You fkn guys are on dope, a violation is not a citation. Tires, lights, air leaks, etc are nothing more than a violation, you don't pay fines on these infractions. Overweight and speeding are actual monetary citations. So where are you guys paying all the money to, lmfao.

    In my 26 years long haul i have had some funny DOT inspections. All ARE TRUE!!
    1. I had a HAZMAT inspection at the Chowchilla California scales once and the officer noticed that during the inspection I DELIBERATELY prevented him from seeing the back of my T-Shirt. When done i asked if i passed and he said yes and then he stated the obvious asking to see my shirt. I said I would but ONLY after I got the papers saying I passed SO HE COULD SEE IT. After a few minutes i got them and he said sternly in tone while smiling "Now turn around and let me see". I said OK while laughing and he said "OK NOW i know why you did not want me to see that!!", and while laughing and I assured him I did not plan for it. In big bold yellow letters on the back of my black shirt it said " BEEN THERE, HAULED THAT, AND DESTROYED THE EVIDENCE!". True story.
    2. I was in Liberty Lake scales in Washington by Spokane, non hazmat level 3 and same issue but with multiple officers wanting to see my shirt with by back to the wall. I was asked for the following information from memory as the officer had deliberately covered from eyesight ALL my papers, logs and bills.
    I from memory correctly answered ALL QUESTIONS with 100% accuracy before allowing them to see the back of my T-shirt. Name, state of residence, drivers license number, company i worked for, load i was hauling, trailer content and location of all stops delivered and remaining, address and phone number of employer in Tennessee, size and brand of trailer, LICENSE PLATE number of both tractor AND trailer, how heavy was my load, and LAST BUT NOT LEAST WITH 100% UNINTERRUPTED AND NO DELAY in response, "WHAT IS THE FULL VIN NUMBER of your tractor you currently are driving?" Without delay or blinking an eye I GAVE FROM MEMORY THE 100% full 17 character alpha numeric VIN of the tractor.
    He got an angry look on his face as I smiled when he verified i was correct on everything i recalled 100% from memory. He said to the effect "Well, it is nice to see at least someone is not on drugs and paying attention to what they are supposed to be aware of, NOW TURN AROUND AND LET ME SEE THE BACK OF YOUR SHIRT, making sure the other officers in the scale house heard him and saw my shirt. AFTER I GOT ALL my papers and passing document i did. Back of my black shirt said in bright yellow capital letters...
    "NO OFFICER I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU PULLED ME OVER! I SURE HOPE YOU DO! NOW THAT MY LOAD IS LATE AND MY MEDICATION IS WEARING OFF, HURRY UP BEFORE I PASS OUT!" ALL of them ended up laughing hard and loud as i smiled and walked out...except my inspector.
    TRUE STORY!

    Few tips not mentioned in this video.
    1. Neat, all your paperwork should be neat and easy to read. This mostly applied a while back when we all used paper logbooks.
    2. This is directly from a DoT officer. Follow a multi axle in if you can. 4 or more axles on the trailer touching the ground. They are more likely to pull that truck in. Officers said. That many tires and brakes chances are the driver missed something.
    3. Be polite and respectful. You don't have to be his/her best friend, but you don't have to be an ass either. Funny how far a yes sir no sir goes.
    4. This is more for company drivers. Don't be scared to out of service a truck before ever leaving the yard. I've out of serviced a truck because the dummy company removed the ashtray/cupholder from the truck. You're not allowed to have a water bottle coffee cup sitting on the floor could roll under a pedal. (side note, funniest look ever on my dispatchers face that day)
    5. Again more for company drivers. Stand up for yourself. Don't let a dispatcher bully you into doing something illegal. If you are doing everything legal and safe you have zero to fear from DoT. Or in my case the MTO.

      Waterbottles and coffee mugs fit in boots. Putting a Truck out of service because it didn't have a cup holder is a Keran move, suck it up buttercup and get to work ffs.

    • @MrShuntking
      @MrShuntking 3 года назад +10

      @@GoDaddioTV Awww muffin. You can bring a spare pair of boots to have a cup holder. I'm not. While your at it princess why don't you bring an extra tire for the truck with you as well. You know incase the company doesn't want to fix that issue as well.
      But I guess you don't get the principle of it. The truck had cup holders, company pulled them out, THEY MADE IT ILLEGAL no different to putting a bald tire on the truck.
      And kid, I've got 17 years in with ZERO tickets, ZERO accidents. And my regular route has me pass 2 super scales and two smaller scales. And I have ZERO fear of being pulled in and inspected. I will pass every time. That is not to mention since the company I work for is in a heavy commercial part of the city the MTO love to set up safety blitz on the road the yard is located on. AGAIN zero fear of being pulled over.
      Your the dummy that DoT and MTO love to pull over because you think your little work arounds will save you getting a fine and demits on YOUR license. When it is MY license god damn right I will be a KAREN about it. It is mine, not the companies and keeping it clean is non-negotiable period.

