All you had to do was tell the insurance company you want your start date for your insurance to start in 21 days, not immediately.
Great video, David! As an insurance agent specializing in trucking, one other insider tip is that the date you put down money on your policy does NOT need to match the effective date of your policy. In other words, even if you paid for insurance on day 2, I would set the effective date of the policy to be on day 14 - 18 depending on where weekends land...that's valuable money to burn if an insurance agent doesn't understand the timelines. It will typically take the insurance company 24-48 hours to get the MCS 90 to the FMCSA and another 24-48 for them to process it on their end. All this to say that you can pretty safely get insurance on day 14 - 18 and not have insurance be a stumbling block in the timeline of getting the operating authority active in the 21-day period. You're giving out awesome info, we should connect offline.
Hi, Chris or David what about if I applied for FMSCA without insurance and then getting my insurance for example after 21 days I applied. Thank you guys!
Inna Mark you can technically get insurance whenever you want, even day 1. The FMCSA will not grant you “Active” status on your Operating Authority without insurance on file, so if you wait until day 21 or later, the only waiting period you would have would be for the insurance company to file it with FMCSA and the FMCSA to update their website. Anyone who you want to do biz with, like brokers, will check for your active status. In any case, the FMCSA will ALWAYS have the 21 day waiting period before they grant an active authority status. During that time is when you jump through all the hoops to be granted the active status. Hope that helps. This is Chris Cook on a different account BTW.
@@bruddahkekoa Thanks for replay! Another question about those new entrant audits, what if I don't have any truck, driver, and stuff like that they asking I have nothing to show them. Because I want to open my MC-DOT and go hunt for Owner Operators. once I find I would be able to operate him.
Inna Mark, unfortunately you’re going to have to think up another game plan. Insurance companies don’t want to insure a “paper” trucking company, meaning they want to insure your OWN truck or leased assets. When I say leased, I’m not talking about owner operators. You supply the tractor and put an employed driver in it. You can start leasing on owner operators in year 3 or 4 potentially.
Thanks chief
I just called dot to ask. They said you can start your coverage 48 hours before you’re authority is applied. Aka day 19 of the 21 days. Hope this helps save y’all money.
When you apply for your authority it's best to wait 10 days to get your ins. Also you have 90 days from the date of your application for your authority to be in compliance with the FMCSA. So you have a lil time to get things right before they deactivate your account. Not trying to step on any toes just passing along a lil info Bro..
Thanks fam. Im catchin' hell on the Application
Thanks
Thanks for the info step on a toes you want !! 🤭👍🏼👍🏼is all good info
So after I get dot number. 90 days later if I don't have insurance they'll deactivated?
@@thirdeye4286 when you apply they give you the DOT #. Yo activate your number you must get insurance and file a BOC3. If those two is not done within 90 days they will put your numbers on hold & you will have to submit a letter telling them to take your numbers off hold because you have everything up to date. HOPE THIS HELPS
I let my 21 days come and go before I bought insurance. My authority was active 2 days after I bought insurance
Damn. Now that’s what I’m talking about
Man thanks for letting us know because that's my plan too. I don't even have a truck or authority and especially not insurance over 3thausand dollars.
Yup . You can do ut that way..
So you don’t need insurance to get authority, MC or dot number?
@@dondelani7519 You Need it to activate your authority! So Apply for your authority first then after the 21 days buy insurance and your DOT will activate in 1 to 3 days. no money and time wasted in the process! Also After the 21 days You have a window of 69 days to get your insurance or else your DOT authority will be disactivated, plenty of time to shop around for insurance!
Can't beat the look of satisfaction on your face when you realized your theory worked🤣😎 Great video!
Can you pay the application fee& your dwn payment for you insurance....and not own a box truck yet just to get yoyr authority....i was going to rent a box truck starting out.
@@lawrenceparish1356 unfortunately you can’t start a policy or pay for one without the actual info of the truck which includes the minor details like vin #, year, carrying load capacity, dimensions of trailer, sleeper/no sleeper, any technology you rely on inside the cab, engine size, etc.
