Man this song has hit home from the first time I heard it. I'll be 6th generation on our property. Dad was going over the will and what is in it. Kept saying x-amount of acres for 8500 a acre. This gun is worth this much and the tractors can get a good price at the auction. I stopped him and said anything you leave me I'll try my hardest to get it to my kids. From the truck to the land to the guns. It's our family's and our legacy. He about cried. I about did to realizing he thought I just wanted to sell. Thank you cody. This song is amazing.
You’re a National treasure and your family is the best of America. Keep the traditions going if you can. They’re priceless values that we’ve lost way too much of.
This video is better than I have ever imagined in my head after hearing the song for the first time months ago. Well worth the wait. Amazing song and a even more amazing video to go along with it.
You sir are what makes America great. I pray that you hold onto all of your property and it’s passed down for generations to come. God bless you and have a wonderful Independence Day.
Me either 😢 I hear this on the radio all day. I knew the video would be like this. Can't see through the tears! Running on about 2 hours sleep doesn't help 😮
I’m now living on land that my Daddy inherited from my granddaddy , I sometimes think of selling it . This song puts a halt to that thought .I have a written will leaving it to my great grand children.
This song made me bawl my eyes out too, what did it for me was when I realized the wife was no longer there, and then he puts his hand on the empty rocker like she’s still there. Yeah and not much sleep doesn’t help, no wonder everything makes me emotional
I can't stop the tears from flowing. 😭😭😭🤧 Such a beautiful video between him carrying his dog and remembering his wife. If CoJo doesn't win Video of the Year for this, it's a travesty.
"Keep your money cuz a man can't leave his dog" That hit hard. We live on an 89 acre farm and had to bury 2 of our precious dogs beside our big lilac tree. Could never leave them. People just don't understand generations of farmers and family.
Like they always say when it come to the awards for any music it’s gotta be rigged because the people you see win usually it’s someone you’ve never heard of or see their stuff played as much as everyone else they’re running against!!
Development happening everywhere it seems, they're selling all our farmland to China and the rest of it they're building houses or solar panels on. I guess people forget where food comes from and it's sad to see all the family farms disappearing, I hate 'progress'.
The wait is killing me you know it's gonna be epic. Thinking back about when he was asked about the song and his response was that it was written by a songwriter years before about a family member of his own. But he had held onto it until he found the right person to perform the song, and he made one hell of a good choice in who he let perform his song. Couldn't see any other country artist give this song the justice and respect it deserves more than Cody Johnson.
I love Cody Johnson. He's my favorite singer in country music and I also love his Gospel stuff. If you haven't watched the movie Dear Rodeo about that song and his life it is an absolute must!
Couldn’t agree more. He is perfect to give this song the respect it deserves. Fighting right now in my hometown to preserve the farm that my mom and dad built with blood, sweat and tears
Not only farmers, but EVERYbody who owns ANY property. So many "Mom & Pop" businesses going down this road, almost overnight. Traditions lost to, commercialism. (This popped up playing after I googled "Daddy Had a Truck", which I heard on a FB reel today for the first time. This made me tear up tonight. I just buried my cat, "Buddy", of 20 yrs about two mos ago. Unfortunately I don't own any land, but whenever/wherever I go, he's coming with me).
@@dschneider48 thats because Hollywood and the big labels have told Nashville you got to be woke. You got to bring POP COUNTRY and sing about shit thats not real life. You got to be more worried about having Post Malones & Jelly Belly's on country radio, trying to be mentors to tomorrows kids. I have so many friends that are pro writers in Nashville and they have given up.
Just lost my best buddy Gunner (yellow lab) last December. He was 13 years old and a great duck dog. We spent many seasons in a John boat. He’s buried under a cross under an oak tree in my yard. I can’t listen to the song without crying. This hits so close to home.