      They're called running shoes. I take my work boots off and put them on when I'm driving so my feet are comfortable, you should try it.
      I've been flat-decking for 17yrs and Trucking closing on 21 fast. Let me guess, you pull Vans and sit on your ass all day. Why don't you carry your own spare tires, are you useless and don't know how to change a flat on a Forest Service Rd in the middle of nowhere?
      Unless it's a Safety Blitz I rarely get pulled in at the Scales or at road-side Inspections. I gained a reputation of passing them with flying colours and normally get waved through because they don't want to waste their time finding out everything works that needs to work on my Truck when there's so many idiots who don't maintain their Rig to check.
      A cup holder doesn't need to work, Skippy. Most Companies would fire your stupid ass red-flagging a Truck for that. You're the Snowflake who did that, not me. I'm a Trucker, you're a truck driver.
      Lastly, if my boots are wet I'll improvise and use a strap for a cup holder while they dry out. Good luck to you, you need it Chump.🖕

    • @MrShuntking
      @MrShuntking 3 года назад +6

      @@GoDaddioTV Your the chump. If it isn't your own rig and you are providing a free mechanic for the company. Your not only a chump but also a complete moron. You do those repairs without pay and put yourself totally at risk for all the blame if something goes wrong with that repair. Again unless it is you own rig and you are running as an O/O you SHOULDN'T be repairing the truck.
      Yep I pull reefers making sure the grocery stores have food in them. So the chances of me every being on a forest service road is never going to happen. 2. The company I work for has 2 Mechanic in the company yard. So if I spot an issue I can have it fixed usually under an hour and get paid while waiting for someone who is qualified to do the repairs. It's called doing a PROPER pre-trip. (not the same company as the cupholder company)
      And I didn't say a cup holder needs to work. I said, having to put your drink on the floor is an out of service because it can roll under a pedal. Making it 100% a safety issue. 2 totally different things. And again it is the principal of it. The company pulled them out for no reason other then it was combined with the ashtray which simply popped out meaning the actual holders could of stayed in the truck.
      Finally Skippy. I make enough money to afford a good pair of work boots that are just as comfortable as a pair of running shoes. I highly recommend CaT work boots/shoes. Give them a try, then maybe you don't need to carry 3 pairs of boots with ya.

      U must not be a trucker 🤦🏻‍♂️ We complain about 4 wheelers because they do dumb sh*t like cutting us off to closely (we need to keep a big following distance because we can’t stop quickly like cars), not letting us merge in construction zones, ect. As far as 10 minutes to pass another truck; the trucks have speed limiters and sensors on them. So if you want to do top speed of 65 mph you will be slowed down to 60 or 58 staying behind a truck doing the 65 or slower because the sensor doesn’t let u follow closely. Ergo, u have to pass them to maintain your 65 mph speed or take even longer to get to your destination.

    I've never had problems with either Canadian or US DOT officers/inspections - and I've been driving professionally for over 10 years.
    Some tips:
    1) keep your documents in order - I keep truck documents in plastic sleeves in a 1" ring binder so the inspector can see everything at a glance
    2) I keep my BOL's on a separate clipboard so I can just hand the clipboard to the officer
    3) keep your dash clean - I guarantee that if it comes down to an inspector picking between two trucks, he/she will go for the one that has paper and other crap strewn all over the dashboard.
    4) be reasonably polite, the officer is just doing their job and they do get the junk trucks off the road that shouldn't be ON the road in the first place
    I very seldom get pulled into DOT inspections simply because I follow the above tips. Remember, the officer can look up just about anything they want related to your truck and you (via your license) on their computers. If they see that you've been inspected recently and passed, they usually won't bother going through the higher inspection levels. The opposite is true if you have a record of failing inspections.

    I drove a heavy duty tow truck for 12 years. If DOT didn't exist, there would be more wrecks and rolling junk on the roads. I have been called out for trucks that were broken down that should have been scrapped. I was never afraid of a DOT inspection because I refused to drive rolling wrecks or in violation. One time I did get nailed for having a train whistle on the loaner truck my boss had me driving while my assigned truck was in for maintenance.

I try to treat everyone like I’d want to be treated. Pre Trip inspection can eliminate 90% of problems. I have thousands of pictures of the craziest most unsafe violations that could have been avoided. My advice…..don’t give attitude. I expect a little but when I catch you on the phone and am behind you with lights and sirens and you are so distracted you don’t see or hear me then you have no reason to give me an attitude. 90% of my citations go to the company. We have a retired MTO officer working for the company I drive for, and he was able to clarify the quota issue for me at least. He told me that there is no quota for number of tickets, but there are "performance benchmarks". Basically put, in a month, for each area, there should be a minimum number of inspections performed. He went on to say that in the area he worked, 85% or more of the inspections he performed resulted in the truck and/or trailer getting clean paperwork. It is understandable that the government would want their officers to perform at or above a set limit, after all, these officers are being paid to do a job. As far a writing tickets goes, he was happier to not have to write any...

      They do not have quotas, quotas are against federal law.. They have "Work performance Standards" and have to show that they are doing their job... If they deal with a major TC that takes two days to investigate, they will not be expected to have "X" amount of traffic contacts for those days or for the month. No TC's, better be making contact with the public, be proactive and issuing them citations... Spin on words.

    This lier lost all credibility with me when he said there is no such thing as a quota. I was told by an inspector on a dot stop that they had quotas for the number of inspections performed in a year, and that I would generally see them inspecting alot more every March and April in order to meet their yearly quota. This is what I hate about the aditude of law enforcement, they see it as totally moral to lie to the public in order to save face for the profession (and the courts back them), so in general you can't trust many of them at all unless they are a personal friend of yours outside of work, and they haven't just totally given themselves over to the god complex of being in the legalized mafia that we call "law enforcement".

    • @lcrr700
      @lcrr700 2 года назад +3

      I worked as an inspector for 10 years. No quota, BUT... expectation (um, goal) of 16 trucks inspected per day. At the end of the month, the scales I worked at would list everyone by numbers of trucks inspected, number of violations found, number of out of service trucks... so, yeah, quota vs. expectations vs. goals. It's all semantics. No penalties for not reaching goals except peer pressure.

    We need more people like that in California. Gascon has ordered that police no longer stop vehicles for burned out lights or other “minor issues.” We see rigs running 4 abreast on a 5 lane freeway with no transition roads nearby.
