Finding metal in that filter means its doing its job, don't assume that the pump is going bad. Its possible that the pump was changed already and that's leftover from trying to clean the tanks out. I noticed a frame mount filter which will catch anything before actually going into the fuel module. Its also possible, that truck in the video has already experience a pump failure and that's why the frame mounted filter is there.
Also have a dyno test done & check for blow by & I try to buy from a owner op with all the paper work done on maintenance that shows if he is lazy or not lol

To me a warranty on the most expensive parts would be the best. Like one that covers motor and transmission plus offer's a reasonable extended warranty for a reasonable amount. I'm a mechanic right now, but I'm looking to get into Trucking, owner operator but first I'm going to drive for some tracking company then buy.🦈🤔🚛✍️✌️
Also if u buy from a dealer make sure u check under the dash for the ecm harness. I got an older 2005 international. No problem other than always have water in my air system. I change dryer filter every 3 months- drain tanks every day. My valves still breaking down. Trl/ trk break valves break every 8-10 months.
Jeff Cairns Its 9400, with cummins isx. Nothing was done to the engine. Still running strong. Any idea how to get rid of excessive water in my air system? Could it be the air compressor? Could the dryer been installed wrong?
I was at Ritchie Brothers auction right there in Orlando Florida. The majority of the Freightliners I was checking out we're having that same surge problem. But I did not know what it was and RUclips doesn't have any information on it. Thanks for letting me know what it is and how much its going to cost to repair it.
The first thing I recomend is ensuring you witness a cold start, i.e.engine temperature below 80°F oe cooler. I bought an Astro Van and Freightliner Century when both engines at operating temperature when I shoed up. Masked a much needed tune-up on the Astro Van and ab Engine Position Sensor on the Cummins N14 C120.
Hey, I like your vlogs and the details you share. I would like to request you to make a video on problems that are frequently faced by truckers in USA and Canada. I would also like you to talk about the impact and sensitivity of those issues and what is the right way to address those issues or overcome those problems.vtrust me it will help a lot of new truckers...thank you
High pressure pump failure is more on the 10 thousand dollar range, if you find yourself in that situation always check manufacturer warranty, usually it’s around 500,000 and they will do it the correct way. The fuel quantity control valve is not to bad unless you have a short noise then the labor rate is a lil higher. Don’t know if that helps anybody figured I’d put it out there
Even though this is 2 years old I still learned something. However I noticed that the guy clearly didn't talk about the DEF filter. Oh that's right he's a repairman and a dealer he doesn't want to let anybody know that that's one of the biggest ongoing scams in the country that nobody wants to clean or replace because it's 6K to clean and 10K to replace the filter. I wonder why he never mentioned that as a person selling the vehicle to new customers.
My friend that was such a great informative video for people out there looking to become an owner operator such as myself. Can you please make more videos on what to look out for when buying a truck such as kenworths Peterbilts ect that would be awesome.
Good job nice video I've been out there a long time I remember when that engine first came out and I use to drive one .They had oiling problems at the crank thy fixed that problem in the next gen motor and it became the go to motor it's near bullet proof now ,and the go too motor for most people .
I am a Cat man , Love em , last 2 trucks I have had were 3406 E and a C15 Acert, both great running motors. That being said , a 60 series is fine with me , great running engines. Would have no problem sitting behind one all day long.

