- Hey everyone!
Today is day ONE of having my laminator machine and we have big plans! This is my very first "test" project I made and I was so excited to share with you!!! Below is a list of all the items shown that you need to get started! Please keep in mind this is a small run set for light crafting. Not recommended for doing a lot of items as this is very time consuming if you have 50+ items a day to run. I would reccomend the Heidi Swapp Minc Machine. (Link below)
Sorry for the low quality video, I was just to excited to share that I just filmed on my cell phone. Let me know if you guys have any questions as I would be happy to answer!
Amazon Basics Laminator: www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-P...
Deco Foil: www.amazon.com/Deco-Foil-Tran...
Black toner Laser printer: (The black one I have is an older model, the Brother HL-2240D)
New color laser printer coming in today I ordered the Canon imageCLASS LBP612CDW
www.amazon.com/Canon-imageCLA...
Cardstock I got at Michaels - Хобби
Running it through the laminator twice is a valuable tip -- thanks. I was getting small patches not sticking which still looks good, but not always what I want.
AWESOME!! I had resisted jumping on the foiling trend but after seeing what I can do with my laser printer, I've ordered a machine and foils. Can't WAIT to try this method out!! It certainly opens some creative doors!
Yaaaay!!!
You have no idea how long it’s taken me to find a useful video like this. I’ve been searching for days. This is incredibly helpful
Aw I am so happy to help!
Just got my minc and I can’t wait to create 😍
Wooohoo!!!!
Really cool idea! Thanks so much for sharing!
Now THAT is FREAKING cool!
Thank you so much for showing us how to make this!!!
One suggestion, though... If the laminator is really heating up, it may be an idea to put a piece of timber or plywood under it to stop it discolouring your table (which it will over time, as your table looks to be laminate). Note - don't use MDF (medium density fibreboard), that's really, aah, bad if it heats up, but if you use timber (or maybe a timber kitchen chopping board), it will save your table!
That is a great idea!! I don't usually use it for very long periods of time but that is very good to know!
Tysm 🤍
Thanks for sharing. This was awesome.
Thanks for watching!!!
Super rad. Great video 🤜🤛
Thank you!!!
Wow that’s so cool
Use parchment paper instead of print paper, you'll only have to run once!
Oooh great tip!! Thanks for sharing!
Would I put the image and foil in parchment paper instead of a folded piece of regular paper? I'm new to this :)
@@Twitterbug0802 you can do either! But I like the paper better because parchment sometimes has a texture and may leave ripples in the foil.
do you use it to cover it at the top?? also is it worth buying it ?? let me knowit would help me alot if you replied :)
Sorry; I'm new to this so print w/the laser printer on parchment paper instead of regular copy paper? I just want to be sure I understand. Thanks!
It's great..thanks for sharing
looks good
Hi! I’m mesmerized! I’m only confused about one thing, which foil are you using? Is this the same as the heat quilling foil from We R Memory Keepers?
Hi I just use Deco foil. You can find it on Michaels or Hobby Lobby or online like retailers like Amazon
Yaaass! A crafter that cusses.. love it! Great project
Hahah thank you! It's hard not to!! 😂
I wasn't sure if I heard what I thought I heard you say.. . Too cute.
The ink tank system appears to be much better than the cartridge system ruclips.net/user/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 and a lot cheaper to run. The machine was easy to set up. A small point but I thought they'd be a USB cable included to help with the set up but there was none. I've been using it now for a few weeks and it seems like a good product and superior to my previous printers which were all troublesome HP machines.
Hi!!! I found this video mindblowing and wanted to ask: Is it possible to print on a sheet of baking paper, foil that and then transfer the already „cut“ artwork to another surface with heat? I‘d love to put a design on a handmade book but I don’t know if that’s possible!
Ooh that would be very fun to experiment with. I would actually print on laser transfer paper. Just remember that you will have to mirror the image if you are transferring that print or it will look backwards on the finished result. The reason I wouldn't do baking paper is because it may get jammed in your printer and that seems like a nightmare!