Bobby -- I know the pain of losing a best friend aka my dog. They are the best, right? Plus, labs are the happiest dogs on the planet! I am truly sorry for the loss of your best buddy, Gunner. The fact that the song hits so close to home tells me Gunner is letting you know he's okay and loves and misses you, too. You will see him again one day. Thanks for being such a great "Dad" to Gunner. Sending prayers for comfort to you, because I understand all to well they are NOT "just a dog". They are our best friends (and mine are my babies). Rest Easy on High, sweet Gunner. Your Daddy loves and misses you so much.
I was once that little girl…the dirt between my toes was far more precious than the diamonds that the future gave. We stood back and watched that dirt get signed away when cancer took dad in just 26 days. Even as an adult watching it go, I saw and heard daddy saying “come on inside, it’s getting dark, sis. And you look tired”. That dirt filled several acres of land…we built our home with our own hands. Saying goodbye crushed our hearts…but not as much as losing him ripped our world apart I still have some of that dirt in a jar, a few rocks and some grass that has withered away. But the price for that jar is far greater than gold. And the memories we shared I will forever hold. Thanks, CoJo for keeping it real! For a reminder that hurt don’t always heal. To let ya know that money is nothing compared to a house built on dirt and filled with lovin’
My husband used to talk about sitting on the porch rocking and watching our grandchildren. He never got to see his youngest go past second grade. This song makes me think of that. Thank you Cody.
“Keep your money cause a man can’t leave his dog” you damn right!! I lost mine of 15 years last year and that part just hits so hard to me. Miss him every day.
Same I cried unexpectedly first time I heard the song and that part specifically cause my best friends ashes are still in a cedar box on my dresser and I’ve kept his ashes since he died when I was 18 years old (35 now) best dog a boy could ask for 14 years exactly.
@@Grimm1605Gaming I feel ya, I have my boy Bo on my dresser in a memorial box as well. Fifteen years and 15 football seasons watched together, he was my best friend and I’m gonna be getting his paw print tatted on me eventually. I hope you’ve healed well and I will be praying for you so God protects you and holds you up when things feel too hard🙏🙏🙏
The part bout the dog hit hard mine are still alive 3.5 yrs old ..I just hope they got another 10 in them...Plus I'm singing this in our local fair.. Love this song so much . All Cody's stuff hits hard in the feel goods ..😢😊
I a strong woman ugly cried like a baby to this song. The dog was the kick in the ribs for me as well.I lost my girl just over a year ago. She's buried under the prettiest tree in the most beautiful spot on my property. I visit her often. I will never leave my dog. 😢
Amen! Plus I love the daughter walking up and telling the men to leave. Proof that he raised a great daughter who only cares about her Dad's happiness and could care less about the $$$.
Good money isn't better than good land. We need farms here in the states still. Not to get political but big agro has to change because it's killing our agriculture
This song hits home so hard. My dad is a 4th generation farmer and has been approached by the city trying to buy his land to turn it into who knows what. My husband and I will take over his farm in the next few years. We’re raising our boys on the farm and have a third one on the way. Couldn’t ask for a better way of life. I can’t help but cry when I hear this amazing song and to finally see a video to it… ❤❤❤
This one is getting me so bad right now as I just had to say goodbye to one of my dogs yesterday. The rest of the animals we have lost while we’ve lived on our 65 acres are buried in the back of our property.
We judt had to put our very much loved Roxy down. I know what you mean, we miss her so much. She had a good long life. It hurts so much. And where his best friend is buried. I lost my best friend, he just turned 40.
Cody Johnson, in my opinion, is one of the only true country artists left. Everything he puts out is destined for pure country gold! I would love to see a full on gospel album, and if you need a backup vocalist, I'm available! 👍
Nobody will ever top the king of country…. But this guys about as close as anyone’s going to get, for years we’ve waited for that one person to get close to it….Cody Johnson is here guys
As a farmer, this song almost made me weep. Land is one of God’s most precious creations, and He left it up to us to give it all the Tender Loving Care in the world and save it for future generations. Thank you, Josh Phillips for writing this beautiful song, and thank you, Cody Johnson for recording it.
