affect the outcome and there will be a conviction.
Whether or not he actually killed his wife and child, he did at least indirectly contribute to their deaths, because if somebody else killed them out of revenge, it's because of the way he lived his life and raised his family, and that such a thing came to pass.
That's what happens when you live to excess, you piss off somebody somewhere sometime, and sometimes it results an innocent people dying, which it apparently has in several instances in the history of the Murder-daugh family.
That's why the law is based on what we call the ten commandments, because if you break any of those commandments, there's a good chance somebody somewhere is going to get killed. Whether you steal or cheat on your spouse or whatever it is you do, there are always repercussions. But humans think they can get away with everything.

Hard to think he’ll be found guilt in that crooked county. I have to believe he’s got someone in the jury pool. Sad as it is, I feel he’ll skate on this one, but hopefully the dozens of other charges related to financial crimes will eventually put him in prison for the rest of his life.

As a former heroin addict who used it heavily for years and years, 1000 mg of oxy a day would kill a full grown horse. OK, I've watched this whole trial and this is the first time I've thought the prosecution has a chance of getting beyond reasonable doubt. I never really bought the "sympathy" motive, but now I see that is a legal concept and I realise they had a strategy in place with Mark Tinsley. You can be pretty sure they worked with that witness to coach his testimony. Mark's testimony that the whole bridge case would have been dropped immediately struck me as a bit over the top. But now i see that was the nail in the coffin for getting me past reasonable doubt. Alex knew that killing Paul (and of course he had to include Maggie too as she would have known) would get him off the hook. It's crazy but I guess so is Alex!

Alex had clearly completely lost the plot and it must have been a desperate move to try to free himself of all burdens.