Did you have to do anything special when you printed from your laser printer, like settings etc.?
Nope! I just printed like normal. Now when I say normal, always make sure they your print settings match your paper type! Becuase that effects how the toner adheres to the paper.
what setting do you use when you print you're toner sheets? thick paper?
OMG i dont know if this possible 😍🥰
I know it's been a long time since the video was taken, but I have a question, is it possible to print with a laser printer on a sticker sheet and then create the lamination with a foil sheet? I would love to know, thanks for the tutorial
Hi! Yes as long as the toner print is from a laser.
Hey! Did you use sticker paper to print out the design? I wanted to create stickers for my lashes business and I wanted to have the reflected gold look to it.
Yes I have! Use laser sticker paper.
Can you run this through the laminator without It running the sticking ability
Hello, I really liked your video. But can this be used if I printed the design with an Inkjet printer?
Sorry no only laser
I just got my foils n laminator today so excited.
Ok my ? Is
The machine comes with pouches do i remove it before i do the foils craft ?
I always use the paper method now. I noticed the foil doesn't work very well with the laminating pouches. I think they just blocked too much heat that the foil needs
Those are laminating pouches. They would laminate your foil and paper together like old fashioned drivers licenses.
Have you tried foiling on clear sticker paper? If so, are there any specific clear sticker paper sheets you recommend?
Yes I have! Onlinelabels.com have laser printed sticker labels!
@@projectpinupgirlI would love to see a video on that as well.
Hi. Question? Did you use the 5 mil or 3 mil power setting? I have the same laminator.
she answered another comment . It's 5 mil
I'm watching this because I put the film and my card in directly and it took me 3 hours to pick burned and twisted mess out from the rollers. Let's just say, not the best first experience trying to heat transfer foil. If I had watched this first then it would have saved me 3 hours and a whole bunch of fowl-language. My neighbors must think I purchased stock in truth social. lol
😂😂😂
What type of paper/cardstock did you use? Looks awesome
Just cardstock from michaels :)
Hi, just a question. So the laser printer foiling can be used with ANY LAMINATOR aside feom minc?
Yes it can!
Great idea! thanks for sharing! :) Will the foil stick with ink-jet printed paper?
No, this works only with black laser toner. Hence, a laser printer is required. Also, consider Minc machine since it has several temperature levels and it heats up fast. Thick cardstock requires more heat.
Thank you for the reply :)
Hi! Do you use normal paper to the transfer ??? What kind of paper do you use to not make a mess ?
I just used copy paper. No mess.
What is the reason of bad foil stamping? many of points after laminating are still black and they are now covering with gold foil. Should i print with higher quality or i need to repeat the laminating proces few times to get best resaults ?
same problem
What type of paper do you use to transfer?, does it has to be transfer paper or could it be normal paper?
Any paper! I used cardstock here.
Hello I have the printer foil and blank wedding invitations. I need to know if there is a special program I must use to create the words and pictures I want to print on them or can I just use Microsoft words... I’m stuck and need help plzzs
Yes you can use word!
I use this method, however everytime I foil it leaves a residue of the gold foil on the entire cardstock. Do you know how I can get rid of that or tips?
Is there any toner left on the paper? The part you dont want foil, should not have any toner on it.
I'm getting a residue or left over foil on my paper where there is no ink. It's not a lot, but it's still not a clean look. Any ideas why this may be happening?
Maybe clean your rollers by running a few blank sheets through?
Hi! I’ve been trying this method and I keep getting a crackle/distressed effect. It’s like the foil sticks everywhere and not just the laser design. How do I solve this?
Try printing your paper with the label setting preference as it's the hottest the laser gets and adheres more of the toner to the page
Does it have to be freshly printed? Or can I print one day and foil another?
Great question! Nope you can totally batch print one day and foil the next. :)
Ive been printing black ink on black paper and the foil refuses to stick to some parts. I have the same laminator. I haven’t been doing the paper sandwich though. Maybe that’s the problem 🤷🏻♀️
Or your heat setting!!