The truck rental place always offers insurance as an add on and it’s usually good quality coverage for the $money.
You can also adjust your personal auto ins to cover you while driving the rental truck, for an added cost, of course.
If you have any commercial ins Q’s let me know. I’m an Independent Commercial Insurance Broker licensed in CA, specializing in saving Truckers time & money. ☺️👋🏼
Put it to the test, but actually paid a week before authority went into effect and it works!
I watched a woman on you tube that works for a processing company and she said to do like you did, she said wait 5-7 days before your app is approved and that’s usually a safe way to do it,
Can you help me
@@darrellwiggins4971 Absolutely. Please call 346-283-9329.
I did my authority on the 2nd paid my insurance on the 18th went active on the 21st
@@robertesposito9871 can you tell me what video because im about to get my authority and want to see another as well do this in action

you the truth man thank you for all wisdom and truth you put out there for us
I remember when I got my truck insurance the insurance took two weeks to registration comes to anyway every State is different than others, but you telling us is truth, thanks brother for your help
You can " pause " or not activate your insurance policy until you get your DOT numbers.
FMCSA also gives you a grace period to activate your insurance policy.
How
Facts😂😂 90 days
Fantastic content, as always 👍🏾
Very impressed with the knowledge base and the think tank strategy definitely would like to get with you on the mentor coaching cost to get started with my trucking company
Thanks bro, just applied for my authority going to try this

Critical information appreciate the insight. I’ll be testing this theory myself.
Thank you for this information.
Great job, wow, thanks for sharing
It makes sense. Thanks for the info.
Thank you for this 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Thanks for the info fam.
Great information I will try this as well.
It makes sense and the way that should be done ,he insurance depending on the state it's expansive as jack Will try it that way
New to your chanel, great info and keep educating.
Thanks for that information.
I really like and appreciate your videos, here is another thought about this subject, you can lease under another company authority for the first 21 days. I actually do this for other owner operators I have my authority but I lease owner operator.
How does that work though?
Thank you!🖤
after subscribing to your RUclips channel I wanted to absolutely follow up. I’m looking for a contract for one year using a dry van. I’m looking for a dedicated power route or similar traveling from Houston to anywhere within Texas for 1yr. Do you have any suggestions.? Your RUclips videos are extremely informative and helpful. As a result, I sought you out to show my appreciation
Appreciate ya!
Great video.thanks
Great videos brother! I'm looking to get out on my own and start running a few trucks. For now, I work for MHC Truck Source in Chicago. Truck sales. So I have a line on good used trucks. LOL Keep the videos coming! HUGE HELP for what i'm looking to do.
Do you have a website for your truck sales
Help to us with really special prices for a truck 😅
i have to buy atruck, can you help?
Great information. Thanks.
Great video. Thanks.
Just wanna say your a genius
Great approach,it's business Davis you have to be profitable, good.
We actually had full coverage insurance bought Commerical 1 week prior when we got our dot and MC. It took 1 week to go active
Just make your insurance effective from 20th day of app. How hard is it to understand? Avoid all that nonsense...
Good luck y’all!
Agreed, throughout the thread we came up with the that solution after speaking with a couple agents. Thanks for the feedback.
Excellent video
Great information.
saved me some money...thanks for the video
I unfortunately am one of those people who rarely eave reviews and comments. But this right here...Has been some very valuable information for me. Last week bought my truck outright zero payments. Today I initiated the process with a company to file and set up everything that needs to be done to get authority. I thank all of you that have put this information out there. Especially David McGill💯💪🏾💯
which company you use to set up the process if you dont mind
Great video
thank you
Very good information
When you first get your authority my guess is maybe Uber will let you book loads because of no experience as an o/o with their own authority. How do you find out which insurance(s) you need to have to book loads off boards?

Very good. Thank you.
Great vid
Still one of the best out there.
Great video bro. My question is I'm assuming that you already had you truck prior to the application process correct??
