I hung in there as long as I could. Listening to this prosecutor trying to tell the story is excruciating.
Brutal
I agree. "Ummmm"
How did she get this job??? The ummms, the clicking of the lips, I can't.
Worst prosecutor ever!!!!
Yes, and a horrible storyteller! That’s crucial for an attorney 😳
She sounds like a bored substitute teacher.
Bahahahahaa yessssssssa
Biggest case in the history of Ohio. WORST opening statement on the planet.
They were obsessed with having custody of that child. It's insane that they thought they were a better option while plotting to murder everyone. That's just evil.
it was not the child it had to be they had control issues
That's the prosecution case but is it the truth
We'll find out . Did you watch the defense opening statement ? I think he laid out a believable defense. We'll see in the end .

Good grief what a really poor and painful opening statement
That should have been organised, in chronological order that was clear and easy to follow
@silverlady 111 A chart with timelime, locations, and victims would have been helpful
I don’t understand how 4 family members agreed to murder 8 people! It seems like at least one of them would come to their senses and say it’s a bad idea.
And thought they would get away and that they were smarter than “Conscience”
Are all 4 in jail is what i want to know
@@angelgirldebbiejo Yes I believe they're all in jail now.
They would've created this horror within an echo chamber mentality, so logical thoughts would be rejected almost before they formed. It's horrifying.

The worst opening arguments I've ever had to listen to 😐
I want to see Johnnie Depps lawyer in every court room 👩⚖️
Maybe this Prosecutor could tell a story to 3 year olds in daycare, but she has NO place in a court room.
I don’t think a 3 year old has the patience or puzzle capabilities to put this broken and confusing story together, mixed with her never ending slow cadence with a million “Ummmm”s sprinkled in every other word. This is worst public speaker I’ve EVER heard! A 3 year old could tell a story better than this….
Who cares about how she is telling the story? This is awful
Jeez Louise. Can I get the crib notes version of what this trial is about? I can’t sit through this
Yeah, it's called Google
😂😂😂
This prosecutor drives me nuts with the smacking and umms.
I thought it was only me that was driven nuts by that lip smacking and ummmmms - I have autism and that sets me off - so I had to leave it. Reading the comments it appears I am NOT the only one - EVERYONE has commented especially about the emmmmms. I normally turn down the sound and read the subtitles but - there are no subs!!
Jack McCoy where are you?
She could have broke the ums with” basically” and”you know”.
“Um” should not be in a prosecutor’s vocabulary. She’s difficult to listen to with all the “um” fillers.
lots of "ya know" as well. She's not real hot at this
Just said the same thing
cant really blame her because there is so much information to recall that she is using her ums as a space filler to remember stuff and also to take breaks
@@DewnetteReid She could write it down, even reading from a paper fluidly, would be better.

