    My main problem with the game is the lack of variety in almost every system in the game.
    • Mission boards are incredibly generic and lack much variety. Give us more freedom to approach them like letting us bring the bounties alive!
    • Points of interest are frankly, bad. So much work was clearly done in the procedurally generated planets but that immersion goes away the moment you see the exact same building with the exact same enemies and the exact same dead body decoration. If they had taken a look at how Bloodborne did chalice dungeons this could have been masterful world design.
    • There’s very little build variety. I can’t see myself ever using melee or stealth tbh.
    • The temples could have been Starfield’s chance to give us fights against huge insect bosses or something that works similar to the dragons from Skyrim but they went with one of the most bland options ever.

    • @Far1988
      @Far1988 8 месяцев назад +4

      Stealth is fine, but I don't really see any reason to pick it as a starter. To properly do stealth you need to have a suppressed gun. If you don't have one, you can't really level up stealth because stealth attacks are pretty much impossible. So if you want to use stealth, play the game until you find a suppressed gun and then have fun.

    I wish they went harder in either direction. Either more content closer together so that you dont waste 30+mins just walking around to the locations. OR they could make them very remote and a LOT more interesting, like you REALLY have to explore in order to find it, off into the wastes on your own. They’d definitely need a vehicle for that to work though.

      The main problem here is that if you increase your player walkspeed on PC (using console commands) you quickly realize the game can't handle you moving too fast like in a vehicle because it stutters when it has to load in that many new assets ahead of you
      It might be able to work if the vehicles aren't too fast, but for this reason you definitely wouldn't be able to have atmospheric flight like a lot of people wanted. It's a tech limitation. I could see a rover but it would have to be not that much faster than a person

      Bethesda likes their engine because it makes TONS of objects that you can pick up. Games like NMS use fake objects (ie, everything is bolted to the ground, and you cant touch it or pick it up or steal it or anything)
      and they like it because they get to have mods pretty easily.

Many games, such as Cyberpunk 2077 for example, use animation routines, to simulate actual AI. That's how they're able to eliminate loading screens.

If he had liked the destination than Todd’s idea of exploration is would be fine for him. As that’s the only thing about it. Random locations you have jump pack to and worlds you have to fast travel to.
      Starfield is a bad game and people saying it isn’t should play other Bethesda games preferably Morrowind to see what exploration is about. What actually good world building is and they would also find out Bethesda was very well capable of great story writing.

    • @UToobUsername01
      @UToobUsername01 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@ToksyuryelI disagree because this is a RPG while NMS is just a minecraft survival game set in space. Sure the two games share similar features like base-building, surveying, and running around barren worlds that are procedurally generated, but Starfield is a RPG.
      Take any boring environment like the desert in the Mad Max game or the open sea in Zelda Wind Waker, you will complain that it feels empty. But that is the problem of the environment itself being deserted with not much life in it rather than Bethesda lacking the ablity to put stuff there.
      This is not an excuse but it's the problem of any space game. Elite Dangerous also suffers from it. Space is vast and with lots of nothing in it. We have to remember that its not a money issue. It's a design choice to make it feel isolated and dangerous. Just as post apoc games have lots of empty towns and deserted ruins and destroyed cities, so will Starfield have a lot of untouched locations with nothing in them.
      I still remember how people complained that some levels in Halo 1 (the one called the library where you must fight hordes of Flood aliens to get to the place you need) were too repetitive. But that was only because its realistic for area to be that way because everything in Halo was so big. It took a long time to walk from one section of a level to another. If you explore a skyscraper (as seen in Fear games) you will see a lot of repeating patterns because the room in each floor is the same look. But that would be realistic in real life for every room in each floor to look alike. Not a limitation of tech or creativity but a choice becasue its tryingto be realistic setting.

      It´s an old comment, I get it, but I never understood that argument.
      "Why 1000? it would have been better if Bethesda gave us 5, 7, 10... planets with big handcrafted regions."
      Yeah, so why is that argument a failure?
      I mean, we all know, how these 1000 planets were made, right?
      They were made automatically. No developer was sitting there making 1000 planets.
      So there wouldn´t been any free ressources for making these fewer planets instead of the 1000. It´s no this or that scenario.
      For making 2, 3, 5, 7 or 10 planets, Bethesda had to develop much much more with many more people and more time.
      And do you know what? If they had done these fewer handcrafted planets, they could still have 1000, 10000 or 100000 automatically created planets on top. Because they don´t need anyone to do them.
      Would Starfield be a better game with some really large handcrafted landspaces and quest-lines on some planets?
      I think so. But that has nothing to do with the current amount of planets.