Wyndefall Farm, Louisiana is just starting out, been mine about 3 months. This is the kind of life I want and am going to give my family. Powerfull song, an anthem of sorts. God has truly blessed us and as long as my house serves the Lord I know we'll be alright.
I don’t think I’ve ever cried to a music video in my entire life but this Cody was a master piece thank you and you give me a new perspective on things so thank you to all the farmers and ranchers out there for what you do
This song healed my heart today. We’re so programmed to just keep buying shit we don’t need. I’ve thought about selling our farm in Mississippi and moving back home to Tennessee (retired military), but never could decide. Now, I know why = heart fixed. Thank you Cody. Thank you.
I believe this song really hits home for thousands of people. We are farmers in Arkansas and just the thought of someone trying to buy the memories and blood sweat and tears poured into this land pulls on my heart strings. God has truly blessed you, your family, listeners connecting through your music and what you stand for. Thank you for this beautiful song. If you ate today Thank a Farmer, Truckdriver, and a Veteran!
I love this song reminds me that when I go back to my hometown...my mom passed and my sister sold the house and that's all the grandchildren knew...it's so Sad..love and miss u mama it will it will be a year this October...so selfish..the house was sold before 6 months...so sad 😢😢😢❤❤🙏🙏
Man is this my story, proposed to my wife on my dads farm under an oak tree by the pond right next to where my buddy was buried. Now my little girl runs under those trees is it raining in here or is it me 🥲🤣lord am I blessed
My daddy passed away October of 2023 he was my hero my everything…I didn’t grow up with the best mom after they divorced when I was just two but daddy always made me feel loved, important and he was the best daddy a girl could ask for…He owned 14 acres at the end of a two mile driveway….he built a two bedroom house in hopes to get custody of me….he worked that land until the age of 88 when he just couldn’t anymore..he ended up having to leave the place he’d cherished to come and stay with me,my husband and his grands as we watched him fade away…He loved his place on the side of that mountain…he was so proud..:He made it a home and a place I enjoyed visiting on weekends…He made the best pancakes and he taught me about gardening and the love he shared for animals can’t be matched…His stories were the best!! ❤This song reminds me of him soooo much!!
Your dad is not he's not gone let's just say this, madam. He's always gonna be in your heart and your family's hearts. I can't tell if I lose my parents not sure if I can handle it? however my parents tell me not to cry! 😊
Rip to your daddy I lost my mama back in 2019 over 5 years ago she was really young only 45 I was 20 at the time she passed and I still miss her like she passed away yesterday
This is my all time favorite country song, each word speaks so true and Cody Johnson did such an amazing job singing it! If I owned a farm I would never want to sell it either!
Cody...this song made me realize and understand why my father-in-law will never leave his property...regardless of how old he is or how much work it requires...❤ 👏👏👏
This one always gets to me nephew, I love it. You come a long way from being a boss man. I preciate the life you have given my favorite neice. Love you boy.
Always hated my dirt yard till this song. I can’t imagine giving up the land who made me into who I am today. And especially leaving so many loved dogs buried in the yard. 2:18 Broke me 💔
I've held on to my dad's land since the 1991 on thing it has been a hard some years but so worth it. The property was so cheap then but now it's worth a fortune so thankful I held on🙌🙏🙌
Son, you keep making songs like this, and you'll have a long, successful career. I'm sitting on the back step looking at my dog and the corn growing right now.
Hello beautiful, I have seen a quite handful of your comment on my post uploaded on my business page, so I decided to create a more private page to appreciate those people whose comments and good wishes encourages me and I hope to bring you guys more... thanks a lot, I feel so honored and blessed to have an amazing fan like you.
