The actor who plays T'Lon is Marshall Teague. He was also one of the bad guys in Road House and had an epic fight with Patrick Swayze. He lives about an hour from me in Ft. Worth, TX. I've met him multiple times at conventions and he's even stopped by the brewery where I worked to have a few beers. He's a fantastic guy and tells the best stories about working with guys like Swayze, Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar) and one of his best friends and fellow DFW resident, Chuck Norris.

"Automatic shower preferences set to ice water" is a direct threat to Sheridan ... because only he and Ivanova have water showers ...

Ah! An episode I love. The (re-)introduction of Marshall Teague (MT) as Ta'Lon. I met him at a convention 10 years ago, and he told the story of how he - and the sword ended up in the show. After the episode "All Alone in the Night" he and Bruce agreed that it was fun working together and asked JMS if he could find another role for MT. JMS also asked if there was something special he wanted for the character, and MT brought the sword you see on screen. This sword is his own Katana. He had brought it to the convention to pose for pictures with fans, and it was hanging behind his autograph table most of the time, and we had discussed martial arts at some time.
Now, I love hearing other people's stories from conventions, and I have a few to tell myself.
One of the last days I went to say thank you to all the B5 people who had come to this 20th anniversary, and when I came to his table he asked me "have you seen the sword" "No, not really", and this is when he invited me behind the table, took the sword from the wall and put it in my hands. I could not believe that I was holding the sword of Ta'Lon in my hands, when he asked me to draw it. I asked for a confirmation and yes, I got to draw the sword of Ta'Lon. After this he told me that he had never invited anyone to do that before. Well, don't be surprised that I was stunned by this, and to this date it's my own favourite convention story to tell to B5 fans. and it was a double surprise, both as a fan, and as a martial artist.
After this I got to love the character of Ta'Lon even more.
This final scene is what made me love Ta'Lon as a character. He shows characteristics similar to G'Kar, but not quite the same.
"I carry my sword in my hand. You carry yours in your heart and in your mind. As I see it, that gives you a two-to-one advantage in arms. Be fair, Citizen G'Kar. Stay!" I love that line.
Yes, Londo sending Vir away... Will anything good come out of that ?
    Be seeing you.

Marshall Teague as Ta'Lon is great and JMS gives him fine dialogue as well.

I always enjoy the two worker caste Minbari behind the big mouth. The look they share after Sheridan calls the guy's big talk screams this is why you don't play chicken with the warrior caste.

A classic thing for B5 is to have an A plot that isn't very important, that is just some stand alone thing, while the B, C, D plots are all important character growth moments. We just had 3 things happen in this episode that are very important for each of the characters. G'Kar and his people, the trust issue has been resolved, Vir left for Minbar and we'll see how that turns out (Stephen Furst isn't leaving the show, he's in the credits, so he'll be back) and Franklin has an addiction to stims and we'll see how that turns out. JMS loves doing this. Making episodes to develop new things with the characters instead of driving the general plot, which then has a huge impact on how we perceive the characters when there are huge plot episodes. JMS is an amazing writer.

B5 also regularly used the B, C and D plots to move the chess pieces around for very big things later. One of the reasons the show worked so well is that it knew how to do accumulation -- and, on a rewatch, it becomes very clear how much of the show's long-term groundwork was being done in those B-D plots.

Ah Sheridan is not just a replacement for Sinclair, he´s his own character and I love both! I wish we had both as regulars in the show.

P.S. we got the closest thing to a Narn collaborator and he still tried to lure Londo to Narn where he could be murdered! God I love the Narn

Pants in the US are trousers in the UK. Underwear in the US is underwear, boxers, tighty whities, briefs, panties, drawers, etc. That plus the "fanny" definition disconnect made life as an expat a lot of fun.

Vir was sort of Londos conscience hence the reason Londo wanted to send him away also he did not want Vir to be corrupted and turn out like him. At least that was my feelings on why Vir was being sent away.

Na'Far is an interesting character. Yes, he has Vichy vibes but what he says and how he acts has merit. Of course, he wants the Centauri gone but he cares for the welfare of his people. He is in a difficult position. I do not recall if he was instrumental on the arrest of the pouch brother, but if not I am sympathetic for what he is trying to do, even while we root for G'Kar.

You seem to have missed it: Londo sent Vir away to protect him, from the danger(s) he knows are coming, from the danger(s) he knows he has exposed him to-- and a posting with the Minbari is about the safest he could make him. Of all the favours Londo could've called in with Delenn, this was a very small one and one she could be fine with because she knows Vir is basically a good egg in the end. I think there was also another mechanicalreason to let Vir go for a bit, to allow the actor, Stephen Furst, to focus on some acting or directing commitments he had coming. Furst even wound up directing a few episodes of B5.
But, as you should have noticed by now, including this very episode, B5 is very good about bringing characters back, even apparently minor ones, and usually to great effect. Notice, for example, how Ivanova now has someone to play off more-- Lt. Corwin, previously just an unnamed tech played by a moreorless background actor, Joshua Cox, who ends up getting some of the show's funnier moments as the series goes on.

Surprising a brit doesn't know the word 'strife'. Isn't "storm and strife" rhyming slang for "wife"?

      No, it's 'trouble and strife'.

    • @chrism7395

'Trouble And Strife' is cockney rhyming slang. It was originally only used by criminals from the eastend of London and (speaking for myself) I've only ever used it ironically, and I strongly suspect it's fallen out of favour with most people.

    • @tulinfirenze1990

It's trouble and strife and yes, a Brit may be familiar with it if they're 150 years old.