Thanks for these videos driver, I learned a lot, and dude is a good mechanic!!! Please keep the videos coming!!!
I learned something new and that red freightliner got my attention and i have always wondered what that noise was when it came to surging deep but never knew about the oil wicked part
😇😇😇
I'm doing my research on purchasing a couple trucks but I've been told it's best to lease if you can get a good warranty. I appreciate you guy's helping me with these pointer's. I learn a lot in just minutes.. thanks again 👍 keep on trucking ✍️✌️📢🕵️
If I may ask, what do you consider a "good warranty?"
@barlowbrian521 you would make more money with your own service truck working on trucks then you would trucking
I appreciate the videos I'm actually looking to purchase my 1st trucc
understatement of the year 1:37 "spend a little bit of money" at $100 per hour labor, its going to be a lot more than a little bit of $$$
Thanks a lot for taking your time to bless other people that was very helpful
I been working on trucks for years as well as driving. I have my own shop as well. If i can't fix it. Nobody can.
Also if u buy from a dealer make sure u check under the dash for the ecm harness. Check all wire harness bc that shit ain’t cheap had a guy repin my engine harness bc of corrosion check underneath suspension abs harness as well do air to air check on turbo as well 😎. Like the guy said buy pre 2007 don’t buy new that was my mistake when I bought my 2016 579
You got any advice to look for in 579. Just bought the used 2014, seems good but I'm sure im not prepared for will cost me soon.
This was great information. Thank you for doing it can you do other similar kind of stuff that might be helpful for us before purchasing truck.
Really appreciate these videos man. I left NC as a police officer and have been freezing my ass off in the oilfield in ND for the last 3 years to get back on my feet. Im getting ready to buy a used day cab pretty soon and move back East and boy I am sweating about getting a lemon....thank you! Any guidance on someone I can speak with directly for some more tips and insight?
Hey bro. Did you buy a day cab yet? I'm looking for one now. Reach out pls
@@dontadye7924 no sir, not yet.....I left the oilfield and went to TN to buy a truck but I went at the worst possible time, when trucks had peaked in price. I ended up listening to my gut and coming back put to the oilfield......I will swing at the ball again in a few years
The other thing to look for on the DD15 is oil pressure at idle and high idle if it drops off, it is the oil pump
Not necessarily bc when oil gets hot its normal to lose pressure in any diesel
I'll be really blunt and Frank that guy knows his shit.. with employees like that that business will do well... Thank you Alex for the insight
Hard to beat a Detroit 60 unless it's a Caterpillar...I've run 3300, 3400, C12 and C15 series Cats can't be beat.
What about a n14
@@LOCTU40 I've never had much luck with Cummins...I've driven one truck with an N14 in it. It did the job but I was constantly having to put oil in it at least once a week. Give me Cat & Detroit before you give me a Cummins
@@aaronsanborn4291 I am trying to decide on a 1996 N14 Peterbilt or a 2007 Freightliner C-13
@@LOCTU40 I don't care for either. Pete is a good truck but I'm long legged so that upside down clutch pedal is uncomfortable. I'm not a big Freightliner fan but I've never had a lick of problems with a Cat motor in any truck I've driven.
@@LOCTU40 I've driven every major brand we have in the U.S. except Western Star...
I got an older 2005 international. No problem other than always have water in my air system. I change dryer filter every 3 months- drain tanks every day. My valves still breaking down. Trl/ trk break valves break every 8-10 months.
Jeff Cairns
Its 9400, with cummins isx. Nothing was done to the engine. Still running strong. Any idea how to get rid of excessive water in my air system? Could it be the air compressor? Could the dryer been installed wrong?
Waw awesome .stuff am getting ready to get my first truck thanks for that information
Awesome! I learned something new today too!
Thank you for this video!
I see they have a shop in pompano not to far from I am gonna check them. Thanks again for this video
Need more videos like this 👍
I was at Ritchie Brothers auction right there in Orlando Florida. The majority of the Freightliners I was checking out we're having that same surge problem. But I did not know what it was and RUclips doesn't have any information on it. Thanks for letting me know what it is and how much its going to cost to repair it.
Did you ever get it repaired driver??
@@BabyBaby-ph4uo I did not purchase the truck.
Best interview, good info
😇😇
True this is a great video.
Computer Scanner does wonders as well !! shows real time graphs etc
Don’t know if that helps anybody figured I’d put it out there
Thats why most trucks are sold at 500000 bc the warranty is up
More great advice! Thanks for sharing!
I passed the clp test. I got my temporary right now, so I am waiting for the real one in the mail.
😇😇😇
Michael Kendall Forget about it!!!
Awesome advice! Thank you!
Good deal. Would definitely trust this shop.
😇😇
They will definitely change your mind
I have a 2006 kw t2000 with a c15 if it were you would you rebuild or just get a newer used truck
Thanks for this video. Really helpful content
😇😇😇
Keeping it real 💯
Great video. I've learned so much in here today .thanks keep up the great work
I pray for the for the drivers

I drive and maintain a million mile big nosed cate just like red. Lots of little things wear out like the clutch pedal safety switch.

This guy is an expert on crapscadias
Great vid brotha
Thank you for creating helpful content! :-)
Thanks for these tips!
Great video. Thank you
This is some good knowledge omg
Love you Brother.
Very nice that vid!
The best oil to use on any engine is Motorkote: it is the only oil on the planet literally that is 100% anti-friction and it bonds itself to the metal the oil cost $100 like per gallon but it’s totally worth it do you won’t have to change the oil for at least five years and it protects the engine
i got a 89 fld with the series 60 detroit one of the best trucks ive had
Awesome video Alex!!
Nice rotator!!!!!!
Thank u thank u thank u
I totally agree with the guy. Which I was wondering if it was possible to put an older engine on a newer frame?
I just love my old NTC