My neighbors sold their last 40 acres out behind my house. It's a damn shame. Now where cattle used to graze is a subdivided Mickey Mouse neighborhood. I can't stand to see all this land throughout Texas being sold to make room for all these Californian transplants just because they messed up their state. TEXAS WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AND IT'S A DAMN SHAME!! 🥺 😔
Living this right now. They want to come take our land. It's not a lot of land but it's ours. Been here 40 years and raised my family here, dogs and a few other critters buried here...I just sit and listen to this and see my memories.. Thanks for making a song that means something.
WOW!! So powerful! Really hits home as I am a farmers daughter. My Dad is 88 and still farming!! Hands down best song/video ever!! Thank you Cody Johnson for sharing your with tge world.
This is a absolutely fantastic song. It really makes you stop and think the only thing that truly matters in life is the memories you make with your family and friends.
Oooh UGLY CRYIN’!! This song has hit home from the moment I heard it. This video is beautiful!! Sittin here in the house my Grandad built on what’s left of the land he farmed, with the best good girl buried beneath the crepe Myrtle’s in the yard, these words have never rang any truer “You can’t buy that kinda dirt cheap.”
The fact that this video relates to almost every farmer nowadays is crazy. So many developers are trying to break tradition, family’s and life just for their money. I understand people need a place to live but is it really worth destroying so many things just for other people who care nothing about the land to move into it?! No. It’s crazy that the farmers who don’t cash out have to just adapt to the modern development.
Me too. My best buddy who spent 15 years of his life here with us is buried on this land. Several hunting dogs as well. No, we will never leave them as long as we are alive and then our daughter will continue to live here. This dirt, our home, our family, our memories all here.
the saddening part is, corporate greed has driven land prices so high that people who simply want something to leave to their kids cannot achieve these goals without being in absolute financial distress. risking it all, 24/7, 365. this song is a masterpiece that i don't believe George Strait ever surpassed, in my opinion.
41.38 acres… my brother & I are 4th gen. When the for sale sign went up, everyone cried. Even splitting it between all of us, my parents included, we cannot afford the property taxes. The conservation covenant has saved us this long, but without my elderly grandmothers that just passed’s tax breaks, it can’t anymore. My dad was born & raised & has lived his entire life on this land. He knows nothing else. My grandad & him & his brothers built every home with love on this property. Government is taxing us out. developers interested are looking at building 82 homes on it. We have no option but to cash out & move a state over for some land. & then others judge for “selling out.” This is what’s wrong with America. Dad was born here & had expected to die here. My husband & I expected to raise OUR children on this land. None of it is possible anymore.😭
I don't like all todays country but iove cody jhonson. Hes music is pure and true and u csn feel it in your heart and i love the way he keeps trye abd family
i can’t stop crying to this song i used to take both my dogs out on the john boat and fish and hunt with them lost them both a couple months ago miss them both roger and bager 😢 so real this song
God bless you Cody Johnson for the message you are putting out. My husband and I are working so hard on leaving legacies for our children and the generations after. People just don’t do that anymore. We’re southern country folks and every time we see a beautiful piece of land being turned into a neighborhood it breaks are hearts. We love watching families keep legacies going and generational wealth. America is steering away more and more from this. Keep on putting out your message brother. This is what we all need to hear and be reminded of.
I love this song. I was born and raised in the city and everyday I wished I had been born on a farm that had been handed down to the next generation. People that have that are very lucky and very blessed.
Never had a dad or any type of relationship like it.. but when I hear this song makes me want to have all that so I can experience it myself with my own family 😌..someday god will grant it to me 1:57
If you love the LORD you already have a Father who loves you and waiting to give you everything you dreamed of. I didn’t have a good relationship with my dad. I think after mom died I got to know him a bit better. He went downhill last October with Alzheimer’s. I have been keeping a journal. I never thought that little shit would ever melt my heart. I’m here with tears now. I’m gonna go see him in a bit. Sending hugs from Texas. Don’t give up we’re going home soon.