That’s what i actually did based on my Insurance rep recommendation to save me money! my insurance payment is due on the 15th. It worked out great!
THANKS IM TRYING FOR SAME THING!!!
What exactly did you do?thanks in advance
Thank you.
Thanks so much
It made a lot of sense .
Damn!!! That is a great idea.
good content..im a new subscriber
Awesome information but dang you drew that out as long as possible. I kept waiting to hear about what you put on the application if it asks about ins. LOL in any case Great Job, Sir. Thank you so much for sharing!!!
it made since. The insurance was activated 8, or 9 days later , which will actually let you "run,Work" for 18 days until your next insurance payment from the date you where granted operating authority. instead of loosing a full 30 days of paid insurance and making Zero Money
I was told the weekends don't count only business day's.
FYI : the insurance companies has direct connect with the FMCSA it can show up the same day I’ve done it multiple times . Never waited not even 5 days.
A theory is an explanation,
A hypothesis is an idea like the one you had.
My professor had a joke when people say “I have a theory about this ”...
to which he would say. “No you don’t, trust me if you did I would of read about you by now.”
Regardless i appreciate the information and your channel. 👍🏻
Good stuff
Great info. How if you wanna book a load from your truck and send and receive documents with brokers? Do you have to fax it from truck stop or via email or app? I’m working on getting my own authority hopefully next year, because I’m still how to run my business before jumping in.
Its law! 😎The main point is to have insurance!👍🏿😎
How would it work if you haven't purchased your truck yet? Because I believe that you have to have insurance on your truck before it leaves the lot.
Thank you in advance
This killed me right off the jump insurance didn’t let dot know I had insurance for 30 days really killed my pockets
Thanks d
most insurance companies take 2 months as a down payment so tho the theory is good having the 2 months is even better. Good job.
When I started I did something similar to this. But, what I did was put in my application and then waited the 21 days. I figured that there is a reason they are sitting on it for that long so I didn’t want something to come up at the last minute before that period Was over that would lead to me not getting started after I had made the insurance payment. So after the 21 days was over, that’s when I made the deposit on my insurance and waited for my authority to become officially active then I hit the road. This maximize my time and allowed me the Full21 days to make sure something crazy didn’t happen with FM CSA that would keep me sitting at home after I had made my insurance payment.
just curious, how much was your insurance per month when you started with a fresh dot? Thanks
Exxxxxxxxactly! I did this same thing
So I’m hearing different methods some failed some worked yours seems more ideal so check this out
I have my LLC, EIN, Dot medical card, business account.
I started the FMCA Application but I haven’t submitted it yet, so based off your process should I submit the FMCSA app now and go ahead and do the mcs 150, UCR, get the rental truck, and do the boc3 within the 21 days ?
@@Randyjj92 do your boc3 as soon as you are done with the application. You can’t do your mcs150 until you get the PIN number in the mail, which will come after get the mc&dot number
Nice, how long did it take after the the 21 days for the mc to become active? Thanks
Genius.
For amazon relay insurance requirements do you need a (Bmc-90x) form to be accepted?
Fmcsa told me it’s 21 business days to activate authority. That’s longer than what I’ve been hearing. They even told me what date I can expect to have it active and when I should get insurance
Great info and organizing of the file
Lets connect Real Estate, Finance and Logistics
Game game game Dave bet 👌🏽💯
Hey bro did you need , MCS90 Filings, State Filings or any filings when setting up your insurance? For box truck
David McGill, perfect! This is why and how having critical thinking skills saves money and gives anyone an advantage. Great Demonstration of your concept with tested living proof.
Wisdom, 👍.
Used the hack i paid my insurance 2 days ago filed authority on feb 4,, They told me today I am scheduled to go active march 3 at 1201 am
Hi David. What happens after I have filed for my DOT Authority, and I am still waiting for my commercial insurance to process after the 21 day period? In other words what if the commercial insurance process took longer than 21 days. What will happen to my DOT Authority/ filing?