Do you run the laminator on heat?
Wouldn’t that just foil it all down?
Yes that's the only way the laminator works. It only sticks to toner :)
how can I use this on, for example, a book cover? I like that you don't have to weed anything with this method
I know you can buy a gel and paint your design on!
Can you put a towel over the paper and use an iron to transfer the gold?
No because you have to print on it with your printer. Use htv for that method.
thanks for sharing the video, I have tried and succeeded, but unfortunately the foil results are still in the form of patches or lack of detail ... what is wrong or what is the solution?
Try the highest heat setting and run it 2-3 times :) That usually works for me!! You can always rerun it after you peel it with a fresh foil.
projectpinupgirl my lamimating machine only have setting "hot", without temperatur setting. If i laminate 2 or 3 times the result is block full laminate, not only laser print area
@@customdept8889 thats strange because the foil only reacts to the toner from your printer... Maybe try the Heidi Minc or a different laminator.. Its probably not getting hot enough.
Yah.. thanks for sharing.. i will try again
Make sure the foil is made to use with toner.
Is your laminator on the 3 mil or 5 mil setting?
5 Mil :)
How’s the Amazon laminator holding up right now? Do you still recommend it?
Still going strong! And yes!! I even bought a bigger size!
Here is the larger size! www.amazon.com/dp/B01M0FNZD1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_cRY7oMRfMkwHc
What heat setting did you use? I've been trying this on card stock with the same laminator and nothing happens
Ive used the 5 setting. The highest one. Also did you use a laser printer? This does not work on ink jet.
@@projectpinupgirl Yeah I am using a laser printer and making sure it's super super dark
@@yvera622 Im not sure why it wouldn't work then... Maybe try a different paper? Are you using heat transfer foil?
How did you make this a sticker after you printed it on card stock ...?
You can use sticker paper with your laser printer. This was just a test on cardstock
If its the heat making this stick to the toner could you not use a heat press as well? Then you could set the temp, and timer for the press. I'd imagine a lot of people who make shirts let's say, would have a heat press.
Yes you can!
@@projectpinupgirl awesome. I have both. Might have to try this for a bday gift idea or something. Thanks for your vid and reply
If the butterfly was colored, let’s say blue and red, but had the black outlines. Would it still only foil the black?
This method requires toner, which is only black. A regular ink printer won’t work.
You could print the blue and red on inket then print the outline on laser and the one that was printed with the alser print would show up with foil
What brand and model is your laser printer?
Have you tried this on photo paper? Ive been wondering if it would work or not
As long as its printed with a laser! No i have only used cardstock.
Does it only work for paper? How about on velvet fabric? I mean the laminating method..
I haven't tried.
Im a first time here and curious if the foil will automatically stick to black outline? Or you just have put something in Black outline?thanks for the response :)
Yes because the toner gets heated and creates a bond between the toner and foil so it will stick to the paper.
Hello, thanks for the demo.
It is working with mat surface ?
RawJ2AM Hi! Yes this was just with regular cardstock.
How do you like the Canon printer?
I LOVE it!!!!!
What is the difference between doing this with a laser printer and an ink jet? Would an ink printer work?
Ink jet will not work with this method. Only laser because the toner adheres to the foil with heat.
You said "fuck up". LOL
Can you use a heat press instead of a laminator? Im scared of it getting stuck inside my laminator ive had that happen before cos it was too thick
I haven't tried but possibly!
@@projectpinupgirl thank you 🙏
yes you absolutely can, with great results. (set your heat same as you would for a hot-peel vinyl HTV from experience)
@@moonshinepz thank you very much
I own the same laminator and foils but I always get bugs and the foiling is incomplete... Do you have an idea why this happens?
Because your toner is not getting hit enough. When printing, use the labels preference.
@@projectpinupgirl thank you so much ❤️
I tried this for the first time, the only problem I had was the foil also transferred onto all of the card and my design. how do I get the foil to not transfer on all of the card?
