Remember what Elric told Londo in The Geometry of Shadows: “I see a great hand, reaching out of the stars. The hand is yours. And I hear sounds. The sounds of billions of people calling your name.” - “My followers?” - “Your victims.”
In the bombardment scene Londo's reflection was the first time that digital effect was done in any show or movie. It was a stunning moment in a stunning episode. Peter Jurasik is so wonderful as Londo
If you love G'Kar now, just wait. He's easily one of the best characters ever created for TV.
"Your victims"
I bet when standing at that window and watching Narn burn Londo remembered the words of the technomage.
And damit would you have guessed that G´Kar would be someone who would rather go to where the nukes drop than to stay in savety? The biggest sacrifice for him being where all of our politicans would pay all they have to be.
I did not see that coming for sure and I still love it, love the episode and the whole series.
"You've changed. I like it."
Ironic, because the actor playing Draal here is NOT the same actor that played him previously :)
Also, Z'Ha'DOOOM! :)
G'Kar's speech gives me chills every single time. I love this episode!!
Your reaction to Londo and G'Kar, as expected, was perfect and exactly what I wanted to see. Everyone just hates Londo's guts and feels for G'Kar. It's also mirroring the first episode, Midnight on the Firing Line, where the Narns attack the Centauri agricultural planet. But this time the Centauri are conducting a mass genocide of the Narn population.
One of my favourite episodes of the entire show. Nice that you picked up on the throwaway mention of Zathras - and yes we do follow up on that later in S3 :)
Londo's face while watching the bombardment 💔💔
As a shadow falls on him.
Such a powerful episode. The writing and acting is superb.
This one shows up on just about everyone’s Top 5 list.
My favorite episode of S2, though there are others which are contenders. So much happens. So much pathos in one episode.
The mighty Narn war machine, once the terror of the galaxy, laid low in a matter of minutes. The role reversals blew my mind. The bumbling and weak Centauri are now Nazis, the villainous and aggressive Narn empire reduced to near extinction and now we're rooting for them instead. If the Shadows can wipe out the Narn Navy in a matter of minutes, they can do it to everyone. (Reminds me of "Once Upon a Time...Space" when the all powerful Cassiopeian fleet was annihilated by the even bigger bad guy living machine armada.) G'Kar, once the villain and antagonist, now so very sympathetic and Shakespearean in his tragic Cassandra role. I remember the horror and shock when I first watched this episode back in college; this episode elevated Babylon 5 to my absolutely favorite show of all time. Star Trek had nothing on Bab5.
Just in case you didn't recognise him...
G'Kar's uncle G'Sten was played by W. Morgan Sheppard, who previously appeared as the soul hunter in season 1.
"Now the trumpet summons us again -- not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need -- not as a call to battle, though embattled we are -- but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation -- a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease and war itself." - JFK's inaugural address.
What is going in is that Zathras knows things even Draal does not know yet.
Elric : As I look at you, Ambasador Mollari, I see a great hand reaching out of the stars. The hand is your hand. And I hear sounds; the sounds of billions of people calling your name.
Londo : My followers?
Elric : Your victims.
Yes, this episode is a banger. Who would have expected how up to date a 30 years old show would be? Who thought that the Narn-Centauri War would end like this?
One of the best episodes on B5, although with things to come the best episodes go in to at least a dozen if not more. Powerful speech by G'Kar in the council chambers. Londo passing the point of no return? Draal is back again with the power of the Great Machine? Pretty cool stuff. And it's only season 2. We're almost done with the season and cool stuff coming up next.
Well, It's also karma for G'kar. He wanted to destroy Centauri as revenge. Remember what he told to Mordon. He poked the bear in the first season quite a lot. For Londo humiliation of G'kar is revenge.
One of the great episodes of season 2. My Favourite of season 2 is yet to come.
I would say that at this time in the series I think we all agree with you: "I love G'Kar"
That speech at the end gives me the chills every single time.
Aaaand then there's the Rangers.
Like you, I freaking love this episode.
Be seeing you!
G'Kar after finishing his speech = 🎤 drop
It's SO incredibly gratifying, seeing you get to these huge episodes and enjoying them!
What always struck me about B5 was the sense of range and scale during space battles.
I like how the camera always appears to be floating weightlessly. It pans across the screen, sometimes vertically or horizontally or diagonally. Sometimes the camera appears to be tumbling slowly. It’s just one of many stylistic choices that gives B5’s battles their own distinct look.
@@sdfried4877 they did well with the tools they had available, I'd like to see the show get a CGI do over like they did with original Star Trek.
G'Kar's speech in the end is one for the ages and still applies today.
Regarding Kosh, he's just like Gandalf: a divine Maiar spirit from Valinor, cloaked in his old man "encounter suit" to guide the younger races against Sauron. Do not go to Barad-dûr!
I don't like that they changed the actor that played Drol,
and the graphics on the planet changed too and not for the better.
Still good but little details grind on me.
The scene of Londo overlooking the Narn home world as it's being bombarded makes up for it though.
And G'Kar's speech at the end.
The original actor playing Draal was not available due to health issues
They had to change Draal. Louis Turenne was in poor health at the time and couldn’t return.
the wheel turns. this was an important episode. just wait for the season finale. you'll be in for something.
The beginning of so much. G'Kar is the most incredible character. And yet it's almost impossible to watch this arc as it happens to him. The same can be said for Londo, except it's almost impossible to watch as he does this to others.
2 more to go can not wait to see your reaction for the finally
Babylon 5, or as I like to call it: Londo Mollari's Wild Ride.
That was not Zathras it was Zathras
don't go to Z'Ha'Dum 😛
Are you ok? Hope everything is going well for you.
I think you are making some assumptions about the Vorlons and getting them lines about the Minbari confused with the Vorlons.
This is the big one!
Zathrus? Or do you mean Zathrus or Zathrus
Refa will get what's coming to him, but not soon enough. Spoiler.
How about... not spoilering? 😒
@@mindonner No.
There are some eerie parallels with our current world, particularly with Russia's genocidal war against Ukraine.
Unsubescribed, ffs your talking the piss son🤔🤣🤣
Oh gollly what will I do 😱😱