  • @samuki1992

      What they did was follow the main mission and then they encountered something which caused them to become distracted. Then the distraction led to another distraction, and so on.
      In Skyrim you got 'distracted' by stumbling upon a mine or cave or something while travelling. In Starfield you get distracted by dislogue, a quest, a transmission.

    I find this game incredibly addictive, and I love the universe so far. But exploration feels like it dies a death by a thousand cuts every time I try to fully immerse myself. It's mostly the loading screens that *are not disguised* at all. It's like they didn't even try to.
    There's a hard cut to black when you press LAND while looking at a planet's spaceport or landing pad through first person. There's redundant docking and undocking animations for interacting with stationary space stations (I can understand doing this for docking with moving ships and such).
    It's a lot of things like that, combined with the checklisty scanning and surveying of planets, that remind me that I'm just playing a game. It's difficult to get lost when it feels so formulaic sometimes. But then again, we're explorers and (optionally) scientists in the lore. So maybe that was on purpose. Still really liking the game despite all of this. It definitely clicked for me after the first few story missions were out of the way and I saved up to buy my own ship.

    I do wish random encounters would varied more in all aspect. last night when I was doing mission boards, i ran into the same pirate base layout and confused myself because i thought i re-enter the same building from the last mission. But no, it was a new mission at a new planet, just the same exact layout and chest/loot location.
    It would of been nice to see more varied structures as well as loot placements because if you do those mission boards a lot, you'll know exactly where loots are, enemy location and the paths they take, as well as robot terminals. so after a few mission boards, it really feels like you are playing the exact same repeatedly. Even the caves seemed to be copied and pasted a lot, which is ODD because you'd think those caves with just resources could be randomly generated right?
    There are also some pirate base that has adrupt dead ends - which makes me wonder if BGS had planned for bigger "dungeons" because these are quite small. So far, besides main story missions, every side quests that involves caves are so short. remember skyrim when it used to take 10-15 min to clear a cave with puzzels?

    • @BleachO
      @BleachO 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@BrunoHenrique-ix2iq I think you're reading other people's criticisms into my comment a bit too much. I'm not complaining about the barrenness or emptiness. My big issue is the mode of exploration. My biggest gripe is that if I actually want to focus on exploring then I have to go through a series of cutscenes then just land on a planet. There is very little "flying around in space" and coming upon a planet or asteroid and deciding to check it out. Almost 99% percent of the "exploration" can be done through a menu with fast travel. I wanted to actually fly around the solar system not just cutscene jump to a planet's orbit and just fly around the orbit. Also, ground exploring is a little tedious when all you can do is walk/jump. There really should have been some sort of vehicle even if it was just a small bike or two person craft. Something like the speeder bikes or the Phantom from Star Wars. I get having a huge rover type vehicle like in Mass Effect isn't very good but something small would be good. It's just so tedious to walk everywhere and in my honest opinion if this is supposed to be a realistic earth future then we would definitely have some sort of craft because most people won't even walk to the grocery store if they have a car.
      Again, to reiterate. My big issue is the space part of exploration. It mainly comprises of just cut scenes. i wanted to actually fly my ship around space. I get that in real life it would take years to fly from Earth to Neptune, but it's a game. In real life it would take me more than 10 minutes to walk from the Lodge to the Spaceport on New Atlantis but in game it only takes about 8-10 minutes so I wish they would have applied the same thinking to the space travel. I get that space is empty, but how cool would it be if you're on your way to Earth from Mars and while cruising in the emptiness of space you see a ship just appear or see a large spacestation that you hadn't heard about and decide to dock and then get lost in a cool side quest. I haven't had anything like this happen to me in the game because it just cutscenes me to the next planet and i land, occasionally there is a hostile or fired]ndly ship that hails you and give you a side quest but that's it.