You have to make sure that there is only toner wher you want the foil to go when printing.
@@projectpinupgirl my design is printed with only toner but where their isnt toner their is still speckles and traces of where the foil was. the only thing I can think of is using a different foil brand?
Hi there!! I have a question. How is the foil sticking to the butterflies without using the glue pen? I recently bought the deco pen because I have a few art pieces I want to add foil too. Just curious on how that works
When you use the foil with the printer toner method, it is reactive to the toner when put through the laminator as heat bonds the two together. I haven't tried using a deco pen but I am sure there are probably other videos on youtube about using them!
Can you put sticker paper through the laminator and it still be sticker paper?
Im pretty sure. Just dont peel the back off.
I have the same laminate or and I am having a lot of trouble with unwanted foil adhering to pretty much the entire surface. How do you avoid that? I've tried both settings and it does it with each one. Thank you!
Are you using a laser printer? Inkjet will not work with this process
@@projectpinupgirl yes I am
@@projectpinupgirl I bought it especially for this application
@@high5back694 I see the problem... Is there a background to the image? Because if there is a slight color, the toner will pick that up. The solution is to remove the background with a program like Photoshop.
@@projectpinupgirl no back ground at all. Built it on complete blank canvas
does the laminator do as well with tank printer?
No only laser
I have many questions about this?! Can I print in regular printer and then do this?!
No you have to use a laser printer.
@@projectpinupgirl why tho? Sorry, im just curious.
@@Neilien Because the heat will not transfer with regular ink. It HAS to be toner.
What type of paper are you using? I think for me the card stock paper is too thick for my printer. Everything comes out grainy and speckled
The problem you are having is you a printing on too low of a heat on your printer. In the printer preferences switch it to labels, so the printer will get hotter and lay the toner down properly so it wont be speckled and flake off.
@@projectpinupgirl thank you will try this!
@@projectpinupgirl it came out so much worse! 😭
@@kerin4016 hmm.. Im not sure then. This is what I use.
What is the weight of your cardstock?
I was wondering what The differences between this Amazon laminator and a mink machine? Besides the fact that it’s slow. Appreciate your response! Thankyou
Hey..I have been trying this technique but the foil just keeps getting ripples/ crackles ruining my prints😭 any tips to avoid those?
Did you change the heat setting to labels on your printer?
@@projectpinupgirl I got it printed at local print shop..didn't know about the settings
@@diptitrivedi342 oh yeah you have to tell them it needs to be printed on a high heat setting

Did ur machine switch from ready and on my gold isn’t sticking on
Im sorry but I need more info. Im a little confused on the question
How do you find your new canon printer versus the printer you used for this video? Same results?
I'm a little sorry I'm confused on the question? All my printers have come out great
projectpinupgirl in terms of foiling results? I’ve heard there can be patchy foiling with certain printers/toners.
@@iamcold93 I didnt have any issues!
Laminator is cold or hot function for this?
Hot ;)
is this impression you made first normal or laser?
This will only work with laser.
How do you transfer the finished product leather and othe media

I do this exact same thing but the foil sticks all over the clear sticker paper I use. Does anyone know why? Is the label paper melting? Or is it the laminator...
It's the paper melting
@@projectpinupgirl ik that the paper is melting but how do I fix that? Like it's regular sticker paper, I've seen plenty of videos of people using similar products.

Is the laser printer mandatory?
Yes. This will not work without using a laser printer.
Would this work with an injection printer?
Only laser :)
Only works with black ink? I'm not sure how the laminator works :l
You can use other inks but they will be covered anyways with the foil. Black heats up the best with the laminator. Please read the directions of your laminator for use.
Does it have to be a laser printer?
Yes. Inkjet will not work

Yes just remember the foil will adhere to everywhere where there is toner!
projectpinupgirl I tried this and the foil only sticks to certain parts of my invitation :( , why is that?