This song hits so close to my heart. I tear up every time i listen to it. I came from a broken home where family just wasn't close like they should be. The day i bought my place, my little girl was sitting right next to me.. I travel for work and i am rarely home, so i don't get to see my daughter as much as i want to.. But several times when we have been together and riding around in my truck...this song would come on and she would just reach over and grab my hand...and through the tears, we would sing this together. She knows that i would never sell my place and that she has a house and some land to raise her kids if she wants. Thank you Cody, for all the songs you have ever put out! Especially the ones that my little girl and i sing together! ❤🙏
Born and raised here in mustang Oklahoma we buried the family dog under the old pecan tree my parents hand planted 30 plus years ago 3 months later my father passed from fighting cancer for over 2 years. One day the house and land will fall into my hands and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to let it go. You can’t buy those kinda memories from me. 🖤🤘🏼
From someone who wouldn’t call themselves a fan of country music, this song is INCREDIBLE! The story, the emotions, the love…got a metal head crying over here
"A man can't leave his dog" Amen to that for sure. R.I.P. Gus 12/21/23. I will never leave you either 🥹 So many things about this song touch my heart with a deep meaning. It's really a wonderful song about life, love, and humanity. I recently laid my best friend to rest beneath a cross under a red oak tree beside another cross where first best buddy is buried. So many things in life are more important than money. I've never cried so much listening to a song before in my life.
I just heard this song for the first time today as I was driving my truck with my two "best friends" in the seat behind me, and this song just brought me to tears. My husband and I are 3rd generation family-land owners in Southern Oregon. We live in my husband's childhood home, which we bought from his mother several years ago (she stayed, living with us until she passed on in 2021). I grew up across the river from my husband. We went through school together, watched the stars on warm, summer nights from atop the roof together, and that roof is also where he proposed to me. We got married up here, raised our 3 kids up here, and our youngest son was born up here. We've been trying to hang onto it, but we are now in our 60's and having mobility issues. Takes a lot to keep our little six acres maintained. Our kids are scattered, and our 10 grandkids with them, and no one is close by anymore to help or take over. So my husband and I are discussing whether to keep trying to hold out for our kids/grandkids/and future great grandkids, or sell, since we can't afford to maintain it anymore, living on our limited pensions. Trouble is, there are so many memories here--our life is here. All of our dogs, cats, parrots, favorite roosters/hens are buried up under the trees in the forest above our home. We can still remember the fun we had as kids making our homemade zipline down our gully, the foundations of the cabin my husband first started to build when he was 16 years old and we had just met, the two old tree houses that his little brother, our three kids, and at least 6 of our 10 grandkids have played in over the decades, etc. This song just perfectly summed up our feelings for our home, and It makes me even more determined to try to find a way to hold on until at least one of our kids or grandkids can come back home and take over. Thank you so much, Cody, for so beautifully bringing this song to life. ❤
Coming from a nobody. Get your family home for one occasion. Get the youngens playing in the yard. Let them enjoy the property and see all it has to offer, the material and memories. Get everyone in the memories. Then, while the kiddos are playing, bring the rest of the family in for the hard talk. One of them out of your big family has to see it's worth more than money. It's not easy, but I believe family will back family. Best of wishes to your family and the disisons.
@houstonwilson4503 Thank you. I appreciate the advice. Two out of our three kids say they want it, but Oregon is not a place where it is easy to get a decent career and make ends meet. Right now, our kids are in the middle of raising 13 through 17- year-olds, and their businesses and careers are in mid-Tennessee, and Utah. The oldest is in Portland with his 17-yr-old daughter, and they love the big city life and have absolutely no interest in moving back to Southern Oregon. Thanks again, though--it is great advice. 🙂
What a beautifulsong it's Heart felt so so many memories happy times love things like this is not for sale no money can buy..Just touches my heart.God Bless who wrote this sing and Cody who sing it.