    • @BrunoHenrique-ix2iq
      @BrunoHenrique-ix2iq 8 месяцев назад

      @@BleachO i understand your criticism and i agree. That part of the game is kind bad to me as well. I really think that exploration would be better, especially in terms of immersion and freedom, if there were faster space flights, in other words, manual interplanetary travel, and also atmospheric flight and manual landing. I also agree that so many loading screens reduce immersion. I think that if they were better done, so that they gave the impression of continuity, they would be less worse. For example, when you jump from one star system to another in the game Elite Dangerous, the loading screen is disguised with an interactive animation of the ship traveling through hyperspace. It is not very interactive, but there is still some interaction. But its best and most effective effect is the feeling of continuity it brings, even though it's a loading screen. I'm not as naive as many out there to think that these space simulator games don't have a loading screen, they're just well disguised. Even the planets are constantly being loaded as you get close to them and they probably aren't fully loaded, just the parts most visible to the player. But anyway, the point is, I really think your criticism has some point, but it's worth saying that space exploration itself has almost nothing to do with traveling with the ship, although it can also be done with it. Think about what space exploration means in reality, what it generally entails: exploring planetary surfaces in search of discovering chemical, physical and sometimes biological aspects (search for life). It doesn't go beyond that. In other words, space exploration does not happen halfway, when the ship is heading towards the desired planet, for example, because there is nothing there, it is empty. So in that sense, Starfield still has space exploration, because you have things to discover on the planets, outside of it too, but, mainly, on its surface. I discovered several interesting aspects on the surfaces of planets, especially those that have life. But there are some lifeless planets that have some pretty cool geological aspects too.

The people that say they want an in depth experience lack the skills necessary to play the games that literally already exist with those exact type of game loops. Starfield is an RPG it's not a space sim, those games exist already go play them!

    Personally, what I want to see is something akin to FO4's War of the Commonwealth mod. Have a random chance for parties of Spacers, Ecliptic or Crimson Fleet land on the world you're on, have faction warfare between them, make the wary/hostile local wildlife also get involved. Make the ships of the raiding parties stealable. Maybe you could occasionally run into Vanguard or Rangers who crash landed and need your help to fight them off. Just, take advantage of the procedural generation to actually populate the otherwise empty planets with challenging, interesting conflict, with good rewards at the end to incentivize engagement.

    I got the game with zero expectations other than a fallout-lile gameplay style, and honestly i love it! I know the game wasn't gonna come with seamless planet landing or atmospheric flight, but i can absolutely see the appeal of it after playing
    In fact, i had an almost entirely negative opinion about the game, especially after how FO76 went, but im glad its actually something i enjoy, im always happy to see a big sci-fi game actually turn out good at launch
    And no, its nowhere near the kind of game Star Citizen or No Mans Sky is. They're very much different in how they play, and i domt see how Starfield would kill any of those games
    But i can see Starfield adding a bigger fanbase to the sci-fi genre

Ive really enjoyed landing on planets and just wandering around seeing what is what, taking down bad dudes, scanning the stuff that needs scanning. The one thing i found annoying about ED was the fact you spend an age getting to a planet, land, and get bored within a minute because there is nothing out there.

    Most people talking about the map mean for the city. A map out in the open wouldn't do anything bc its wide open. Also, you know you can hit scan on an unknown location and it tells you exactly what it is. Maybe you did and were just doing it so you didn't know what you was going to. Also, when mining resources, hold down aim and when the white lines get to the red part in the middle, you can mine pretty much in an instant. The way you did it was still faster though. As far as exploring planets you haven't been to, I heard that if there are 3 dots when looking at the planet in the star map, that means there's a quest on that planet. Not sure if that's true or how that works though. Idk if you already have to have the quest or if a quest will lead you there or if there's someone there that will give you a quest.

