So great that you give a bit of a chemistry lesson during the process. Knowing why a certain step should be taken makes me pay more attention to the process. Cake looks yummy.
You've turned my 6 year old into an aspiring baker. He asks for Preppy Kitchen everyday after school. Now just got figure out how to manage his sweet tooth.
Consider them doing more gifting. Causes less nibbles and makes many friends. We share with teachers, emergency services and of course our dentist staff.
If you run out of people to gift (probably won't happen), you can also look up those "dessert for one" recipes where you're using half an egg or something to make one cupcake. And then the whole family can share that
Find old Alton Brown Good Eats video's. My youngest, who is now 24, grew up watching him. It mixes science in cooking/baking methods. She has been cooking since she was 10 on her own, obviously when her dad or I were home or her older siblings. The science method in the cooking/baking sparks further interests.
I share my baked goods with yet older neighbors who have a hard time doing simple tasks. They also want small portions, so it helps all around. They sure watch over the gardens of berries and fruit trees now.
Those of us who grew up in Detroit may remember Sanders Gold Loaf Delight--a slice of Sanders pound cake, a scoop of Sanders ice cream, and Sanders hot fudge. Yum!
Just wanted to tell you that I made your recipe and used Greek plain yogurt in place of the sour cream. It is delish especially with macerated strawberries and red raspberries. I am 54 and never made pound cake before. Ty. :)
We used to dunk pound cake into milk and eat it. This was a recalled memory once you said you didn't need any butter on it. I went from that to "why would you need butter?" to "dip it in milk!" Thanks for the smile and fond memory of having pound cake with mom in the kitchen!
This looks delish. And yes, toasted pound cake is amazing. The sugars caramelize into a delicious toasty top. I like to serve with fruit compote and whipped cream or ice cream
Thank you for sharing this recipe! I love pound cake! Actually the historic recipes are not so dense as you might expect without baking powder. In fact, they would always use a copper bowl to whisk the eggs before adding them to the batter. The eggs and copper react together, which gives the cake a natural raising agent. This was so well known back then, that it's not mentioned in the old recipes. But it does work! 😀
Thanks much, I tried it and wow it’s so good and delicious. Thanks again. Note: I was out of source cream and I substituted it with tablespoon of cream cheese.
Here in Bavaria in my family we call this cake 'Eischwer' because you weigh the eggs and add the same amount of sugar and flour. Similar to the original British recipe. Yummy and a staple food.
Similar to the example you mentioned, toasting and adding cream cheese, I toast it, spread a bit of butter on it, and then spread a nice tart jam, red plum is my favorite.
I saw this last night.Had to make it this morning.Wow what a great cake.Tasty cake without frosting.I will make again. So easy.Next time more vanilla for me.I made with a hand mixer No problems.🎉
Oh gosh, I am from the South, this is the first scratch cake I learned to make. Nothing beats a homemade Pound Cake. There are so many recipes, the Whipping Cream Pound Cake is one of my favorites.
I absolutely love a simple pound cake!! I like to add sugar to the sides of my bake pan instead of flour for a sugary crust and on the top before baking for another sugary golden top crust
Oh my gosh!!! Your Mexican chocolate stirrer!!! My mom brought one back from Mexico in 1959 from her honeymoon and i still have it!! You must treasure that🤎💛🤎💛
I have made quite a few recipes from your videos. Such a variety of food and baked goods too. Thankyou for the variety and your charming personality. I made your shortbread cookies today. Just wanted to say thanks
Pound cake is my absolute favorite cake to bake and eat. Seems like I’ve been making pound cakes all my life 😅, and my Mom was a baker but, John showed me a couple of things I didn’t know ie. I always use a mixing blade to make my cakes “never” the whisker & I’ve always mixed my lb. cake till smooth. I’m going to try his way in a few minutes.♥️
I am so enjoying all of your baking videos. The one I’m watch one of them now that is from 8 months ago. Before I forget how are the boys doing. Your Christmas video with the your husband and the boys making Christmas cookies had me in stitches because the very same thing happened to me. Love to see more videos of you and your family. Sweet. Thanks 8:43
❤I can’t wait to try making this thank you!! I’m not feeling too well hear lately but as soon as can this looks n sounds amazing! You’re always so inspiring and great at explaining!!and fun to watch thank you ❤
Yummy 😋 you had me at pound cake John. My mom always put a light coating of soften butter on a warm slice of homemade pound cake…..extra fattening but so freaking delicious. ♥️ Love & hugs.
When my mother in law would bake pound cake, she would make a lemon drip topping for it and drizzle it over the top. Once the topping set, she would serve the cake. That topping made the pound cake so good, especially when she used lemon juice in it to make it a lemon pound cake.
I JUST WATCHED YOUR POUND CAKE VIDEO YOU HAD ME SALIVATING I JUST MADE YOUR POUND CAKE AND ITS SOO DELICIOUS & MOIST & EASY TO MAKE THIS WILL BE MY GO TO POUND CAKE RECIPE FOR NOW ON AND I JUST SUBSCRIBED SO, I CAN WATCH ALL OF YOUR DELICIOUS YUMMY VIDEOS I WILL TRY MAKING THE OTHERS !!!:❤💯💯💯💯👍👍👍
Well, I know what I'm making this weekend! FYI -- saw a recipe for Cinnamon Sugar French Toast made with pound cake slices -- not sure if it was a modern version cake like this or the denser original one. Another great video. Thanks!
Hi John, I have made this ( not exactly) pound cake a million times before, I just love it, so does everyone else lol I typically make it whenever I make a trifle, I used to buy jelly rolls but I find the pound cake much better tasting. Thank you for sharing, I will make this recipe next although I believe it is soooo very close, almost the same really. Thank you for sharing with us, I am looking forward to the next one. 🧚♀️Tina 🧚♀️
Just put your pound care in the oven moments ago..., thanks for all the details. Sweetened raspberries and fresh whipped cream will go on-top. The only difference is I am using raw sugar, so some extra mixing was needed on the wet ingredients. But the finished batter looked awesome. Very fluffy. Hopefully the finished product holds up with that change.
I'm a beginner, Is there any reason to use the whisk attachment instead of a scraper paddle? Does the scraper paddle increase the temp of the badder and have an adverse affect on the butter?
You explain everything so well. I love when people explain the reasons WHY they are doing each step ❤
Poundcake is great for tea parties. Put some sliced up on a plate with various types of tea on the table.
So great that you give a bit of a chemistry lesson during the process. Knowing why a certain step should be taken makes me pay more attention to the process. Cake looks yummy.
I can really tell John used to be a science teacher. He explains everything so well.
Explains how he’s yet to be caught for all of the bodies under his floorboards.
Lemon/Blueberry Pound Cake, Orange/Cranberry Pound Cake, the possibilities are endless.
😊

Shows the importance of role models for little boys

I grew up in Pontiac, Troy and then East Lansing, Mi. I do remember that brand of products!!
Former Detroit girl here! I loved that, as well as a Sanders Bumpy cake...absolutely the best.
I grew up in New Jersey but that sounds really yummy 😊!
Just wanted to tell you that I made your recipe and used Greek plain yogurt in place of the sour cream. It is delish especially with macerated strawberries and red raspberries. I am 54 and never made pound cake before. Ty. :)