I cried like a baby when I first heard this song. My Pap was so proud of his homestead, and I was raised on it until my uncle sold it out from under him. The worst heartbreak was losing that property.
getting married soon and inheriting my great grandmas house that we renovated so many memories made up there i was practically raised here my dad proposed to my mom here can’t wait to start a new chapter of memories here
I can't watch it without tearing up. Unfortunately the people who hold these values true to their heart and soul are becoming fewer and fewer these days. It saddens me to see all the farms sold just in my own area. Those people where the ones who built this country. Let's not forget that!😢❤
That’s so true and were I used to live at I knew everybody there and now I don’t see them anymore and my mom Basically lost or don’t speak to them anymore and the only people that she speaks to now is my granny and my grandma and I don’t even see them that much but I’m going to see them in a couple of days
I remember before my pappy died, he told me all the huntin guns were mine when he left to his just reward, he told me if I ever sold them, he’d never forgive me, I’ve hit hard times since then, and I’ve sold every one I’ve bought since being an adult, but I’d sell my body parts before I’d sell those guns he gave me, and won’t ya know it, I’ve been prospering as of late, made enough money to buy me a nice truck and a good house for me and my kind lady, and I know it’s gods work, but I think my pappy was whispering in his ear, saying “don’t you make that bastard sell my 20 gauge”
This song is so perfect. The love of a father combined with the reminder to cherish what we have while we have it. CoJo is truly what country music needs.
“And over there under that white oak tree, beneath the cross is where my best buddy’s buried” I was balling my eyes out 😭My dog named Bailey was always there for me and she was the best thing that I had in life…she had been with me before I was even born and my heart shattered because the vet had to put her to sleep because she was really sick, now sometimes I hate living because it’s hard to live with out my best buddy 😞
That's how my sons dog spud was( my in-laws dog) he would lay On my belly when I was pregnant and lay with him after I had him. We had to put him down a month ago
My dad just sold our land so he could retire. Spent my whole life working and clearing it in hopes to spend time on it with my own family one day.. rip.
Don’t worry Mark, everything happens for a reason, and God still has a plan for you Isaiah 41:10- So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Well I hope wherever you plant your roots with your own family it can be passed down for generations to come after yall are long gone. God Bless and keep the faith💛
Guy in the yellow shirt & black hat at the beginning of the video is the guy who wrote the song. His name is Josh Phillips. Great dude. Performed beautifully by Cody.
I grieve for the land my siblings connived to keep from me. They succeeded and lost it all. Greed overtook them and stripped them bare. The land my Papa worked so hard for and on, the years my grandmother scrimped to keep it for the grandchildren, gone. Everything a person could ever need was in that land. Wild game, berries, grapes, ice cold clear spring water, spring fed fields for hay or crops, pecan and oak trees abundant. Gone, for a dollar sign. I was the only grandchild that would have never sold it, and the only one that was cut from it. With it went my heart, my sense of family, my belonging somewhere. This song, God Bless You.
Be encouraged in your broken heart. Jesus is coming back soon to take us out of here and we will come back and live in paradise on earth. Coming soon to a planet near you. Keep your chin up, time is running out.
The girl on the swing in his memory is an almost clone of our daughter right now, and she has a swing like this one. Her laugh when I push her on there is unforgettable. “…running up after one of those long days, Her big smile making every little worry fade…”. That’s her all right, and her little brother 🥹🥹 Thank you for sharing 🙏 😊
You keep farming. What ever it takes, you don't back down and you don't give up.
God willing you’ll hold onto it!
You’re a National treasure and your family is the best of America. Keep the traditions going if you can. They’re priceless values that we’ve lost way too much of.

I’m telling you what… this video was tough
That got me too first time I have seen the video and OMG was it beautiful
This song needs a “viewer discretion” warning for grown men that have a daughter and lost their dog..hot damn 😭
Yea they do
Mix in lost your best friend so can turn that one part into it actually being your friend and your dog . It hit me like a ton of bricks .