I'd rather watch paint dry.
Won't snitch on his "friend" , but will blow his whole family away!😡😠🤬
At any given point you can ff and stop, or rewind and stop...and 9 out of 10, you're going to land on an UM...
OMG. Any lawyer who says “he drug the body” instead of “dragged” should be disbarred immediately. Listening to this is f’ing painful.
😂 🤦🏼♀️
When in Rome do as the Romans do. Nothing puts off a jury more than an "outsider" coming in to an area and "talking down" to the locals. The use of "drug" is appropriate in this time and place. It is part of the local speech for these people.
So thats your ultimate takeaway from this video?
lol For some American's English really is a foreign language.
Omg she's the worst she's all over the place
This is one of the worst openings from a Prosecutor I’ve ever seen or heard. I’m disappointed.
Let's see if I have this straight...So Angela thought the little girl would be safer living with four murderers that wiped out her mom's side of the family? I have 2 sons also and no way would I ever involve them in criminal acts..let alone murder of his daughter's mother. She must of been an overbearing force to recon with.
I don’t even know what this prosecutor is saying, you are doing better than me.
Lol sick people talk about if this is not evil?!
That's because she is a narcissistic control freak psychopath.
I actually think that the father was the won who was going to make this happen no matter what. He seems to be the one who controlled what everyone did or said.
Angela never thought what was best for anyone but herself. Control freak which she passed on to Jake. Those poor kids & sons.
This could perhaps be the worst opening statement by a prosecutor in a high profile murder case I have ever witnessed.. Her timeline is more like a circle.
Why does she sound like she's about to say, "Ok, hold on... let me start over." any second?
Um...I don't know ..I wish she would!
Girl!!!! 😫All the groundwork has already been laid in this case. Why punish the jury like this?🥱 Poor jury...thank you for your service
They could have chosen another DA to give this opening statement. She really sucks and sound like she does not know what she is talking about. Practice lady!!!
Thank God you said it. That was my entire reason for coming to comments. It's a horrible presentation. She seems like she has zero knowledge of the case and is just now reading it.
I concur, they don’t need to be a spectacular orator for a case.
However, I expect facts to be presented clearly & orderly. It’s fine to back track time-lines to explain what lead to the eventual crime. When someone uses the words: you know, right. At the end of an explanation their expecting your agreement or their unsure of their own words.
Don't agree at all. Think of all the details she had to deliver. I thought she did a great (and difficult) job.
Well, she did not need to deliver all the details. These will be presented during the trial. She was supposed to give an outline of what the prosecution thinks happened and what evidence they will present.
And she's calling him 'jake" instead of his full name, that's absolutely unprofessional. It's like they are friends or something. If I was in the Rhoden family I would get that message to someone for her or the judge.
I wonder if the jurors are falling asleep. She's awful 😞
Awful? Are you kidding? Think about what she was tasked with: a horrific, arduous tale of evil. Amazing woman. She kept her quiet demeanor. She's absolutely fantastic.
It was torture listening to her. And, and, uhm, uhm, and the clicking her tongue is insane.
Why is everyone criticizing this woman? Stop acting like elitists! This is a small mountain community that has never prosecuted a high profile case.
I don’t get the hate she’s getting. She did a great job
@@angelapyle7301 I don't either. It's absolutely ridiculous 🙄 I guess folks watch too much Law and Order and think it's real life.
What a TERRIBLE prosecutor. She is as interesting as listing to paint dry.
Omg was this her first case ???
I just cannot watch anymore.
Only 4 minutes in.
Nope she has been around for a long time stalking her exes and getting her son out of prison.
If you come to to comments before you watch...dont bother watching. Waste of time...you will hear it all in the trial. Prosecutor must have said "UMMM" 1000 times. Even the court experts stated her opening was very amatuerish.
I'm just so blown away by the confidence these monsters had within themselves to risk getting caught by making multiple crime scenes
amazing they would entrust an opening statement to someone that speaks so poorly, let alone entrust a case of this magnitude to someone that struggles to do basic public speaking!
This part of Ohio is in the beautiful Appalachian foothills that are unfortunately at the epicenter of the opioid epidemic. People there speak a bit differently than they do in the rest of America, and what looks like awkwardness to the rest of us may help the jury relate to her and see her point of view.
Agree agree agree
...absolutely abhorrent. i know children that could have done a better job.
That was exactly what I was thinking!! How many times can one say "Umm"!!🙄🙄🙄
I completely agree!
Wow! She sure uses the filler word "Um" in every sentence. I wish she was better. I hope that other prosecutor(s) is able to pick up the pieces. This opening statement is one of the worst I have ever heard.
A national and worldwide case like this and this Prosecutor is the best Ohio has to offer?
I think I made the exact statement
Have you been to Ohio ? 🤔
They should have brought in Julie Hutchison that prosecuted Daniel and Jessica Groves for the murder of their 2 month old infant. Also in Ohio, not sure which county, but similar in demographics to Pike County.
Whats wrong with her?
@@rebekitavega4115 She says ummm too much and she smacks her lips when speaking. I really wanted to watch this trial but I cannot stand listening to her.
Good grief! Listening to this lady is a um crime in itself! Hopefully she's not going to do any of the um direct or um anymore speaking period after this! Yikes! If it weren't for their already basically having the conviction in the bag this guy might have gotten away with murder having this poor excuse of a prosecutor. That is all ..
Let's hope she doesn't do closing!
Ummm. I agree
i thought the exact same thing!! sleepy, uninteresting , no personality, i feel like the jury is going to put in jail for murder of her!
I still remember from 8th grade in speech class, when we were learning how to deliver a speech effectively and UM would get points deducted from our grade if we used them. And I pay attention to anyone that does that more than once in a conversation, I absolutely can't stand to hear that, it's nothing but a time killer that most people wouldn't notice you are pausing very long if you leave the UMs out. It's not a crime to pause when speaking, sometimes you have too, you're putting your thoughts in order, she apparently can't right an opening statement well enough to have a flow going and thinks um when she's writing it. People realize you have to stop, especially in these situations and the UMs are so annoying you hardly hear anything else because that's already destroyed your nerves and patience completely. But I really thought that I can't believe she keeps doing that, has she never been told not to do that? it's unprofessional and doesn't do anything but make you sound ignorant.
No one here has a clue about how hard it must have been to read out that entire, terrible story. She was brilliant. I couldn't stop listening.
To be a good lawyer, you need to be a communicator, a excellent story teller. Capture the jury with every word, this Lawyer is none of those, sadly with such a shocking and disturbing case.
Agree!
I agree. She's making my head spin.
Correct! This is the best Ohio has?
Thee very worst opening statement by the prosecution I’ve ever had to endure 😣
The jury is in for a long ride, sadly.
luckily they have enough facts on their side
He sitting there thinking about how it all was totally unnecessary and heinous. He knows he will be convicted.
Yes he does! And he should be , he was part of the entire thing it doesn't matter if he pulled the trigger or not! They are all guilty
The prosecutor needs to lose all the “umms” and she needed to organize her opening statement to be more concise. The jury members’ eyes are probably glazed over by now, it they’re not asleep.
That was what was getting to me - but I have autism and I thought it was just me that was driven nuts by the lip smacking and emmms every time she took a breath. I quit half way through. Normally I would put the sound down and read the subtitles rather than listen to that, but no subs on this video, so I have to just move on to something else. I might catch the story if another channel decides to talk about it.
Exactly! She's all over the place, and not on center.
You are right, did you see the officer sitting yawning? A case this gruesome should have every single person’s attention! She’s horrible.
I disagree, she is making this as simple as possible.
She's had YEARS to get ready for this and she totally blew it!
It is painful listening to this prosecutor. I can't even focus on what she is saying because it is so terrible. It's like she doesn't even know or understand the details of this case.
In the beginning I thought she had a rocky start but it didn't only continue, it got worse! IMO the jury deserves a do over. It's hard to figure out who is who let alone what happened.
It could be that it's a tad disquieting to have to relate the sequence of such horrible, depraved events? Public speaking can be hard, but THIS? She amazes me in that she does keep it together & stays professional. This is reality, no "second-takes" or re-dos, no rehearsals, she's just gotta relate a LOT of facts in a logical sequence that clearly describes events & keeps jury from burning out, getting frustrated, mad, distraught, etc., not the easiest job.
I feel bad for the defense ….. if I were on this Jury and this woman was prosecuting the case I would find him “NOT GUILTY” because she sounds like she has no clue what is really going on!!!! It’s like a VERY LONG run on sentence!!!
@@cmckinney2318 let's hope the evidence and someone else doing the closing will help seal their fates.
As hard to listen to as she is, thier is no way he could be found not guilty
I legit couldn't make it through the video, can someone edit out the UM's or would there not be enough footage left over.