    I really dont mind that the exploration is set up this way. The game has so many other things you can do that i truly feel like im wasting time when i play like this. I could be experiencing one of the amazing faction quest lines, or customizing my ship, or improving my outpost, but instead im running around on a planet with no goal other than to see what generates.
    That isnt fun.
    Instead, try going to bounty boards and picking up a ton of bounties. When you feel like exploring, why not go tackle a bounty and stop by a random POI on the trip? Playing this way feels way more rewarding and purposeful. It also conveys the point that you reallly arent meant to spend 3 hours delving into the unknown, but instead youre meant to find it off the path while out adventuring with a goal

    I for one have no problem with planet exploration the way it is. Vehicles will be coming soon via modders. The dogfights in space with too many clicks and unnecessary key commands is what needs some work. Other than that I love everything about Starfield and is why I play the game 12 hours a day, everyday,... and will still be playing the game for years to come.
    Planet exploration is actually quite simple. You land anywhere you choose, scan the are in all directions and head out a bit from your ship, while collecting data and then select another location to land on the planet and repeat the process, until the planet has been 100% surveyed. You do not have to find everything on the planet and fight every base you encounter, unless you want to, like I do. Some of those can be revisited and enemies and new loot will respawn, just like in the radiant quests from Skyrim. Some will be places to visit, through side quests, for those of us that love side quests. There is one base that I have cleared out 3 times already and I love it.
    I found the Pyramids of Giza, etc. There are books that will lead you to certain landmark missions too and collect all the combat manuals lying around everywhere, as they will make your character into an even more powerful force. As always, it's all about playing a game our way and how we enjoy playing a game, weather it be a casual gamer or hardcore gamer or, weather it be playing for 100 hours and move on or 10,000 hours and make it a lifetime journey and investment (like I have chosen). Game on! 😎

    I think my issue is that if I land on a planet for any reason, I feel compelled to scan everything because I have to leave stuff incomplete. Now that I have a base to chuck stuff into storage as needed, I think I'm going to stop landing on random planets even if they have outposts and such just because I've seen most of every generated quest a few times now (for example, I've seen everything in this video and I'm just level 30).

    • @EnigmaticMan
      @EnigmaticMan 8 месяцев назад

      The thing is that it's all procedurally generated, so you have a virtually infinite number of planets that will have these kinds of locations spawning in the vicinity of your landing site. It's just not like Skyrim, for example, where things are mostly fixed in place.

    • @Evan056
      @Evan056 8 месяцев назад +1

      @EnigmaticMan Oh, I know. Just the loop hasn't been rewarding for me, and I'm already tired of repeat locations in my 60 hours. If I engage at all with the random planet landing or even the randomly labeled "events" on worlds I have a compulsive tendency to scan everything. It's burning me out! lol

    • @EnigmaticMan
      @EnigmaticMan 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@Evan056 I get where you're coming from, because most of my 48 hours seems to have been doing almost exactly what you've been doing. But if you can reorient your experience more to simply focusing on quests and only travel to these places as a means to an end (fulfilling quest objectives, collecting resources), things might turn around. I'm considering doing that if I don't already feel too burned out

    The planet exploration gets repetitive after a 1 or 2 planets. This is objectively the least diverse Betheada game for exploration. Just endless running with the exact same caves, fauna and "abandoned science outpost" crap over and over and over. Im often tricked into thinking I found something new, only to realize I just found the same outpost or mining operation from a different angle.
    You also quickly realize they didnt pepper hidden or unique locations like Skyrim or Fallout. When you stick to the quests, youll end up running into all the exact same preset locations which are used for specific questlines.
    I found random miners or scientists, who ask me to go rescue a friend in a cave, ir clear out nearby pirates and its the exact same thing ad nauseum. And I ran into these repeat missions within the first hours of play. Outside the main questlines, the world is empty, and you quickly realize its a barebones bethesda experience, thats had a lot of their NPC scripting systems scaled back.
    If you remember, Skyrim filled its entire world almost entirely with unique NPCs, outside of enemy bandist spawns and khajit traveling merchants. Every town and city was filled with unique NPCs with daily schedules and jobs and houses.
    Starfield is a massive step back in regards to immersion and NPC scripting and AI. The cities are filled with mindless lemmings, NPCs that dont even react to you pointing a weapon at them. When your NPC AI is worse then Cyberpunk at release, you now its bad.
    Space exploration is noneexistent and ship building is useless once you realize there are no space missions, and I mean REAL space missions, where you fly out to different nav points and complete objectives. Think Freelancer missions. Considering how much work they put into ship building, they completedly wasted it.
