do you know how to remove the silver foil and turn some of it see through?
I am having a problem getting the cut lines to line up if I do color with my inkjet on parts and then want to foil. Maybe I just need to make a more simple header for my stickers and no color on the items.

We use a silhouette portrait machine to cut our stickers. It is connected to our computer through the Silhouette software program! We are able to design, print, and cut from the software.

Fantastic video, I found this very helpful. I am using a mink to foil with and I am having trouble with the foil sticking to the unprinted part of the sticker, as well as the toner part. Is this a heat issue?

hmmmm im curious, why 30 minutes preheat? the greenlight turns on once 120 degrees is reached. on my laminator it takes around 5 minutes to reach that temperature. so i don't understand why you have to wait 30 minutes.

Thank you so much for sharing this! I was wondering, how is it possible for you silhouette to scan the marks on the clear paper? With my silhouette it doesn’t work! I always have to make little corners with white sticker paper so my machine can scan them. 💕
Our portrait 1's also have some trouble scanning sometimes- usually, it's because the clear glossy sticker paper reflects light which interferes with the scanning. We try different placements of the cutting mat when loading it onto the silhouette machine. Another trick we'll do is to lift up the cutting mat while it's trying to scan the first corner- this seems to help the clear paper from reflecting light.
Hi lovely how do you prevent the foil from getting on other parts where the ink is not? I am using clear label stickers but it gets smudged on the clear parts

I know only too well, how much time, research and expense goes into sourcing quality products to use in our own small business. I'm considering moving into foiling and I've been looking at buying an industrial foiling machine because I've heard that some 'designer' ones only last 12 months through heavy usage...which isn't ideal. Can you use any laminator to foil? Or does it have to get to a certain temp/have to be an industrial laminator?
Any laminator will work, but if you want a consistently good foil then you might want to consider investing in an industrial laminator.

We've never used a Cricut before, we are mostly familiar with Silhouettes, but I'm sure you can foil with them too!

Hello, how do you make Print and cut work for you in portraits? I have one and I have never been able to do it
It's hard to say without working with you 1:1, but through lots of practice and troubleshooting we were able to find a process that works for us!
now this is a question I dont think has been asked but is very important to me.... where or what type of shelves do you use to save space like that? I have 12 cricuts and 8 scan n cuts and I NEED this space saving hack but am so concerned with the shelves moving while the machines are in use. Please help if you don't mind. I would really appreciate it so much. Thank you in advance. Aurora x

Not at all! As long as you're not scratching the foil with anything sharp it should be fine

No, it has to be laser printer. Inkjets don't have toner for the foil to stick to.

Some foil react to toner, not ink.
That means you need to buy toner-active foil.
It's not always the best quality but look around at ebay and aliexpress and get some cheap sheets/rolls and play with till you find the best way.
While I appreciate the time it took to put this video together the brand of foil you use is a MASSIVE element of how successful your foiling is. It’s a bit like making a video on how to make the best roast potatoes and then not sharing the type of potatoes you use. 🤷🏻♀️
In our personal experience, we don't see a significant difference in foil quality based on the brand of foil. I have linked in the description a brand of foil we've personally used in the past. They sell a wide variety of foil colors in a smaller amount that is perfect for personal use. We don't disclose our current foil manufacturer because they only sell foil in bulk, and I wouldn't recommend that to anyone who doesn't need that much. x
It’s looks like binding 101 foil their foil more weighted like this
If you buy the foils in bulk from Alibaba they are $9 per roll instead of paying $28 for a roll from binding 101.

Hi!! Our course covers all the steps of foiling (design, cut, print, foil). The printing and foiling part should be the same regardless of Silhouette or Cricut. The design and cut part will be different since the software and machine used will be different. So if all you are interested in is the actual foiling part, then this course still works for a Cricut user! I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any more questions!