The dog part so sad I hate to have a dog pass away
Yep.
Amen. I have a son but a man don’t leave his dog hit dome
To all the farmers and ranchers, praying for you all!❤️

Not only farmers, but EVERYbody who owns ANY property. So many "Mom & Pop" businesses going down this road, almost overnight. Traditions lost to, commercialism. (This popped up playing after I googled "Daddy Had a Truck", which I heard on a FB reel today for the first time. This made me tear up tonight. I just buried my cat, "Buddy", of 20 yrs about two mos ago. Unfortunately I don't own any land, but whenever/wherever I go, he's coming with me).
This is real country music. Tells a real story. Wow
Sure is, that is why my radio is un the permanent off position collecting dust
Absolutely! They haven't made a song like this in years
@@dschneider48 thats because Hollywood and the big labels have told Nashville you got to be woke. You got to bring POP COUNTRY and sing about shit thats not real life. You got to be more worried about having Post Malones & Jelly Belly's on country radio, trying to be mentors to tomorrows kids. I have so many friends that are pro writers in Nashville and they have given up.
Yes sir same as rancheras 👍 🤙
Aman to that ❤😢
Just lost my best buddy Gunner (yellow lab) last December.
Thank you so much. You are very kind.
I Lost her in may great penises she was a great protector she was 8 year's old
Mr. Cody Johnson you've done it again and again, never change your sound, this is a song that I replay everyday, thank you for this sir.
I can’t stop crying. Fifth generation and no one will take this farm! We lost our corn crop to drought but praying for the cotton. ❤ farm life
So sorry, brother. I pray, too, that your cotton is a bumper. Help is on the way ... Jesus is coming soon to take us out of here. God bless.
Amen, praying with you and yours. 💯
Praying for you. May God bless your future.
Praying ma'am
Praying for your cotton ❤
I was once that little girl…the dirt between my toes was far more precious than the diamonds that the future gave. We stood back and watched that dirt get signed away when cancer took dad in just 26 days. Even as an adult watching it go, I saw and heard daddy saying “come on inside, it’s getting dark, sis. And you look tired”.
That dirt filled several acres of land…we built our home with our own hands. Saying goodbye crushed our hearts…but not as much as losing him ripped our world apart
I still have some of that dirt in a jar, a few rocks and some grass that has withered away. But the price for that jar is far greater than gold. And the memories we shared I will forever hold.
Thanks, CoJo for keeping it real! For a reminder that hurt don’t always heal. To let ya know that money is nothing compared to a house built on dirt and filled with lovin’
Beautifully written! Thank you for sharing and god bless
😭😭😭😭
a whole song within itself ❤

Thank you for sharing such a beautifully written account
The part bout the dog hit hard mine are still alive 3.5 yrs old ..I just hope they got another 10 in them...Plus I'm singing this in our local fair.. Love this song so much . All Cody's stuff hits hard in the feel goods ..😢😊
Aww sorry for your loss his soul is in heaven with god now
I a strong woman ugly cried like a baby to this song. The dog was the kick in the ribs for me as well.I lost my girl just over a year ago. She's buried under the prettiest tree in the most beautiful spot on my property. I visit her often. I will never leave my dog. 😢
Folks this video is a lesson in life. Good money will never outweigh good memories.
Amen! Plus I love the daughter walking up and telling the men to leave. Proof that he raised a great daughter who only cares about her Dad's happiness and could care less about the $$$.
AMEN!!
Good money isn't better than good land. We need farms here in the states still. Not to get political but big agro has to change because it's killing our agriculture
Never! Augusta, GA on the boat fishing will always be home in my heart!
Isn’t this the truth
Everytime someone like this comment and I’ll watch it again.