The prosecuter is doing a lousy job presenting the case. Can't listen to her. So sad for the families of the murdered people. Disgusting murderer's. Praying they get the maximum.
For anyone that is 'against the death penalty' keep this in mind and remember it forever = time after time after time murders like these are actually intensely afraid of dying and the death penalty and will admit and testify for the prosecution in order to avoid it.
And for that reason alone, the Death Penalty should be available in each and every state and to all prosecutors to get the truth and justice for the victims.
The statistics on capital punishment are illuminating. For starters, it's hardly a deterrent.

All of the brilliant lawyers that I have watched, both in person and otherwise are some of the most engaging and compelling speakers I have listened too. Even if I didn't believe the story they were telling, I was intently listening. They know their cases, very well; and they know all the parts and pieces of the case. Even if they have never used or touched the weapon. This prosecutor needs some help. It is a confusing and complicated case, but she sounds completely unprepared. I truly enjoy that little “slurp/suck” sound she makes as well. It’s as if she wishes she had some chewing gum to “pop” while she’s dazzling the jury with her incredible oratory skills. Obviously she learned from some of the true masters like Abe Lincoln and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr! (NOT)
@@dejuhvu1793 You need to build up a rapport with the jury, so story telling is a vital part of being a DA/Lawyer in the court room. They should put them on a course if they are incapable of speaking loud, clear and concise - and never saying ummmm!!!
The prosecutor seems nervous and all over the place! I get it ur on national tv, but…. Lots of ummms, and not knowing where you’re going…. Honestly doesn’t seem like she knows what she’s talking about when it’s all laid out for her
Umm i thought she was the defense 😁
@@southernsass2937 bahahhahahaha
Agree w all over the place but I think she needed to be more concise. She is literally giving the lay person every detail the police and lawyers know which is not needed.
@@markzelinski4434 She needs to put some feelings in those words.