I can’t help but cry when I hear this amazing song and to finally see a video to it… ❤❤❤
The line "A man can't leave his dog" tears me up so much. Makes me think of the time I'll have to say goodbye to my two dogs 😢😢
The lines about the dog absolutely destroy me
I know I have already had to tell one good bye
This one is getting me so bad right now as I just had to say goodbye to one of my dogs yesterday. The rest of the animals we have lost while we’ve lived on our 65 acres are buried in the back of our property.
It really is tough. I had to say goodbye to 5 dogs in my life, all lived long lives. I wouldn't leave them either 😥
We judt had to put our very much loved Roxy down. I know what you mean, we miss her so much. She had a good long life. It hurts so much. And where his best friend is buried. I lost my best friend, he just turned 40.
The dam simply cannot hold at 0:52 - it goes straight to my heart - and then the tears just come. One after the other. 😢
Same here 😢
Same. Every time
Cody Johnson, in my opinion, is one of the only true country artists left. Everything he puts out is destined for pure country gold! I would love to see a full on gospel album, and if you need a backup vocalist, I'm available! 👍

Another music video that will make you cry is Bench Seat by Chase Rice such a good song and video
This video definitely made me cry, but the Bench Seat video destroyed me
This song healed my heart today.
Well said!!
Epic song/video. Sadly too many people don't know this feeling about a good home... even sadder many people had it and lost it.
So sad. Sorry. Tony here from kenya
Your daddy sounds wonderful! My condolences.
You were so blessed to have a daddy that loved you with all his heart, what a great man he had to be. May the memories carry you on....
Your dad is not he's not gone let's just say this, madam. He's always gonna be in your heart and your family's hearts.
I can't tell if I lose my parents not sure if I can handle it? however my parents tell me not to cry! 😊
I lost my dad Oct 26th 2023 😢. I held his hand as he took his last breath. I understand every word you just wrote ❤
I'm only ten years old this where I was raised and I would not trade a thing for it I go out side and bless the lord that I have this land
Thanks 😊 so much for the love and support you have showed me for years now…Are you one of my great fans out there ?

I've held on to my dad's land since the 1991 on thing it has been a hard some years but so worth it. The property was so cheap then but now it's worth a fortune so thankful I held on🙌🙏🙌

I’m not a farmer or rancher, nor if I lived in a place for multiple generations of my family, but goddamn this song made me cry
Perhaps because, like me, it makes us wish we had.
Please don’t use the good Lord’s name in vain. I understand what you’re talking about. We’re all trying to get to the other side.
Don't let them
Sending prayers that they don't get your land, Debbie. 🙏
I just send out a Prayer Request to all of my friends that "they" don't get your land. I believe in prayer so I hope it helps. Take care.

he didn't write the song, but he damn sure made the lyrics come to life!!
When I hear “keep your money because a man can’t leave his dog” I can’t help but tear up a little.

the saddening part is, corporate greed has driven land prices so high that people who simply want something to leave to their kids cannot achieve these goals without being in absolute financial distress. risking it all, 24/7, 365. this song is a masterpiece that i don't believe George Strait ever surpassed, in my opinion.
Agreed. Tragic

So many things about this song touch my heart with a deep meaning. It's really a wonderful song about life, love, and humanity.
I recently laid my best friend to rest beneath a cross under a red oak tree beside another cross where first best buddy is buried.
So many things in life are more important than money.
I've never cried so much listening to a song before in my life.
I had to learn this song for a gig..Man, I actually teared up watching this music video. Hits a much deeper chord than I realized.

Love this.

Performed beautifully by Cody.
I am so glad I did not sell my father’s land. It will be here for my children and their children.
COJO is saving country music one song at a time.
He didn't remember them coming to him each week, but he told them the same story every time
The girl on the swing in his memory is an almost clone of our daughter right now, and she has a swing like this one. Her laugh when I push her on there is unforgettable. “…running up after one of those long days,
Her big smile making every little worry fade…”. That’s her all right, and her little brother 🥹🥹
